  • June 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE Released

    Hi, this is Eric Maurice. Oracle just released the June 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE.  This Critical Patch Update provides 14 new security fixes across Java SE products.  As discussed in previous blog entries, Critical Patch Updates for Java SE will, for the foreseeable future, continue to be released on a separate schedule than that of other Oracle products due to previous commitments made to Java customers.  12 of the 14 Java SE vulnerabilities fixed in this Critical Patch Update may be remotely exploitable without authentication.  6 of these vulnerabilities have a CVSS Base Score of 10.0.  In accordance with Oracle’s policies, these CVSS 10 scores represent instances where a user running a Java applet or Java Web Start application has administrator privileges (as is typical on Windows XP).  When the user does not run with administrator privileges (typical on the Solaris and Linux operating systems), the corresponding CVSS impact scores for Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability for these vulnerabilities would be "Partial" instead of "Complete", thus lowering these CVSS Base Scores to 7.5. Due to the high severity of these vulnerabilities, Oracle recommends that customers obtain and apply these security fixes as soon as possible: Developers should download the latest release at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html    Java users should download the latest release of JRE at http://java.com, and of course  Windows users can take advantage of the Java Automatic Update to get the latest release.   • Multiple thunderbird Icons in System Tray(Windows 7) & TaskBar

    Is this some new "feature" for thunderbird 8? When I start thunderbird it starts by opening thunderbird. Once it is loading thunderbird it loads another 6 thunderbirds. The windows are called Mozilla Thunderbird Inbox - myEmail@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - AotherEmail@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - AotherEmail2@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - AotherEmail2@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird (yes it repeats the same one a few times) Inbox - AotherEmail2@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird I have 7 email accounts but for whatever reason it only made 3 windows. What happened to the one window? When I minimize to tray I got 4 of thunderbird icons. When closing one of them all of the close. My other windows 7(32 bit not 64 bit) only have one instance.

  • How to disallow indexing but allow crawling?

    In the front page of my website, I have some previews to articles (with a small introduction to them) that link to the full articles. I want to disallow the front page to prevent duplicate content. But if I do this (in robots.txt), would it still be crawled? I mean, the full articles would be still reached by the crawler even though I disallowed the only page that links to them? I don't want the webcrawler not to access the page and enter the links in them, but I just don't want it to save the information (that will be repeated in the full articles).

  • Need advice for approach for a web-based app that loads excel worksheet but exposes only the charts

    I'm looking for suggestions on the Visual Studio approach to take for a web application that is in the conceptual stage. My environment has a lot of tools: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64bit Visual Studio 2010 Professional Edition Sharepoint 2010 Server Enterprise Edition SQL Server 2008 R2 Office 2010 Professional I know I will need this app to retrieve data from a database (or a web service - not sure exactly at this point). The data needs to be placed in an Excel workbook dynamically. The app will need to have a nice user interface (standard web controls - perhaps with some Javascript effects). The Excel ribbon and worksheet grid will need to be hidden. Some web control(s) will cause the Excel chart(s) to be rendered. I am thinking this sounds like Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) so as to leverage .Net and hide Excel. Can you offer suggestions regarding: One ASP.Net Web App Project One Class Library Project for Excel or perhaps which one of the several different Excel 2010 project types (addin, template, document) Would Excel Services for Sharepoint be useful (or required) ? I am feeling a little overwhelmed with so many choices at this early stage of conceptualizing the app. Can you suggest some ideas for this sort of thing? Also, I am a bit more experienced with C# but I've read VB.Net is better for work with the Excel object model. What are general advises with regard to tool choice and overall approach tradeoffs?

  • Postfix SMTP sends to localhost, ignores MX records set to Google Apps

    I have the MX records for zaltin.com set to the Google Apps domains (aspmx.l.google.com etc.). If an email is sent to kerrick@zaltin.com from most places, it goes to my Google Apps account. However, on the zaltin.com server (Ubuntu 10.04 if it matters), sending via SMTP (postfix), if I send to kerrick@zaltin.com (via the Pony ruby gem if it matters), it simply routes to kerrick@localhost (showing up via the mail command) instead of going to my Google Apps account (where it should show up in my GApps Gmail inbox). Can I make email sent via SMTP on my server, through my server, not go to my server but to Google Apps?

