  • Is ECC mandatory in SSD technology?

    While shopping for an SSD I have noticed that some manufacturers promote their "Pro" models as the ones sporting ECC data protection. Those manufacturers do not mention ECC in their budget models descriptions. However, Wikipedia article on flash memory states that "NAND relies on ECC to compensate for bits that may spontaneously fail during normal device operation." So the question is does any SSD device use ECC behind the scenes for its normal operation and is that ECC "feature" just a marketing ploy?

  • Windows 7 removes boot camp drivers on reboot

    I'm installing boot camp on 64 bit windows 7 home premium from a leopard disc. During installation I get a couple of errors saying that some driver publishers are not registered or something and I install them anyway. After reboot windows tries to repair something and reboots again. When I finally log in, there is no boot camp any more. Any ideas how to solve this? Thanks btw, I'm using Macbook Pro 15 inch Santa Rosa (late 2007)

  • Permanently remove/disable Touch Keyboard in Windows 8 taskbar?

    I have Windows 8 (final, MSDN) on my Macbook Pro Retina. Windows 8's ongoing, continuous tantrum of insisting that it's on a tablet device is causing it to always have a touch keyboard 'icon' on the taskbar. The 'icon' is actually a toolbar and I can temporarily disable it by right clicking the taskbar and DE-selecting it. However, upon rebooting the system, it always insists on coming back and activating itself. How can I permanently disable the touch keyboard toolbar in the taskbar?

    Hi all. I'm having trouble install WinXP Pro on my pc because NTLDR is missing or can't find during installation process. I highly doubt it's my DVD drive because this machine work fine before the install process. The DVD rom work. Is there a work around for this problem? edit: this is the problem that i'm having. I'm trying to reformat the hard disk with killdisk.

    I hear that Windows 8 Pro can use full disk encryption. I also understand that Win8 is targeting the "slate" / "tablet" form factor specifically. But all my previous experience with BitLocker requires you to put in some kind of PIN or password at boot time -- how can I do this without a (hardware) keyboard? This preview of an upcoming Win8 tablet mentions BitLocker but doesn't address the PIN issue. Am I missing something?

    I have a folder on the desktop which is about 1.6 GB in size. When I try to open it I get a message like this: The file or directory is corrupt or unreadable Fortunately, I have a backup of that folder so I want to get rid of this folder. If I try to delete it, it fails to delete however I can rename the folder, move it and do whatever except deletion. I've tried various methods but could not succeed. I am using Windows 8.1 Pro.

    When I play any high-end game like NFS Most Wanted or FIFA 12, I get these weird things on my graphics. While playing NFS, my car has various transparent diamonds all over its body, and while playing FIFA I get these weird black lines all over the field.     Hi, I've created a form in a PDF with Adobe Acrobat Pro. When empy, I want to use it as a template which the user opens, fills in, and saves as a copy to preserve the blank state of the template. Here's the trick : I found both ways to make the document read only - the user can't save the form value, only print them make the document writeable, but in this case the document acting as a template can be modified too. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hardware acceleration disabled." and further down "Accelerated rasterization has not been enabled or is not supported by the current system." Is there a way to enable hardware acceleration?

I was testing my HD permission since i found that the start up is slow in mac side. I found there's alot of changes in permissions is that normal or i should to repair all this permission problems, need to mention that from Windows side i can see my mac drive which i don't want...   • Reset network (airport) connections from the command line

    I have this MacBook Pro that has intermittent problems connecting to my Wifi network. Sometimes it helps to disable/re-enable airport and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get my network running again. Has anyone experienced this? And is there a command I can run that would do the same as I do when I restart the computer (short of actually restarting it, obviously) or at least a command that restarts the airport service?   • Outlook accepting meetings on behalf of?

    A couple of my users are having a problem where they will accept a meeting request, but the accept notice sent to the meeting coordinator says, "Accepted on behalf of X user by Y user." I have triple checked the settings for the permissions, and none of the people accepting on behalf of have access. (Not that they are actually doing the accepting anyways.) We are currently using an Exchage2003 server with Office 2007. OS wise it's XP pro SP3.

    I am unable to connect my Nokia 2690 to my PC via data cable using Nokia PC Suite under Windows XP SP3 Pro 32 bit. Every time I connect my mobile using the data cable, the Nokia App shows a window where it says it's "Installing the required drivers. Please wait". But even after several hours my phone never conects to my PC and the screen remains there idle. I checked in he task manager, Nokia PC Suite didn't go unresponsive.
