• migration of physical server to a virtual solution, what i have to do?

  Hello I'm new in this forum, so i would like that you forgive me for my blissfully and my low English level. I'm a trainee in company one month ago, and my mission is to migrate 3 physicals servers to a virtualization technology. The company edit softwares for E-learning so there are lots of data like videos, flash and compressed (zip). This is some inventory of the servers: OS: Debian, 2 redhat, apache, php/mysql, sendMail/Dovecot, webmin with virtualmin template to create dynamically the web sites because there is no sysadmin ... The future provider will be responsible of to secure, update and create the virtual machines (outsourcing) and with a RedHat OS's. So i want that you help me to choose a virtualisation technologie (for the i prefer KVM of Redhat RHEV, VMWare is expensive), how evaluate the hardware needs (this for evolution of 4 or 5 years) and to elaborate a good planing to don't forget any think. • Unable to read USB External HD after aborted back up

  I have two PC laptops. On one of the two PC's (Win 7) I Aborted a back up and ejected the drive. Now that same pc wants to format the drive. I plugged the drive into the other pc (Win XP) and that one reads the drive and all data stored. Why does one want to format the drive and the other does not? .... My apologies for not being clearer with my original question and thanks for the responses, so; The drive is not a flash stick, its an external WD Hard drive plugged in via the USB. The two tips provided did not resolve the issue. Strangely, the pc with win XP can read the drive but the pc that the HD was plugged into when the backup was aborted still wants to format the drive. • New Servers Active Directory and Exchange

  I have 3 Dell PowerEdge server, each with 2 quad-core processors. I am going to bring this office out of the stone-age network (P2P, share files on a flash drive, emails through Google, etc) and set up Active Directory and Exchange 2013. Our needs are not that great at the moment - our staff consists of approximately 40 people, and our network may eventually be managed by an external company. We need only one domain for our emails (though we may serve emails for a few other partners domains as well). I was thinking of setting something up like this: Server 1: Primary DC. Active Directory and Exchange on separate virtual machines. Server 2: Redundant of server 1. Server 3: Shared resources, storage, backups, etc. How would you utilize 3 servers for an Active Directory / Exchange setup for a small/medium office? We do have plans to grow, so my solution must be scalable, though I'm not sure that I want to split permissions, though I'd consider it if that was something that could be changed on down the road.

  I am currently developing a script in PHP to fetch webpages. The fact is that by doing so, I occasionally do too much requests to a particular website. In order to control any overflow, I would like to keep trace of how many requests have been done in the last hour or so for each domain. It doesn't need to be perfect, just a good estimate. I doesn't have access to a database, except sqlite2. I would really like something really simple because there will typically be a lot of updates, which is kind of heavy for a sqlite database. If no one has a magical solution, I'll go for sqlite, but I was curious what you can come up with Thank you very much

• Can you downmix Windows 7 sound to mono?

  I need my Windows 7 64 bit machine to output mono downmixed sound. Downmixed, not just single channel (I'm deaf in one ear). Is there any possibility to force such behavior. I'm looking for a software solution to mix two channels into one. I know that some media players have this functionality, but I'd like the whole system (ie games, flash applications, etc) to produce downmixed audio. (If none exist then just one for Spotify and Windows Media Player would be handy). Cheers.

• How to find which method makes my iPhone app slow ?

  Currently I am working on a production app. One function acts like the settings.app on iPhone. When the user click a cell of a tableView, as shown below http://www.penguintech.net/images/stackoverflow/1.png It will push another view, which includes a textfield to let user input something. However, on both simulator and device, after the app just loaded, the delay between clicking and showing the second view takes around 2 seconds. Then if user get back to previous view and click again, it will be no delay at all. To detect which method makes the delay, I put a NSLog() in every involved methods, but when I was inspecting the console while running the app, all NSLog() message showed in 0.1 seconds, and then still a delay on the app. Is there any other way to trace the performance footage of a app? The Instruments shows only CPU usage in Mac OS not in iPhone.

  Can someone help me out on this? I accidentally installed grub on usb flash drive during ubuntu server installation. Now I cant boot system without drive attached to server. • iOS Development: Why isn't my try block catching the exception?

  Hi. I have an exception being thrown in my code, but when I wrap it in an try/catch block, it doesn't get caught. The NSLog statement is never called in the catch block. Here's the code... • Is there a way to force JUnit to fail on ANY unchecked exception, even if swallowed

  I am using JUnit to write some higher level tests for legacy code that does not have unit tests. Much of this code "swallows" a variety of unchecked exceptions like NullPointerExceptions (e.g., by just printing stack trace and returning null). Therefore the unit test can pass even through there is a cascade of disasters at various points in the lower level code. Is there any way to have a test fail on the first unchecked exception even if they are swallowed? The only alternative I can think of is to write a custom JUnit wrapper that redirects System.err and then analyzes the output for exceptions.

