  I get data in from POST and validate it via this standard snippet: entry_formset = EntryFormSet(request.POST, request.FILES, prefix='entries') if entry_formset.is_valid(): .... The EntryFormSet modelform overrides a foreign key field widget to present a text field. That way, the user can enter an existing key (suggested via an Ajax live search), or enter a new key, which will be seamlessly added. • WCF SSL secure transfer or large payloads without changing firewall.

  I need to transfer small amounts of data intermittently from clients to our server in a secure fashion and pull down large binary files from the server ocassionally. It's important for all this to be reliable. I'm anticipating 100,000 clients. I control both ends, but I want to deliver a solution that doesn't require changing the firewall for the majority of customers. A lag of one or two minutes before the information migrates to the server or comes down seems to be acceptable at this time. We need to make the connection secure, so was thinking about SSL, but open to suggestions. Basically, what is the best binding to use in this situation so that we have a secure transmission and the system handles the stress and load in a way that works for 95% of clients out of the box (firewalls will not block in majority of firewall configurations).

  After I read a bunch of LINQ related stuff, I suddenly realized that no articles introduce how to write asynchronous LINQ query. Suppose we use LINQ to SQL, below statement is clear. For example so that I could do automatic escaping of output. As I see it right now, I either have to escape the input as it goes into the database or use compiled templates like Smarty does, or switch to assigning every variable to the View object so that it has direct control to force escaping before outputting the data.

• AsyncTask, RejectedExecutionException and Task Limit

  I am fetching lots of thumbnails from a remote server and displaying them in a grid view, using AsyncTask. The problem is, my grid view displays 20 thumbnails at a time, so that creates 20 AsyncTasks and starts 20 executes, one per thumbnail. I get RejectedExecution exception in my code. I recall reading somewhere that there is a limit to number of tasks that AsyncTask can have in its queue at a time, i might be hitting that. Was this bar lifted? Is there a way to increase this limit? Is it safe to just ignore this exception?(by having an empty catch(RejectedException e){} block?) I am running this code on Android 1.6 emulator and the API level in my code(minSDKVersion is 3). [EDIT: Added SDK and API level info]

• WPF command/click argument

  So I have a background in ASP.NET where a button could have a click handler or a command handler and then a command argument. That pattern was great for when you had a bunch of buttons that basically needed to execute the same block of code with only a slightly different argument. Is there a collary in WPF? From what I've seen of the Command in WPF is that it revolves around an action that is independent of the control that invokes it (and still doesn't provide a way to provide an argument). Which is not really what I need.

  Devise, the authentication gem for Ruby based on Warden (another auth gem) does not support Twitter Oauth as an authentication strategy, BUT Warden does. There is a way to use the Warden Twitter Oauth strategy within Devise, but I cannot figure it out. I'm using the following block in the devise config file: config.warden do |manager| manager.oauth(:twitter) do |twitter| twitter.consumer_secret = <SECRET> twitter.consumer_key = <KEY> twitter.options :site => 'http://twitter.com' end manager.default_strategies.unshift :twitter_oauth end But I keep on getting all sorts of error messages. I'm assuming there is more to do here (configuring a new link/route to talk to Warden, maybe adding attributes to the Devise User model, etc.), but I can't figure out what they are. Please help.

  Hello all, I am having problems with the PHP function unlink. I keep getting this error: Warning: unlink(C:\wamp\www\webs\db\db_1276259188.mdb) [function.unlink]: Permission denied in C:\wamp\www\webs\pure-php-export.php on line 242 I am on a windows machine where Apache runs as the user SYSTEM. I have set the permissions of the db folder as "Full Control" for Apache's user. • Visual Studio 2008 macro only works from the Macro IDE, not the Macro Explorer

  Edit: Creating a new module in the same VSMacros project fixed the problem. The following macro only works if I open the Macro IDE from Visual Studio and run the macro from there. It'd be much more useful if I could just right click the macro from the Macro Explorer from my Visual Studio instance. I must be doing something obviously wrong, but I've never worked with VS macros before. The MessageBox does not appear in either case. • HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() - what specific status codes cause an exception to be thrown?

