• free geolocation geoip, are they viable?

  I'm trying to get a visitor's location based on their IP, pretty common stuff. My research so far shows that there's a database from MaxMind that costs $370 + $90/month... not the type of cost I can afford. Then there's a free version called GeoLite City. Anyone used these before? Drop a quick line here please. Why is one free and the answer so expensive. Is the free one usable, is it not as accurate, what's the catch? P.S. Any other suggestions are welcome.

  Is it possible to index through an association with Sunspot? For example, if a Customer has_many Contacts, I want a 'searchable' block on my Customer model that indexes the Contact#first_name and Contact#last_name columns for use in searches on Customer. acts_as_solr has an :include option for this. I've simply been combining the associated column names into a text field on Customer like shown below, but this doesn't seem very flexible. searchable do text :organization_name, :default_boost => 2 text :billing_address1, :default_boost => 2 text :contact_names do contacts.map { |contact| contact.to_s } end Any suggestions?

• I am having trouble using FileReader to write a txt file to an array (Java), what am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure why it's reading the end of my file first. The contents of the txt are below.. USD 1.34 EUR 1.00 JPY 126.28 GBP 0.88 INR 60.20 It reads the 60.20, which is all it is recording in the array. Any help would be appreciated.

• Marshaling an array of IntPtrs in C#

  From safe, managed code in C#, I would like to call a function in a C API that receives an array of pointers (void**). I have the corresponding managed array of IntPtr objects, but the Marshal methods advertised in the documentation at MSDN do not seem sufficient to provide and IntPtr to an unmanaged block of memory with the correct content. I had hoped to obtain an IntPtr with 'Marshal.AllocHGlobal' and then assign the correct content using 'Marshal.Copy', but it seems the function has not been overloaded for an array of IntPtr. Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

  Im trying to get all of my posts in a delicious account to an MySql DB. Since delicious exports xml I think it wont be too complicated, but being new to it I cant really make sense of the api... I believe I have to query it as so: https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all? But one catch is that im using an yahoo id for that account which I need to do it as follows: "To access data from accounts created using a Yahoo! ID, use the same API's as below, but change the path to /v2, and make HTTP requests using OAuth as provided by the Yahoo! Developer Network." I cant understand how to do it, can someone please help. Thanks. EDIT Although I still have the same doubt I figured out I can export the whole thing from the settings in my account, now I just need to get the html export in a xml file :) Also the yahoo method for accessing data, really is no good.

• Allowing connections initiated from outside

  I've got an old Juniper SSG5 running ScreenOS 5.4.0r6.0. Once a day, more or less, it'll start randomly dropping packets at a rate of ~5-10%. We currently solve this issue by simply rebooting the unit, after which it resumes working in perfect condition. As this error has started appearing randomly, without any configuration or hardware changes, I'm assuming I've got an aging unit about to fail. As such, I've got a replacement SSG5 running ScreenOS 6.0. I've dumped the config on the 5.4 and imported it into a clean 6.0, and it seems to gladly accept it, and all my configuration seems to be A-OK. However, upon connecting the new unit, all outside-initiated connections seem to be blocked. If I browse our external IP from the inside, everything works perfectly, and it's not just port 80, SSH, Crashplan - all of our policies route correctly. All normal networking, initiated from the inside, work perfectly as well. If on the other hand I browse our external IP from the outside, everything is blocked. Barring differences between ScreenOS 5.4 and 6.0, the config is identical. • Flex Datagrid editing cells in same row not firing collection change event

  Hi, I am using the flex datagrid to allow the user to edit some data. My update process relies on a CollectionEvent of type update. Basically I catch this event package the values and update the database. However, if the user edits a cell then moves to edit a cell in the same row the value is updated but a collection event is not fired. Only when clicking out of the row the event is fired. Has anyone had experience with this. I have heard the datagrid is a little quirky is this one of those quirks or am I doing this all wrong? Any help appreciated.

• How to obtain the native stacktrace from native exceptions caught in managed code

  I have some managed code that calls to a method inside some native DLL(i have the appropriate symbol files). Sometimes, that native method throws an exception which I catch in my managed code. However, when i print the stacktrace from my caught exception, I see only managed code (the last frame is the call to the native code .. but it don't see the stacktrack within the native code). How can I obtain the native callstack as well? *When i'm debugging the code, i am able to step into the native code, and see the actuall call stack.

