• How to recover bitlocker encrypted partition that is now 'unallocated'/'free space'?

  My hard drive had 5 partitions(including 1(some 4-5GB) bit locker encrypted one). When I used disk mgmt I could view 2 partitions(24.4GB and 8.94GB) in green colour labeled Empty space. So, I wanted to merge them and I used minitool partition wizard for the purpose. I don't know, what that software did, but all I was left with 2 partitions and lots of green free space. I recovered 2 partitions using EaseUS partition master, but the bitlocker encrypted partition cannot be searched by it(and also minitool partition recovery). Now, the disk mgmt shows 2 free space partitions of 28.36GB and 8.94GB respectively. P.S. - It contains very important data.

• Ericsson W35 ssh administration

  I picked up a Ericsson W35 at a pawn shop the other day and when I login to the administration section at 192.168.1.1 I get an error message about connecting to the database. It apparently supports ssh administration and I get a password prompt when attempting to ssh [email protected] but no passwords I try work and theres no documentation for it. Has anyone had success with ssh on the Ericsson W35 and is this issue fixable? Thanks.

• Nexenta/OpenSolaris filer kernel panic/crash

  I've an x4540 Sun storage server running NexentaStor Enterprise. It's serving NFS over 10GbE CX4 for several VMWare vSphere hosts. There are 30 virtual machines running. For the past few weeks, I've had random crashes spaced 10-14 days apart. This system used to open OpenSolaris and was stable in that arrangement. The crashes trigger the automated system recovery feature on the hardware, forcing a hard system reset. • Minidump folder cannot be found

  Although I have enabled the creation of minidump files in my system, it appears that either Windows doesn't create them where the Startup and recovery dialog points to (%SystemRoot%\Minidump) or at least I can't find them. Even the Minidump folder under Windows directory is missing and I had numerous BSODs till now. I've searched all my HDs for mini*.dmp files only to find some old ones in a backup folder from my Vista x86 installation, before I install Windows 7 x64. Any thoughts of why this is happening and how to fix it? Pre-thanx!

• Change the Safari home page for the OSX Guest account

  I'd like to setup the guest account with easy access to a particular web site, but cannot figure out how to change the default. In 10.5.8 the parental controls can be used to control the list of bookmarks, but I haven't seen any reference to the home page. And when logged in as Guest, the home page settings are read-only, even if you enter an administrator password. How can the Safari home page be changed (and be made persistent) for the OSX Guest account?

• Garbled text in Screen [closed]

  The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. • Migrated SQL Server database suddenly in "Restoring" state

  Edit: This is still a live prob, less than an hour after trying RESTORE ... WITH RECOVERY. I backed up a SQL Server 2005 database and restored it to a new SQL 2008 instance. The restore was quick and successful. Everything was fine for an hour or so. Suddenly, the database is now stuck in "(Restoring...)" state in Management Studio and has a green arrow icon, and my application login is failing! Any advice? :-) Edit: This is a live application. If I delete and try again, the hour or so's data will be lost.

The question is, since I don't need the data on a day-to-day basis, what do I do with it to protect and back it up? • Back up Windows 2008 SBS to iSCSI disk

  I've almost no experience with SBS 2008, so please excuse my noob question! SBS 2008 only has the most basic backup utility built in as far as I can tell (similar to Vista), and it will only back up to physical volumes. I've read that you can set up a batch task to backup to a network volume, but right now I just need to get something deployed ASAP. We have an iSCSI target with plenty of free space. Is it worth backing up to an iSCSI target? Or am I wasting my time? If I need to do a recovery from the iSCSI disk, how would I go about it?

• Windows XP Installation issue - cannot find hard disk

  A friend of mine gave me a laptop with Windows 8 installed and nothing else. I don't like it so I am trying to remove it by installing Windows XP. I have a windows XP installation CD that I have used before and worked fine, but didn't work when I tried to install it on the Windows 8 machine. It keeps telling me I don't have a drive to install to. Then I log into Windows 8 again and install check partitions. I found 2 and tried to make a new one but it will only let me make one of 69mb. Next, I tied to find a way to go back to XP with BCD install and try to set the boot loader for XP but it wasnt there. Somehow I deleted the bootloader for Windows 8 and now it asks me for a recovery tool for media. I am not familiar with the laptop specs, but it is a Toshiba with about 250GB storage, and above 1GHz processor.

• Create a Windows Image for Deployment

  In my company we have 8 laptops that we use to deploy on the field. These machines get assigned to a user for a certain time and run Windows Vista. All the machines are the same model. After the machine is returned, it is company policy to completely format the machine and go back to a predetermined configuration. Right now, what we do is we use the recovery utility in the laptop (we are a small shop so we use the OEM Windows license that the laptops come with) and manually uninstall and change the configuration in order to bring it to our baseline config. I know that there are ways to create an image that gets copied to the hard drive with a specific configuration and with specific software installed (thats what OEMs do right?). I'm looking for a tool or a tutorial or something that explains as simply as possible how to create such an image. Thanks a lot

  Here's what cap deploy does: sudo -p 'sudo password: ' -u root /var/rails_apps/fooapp/current/script/process/reaper reaper simply contains /etc/init.d/nginx restart When I run the same command from the shell, I do not get a 502--everything is fine. • Blinking cursor after repair install on Win XP

  I have an Asus Eee PC netbook which I upgraded the drive of. After some shenanigans, I was able to do a repair install from my Windows XP CD. However, I still have a blinking cursor in the upper-left-hand corner after POST. I tried going into the recovery console and doing chkdsk/fixboot/fixmbr with no effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated! (Sorry if it's inappropriate to post a followup as a new question; I'm not sure how I should do it in a way that will cause it to actually be seen). • About the security of adding a signature to a PDF file

  We can add a "bitmap" or image signature to a PDF file, either by using Adobe Acrobat or by Mac's Preview app, but I wonder, besides always encrypting it with a password before sending it by email to the other party, how valid and secure is it? The reason is, if the signature is a bitmap, then there is nothing that prevents anybody copying and pasting that image to other documents, or even, if a cheque is written to anybody at all (such as to the landlord), then there is nothing that prevents the signature from being scanned and copied and pasted to any other PDF documents as well.

• Can radius interact with pptp beyond authentication?

  I've managed to setup pptp to use Radius authentication - making it much easier to manage users in an sql database than the default password file. However, ideally I'd like to be able to get the status of these users and disconnect/manage them as Radius allows - is this possible? If so, could you elaborate and point me in the right direction? All help is much appreciated! Edit I am personally using Debian and the standard aptitude packages for pptp and FreeRADIUS.
