  • MVC model flow?

    I am setting up an application using the MVC model and I have a query regrading the flow of information from the UI to the data model. What I need to do is place data from the UI in the model, what I have done is write a method in the view which collects the required data in an object and then passes it to the model. The model then takes ownership of the data so that the view can release its ownership. Does this sound sensible?

  • Strange error inserting new relationship data in core-data

    My app will allow users to create a personalised list of events from a large list of events. I have a table view which simply displays these events, tapping on one of them takes the user to the event details view, which has a button "add to my events". In this detailed view I own the original event object, retrieved via an NSFetchedResultsController and passed to the detailed view (via a table cell, the same as the core data recipes sample). I have no trouble retrieving/displaying information from this "event". I am then trying to add it to the list of MyEvents represented by a one to many (inverse) relationship: This code: NSManagedObjectContext *context = [event managedObjectContext]; MyEvents *myEvents = (MyEvents *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MyEvents" inManagedObjectContext:context]; [myEvents addEventObject:event];//ERROR And this code (suggested below): //would this add to or overwrite the "list" i am attempting to maintain NSManagedObjectContext *context = [event managedObjectContext]; MyEvents *myEvents = (MyEvents *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"MyEvents" inManagedObjectContext:context]; NSMutableSet *myEvent = [myEvents mutableSetValueForKey:@"event"]; [myEvent addObject:event]; //ERROR Bot produce (at the line indicated by //ERROR): *** -[NSComparisonPredicate evaluateWithObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance Seems I may have missed something fundamental. I cant glean any more information through the use of debugging tools, with my knowledge of them. 1) Is this a valid way to compile and store an editable list like this? 2) Is there a better way? 3) What could possibly be the deallocated instance in error? -- I have now modified the Event entity to have a to-many relationship called "myEvents" which referrers to itself. I can add Events to this fine, and logging the object shows the correct memory addresses appearing for the relationship after a [event addMyEventObject:event];. The same failure happens right after this however. I am still at a loss to understand what is going wrong.   • iPhone: Push Navigation Controller (w/ TableViewController) onto stack. Is this possible?

    I have a view which contains a UIButton. When this is clicked, it calls a method that loads another NIB. Now, normally, that nib would load a view onto the stack, and everything would be fine. But, I am trying to load a Navigation Controller (so that I can have table views that are multiple levels deep), and all I get it errors. What is the proper method for loading a Navigation Controller and putting it on the top of the stack?

  • Detecting Touches in an OpenGL rendered scene

    Hey. I was wondering whether there is a way to detect a touch in an OpenGL rendered scene. What I have i a set of images which are being rendered in my main view. Now if the user touches one of these images (or objects) I would like to know which one was touched - similar to the CGRectContainsPoint(frame, [touch locationInView:self.view] method. Is there an easy way to find out? If there is none, this would also help.

    Introduction I have a ListView and want to format only the second column. I was checking it with the Coded UI Test Builder and the property is empty. The Text and the Foreground property are being set correctly. Question Does anyone know why AutomationProperties.Name is not being set?     I have an app with a tab bar, and nav controllers in each tab. When user shakes the device, a UIImageView appears as a child view in the nav controller. But the UIImageView must contain a special image, depending on the device's current orientation.   • Most effective way to draw 4 lines on a screen?

    basic question, but I'm unsure: I want to draw 4 short lines 1px lines on a view. What is the best way to approach this task? Options:- Load an image of the line, can create 4 UIImageViews with it. Create my own subclass of a UIView that draws a line in the draw rect method. Draw elsewhere on another view, another UIImageView that has an UIImage inside it (is this possible?) Another way? Thanks Ross

  • Hiding a navigation bar via scrolling (safari style)

    After a page is loaded in Safari on the iPhone, when you begin scrolling down, the navigation bar is also scrolled out of view. When you scroll back up, the navigation scrolls back into view. I'm looking to implement this same behavior using a UIWebView underneath the UINavigationBar, but I'm guessing it should be possible with any UIScrollView descendant. How can this behavior be implemented?

    It appears that ViewDidLoad() is sent to a ViewController only after its View is physically displayed (i.e. via NavigationController pushViewController), and not immediately after initWithNibName(). Is this a behavior I can rely on? I would like to get the chance to set the member variables of my view so that all the members are valid by the time ViewDidLoad() is invoked.
