  • Parsing GeoRSS Feed with jQuery

    I'm attempting to use the jQuery jFeed plugin for parsing an Atom, GeoRSS feed and I'm running into issues extracting the information I need. For example, I need to extract the summary element and I would like to render the contents in a div on my HTML page. Additionally, I'd like to extract the contents from the georss:point elements and pass them into Google Maps to render them as points on a map. The problem is that it seems jFeed is stripping out the GeoRSS-related information. For example, I can extract the title element without issues, but it seems it doesn't extract the summary or georss:point elements, at all.   • Sending an Activation Email when a New User Registers

    Hello, The code below is a login system that I am using. It is supposed to allow a new user to register and then send the new user an activation email. It is inserting the new user into the MySQL database, but it is not sending the activation email. Any ideas why it's not sending the activation email?   • Need help with setting up comet code

    Does anyone know off a way or maybe think its possible to connect Node.js with Nginx http push module to maintain a persistent connection between client and browser. I am new to comet so just don't understand the publishing etc maybe someone can help me with this. What i have set up so far is the following. I downloaded the jQuery.comet plugin and set up the following basic code: Client JavaScript <script type="text/javascript"> function updateFeed(data) { $('#time').text(data); } function catchAll(data, type) { console.log(data); console.log(type); } $.comet.connect('/broadcast/sub?channel=getIt'); $.comet.bind(updateFeed, 'feed'); $.comet.bind(catchAll); $('#kill-button').click(function() { $.comet.unbind(updateFeed, 'feed'); }); </script> What I can understand from this is that the client will keep on listening to the url followed by /broadcast/sub=getIt. When there is a message it will fire updateFeed. Pretty basic and understandable IMO. Pretty basic also. This part is not so hard to understand, and is well documented over the internet. Most of the time there is a ruby or a php file behind this that does the broadcasting. My idea is to have node.js broadcasting /broadcast/pub. I think this will let me have persistent streaming data from the server to the client without breaking the connection. I tried the long-polling approach with looping the request but I think this will be more efficient. Or is this not going to work. Node.js file Now to create the Node.js i'm lost. First off all I don't know how to have node.js to work in this way. The setup I used for long polling is as follows: var sys = require('sys'), http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (req, res) { res.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); res.write(new Date()); res.close(); seTimeout('',1000); }).listen(8000); This listens to port 8000 and just writes on the response variable. Does anyone have an idea on how to have Node.js act in a way Comet understands it. Would be really nice and you will help me out a lot.   • XML/XSD intellisense not working in Visual Studio 2010

    I am working on xml and xsd files in VS 2010 but intellisense isn't working. Intellisense is working for the same files in VS 2008, however. When I type '<xs:' options like "attribute", "complexType", "simpleType", or "element" do not appear. Is there some difference between the VS 2008 and VS 2010 that I'm missing? I add an xsd file to my solution. All the proper namespaces are generated automatically as such: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xs:schema id="XMLSchema2" targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" xmlns:mstns="http://tempuri.org/XMLSchema2.xsd" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> </xs:schema> The "xsdschema.xsd" is in the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\xml\Schemas" directory.   • Jboss Seam: Enabling Debug page

    Hi all, I want to enable the debug page. So, I have done the following: I have the jboss-seam and jboss-seam-debug jars as dependency in both my ejb and web maven projects (both are modules of my superproject) I put this context parameter in my web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.debug</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </context-param> Now, when I hit the URL of my application, I get the debug page with this exception (full stacktrace at the end of the post): Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" From posts I read it seems that this is somehow related to two jars of jboss-seam or jboss-seam-debug being in the classpath. I opened my ear file and only one of each is present (in the ear) whereas the war itself has no libraries in the WEB-INF/lib. I have also read of another way to initialize debug page using the components.xml.   • shell_exec escaping quotes in php for Twitter API --> Getting CURL to work with obscure twitter api

