• What is a good WordPress theme for long Objective-C code samples [closed]

  As some of you iPhone developers know, Objective-C can be a verbose language. Long, descriptive variable and method names are the norm. I'm not complaining, it makes code easier to read and code completion makes it easy to type. But damn! Check out this method name for getting a cell in a table view: -(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath; I have a WordPress blog where I publish my code samples as I'm learning the language. One thing I hate on other blogs is how the code won't fit in a column without that scroll bar or without wrapping around. It really made it hard for me to read and comprehend method names back when I was a super-noob (six months ago). Right now I use the clean-looking Fazyvo 1.0 theme by noonnoo. I love the look of it but the columns are just too narrow and it doesn't have support for wider ones. I could hand-modify it but then I'd have to maintain/redo those changes every time I updated it. Instead, I'm looking for a nice theme that has width control built-in and looks good at larger font sizes. Can anyone help? Note: I use WP-CodeBox for code syntax highlighting.

• How to make emacs accept UTF-8 from the keyboard

  My friends have persuaded me to "try again" (about the 5th time in about 12 years) with emacs. I'm currently suffering a little, and need help with emacs + utf-8. I'm running the 23.3.1 emacs gui on Windows 7 with my own custom keyboard layout (built with MS Keyboard Layout Creator). The layout has a full ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) character set, plus some additional characters from ISO-8859-9 (Latin-5, gis etc for Turkish) and w for Welsh (don't know where that one lives). In my .emacs, I have (blindly) added these lines: ;; key board / input method settings (setq locale-coding-system 'utf-8) (set-terminal-coding-system 'utf-8) (set-keyboard-coding-system 'utf-8) (set-language-environment 'UTF-8) ; prefer utf-8 for language settings Now, when I enter characters from ISO Latin-1 from the keyboard, they are accepted without problems, but characters from outside Latin-1 are "translated" to an approximate character in Latin-1. Thus, for example, Latin-5 "g" gets converted to a plain "g". Cutting and pasting, however, work fine. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I should like to make everything I do with emacs utf-8 with BOM.

• Monospace font which supports at least both of Korean hangul and the Georgian alphabet?

  Being both a language enthusiast and a programmer, I find myself often doing programming or text processing involving foreign language alphabets and scripts. One annoyance however is that CJK fonts (those which support Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean) usually only contain glyphs for Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic at best. Often the Asian glyphs will be beautiful but the other glyphs can be quite ugly. Just as often in text editors you can only choose a single font, not one for CJKV and one for other, which will be each used for rendering the appropriate characters. Korean is one of the languages I'm most interested in currently. I only need hangul / hangeul for monospaced editing, hanja isn't common enough to be a problem. Another of the languages I'm currently involved in is Georgian, which has its own alphabet which is a little exotic but has pretty good support in common fonts on Windows and *nix. But I am as yet unable to find a font with good Korean glyphs and also Georgian glyphs. My editor of choice is gVim, so an answer telling me how to set it to use two fonts together would be just as good. Currently I'm using it mostly under Windows 7 so a vim-specific solution would be needed rather than a *nix-specific solution.

• My Windows 7 has suddenly stopped displaying Unicode symbols

  For some strange reason, my computer suddenly doesn't show certain unicode characters anymore! I have no idea what happened. Affected applications include Windows Explorer (should be Japanese characters), Google Chrome (should be a heart), and Winamp (should be stars): Russian, German etc. characters are displayed normally. Chrome also displays Japanese script on websites, but not in the GUI. How can I fix it? Update: I have tried to use System Restore to fix it. I needed to go back in time quite a while because the most recent restore points didn't solve it so I used one from the middle of November. After that restore, Unicode symbols were displayed again. Then I updated my system with Windows Update again because those were removed during the restore. After that, the error occurred again! I then did a restore to a point before my new updates, but the error persists, and the old restore point (which I used before) is gone and there are currently no other snapshots of the system. Any suggestions on what to do now? Update 2: I could find a workaround: Control Panel ? Region and Language ? Administration ? Change Language for Unicode-incompatible programs to Japanese (Japan). All mentioned programs display their symbols correctly again. However, I don't consider this a fix because these programs are not usually Unicode-incompatible, and it also leads to some (non-serious) artifacts in some programs. I still welcome an answer that tells me what went wrong here and how to fix the issue.