  I've hunted around for some definitive documentation on this but haven't had much luck finding any. Basically - the question is - for which HTTP Status codes coming back from the server will HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() generate a WebException after doing something like say, a POST? Specifically - will it generate a WebException for anything other than status 200 OK? Or will it only generate a WebException for say, 400, 404, and 500 (for the sake of argument). I want to know since, the server I'm communicating with defines anything other than HTTP 200 OK coming back as an error condition - and the key is, can I rely on a WebException being generated for anything other than 200? (I've currently written my code so that it'll actually check the return status code everytime to ensure it's 200 OK and if it's not, take appropriate action - but it's alot of duplication between that, and the catch block for a WebException, and I'm hoping to clean it up...) Any relevant links to documentation would be most appreciated. Thanks!

• Removing the obstacle that yields the best path from a map after A* traversal

However, after the traversal, I would like to find out what wall would give me the best alternative path. Apart from removing every block and re-running A* on the maze, what's a clever solution? I was thinking give every wall node (ignored by A*), a tentative F-value, and change the node structure to also have a n-sized list of node *tentative_parent where n is the number of walls in the maze. Could this be viable?

• How to stop SWF inside of a jQuery UI tab from reloading

  I have a SWF movie inside of a jQuery UI tab, and the problem I'm having is that the SWF gets reloaded everytime I click away from the tab, onto another tab, and then click back. I can inspect the DOM and see that the div containing the SWF is still in the DOM when I click away, so I don't know why this it seems to reload it when I click back to the tab. I added the following CSS rules to try to prevent the display being set to: none, but the Flash movie is still reloading: .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-hide { display: block !important; position: absolute; left: -10000px; }

(based on this answer) I already have the mechanism how to catch an invalid route and the custom 404 page is served by my ErrorController/Handle404 action. My current implementation of Handle404: public ActionResult Handle404() { Response.StatusCode = 404; return View("NotFound"); } Currently, IIS serves the page as 404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. (the standard IIS page, not my user friendly content) How can I include the 404 status code in the result served by the Handle404 action while still serving the content?

• Passing jQuery object and WebMethod return value to an OnSuccess function

  I am calling a WebMethod from this code: if($(this).attr("checked")) { .. MyWebMethod(variable1, variable2, onSuccessFunction); } The MyWebMethod returns an integer, and I want to set $(this).attr("id") of the jQuery object above to the returned integer. Basically, I'm trying to do the equivalent of an MVC Ajax.ActionLink...AjaxOptions {UpdateTargetID =...} However, I can't figure out how to get both a reference to $(this) as well as the returned value. For example, if I do: MyWebMethod(variable1, variable2, onSuccessFunction($(this))); I can succesfully manipulate the jQuery object, but obviously it doesn't have the return value from the MyWebMethod. Alternatively, the first code block with a method signature of onSuccessFunction(returnValue) has the correct return value from MyWebMethod, but no concept of the jQuery object I'm looking for. Am I going about this all wrong?

  In my code I'm trying to show a UIWebView as a page is loading, and then, when it's done, capture an image from the web view to cache and display later (so I don't have to reload and render the web page). I have something along the lines of: CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(…); [[webView layer] renderInContext:context]; CGImageRef imageRef = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(context); UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:imageRef]; The problem I'm running into is that, due to UIWebView's tiling, sometimes only half of the page is rendered to the context by the time I capture the image. Is there a way to detect or block on UIWebView's background rendering thread so that I can get the image only after all of the rendering has finished?

  I'm currently designing a smart client app (WPF) which needs to operate in an "occasionally disconnected" mode. For the offline scenario, I'm looking at using: Disconnected Service Agent Application Block (from the Smart Client Software Factory) Microsoft Sync Framework I should mention that I want my smart client app to be XCOPY-deployable, auto-updating, and installable without administrative privledges -- basically a ClickOnce-deployed app. From what I can tell this means the Microsoft Sync Framework is out because it has some COM in it's implementation that needs to get registered on the client which requires admin rights. Is it possible to XCOPY deploy and run MSF from a ClickOnce app? Any other ideas for data synchronization?

My concern is that if I log the exception in the library, there will be many duplicates (because the library layer will log it, the application layer will log it, and anything in between), but if I don't log it in the library, it'll be hard to track down bugs. • Can't get Logback Eclipse plugin to display output

  I followed these instructions here: http://logback.qos.ch/consolePlugin.html I have the correct and found logback.xml, it is set up correctly, and the port is listening. Nothing shows up with logger.error("Test"); It logs to sysout fine when I remove logback.xml, which shows to me that the logback is working fine. I installed the plugin on linux by moving it to /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins ...The window shows up, but no logging events are showing up. I also added a catch all ACCEPT filter like on that link. Perhaps this is a linux permission issue?
