• Converting ASP.NET web site to MVC2

  I have my existing web site developed using ASP.NET. It's college management system. Now I need to redevelop it on MVC2. What all changes do I need to do? I am little bit aware of MVC and have done some exercises also. Thing I know is I can keep my database intact but there will be massive changes at other places.   Going thru the excellent Apress books on Objective C. To help in my undertanding, I try and recode any Ojective C code samples in Java/Action-script. One common structure in method calls in ObjC leaves me a bit puzzled. -(id) initWithPressure: (float) pressure treadDepth: (float) treadDepth; (in ECMAscript)Would this be most similar to 1 method call with multiple arguments OR 2 method calls, each with a single argument?

• Cruisecontrol.NET & IIS7 Static File Handler Problem

  I'm trying to get Cruisecontrol.NET running with Server 2008/IIS7 and when I try and navigate to the dashboard I get the following error: HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. I'm a bit lost in IIS7 so it could be something pretty straightforward. They (cc.net) do some funny stuff with http handlers in the web.config which may be related to the problem: Anyone have any pointers?

  Let's say you have a single (1) Intel/AMD x86-64 bit 2 GHz 8 core processor. Does each of the 8 cores all run at the full 2 GHz or, does each core run at some fraction of the full 2 GHz clock (e.g. 250 MHz)?

  Hi, The developer guide in my company says class comments should go before Package statements, i.e it sould be the very first thing in a java file. I just find it a bit old. Isn't it normal practice to put class comments after import and above class declaration? Puzzled Sarah

• perl regex escape characters

  I have heard perl is a good language at doing regex but i am a bit confused at the characters that requires escaping I tested the code on http://regexlib.com/RETester.aspx and got the result I want //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp#1 //home/dev/((.*?)/[^/]+).*# Match $1 $2 //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp# abc/code abc However, I am not quite sure how do i translate this to perl code I tried, \/\/home\/dev\/\(\(\.\*\?\)\/\[\^\/\]\+\)\.\*\# and \/\/home\/dev\/((.*?)\/[^\/]+).*\# and both failed Don't you think the escaping makes the regex very unreadable? Am i using something wrong?

• Why use "foo" in coding examples? [closed]

  Possible Duplicates: To foo bar, or not to foo bar: that is the question. Bit of a general question here, but it's something I would like to know! Whenever I am looking for resolutions to my C# problems online, I always come across "foo" being used as an example. Does this represent anything or is it just one of those unexplained catchy object names, used by many people in examples?

Let's say I have a vector type in a class to store objects, something like vector, and I have methods on my class that will later return Operators from this vector. Now if any of my methods receives an Operator, will I have any trouble to insert it directly into the vector? Or should I use the copy constructor to create a new Operator and put this new one on the vector?

• Globals are bad! But should I use them in this context?

  Would setting the $link to my database be one thing that I should use a GLOBAL scope for? In my setting of (lots of functions)...it seems as though having only one variable that is in the global scope would be wise. I am currently using the functions to transfer it back and forth so that way I do not have it in the global scope. But it is a bit of a hindrance to my script. Please advise.

• devIL causes program to be unable to start correctly

  I just tried to use devIL and ULIT to help me with opengl texture loading. However, whenever the program starts, I get the error: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application." What happened? I'm using the Visual C++ 2010 RC, windows 7 64-bit.

• Wait for function to finish before starting again.

  Good Morning, I am trying to call the same function everytime the user presses a button. Here is what happens at the moment.. User clicks button - Calls function - function takes 1000ms+ to finish (due to animation with jQuery and AJAX calls) What I want to happen is every time the user presses the button it adds the function to the queue, waits for the previous call to finish, and then starts.. Is this possible? Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing.. Thanks Matthew

  What are your experiences with Beta2 of Visual Lightswitch? Can it already be used for real life projects? Does anybody know, when the final (RTM) version will be out? • Choosing a non microsoft language for web development?

  I am resonably experienced with asp.net and would like to learn a new language with a focus on web development. Licensing and hosting costs are why I would like to use something not reliant on microsoft so something based on open source technologies is a plus. I have had a tiny bit of experience with php and did not like it but I guess I could be convinced otherwise. Basically I'd like to know peoples opinion on the the best language for future web development with regards to longivity, resources, frameworks, hosting etc.

• C# Putting the required DLLs somewhere other than the root of the output

  I am using EmguCV for a project and when our program runs it needs some dlls like "cxcore.dll" etc. (or it throws runtime exceptions). At the moment, I put the files in the root of the output folder (selected "Copy Always" in the file's properties in Visual Studio). However it looks a bit messy, to have about 10 different dlls just there. Is there someway where I can move it to a subfolder in the output folder and it'll still find it.