• GtkView GtkSpell and myspell backend

  Hi I have an IM client pidgin. It is launched under locale ru_RU.UTF-8 Then when I type messages in GtkView widget it highlights the misspelled words. However it uses a GtkSpell which uses enchant, which uses myspell backend (I provided it with symlink to openoffice dictionaries folder /usr/share/enchant/myspell -- /usr/share/myspell/dict). Now the problem is that whichever language I use - it still uses ru_RU language to select the dictionary, so all english text is being underlined as a misspelled text. When I switch locale to en_US and then launch pidgin under it - then all russian text becomes misspelled. I don't like this behaviour as I use pidgin to chat in both languages. Is there a way to somehow setup enchant/myspell so that it searches in both dictionaries en_US and ru_RU independent of the locale I launched pidgin (GtkView) in ? I have Debian lenny/5.0.1 distro. enchant version 1.5.0. /usr/share/enchant/enchant.ordering looks like this: *:myspell meaning that for all languages backend is myspell myspell dictionary.lst file looks like this: DICT en GB en_GB DICT en US en_US THES en US th_en_US_v2 THES en GB th_en_US_v2 THES ru RU th_ru_RU_v2 DICT ru RU ru_RU DICT uk UA uk DICT ru RU en_US

• How to slow down audio files?

  I need a program (with an easy learning curve) that lets me slow down mp3 (at the very least this format) music and audiobook files. The software needs to be able to slow down the audio at the chosen speeds without altering the pitch and accuracy of the words being pronounced. Perhaps like the language software "Byki Deluxe's" "SlowSound" feature? I'm learning a foreign language (German) and I find the speeds at which the books are being read too fast. I need to hear the pronunciation of each word much more clearly to learn how to pronounce the words myself. Is there such a product out there? Now, I know you can slow down stuff in VLC but it sounds really artificial. I need something that slows down audio files without altering the accuracy of the words being pronounced. It doesn't have to be freeware; ease of use and quality is more important to me. Win 7 64-bit. IE 8. Edit: Are there any software-for-pay like Audacity? Only the beta works in Win 7. Also, I'd prefer to be able to slow down a file live and not have to create a new file to use the feature.

• Lenovo System Update Breaks Windows Live

  Hey everyone, I've been racking my brain (and fingers from typing) trying to solve this issue to no avail. I have a Lenovo computer and I install their system update tool to install all my missing drivers. However after this tool is installed Windows Live 2011 breaks, it will no longer sign in giving error number 8e5e0247 all the solutions online haven't helped. It appears that a language setting somewhere gets set to en_ms, and I'm en_ca. My computer is running Windows 7 x64. When i try to sign onto messenger it gives an error that (with some research) means your locale or language is not supported, I've searched my computer for any reference to en_ms but find none. Also a few other things seem to have broken, When a UAC box comes up it is no longer able to identify the publisher of anything, and also the indexing service does not work (I'm not sure if the indexing issue is related, but the UAC issue happened right after installation), I had this issue before but I don't remember how I fixed it, I believe it had something to do with environmental variables. When it goes to sign in it gets as far as the "Loading contacts" then stops and goes back to the sign in screen. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks

• Codecs, Premiere Pro & Quicktime: Import or Play Error

  Original Question I've been using a FS-H200 (not the Pro variant) recorder with a JVC ProHD camera. I have been shooting with the DTE FORMAT to Quicktime (.mov). I copied the files to an external hard drive and am now trying to edit. The files will play back in VLC, as they would be expected to. However they will not import into Adobe Premiere CS5.5, instead giving an error: Unsupported format or damaged file. Quicktime gives the following error when attempting to play the files: Error -2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie (Filename) To try and fix this, I have installed the following codec packs: K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit Full (version 5.9, latest) K-Lite Codec Pack 32-bit Full (version 8.4, latest) MainConcept Codec Suite (Broadcast) v5.1 for Adobe CS5 Reinstalled Quicktime with new download from Apple The same errors and problems still exist. From this I can assume that there is an issue with Quicktime and that is what Premiere is using as an encoder/decoder for the codec. Is there any way to fix this? • Advice on resizing 1280*720 for web audiences.

  Forgive my spelling, I'm posting this from my mobile. I've recently decided to record videos to help teach a visual language. My camera likes to boast it can record in 1280; its a cheap camera about £75 so the quality isn't amazing. But its okay. Anyways, it has some other settings for lower res, but I figure might as well record in a larger size in case the need arises for a bigger source file in the future. I've been looking at jw player to play the converted files (mp4 to flv I think). What do you think a good size would be to convert to? I want to to look nice and clear remembering it is a visual language so lip patterns, facial expressions, body movement, fingers etc are all important, sound is not that important but I would like to have a choice to toggle captions. • Why is only one wget command working in my crontab?

