  • 301 redirects in .htaccess on apache

    I guess this should be straightforward but my host got me to switch server from zeus to apache following which the .htaccess file with existing individual 301 redirects failed to work causing an internal server error, so have commented them out for the time being. Could someone explain how to set these up to work in their new apache context? Have no apache experience Example redirect: Redirect 301 /pages/exhibitions/thegreatindoors.html http://www.klassnik.com/pages/thegreatindoors.html Read a lot about mod rewrites etc but not sure what to write.   • PHP Sessions data lost when changing directory?

    I've got a simple login system using PHP sessions, but just recently it seems that if you visit pages not in a certain directory (/login/) you will always be flagged as not logged in, even when you are. It seems that my session data is being lost when I change directories (say, to /login/user/). I don't think I've touched the code myself since the problem appeared, is there something my web host could have done to my PHP installation that would delete the session data, and is there a workaround?

It seems that Google Sites only simulates subdirectories on FileCabinet pages. Is there an alternative Google Sites approach? Or is there a way to set up a P2 site without subdirectories or so that Install New Software will reference a zip file? Any alternative recommendations?

    I need a virtual server for web development, it'll host Apache+Postgres+Ruby+something else. What's the most effective software to run such a server? (ie with least virtualization overhead) Is there a way to run Linux as as service? I use VirtualBox at the moment, but it's inconvenient in some ways, such as it needs an emulator window open which also captures keyboard input when alttabbed into. (Also, coLinux hangs at boot on my machine, so it's probably not an option)

The results are then put into the appropriate label. My question is, should I be using separate events for each input box, since they update different labels? Or, can I use 1 event and check who the caller was, then update the appropriate label?

  • Socket connection to a telnet-based server hangs on read

    I'm trying to write a simple socket-based client in Python that will connect to a telnet server. I can test the server by telnetting to its port (5007), and entering text. It responds with a NAK (error) or an AK (success), sometimes accompanied by other text. Seems very simple. I wrote a client to connect and communicate with the server, but it hangs on the first attempt to read the response. The connection is successful. Queries like getsockname and getpeername are successful. The send command returns a value that equals the number of characters I'm sending, so it seems to be sending correctly. But in the end, it always hangs when I try to read the response. I've tried using both file-based objects like readline and write (via socket.makefile), as well as using send and recv. With the file object I tried making it with "rw" and reading and writing via that object, and later tried one object for "r" and another for "w" to separate them. None of these worked. I used a packet sniffer to watch what's going on. I'm not versed in all that I'm seeing, but during a telnet session I can see my typed text and the server's text coming back. During my Python socket connection, I can see my text going to the server, but packets back don't seem to have any text in them. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong, or any strategies to try?