  I have a flash games website which is hosted at godaddy server. But because of heavy traffic on my site the godaddy server gets down. So I changed the hosting to Midphase server. The strange thing is i have created new name servers and new database in my mid phase server but still the web site is coming from the godaddy server. When i do any modifications from the godaddy ftp i am getting the modifications but when i do any modifications in the mid phase server. No changes are happening. One strange thing is the who.is is showing the new name servers and new server details but not getting the new servers contents. Can anyone help me in this regard?

  I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido

  Basically I want to create a file which will automatically install a bunch of files without having to manually install each of them (i.e. Flash, Adobe Reader, MS Office, etc.). I'm guessing the easiest way to do this would be to create a batch file but I don't have much experience with the scripting side of things. I remember seeing a website at one point that would do this sort of thing for you but I'm not sure if that could be used offline or not. Thanks in advance...just looking to make things a bit more streamlined on new builds without the costs associated with imaging software. Thanks!

At that moment, does it then grab your Gmail address book, the Flash Cookies, and all the Local Shared Objects it can find, i.e. at the instant you READ the message with the ShoppyBag virus, is it already too late? Do you have to Delete it to the Trash , then Delete Forever it , without reading it to be safe?

  In my deployment on JBoss 5.1.0GA with JavaEE-5 I have beans of the general form public interface Foo { void baz (); } @Stateless public class FooBean implements Foo { void baz() { // ... } } I have assumed that this is the same as if I have explicitly annotated the Foo interface with @Local. From seeing a stack trace in the code I think that it is actually using a remote interface, whereas I want all of my beans to be local. Do I need to explicitly annotate interfaces as Local or is there some default? Finding documentation on this is proving challenging so any links to relevant documentation would be greatly appreciated.

• Vostro 1520 crash during bios update

  My Vostro 1520 (P8700 C2D) originally came with BIOS A02. This bios version have known problems with VT, so I had to upgrade to A05. During the upgrade, the notebook crashed. Needless to say, it won't boot anymore. The simple question is: is there a way to access the bios boot block to recover the bad flash with a crisis disk? I know that the MINI and the ALIENWARE models have this feature, but I can't seem to find anything about it in the Vostro machines. Any help will be much appreciated. PS: Dell's solution is to change the motherboard, but it will take several days, as the board isn't available in my country :( Regards, Deadmilkman

  Is there anyway to make a folder or a partition on a computer (Linux or Windows) act like a mass storage device to other computers or devices when connected with a Male-Male USB cable? For example, I have a Windows 7 computer with 2 partitions, C and D. I would then connect that computer to another computer or a Smart TV using a Male-Male USB cable, and the other computer or device recognizes a folder/partition on current computer as a mass storage device. Is this possible? If not, is there any USB switch that can connect an external hard drive or flash drive to both a computer and TV without the need to manually switch them? (I know about some USB switches, but they only support automatic switching with some certain types of printers, not with mass storage)

Now some other component does have the same reference and is adding items to and removing items from that collection. • What could cause a returning function to crash? C++

  So I have been debugging this error for hours now. I writing a program using Ogre3d relevant only because it doesn't load symbols so it doesn't let me stack trace which made finding the location of the crash even harder. So, write before I call a specific function I print out "Starting" then I call the function and immediately after I print "Stopping". Throughout the function I print out letters A-F where F is printed right before the function returns (one line above the last '}') The weird thing is when the crash occurs it is after the 'F' is printed but there is no 'Stopping'. Does this mean that the crash is happening in between somewhere? The only thing I can think of is something going wrong during the deallocation of some of the memory allocated during the function. I've never had anything happen like this, I will keep checking to make sure it's going wrong where I think it is.

• Log4J - Speed of resolving class/method/line references

  Does log4J still gather the class, method and line numbers by generating exceptions and inspecting the stack trace? Or has Java been optimized since Sun included their own logging framework. If not, why has there not been any optimizations made since. What is the main challenges in obtaining class, method and line numbers quickly and efficiently? Although I hate annotations and try to avoid them, has log4J not made use of this, such as: @log4j-class MyClass @log4j-method currentMethodOne At least this would avoid some companies bad habit of repeatedly writing/copying the method name as the first part of their logging message (which is seriously annoying). We have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we would like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Out team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? (3) Can these JavaScript modules be made portable and re-usable object modules for different environments and instances? The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex. Databases used are PostgreSQL and MySQL.
