  • IE7 and IE8 change event not being thrown for text input

    I have a form that I auto focus at startup of the page with jquery. I also have change event handlers in place for whenever an input changes. If I change the value of the first field that was autofocused, and then move to the next field, the change event handler doesn't fire. If I remove the autofocusing, and just focus manually, then change it then move to the next field, the change event does fire. This only happens on IE. It works fine on firefox and chrome. Anyone experience this before?

  • Styling related issue in IE8

    I am using a background image to display as a button. The button shows up well in all versions of firefox, chrome, opera etc. However, the image fails to render itself in IE8. Only the image is not being shown, some of the other class styling gets applied such as width, height etc. Even more confounding is that in another page(though a different class and style sheet), an image of similar proportions gets displayed in similar usage. The image format is JPG. I'm copy-pasting the valid style attributes for both cases as shown by firebug below.     I am trying to switch a series of blocks between "none" and "block" based on the OnMouseOver property and to change the title of the selected list to yellow at the same time.     Hey all, I've been trying to throw together a generic function that retrieves the absolute URL of an executing JavaScript file on a web page: http://gist.github.com/433486 It works great in almost all the browsers I've tested (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera v10 at least, and IE 8). It seems to fail, however, in IE 6 and 7. The callback function gets executed, but the retrieved name is simple the URL to the main HTML page, not the JavaScript file. So all I'm really asking is if there's some other way of getting the URL of the current JavaScript file (which could be IE 6 and 7 specific)? Thanks in advance!

    Hi all I have 3 divs with rollover images inside them stacked vertically inside my main content div. IE7 is chopping off about three quarters of the bottom div and I can't figure out why. It displays perfectly in all other browsers (even IE6) but IE7 just won't display properly. This is my first website so I still have a lot to learn. I've managed to fix the other IE bugs but just can't figure this one out.     I can't seem to get my <div> height in IE (7) to be shorter than 20px: <div style="background: green; height: 1px;"> </div> Using the above code (both with and without html and body tags) the height of the div cannot seem to drop below a certain value (I think it is 20px). Any ideas?

  • IE8 $('body').width() is 0 on $(window).load()

    On $(document).ready I run through a for loop twice and alert out the body's width ($('body').width();) each time through. I get a value I would expect (ex. 1092). On $(window).load I run through another for loop twice, also alerting out the body's width each time through. I get 0 the first time through (and the page looks completely blank behind the alert), and then a value I would expect the second time through (ex. 1092). This is an issue I am not able to replicate in a stripped-down example, nor any other browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE9, IE10). Does anyone have any ideas, or other things that I could test for? I am using $(window).load to cut up some divs based on their width, which is based on their font size, which is based on a webfont (which isn't necessarily loaded by the time $(document).ready fires).

  • Drop down menu going under #main div background in IE 7/8/9

I am going to fit the navigation list items on the header, but when the drop down menu is implemented I'm pretty sure it'll go under the #main div like you see currently. Is there any easy way fix to this? I couldn't find anything related to this from a google search .. was hoping someone could help me out. Below is the relevant CSS .. I tried playing around with z-index with no luck as I was told IE8 renders it strangely. If you have the time please follow the link with IE and leave a response .. I am trying to be as cross-browser compatible as possible and already am at a pretty pathetic start.   • Du tells me it can't find the current directory?

    I'm on AIX, and in some directories I can't use the du command. I get the follow error message: du: 0653-175 Cannot find the current directory. Obviously the current directory exists, and I have permissions to it. I can list the directory and create files in it, both before and after I ran du. What could possibly be wrong here? The du command works just fine in my home directory. A quick google search turns up a bunch of forum posts of the same problem, but no clear answers.

  • Maximum number of files in one ext3 directory while still getting acceptable performance?

    I have an application writing to an ext3 directory which over time has grown to roughly three million files. Needless to say, reading the file listing of this directory is unbearably slow. I don't blame ext3. The proper solution would have been to let the application code write to sub-directories such as ./a/b/c/abc.ext rather than using only ./abc.ext. I'm changing to such a sub-directory structure and my question is simply: roughly how many files should I expect to store in one ext3 directory while still getting acceptable performance? What's your experience? Or in other words; assuming that I need to store three million files in the structure, how many levels deep should the ./a/b/c/abc.ext structure be? Obviously this is a question that cannot be answered exactly, but I'm looking for a ball park estimate.

  • Why is .htaccess not allowed in a directory but is allowed in another?

    I have apache2 installed on ubuntu 10.4 inside my var/www/ directory [amung others] I have a cakephp and a dvdcatalog directories. Each of which have CakePHP 1.3 installed. I can access them both via localhost/cakephp and localhost/dvdcatalog But the dvdcatalog shows up with no css styling. They both have these files: /var/www/cakephp/app/webroot/css/cake.generic.css /var/www/dvdcatalog/app/webroot/css/cake.generic.css But when I go to http://localhost/cakephp/css/cake.generic.css it sees the file but it does not see the file when I go to http://localhost/dvdcatalog/css/cake.generic.css I think this means the cakephp folder is able to use .htaccess and the dvdcatalog is not. I setup the cakephp directory last month when I was following in the blog tutorial. I am setting up the dvdcatalog directory now for a different tutorial. So I am not sure if I am missing a step. in my /etc/apache2/apache2.conf file I have this: <Directory "/var/www/*"> Order allow,deny Allow from all AllowOverride All </Directory> Which I thought gave .htaccesss to all. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

    I was looking for a way to portfoward 0.0.0.0 default gateways and I found in a Microsoft page that I had to try the command route delete 0.0.0.0, my internet disconnected and I couldn't connect to the internet anymore... Does anyone have a solution? It's an ADSL Modem. I have: Windows 7 x32 4 GB ram A kanji modem that has this problem too... It's like Windows doesn't detect the wireless adapter, so it won't connect to the internet.

  • How to make new file permission inherit from the parent directory?

    I have a directory called data. Then I am running a script under the user id 'robot'. robot writes to the data directory and update files inside. The idea is data is open for both me and robot to update. So I setup the permission and owner group like this drwxrwxr-x 2 me robot-grp 4096 Jun 11 20:50 data where both me and robot belongs to the 'robot-grp'. I change the permission and the owner group recursively like the parent directory. I regularly upload new files into the data directory using rsync. Unfortunately, new files uploaded does not inherit the parent directory's permission as I hope. Instead it looks like this -rw-r--r-- 1 me users 6 Jun 11 20:50 new-file.txt When robot tries to update new-file.txt, it fails due to lack of file permission. I'm not sure if setting umask helps. In anycase the new files does not really follow it. $ umask -S u=rwx,g=rx,o=rx I'm often confounded by Unix file permission. Do I even have a right plan? I'm using Debian lenny.
