• Glassfish, railo and coldbox - messed up links?

  I am new to ColdFusion and ColdBox (and programming). I tried to setup ColdBox but some of the links in the sample applications are broken. My configuration is a GlassFish v3 installation with the current Railo OSS. I access my site through Apache 2.2.14. So instead of http://127.0.0.1:8080/railo/ I access my environment trough http://railo/. In Railo I have a webroot mapping / to C:/webapps/myproject/. I have copied the current ColdBox 3M4 to C:/webapps/myproject/coldbox. I can access the dashboard through http://railo/coldbox/dashboard/index.cfm and have access to all options. My problems start the moment I try to open the sample gallery: HTTP Status 500 - type Exception report message description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request. exception java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\webapps\viss-dev\coldbox\samples (Zugriff verweigert) note The full stack traces of the exception and its root causes are available in the GlassFish v3 logs. GlassFish v3 OK, no problem, just enter the link directly: http://railo/coldbox/samples/index.cfm. The site looks plain, who cares - BUT all local links look like this: http://127.0.0.1:8080/coldbox/samples/applications/helloworld/index.cfm (railo is replaced with 127.0.0.1:8080). Looks like trouble. To make my confusion perfect: when I try to access the login app: http://railo/coldbox/samples/applications/sampleloginapp/index.cfm and hit the submit button, I am redirected to this address: http://railo/railo/coldbox/samples/applications/sampleloginapp/index.cfm. I believe that this is not really ColdBox-related, but it manifests itself when I try to use ColdBox, so here I am. P.S.: amazon.de takes too long to ship the ColdBox book :(

• Can iPad/iPhone Touch Points be Wrong Due to Calibration?

  I have an iPad application that uses the whole screen (that is, UIStatusBarHidden is set true in the Info.plist file). The main window's frame is set to (0, 0, 768, 1024), as is the main view in that frame. The main view has multitouch enabled. The view has code to handle touches: - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { for (UITouch *touch in touches) { CGPoint location = [touch locationInView:nil]; NSLog(@"touchesMoved at location %@", NSStringFromCGPoint(location)); } } When I run the app in the simulator, it works pretty much as expected. As I move the mouse from one edge of the screen to the other, reported X values go from 0 to 767. Reported Y values go from 20 to 1023, but it is a known issue that the simulator doesn't report touches in the top 20 pixels of the screen, even when there is no status bar. Here's what's weird: When I run the app on an actual iPad, the X values go from 0 to 767 as expected, but reported Y values go from -6 to 1017. The fact that it seems to work properly on the simulator leads me to suspect that real devices' touchscreens are not perfectly calibrated, and mine is simply reporting values six pixels too low. Can anyone verify that this is the case? Otherwise, is there anything else that could account for the Y values being six pixels off from what I expect? (In a few days, I should have a second iPad, so I can test this with another device and compare the results.)

• Rails does not display error messages on a form in a custom method

  Hi all, I've created a custom method called checkout in my app. I create an order (which is done my adding products to my "cart"), assign it to my client, and then I head to my checkout screen where I confirm the items and enter their customer order number and complete the order (submit). Everything works great except that it doesn't display error messages. I'm able to display a flash error notice (seen in complete_order method) when things go wrong but it doesn't specify the details like a normal form would. The error messages should appear if the customer order number is not unique for that client. Below is the custom method (checkout) related code. • Creating a REST client API using Reactive Extensions (Rx)