  I wish to fetch content from a PHP script on my server two times a day, altering a query variable lang to set what language we want, and save this content in two language specific files. This is my crontab: */15 * * * * ~root/apache.sh > /var/log/checkapache.log 10 0 * * * wget -O /path/to/file-sv.sql "http://mydomain.com/path/?lang=sv" 11 0 * * * wget -O /path/to/file-en.sql "http://mydomain.com/path/?lang=en" The problem is that only the first wget command line is being executed (or to be precise: the only file that is being written is /path/to/file-sv.sql). If I switch the second and the third row, /path/to/file-en.sql gets written instead. The first line always runs as expected, no matter where it is. I then tried using lynx -dump "http://mydomain.com/path/?lang=xx" > /path/to/file-xx.sql to no avail; still only the first lynx line executed successfully. Even mixing wget and lynx did not change this! Getting kinda desperate! Am I missing something? There are thousands of articles on crontab (combined with) wget or lynx, but all seems to cover basic setups and syntax. Does anyone got a clue of what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Alexander

• Kickstarting an Ubuntu Server 10.04 installation (DHCP fails)

  I'm trying to automate the network installation of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with an anaconda kickstart and everything seems to running except for the initial DHCP autoconfiguration. The installer attempts to configure the install via DHCP but fails on its first attempt. This brings me to a prompt where I can retry DHCP and it seems to always work on the second attempt. My issue is that this is not really automated if I have to hit retry for DHCP. Is there something I can add to the kickstart file so that it will automatically retry or better yet not fail the first time? Thanks. • Apache downloads php files instead of running their source

  I have just recently upgraded PHP 5.3 to 5.4 on my Debian Squeeze server. Now, instead of executing PHP files, Apache just downloads them, which is really bad. When I try to follow these steps, I get "broken packages" upon installing the libapache2-mod-php5 package. Also the answer tells me to add something to my httpd.conf, but it's empty. It is based on a sample program provided with the WebLogic Server installation. The sample is not installed by default, but needs to be installed manually using the WebLogic Server Custom Installation option, together with many, other useful samples. Go to $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/user_projects/domains/base_domain/bin  and execute . ./setDomainEnv.sh Collect the following information required to run the script: The JNDI name of a JMS queue to use In the Weblogic server console > Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > (Module name, e.g. TestJMSModule) > (JMS queue name, e.g. TestJMSQueue)Select the queue and note its JNDI name, e.g. jms/TestJMSQueue The JNDI name of a connection factory to connect to the queue Follow the same path as above to get the connection factory for the above queue, e.g. TestConnectionFactory and its JNDI namee.g. jms/TestConnectionFactory The URL and port of the WebLogic server running the above queue Check the JMS server for the above queue and the managed server it is targeted to, for example soa_server1. Leave the other values at their defaults. Press Finish Create a new Java class called QueueSend and use the default values This will create a file called QueueSend.java. Open QueueSend.java, if it is not already open and replace all its contents with the QueueSend java code listed above Some lines might have warnings due to unfound objects. These are due to missing libraries in the JDeveloper project. Add the following libraries to the JDeveloper project: right-click the QueueSend  project in the navigation menu and select Libraries and Classpath , then Add JAR/Directory  Go to the folder containing the JDeveloper installation and find/choose the file javax.jms_1.1.1.jar , e.g. at D:\oracle\jdev11116\modules\javax.jms_1.1.1.jar Do the same for the weblogic.jar file located, for example in D:\oracle\jdev11116\wlserver_10.3\server\lib\weblogic.jar Now you should be able to compile the project, for example by selecting the Make or Rebuild icons   If you try to execute the project, you will get a usage message, as it requires a parameter pointing to the WLS installation containing the JMS queue, for example t3://jbevans-lx.de.oracle.com:8001 . You can automatically pass this parameter to the program from JDeveloper by editing the project’s Run/Debug/Profile. Select the project properties, select Run/Debug/Profile and edit the Default run configuration and add the connection parameter to the Program Arguments field If you execute it again, you will see that it has passed the parameter to the start command If you get a ClassNotFoundException for the class weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory , then check that the weblogic.jar file was correctly added to the project in one of the earlier steps above. You need to make one more change to the project. If you execute it now, it will prompt for the payload for the JMS message, but you won’t be able to enter it by default in JDeveloper. You need to enable program input for the project first. Select the project’s properties, then Tool Settings, then check the Allow Program Input checkbox at the bottom and Save. Now when you execute the project, you will get a text entry field at the bottom into which you can enter the payload. You can enter multiple messages until you enter “quit”, which will cause the program to stop. • Nashorn in the Twitterverse, Continued