  There seems to be a difference between the iPhone simulator and actual device when checking if Twitter is available. I check if a Twitter account is setup by using this code: [SLComposeViewController isAvailableForServiceType:SLServiceTypeTwitter]; In the simulator there is a nice UIAlertView informing the user that there are no Twitter accounts setup and two buttons one for Settings and one for Cancel. However when I run my app on my device it will not show the above UIAlertView. Why is that? And how can I catch what button is tapped in the above UIAlertView (since I did not instantiate it?)   I want to be able to send some extra headers with my UIWebView loadRequest method. I have tried: NSMutableURLRequest *req = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.reliply.org/tools/requestheaders.php"]]; [req addValue:@"hello" forHTTPHeaderField:@"aHeader"]; [self.theWebView loadRequest:req]; I have also tried subclassing the UIWebView and intercepting the - (BOOL)webView:(UIWebView *)webView shouldStartLoadWithRequest:(NSURLRequest *)request navigationType:(UIWebViewNavigationType)navigationType method. In that method I had a block of code which looked like this: NSMutableURLRequest *newRequest = [request mutableCopy]; for(NSString *key in [customHeaders allKeys]) { [newRequest setValue:[customHeaders valueForKey:key] forHTTPHeaderField:key]; } [self loadRequest:newRequest]; But for some unknown reason it was causing the web view to not load anything (blank frame) and the error message NSURLErrorCancelled (-999) comes up (all known fixes don't fix it for me). So I am at a loss as to what to do. How can I send a custom header along with a UIWebView request? Many thanks!

  Hello, I thought that this was easier… I have a asp:hyperlink control, with target=”_blank”, pointing to the file I want the user to download. My plan is to track the number of times, the users click on this link. I thought in placing it in ajax update panel, to catch the postback and avoid full page refresh. However, hyperlink doesn’t have a onClick method. On the other hand I could use a linkbutton, which has a onClick built in. But It’s harder to make the file open in a new window… and I would also have to do something like: Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=myImage.jpg"); But I heard that the above approach has some problems with PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX… What is you'r opinion on this? How and why, would you do it?

  Given a directed graph, the goal is to combine the node with the nodes it is pointing to and come up with minimum number of these [lets give the name] super nodes. The catch is once you combine the nodes you can't use those nodes again. [first node as well as all the combined nodes - that is all the members of one super node] The greedy approach would be to pick the node with maximum out degree and combine that node with nodes it is pointing to and remove all of them. Do this every time with the nodes which are not removed yet from graph. The greedy is O(V), but this won't necessarily output minimum number super nodes. So what is the best algorithm to do this?

I need some lib with simple function like "Render String Var conteining HTML" So no external files (like in flash lib called HTMLwraper you just have to play your SWF on top of HTML). dinamic! I give it string it renders It into some conteiner (not as a bitmab but as if it was real HTML dynamically rendered in flash). (And I need real HTML + CSS support not what normal rich text block gives us) I am going to use it in with Flex (Flash Builder) so I like MXML component model but even pure flash AS3 will workout. It should be Free and Opensource (any license like GPL, LGPL etc will be ok). So Is out there such flash\flex library for HTML + CSS dynamic rendering (rfom given String or XML)?

• Visual studio 2010 doesn't make the changes when i do a build/compile a DLL file

  Ok so i change some code, re-build it and then, say for arguments sake i had a print statement outputting 'test2', well if i change it to 'test3' its still re-producing the old code 'test2'. Ive deleted the debug folder and rebuilt but no good. Then randomly about 10 builds later it will catch up. Ive also closed VS2010 and then re-opened the project but that doesnt help.   I have developed a browser in my application using the standard Web Browser control. It is throwing URIFormatException and the application crashes when navigating to some sites like "WWW.oosai.com" and also on clicking back or forward buttons when there is no internet connection.   I'm trying to set an input box with a specific internal height, and I'm running into issues: font-size: 12px; line-height: 12px; height: 12px; display: block; padding: 5px; Is a sample of what I put in inline styles or stylesheets. I would expect the input box value to be visible at full height, but the inner height of the input box ends up being really small, and it always seems to follow the form: actual inner height = css height - 2*border width - 2*padding Funny, because I swear I've done this before without issue. What am I missing?

• SVN post commit stucks while starting process

  Hi, I've built a script in VS that receives the 2 arguments sent by post-commit hook. The script runs SVN LOG to retrieve data about the revision (author, date, files). When I run the solution from VS with constant vars for the arguments, it runs perfectly. When I execute the exe file, also runs perfectly. When I implement the hook script, it fails where it should read from the process. process.Start(); process.WaitForExit(); str = process.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd(); process.WaitForExit(); if (!process.HasExited) { try { process.Kill(); } catch (Exception e3) { // process is terminated } // Write Errors } Thanks.