  I'm trying to get my head around the right use cases for Reactive Extensions (Rx). The examples that keeps coming up are UI events (drag and drop, drawing), and suggestions that Rx is suitable for asynchronous applications/operations such as web service calls. I'm working on an application where I need to write a tiny client API for a REST service. I need to call four REST end-points, three to get some reference data (Airports, Airlines, and Statuses), and the fourth is the main service that will give you flight times for a given airport. I have created classes exposing the three reference data services, and the methods look something like this: public Observable<Airport> GetAirports() public Observable<Airline> GetAirlines() public Observable<Status> GetStatuses() public Observable<Flights> GetFlights(string airport) In my GetFlights method I want each Flight to hold a reference the Airport it's departing from, and the Airline operating the flight. To do that I need the data from GetAirports and GetAirlines to be available. My initial thinking was something like this: Write a Rx Query that will Subscribe on the three reference services (Airports, Airlines and Statuses) Add results into a Dictionary (airline code and Airline object) When all three GetAirports, GetAirlines and GetStatuses are complete, then return the GetFlights IObservable. Is this a reasonable scenario for Rx? I'm developing on the Windows Phone 7, so I'm not sure if there are major differences in the Rx implementations across the different platforms.

• MySQL database design question

  I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons of a database design, and would like to get some feedback as to the best approach. Here is the situation: I have users of my system that have only a few required items (username, password). They can then supply a lot of optional information. This optional information continues to grow as the system grows, so I want to do it in such a way that adding new optional information is easy. Currently, I have a separate table for each piece of information. For example, there's a table called 'names' that holds 'user_id', 'first_name', and 'last_name'. There's 'address', 'occupation', etc. You get the drift. In most cases, when I talk to my database, I'm looking only for users with one particular qualifier (name, address, etc.). However, there are instances when I want to see what information a user has set. The 'edit account' page, for example, must run queries for each piece of information it wants. Is this wasteful? Is there a way I can structure my queries or my database to make it so I never have to do one query for each piece of information like that without getting my tables to huge? If i want to add 'marital status', how hard will that be if I don't have a one-table-per-attribute system? Thanks in advance.

  I have a linker error I've reduced to a simple example. • System.out.println() does not operate in Akka actor

  I am kind of baffled by this encointer. I am working an akka project that was created as a maven projecct and imported into eclipse using the mvn eclipse:eclipse command. the akka actor has the system println method just to make it easy to do read the functions and methods invoked.   I have inherited a large and firaly complex state machine at work. It has 31 possbile states to be in. It has the following inputs: Enum: Current State (so 0 - 30) Enum: source (currently only 2 entries) Boolean: Request Boolean: type Enum: Status (3 states) Enum: Handling (3 states) Boolean: Completed The 31 States are really needed (big business process). Breaking into seperate state machines doesnt seem feasable - each state is distinct.   I am a sharepoint newbee and am having trouble getting any search results to return using the search API in Sharepoint 2010 Foundation. Here are the steps I have taken so far. The Service Sharepoint Foundation Search v4 is running and logged in as Local Service Under Team Site - Site Settings - Search and Offline Availability, Indexing Site Content is enabled. Running the PowerShell script Get-SPSearchServiceInstance returns TypeName : SharePoint Foundation Search Description : Search index file on the search server Id : 91e01ce1-016e-44e0-a938-035d37613b70 Server : SPServer Name=V-SP2010 Service : SPSearchService Name=SPSearch4 IndexLocation : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Exten sions\14\Data\Applications ProxyType : Default Status : Online When I do a search using the search textbox on the team site I get a results as I would expect. Now, when I try to duplicate the search results using the Search API I either receive an error or 0 results. I compile this program to the name a.exe. Then from command prompt I type: c:\> a.exe (message box is displayed, I press ok) c:\> echo %ERRORLEVEL% 0 I get the same results if I do exit(90); right before the return. It still says 0. I also tried to start the program via CreateProcess and obtain the result with GetExitCodeProcess but it also returns 0 to me. I did error checking to ensure it was all started correctly. I originally seen this problem in a more complex program. But made this simple program to verify the problem. Results are the same, both programs that have WinMain return 0 always. I tried both x64, x86 and unicode and MBCS compiling options. All give 0 as an error level/status code.

