• Online Game programming in Google App Engine: AI

  I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

• How to assign a PHP variable that contains a mixed of PHP and html elements?

  I have a PHP page that contains html and tags and PHP codes and I am using AJAX to manipulate some data and now I need to spit out the response but I am not sure if it is possible to put the mixed content into a string variable to pass through... Is this possible? For example I need to: $response = "<p>some text--<?php echo $something; ?>"; Thanks... To clear things up, I am not trying to send raw PHP code to clientside as that would be silly and won't be evaluated as it is a server side script. I am just looking for a fast way to put everything into a variable without manually re-doing the whole page stripping out the php open and close tags and echos...etc

• Scanner's Read Line returning NoSuchElementException

  This is my first time using StackOverflow. I am trying to read a text file which consists of a single number one the first line. try { Scanner s = new Scanner(new File("HighScores.txt")); int temp =Integer.parseInt(s.nextLine()); s.close(); return temp; } catch (FileNotFoundException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } However, I get an error: java.util.NoSuchElementException: No line found at java.util.Scanner.nextLine(Unknown Source) at GameStart.getHighScore(GameStart.java:334) at GameStart.init(GameStart.java:82) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) I know that HighScores.txt is not empty, so why is this problem occuring? I tried using BufferedReader, and BufferReader.readLine() return null.

• passing something from child form to parent

  so i have this form and on it is a combo box populated from a database via a SQL method. and i have another form which allows us to maintain the database table etc. so i make a new instance of the second form doing: Form1 frm = new Form2; frm.show(); once i have done what ever i wanted to do on the second form and i close it, i need to somehow trigger an event or something which will refresh the combo box and the code behind it. i was thinking of some onchange or focus event for the whole form, the problem is i have 5 of these combo boxes and running all the SQL again. i also thought of passing somesort of variable thro but then i would still need an event for that. any ideals would be awesome

• Advice for building a browser-based audio mixer up to 32 tracks

  As a personal hobby I am looking to build an online audio mixer where I can upload individual instrument tracks, control individual volumes of each track, and export the mixed down version. I've been trying (and have come pretty close) with javascript. I really would like to stay away from flash if possible, but I'm really looking for suggestions for technologies to try. If anyone has any suggestions on languages that are good at stuff like this or libraries that I am missing, please let me know! • Why does the CPU window always appear when trying to debug my project after a rebuild in Delphi 2010

  Hi, Whenever I rebuild my application and try to step into a break-point the CPU window always appears. From what I understand the CPU window appears when DCU does not match up with the source file, however, in my case the DCU's are defintely being re-compiled and there are no old ones lying around or anything like that. The strange thing here is if I close down the application and re-open the project, place the breakpoint and run it works fine. I can even modify files and just press F9 to run the project and it works fine....it only seems to be when I rebuild the project (via IDE Project menu or the project context menu) that this CPU window never breaks into the source (even though it can find it!). I also noticed in the callstack a unit called Generics is always the top of the stack, never the unit my break point is in, this is no way related to where my break point is. Any ideas?

  I have a UINavigationController. On the right top i have a button on click of which i have to get a drop down table view. I created another UIViewController Class, with xib and added it as a subView to the current view. It should appear on 1st click and disappear on the 2nd click. This should happen for all click(open view and close view).   I was looking at this posting: Android: How to get screen dimensions when I was trying to determine the size of the device's screen while in a fragment class. One answer was close to what I needed but the only code that ended up working for me was: WindowManager wm = (WindowManager) getView().getContext().getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE); Display screen = wm.getDefaultDisplay(); whereupon I could then use getHeight(); or another non-deprecated term. I realize this is exactly the same as the other site except this way you don't have define your context on a separate line.

  Hi, My classifieds website has been present online since 2006, the html pages are indexed and rank as expected whereas a search on Google Images for site:example.com returns nothing & in Yahoo or Bing it returns only a few image results, 8 to 10. • Best way to force Spring shutdown from a bean?