  • Blogger Template: How is inline style tag getting attached to img? [migrated]

    Examining a blogger template's img tag (data:post.thumbnailUrl) i've approached a mystery. An inline style tag controlling the width, margin and heigh perimeters are getting added to my img element. They are auto adjusting the images ratio to fit a smaller size. But I can't figure-out where this style tag script lives and how it's happening in my template. My template has no special javascript or jquery scripts. The full size images in the single posts page don't have this style tag.     Following upgrade to 12.10, my usb drives - both pen drives and a usb hard drive - fail to mount with the error message: Unable to mount *name of drive* volume Adding read ACL for uid 1000 to '/media/*my home file name*' failed: Operation not supported This is on a desktop Dell Inspiron 530. I also have a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook which I also upgraded to 12.10 (slightly smaller installation on a flash hard drive). all devices mount automatically without problems on this computer.

  • SQL Triggers and when or when not to use them.

    When I was originally learning about SQL I was always told, only use triggers if you really need to and opt to use stored procedures instead if possible. Now unfortunately at the time (a good few years ago) I wasn't as curious and caring about fundamentals as I am now so never did ask to the reason why. What's the communities opinion in this? Is it just someone's personal preference, or should triggers be avoided (just like cursors) unless there is a good reason for them.

  • Clip Grab for Ubuntu 12.04

    Having issues downloading the newest version of Clip Grab http://clipgrab.de/en, I tried to install it in the terminal, tried finding the software in Ubuntu Software Center, I have even tried to extract the folder for which the software is in at, no luck... When trying to install in the terminal it gives me an error about my ppa. No luck what-so-ever. I love this program, it has worked for several months, and this is annoying that I can not use this program now. Please respond back to me, I also have had no luck with response either.

These safe, clean servers will be turned off on July 9, 2012.     I have been using ubuntu 11.10 for 1 year,today it made me surprised. When I open google chrome it just closes itself. Firstly i thought that it is just for chrome and tried Firefox : It also closes itself and one thing more : I tried desktop programs such as image viewer it also closes itself.I restarted it but there is no changing.What can do this ? is it virus or another system problem ?   • Choice of node.js modules to demo flexibility

    I'm putting together a presentation to talk about and demo node.js to client-side JavaScript developers. The language concepts and syntax are not an issue for them, so instead I'd like to get right into things and show off node's abilities that differ from client-side scripting. There are numerous modules available in the NPM registry and many people have much more experience with the registry than I do. I'm looking for a selection of node modules based on recommendations from your experience that show a variety of uses for node that are practical, broadly useful and can be demonstrated with a small code sample without requiring much domain knowledge on behalf of the audience. Neat and impressive is good too - I can throw in a couple of shock and awe items for cool factor. To be fair, top-voted answers will get most consideration for inclusion. My hope is this will result in a well-rounded demonstration of node technology.

  • What Windows licenses are required to run additional terminal service sessions

    We need to build out a server running Windows 2008 R2 Standard that can allow up to 10 simultaneous RDP/Terminal Services connections and I'm a little confused about how the CAL licenses work. From one source I was told I needed 10 "server CALs" and an additional 10 "RDP CALs" (total of 20 CALs). From another, I was told I just needed the 10 "RDP CALs", which implicitly came with the server CAL. The Microsoft licensing website (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/licensing-rds.aspx) seems to support scenario #1, but it is still not real clear what those server CALs are needed for. Also, can we use the 2 "built-in" RDP clients, meaning we only need to purchase 8 CALs to reach a total of 10?

  • using wildcards in host-aliases for Tomcat's virtual hosts

    I want to do the following with Tomcat 5.5: *.mydomain.com should go to my webapp, located at the virtual host mydomain.com. So I have a virtual host mydomain.com, and I want all *.mydomain.com also go there. Now, if I do this, it doesn't pick up the virtual host, and just goes to the default one (which is not set to mydomain.com). How to fix this? I basically would like to allow wildcards in the host alias, or in the virtual host name itself. (The DNS settings are alright by the way)