  After doing the Twitter example, it seemed reasonable to try graphing the result with JavaFX.  At this time the Nashorn project doesn't have an JavaFX shell, so we have to go through some hoops to create an JavaFX application.  I thought showing you some of those hoops might give you some idea about what you can do mixing Nashorn and Java (we'll add a JavaFX shell to the todo list.) Okay, with the meat out of the way, let's talk about the hoops. The  load method reads a script into memory and then gets engine to eval that script.  Note, that load also returns the result of the eval. Now for the fun part.  There are several different approaches we could use to communicate between the Java main and the script.  In this example we'll use a Java interface.  The JavaFX main needs to do at least start and stop, so the following will suffice as an interface; public interface Trending {     public void start(Stage stage) throws Exception;     public void stop() throws Exception; } At the end of the example's script we add; (function newTrending() {     return new Packages.Trending() {         start: function(stage) {             var data = getTrendingData();             graph(stage, data);             stage.show();         },         stop: function() {         }     } })(); which instantiates a new subclass instance of Trending and overrides the start and stop methods.  The result of this function call is what is returned to main via the eval. trending = (Trending) load("Trending.js"); To recap, the script Trending.js contains functions getTrendingData, graph and newTrending, plus the call at the end to newTrending.  Back in the Java code, we cast the result of the eval (call to newTrending) to Trending, thus, we end up with an object that we can then use to call back into the script.  trending.start(stage); Voila. ?

• Server.CreateObject Fails when calling .Net object from ASP on 64-bit windows in IIS 32-bit mode

  I have a server running Windows 2003 64-bit, that runs IIS in 32-bit mode. I have a COM object that was registered using the following command: C:\WINDOWS\microsoft.net\Framework\v2.0.50727>regasm D:\Path\To\MyDll.dll /tlb:MyTLB.tlb /codebase When I create the object via ASP I get: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 8000ffff' Server.CreateObject Failed /includes/a_URLFilter.asp, line 19 8000ffff When I create the object in a vbs script and use the 32-bit version of cscript (in \Windows\syswow64) it works fine. I've checked permissions on the DLL, and the IUSR has Read/Execute. Even if I add the IUSR to the Administrators group, I get the same error. • OS X: Finder error -36 when using SMB shares on a Samba server bound to AD

  We're looking at deploying SMB homes on Debian (5.0.3) for our mac clients rather than purchasing four new Xserves. We've got our test servers built and functioning properly. Windows clients behave perfectly, but we've run into an issue with OS X (10.6.x and 10.5.x). We're going this route instead of Windows file servers due to a whole bunch of other issues that arise when going that way. Specifically, when mounting a SMB share with unix extensions switched on and the remote server bound to AD, the finder cannot save files on the share, instead touching the file and then bombing out with a -36 IO error, folder creation is fine. Copying files in the terminal behaves fine and the problem seems to be limited to the finder. The issue arises (I think) as the remote UID/GID is passed across when using unix extensions. OS X uses its own winbind idmap (odsam) to work out the effective UID/GID from AD users and groups whilst we're using a rid map on the server. Consequently, there is a mismatch in ownership which the finder chooses to honour. How OS X appears to handle this is to use the remote uid and gid at the file permission level (see below) and then set an OS X acl granting the local uid/gid to have the appropriate permissions on the file. I think the finder touches the file (which the kernel allows because of the ACL) and then checks the filesystem perms and drops out with the IO error. This works for most things but is causing a few apps that expect certain perms to break in subtle ways. Worst case scenario is that we'll continue running in this way but we would like to have the unix extensions on. Regards. • Why load increase ,ssd iops increase but cpu iowait decrease?

  There is a strange thing on my server which has a mysql running on it. The QPS is more than 4000 but TPS is less than 20. The server load is more than 80 and cpu usr is more than 86% but iowait is less than 8%. The disk iops is more than 16000 and util of disk is more than 99%. When the QPS decreases, the load decreases, the cpu iowait increases.