  My application uses a Spring DefaultMessageListenerContainer to process incoming messages. The main method of the app already registers a shutdown hook. Question is this: what is the best way to force the application context to shut down? If I throw a RuntimeException in the message listener, it is handled by the container, and not passed on. Is calling System.exit acceptable? Do I pass along the ApplicationContext to every class that needs to shut down, so I can call close() on it?

  I have a very large binary file and I need to create separate files based on the id within the input file. There are 146 output files and I am using cstdlib and fopen and fwrite. FOPEN_MAX is 20, so I can't keep all 146 output files open at the same time. I also want to minimize the number of times I open and close an output file. How can I write to the output files effectively? I also must use the cstdlib library due to legacy code.

  Hi, Does anyone know of a C-based open source class / framework which can generate a random jigsaw puzzle from an image or generate a random puzzle template which could then be applied to an image? The puzzle pieces must have male and female notches/holes. There should be more than one template so that the puzzle does not become too easy. The target system is iOS / Mac. If not, how would you approach this problem? The puzzle pieces should be as close to a real jigsaw piece shape as possible and the system must be dynamic so that the user can use their own photos or download photos. thanks!

Link to add a new task (in the tasks index page) 2 . when a user click the link, 'tasks/new' action will open up inside a popup 3 . when the user save the new task, I want to close 'new task' popup and refresh the parent page 'tasks/index' so that new task will display I guess, i will have to execute a page reload java script at the end of 'tasks/create' action. • Minimized window position in WPF

  I am trying to save the position of a custom dialog to the users registry, so that when they reload the same dialog, it appears in the same place they moved or resized it to previously. I am saving the windows X position Y position Width and Height. It all works fine except for when the dialog is minimized. If the dialog is minimized and the user right clicks the dialogs representation on the taskbar (windows 7) they can click "close this window". Strangely, the number -32030 gets saved in the registry as the X and Y positions but the width and height get saved correctly. Any idea where this number comes from and what to do in this situation thx

• C++ USB Programming

  Hi, I am new to hardware programming(especially USB) so please bear with me and my questions. I am using C++ and I need to send/receive some data (a byte array) to/from a USB port on a microprocessor board. Now, I have done some serial port programming before and I know that for a serial port you have to open a port, setup, perform i/o and finally close the port. I am guessing to use a USB port, it is not as simple as what I mentioned above. I do know that I want to use Microsoft standard drivers and implement standard Windows IO commands to accomplish this, since I believe there are no drivers for the microprocessor board for me to interact with. If somebody can point me in the right direction as to the steps needed to "talk" to a USB port (open, setup, i/o) via standard Windows IO commands, I would truly and greatly appreciate it.   I am starting a process lets say abc.exe in a background worker. In the begining everything works fine but in between the newly created process i.e. abc.exe haults. Although I am starting abc.exe as hidden window but I come to know about its hang as it stopes doing log writing. When I close my UI form then again abc.exe starts working. Can anybody tell me what could be the possible cause for this? I am not able to debug the issue as it can happen at any time, I can not replicate it. Please tell me as it is very urgent for me. If some more info is required then please revert back.

I want the user to click the print button and automatically the document prints. • Is there a way of providing a final transform method when chaining operations (like map reduce) in underscore.js?

Say I wanted to do an operation like: take an array [1,2,3] multiply each element by 2 (map): [2,4,6] add the elements together (reduce): 12 multiply the result by 10: 120 I can do this pretty cleanly in underscore using chaining, like so: arr = [1,2,3] map = (el) -> 2*el reduce = (s,n) -> s+n out = (r) -> 10*r reduced = _.chain(arr).map(map).reduce(reduce).value() result = out(reduced) However, it would be even nicer if I could chain the 'out' method too, like this: result = _.chain(arr).map(map).reduce(reduce).out(out).value() Now this would be a fairly simple addition to a library like underscore. But my questions are: Does this 'out' method have a name in functional programming? Does this already exist in underscore (tap comes close, but not quite).