• Return an empty collection when Linq where returns nothing

  I am using the below statement with the intent of getting all of the machine objects from the MachineList collection (type IEnumerable) that have a MachineStatus of i. The MachineList collection will not always contain machines with a status of i. At times when no machines have a MachineStatus of i I'd like to return an empty collection. My call to ActiveMachines (which is used first) works but InactiveMachines does not. public IEnumerable<Machine> ActiveMachines { get { return Customer.MachineList .Where(m => m.MachineStatus == "a"); } } public IEnumerable<Machine> InactiveMachines { get { return Customer.MachineList .Where(m => m.MachineStatus == "i"); } } Edit Upon further examination it appears that any enumeration of MachineList will cause subsequent enumerations of MachineList to throw an exeception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Therefore, it doesn't matter if a call is made to ActiveMachines or InactiveMachines as its an issue with the MachineList collection. This is especially troubling because I can break calls to MachineList simply by enumerating it in a Watch before it is called in code. At its lowest level MachineList implements NHibernate.IQuery being returned as an IEnumerable. What's causing MachineList to lose its contents after an initial enumeration?

• Running Solr on VPS problems

  I have a VPS with Ubuntu OS. I run solr om my local machine (windows xp laptop) just fine. I have configured Jetty, and Solr just the same way as on my computer, but on the server. I have also downloaded the JRE and installed it on the server. However, whenever I try to run the start.jar file, the PuTTY terminal shows a bunch of text but gets stuck. I could pase the text here but it is very long, so unless somebody wants to see it I wont. Also, I cant view the solr admin page at all. Does anybody have experience in this kind of problem? Maybe java isn't correctly installed? It is a VPS so maybe installation is different. • Django db encoding

  Hey, I have a little problem with encoding. The data in db is ok, when I select the data in php its ok. Problem comes when I get the data and try to print it in the template, I get - Å port instead of Šport, etc. Everything is set to utf-8 - in settings.py, meta tags in template, db table and I even have unicode method specified for the model, but nothing seems to work. I am getting pretty hopeless here... • Association and model data saving problem

  Developing with cakephp 1.3 (latest from github). There are 2 models bind with hasAndBelongsToMany: documents and tags. Document can have many tags in other words. I've add a new document submitting form there user can enter a list of tags separated with commas (new tag will be added, if not exist already). I looked at cakephp bakery 2.0 source code on github and found the solution.   Hey guys, I'm having an annoying problem. I'm trying to find out what fields of a form were changed, and then insert that into a table. I managed to var_dump in doUpdateObjectas shown in the following public function doUpdateObject($values) { parent::doUpdateObject($values); var_dump($this->getObject()->getModified(false)); var_dump($this->getObject()->getModified(true)); } And it seems like $this-getObject()-getModified seems to work in giving me both before and after values by setting it to either true or false. The problem that I'm facing right now is that, some how, sfWidgetFormSelect seems to be saving one of my fields as a string. before saving, that exact same field was an int. (I got this idea by var_dump both before and after). Here is what the results on both var dumps showed: array(1) {["annoying_field"]=> int(3)} array(1) {["annoying_field"]=>string(1)"3"} This seems to cause doctrine to think that this is a modification and thus gives a false positive. In my base form, I have under $this->getWidgets() 'annoying_field' => new sfWidgetFormInputText(), under $this->setValidators 'annoying_field' => new sfValidatorInteger(array('required' => false)), and lastly in my configured Form.class.php I have reconfigured the file as such: $this->widgetSchema['annoying_field'] = new sfWidgetFormSelect(array('choices' => $statuses)); statuses is an array containing values like {""a", "b", "c", "d"} and I just want the index of the status to be stored in the database. And also how can I insert the changes into another database table? let's say my Log table? Any ideas and advice as to why this is happen is appreciated, I've been trying to figure it out and browsing google for various keywords with no avail. Thanks! Edit: ok so I created another field, integer in my schema just for testing. I created an entry, saved it, and edited it. this time the same thing happened!