    I'm using shell_exec() to execute a Twitter API Call. shell_exec('curl -u user:password -d "id=3191321" http://api.twitter.com/1/twitterapi/twitterlist/members.xml'); That works fine when I authenticate correctly and put in a number for the id. But when I try to put in a variable ($id), it screws up. $addtolist = shell_exec('curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d "id='.$id.'" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml'); I tried flipping the quote types $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d 'id=$id' http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); I tried using double quotes and escaping them $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d \"id=$id\" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); None of them worked. What am I doing wrong? EDIT: The purists say I should be using PHP's built in curl methods, not the shell_exec.     I've been struggling with this "simple" task for more expirienced people, I'm stuck for 2 days now need help. I've changed things arround like zillion times now, finally I stumbled upon this spring JMS tutorial. What I want to do, Send a message and receive it. I've been also reading this book chapter 8 on messaging. It really nicely explains 2 type of messaging and there is nice example for publish-and-subscribe type but now example for point-to-point messaging( this is the one I need). Once you’ve done this, methods on the MessageConsumer enable you to either query the Destination for messages or to register for message notification. Can somebody please direct me towards right direction, is there a tutorial which explains in details how to receive message from the queue?I have the working send message code, didn't post it here because this post is too long as it is.

    Hi, I'm using Spring 3, and trying to set up a simple web-app using annotations to define controller mappings. This seems to be incredibly difficult without peppering all the urls with *.form or *.do Because part of the site needs to be password protected, these urls are all under /secure. There is a <security-constraint> in the web.xml protecting everything under that root. I want to map all the Spring controllers to /secure/app/. Example URLs would be: /secure/app/landingpage /secure/app/edit/customer/{id} each of which I would handle with an appropriate jsp/xml/whatever.   • OCR: How to improve accuracy - existing libraries for removing non-text 'furniture', shapes, etc to

    I want to remove rectangles etc that enclose text in a screenshot image, so that I can perform optical character recognition to get accurate text from the screenshot. Background: I doing this to extract data from a legacy application for use with other applications. This is the only way to get at this data as associated files are in a closed, proprietary, binary format. I will be using AutoItScript to drive the application to show data in its UI, then I will screenshot this and feed this to tesseract. I've already had some success in automating the UI, and have been able to use tesseract to get plain ascii text out of the bitmap. There are several AutoItScripr forum articles discussing its use with tesseract/OCR but not specifically for my question. http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/index.php?s=6c32c3ece12756e635a619cdf175eff9&showforum=2 What I need to do There are thin, 1-pixel wide rectangles that closely enclose some text, when fed to tesseract, it sees them as I for example for a verticle line of the rectangle. Any thoughts on how to remove the rectangles, or best practices? I'm asking if there is a generic command line based toolset to overwrite rectangles, for example, in .png files. I could then pass the .png through this, then pass it to tesseract.     I have discovered a strange bug with my WPF application and I am trying to determine whether it is a problem with WPF or my graphics driver so that I can report it to the appropriate company. I have a Quadro FX 1700 with the latest drivers (197.54) on a Windows XP system, running a .NET 3.5 SP1 application. I have dual monitors, and when I maximize then minimize a child window of the main window on my primary monitor, the child window gets drawn on the secondary monitor as well. It appears in both places. I made a sample application (code is below) which induces this behavior. Start the application and ensure the main window is on your primary monitor. Double-click the main window. A green child window should appear. Click the green child window to maximize. Click the green child window to minimize. Can anyone else reproduce this problem? On my system the green child restores, but then it's drawn on both my primary and secondary monitors, rather than just the primary monitor.   • MySQL Connection Timeout Issue - Grails Application on Tomcat using Hibernate and ORM

    Hi Guys I have a small grails application running on Tomcat in Ubuntu on a VPS. I use MySql as my datastore and everything works fine unless I leave the application for more than half a day (8 hours?). I did some searching and apparently this is the default wait_timeout in mysql.cnf so after 8 hours the connection will die but Tomcat won't know so when the next user tries to view the site they will see the connection failure error. Refreshing the page will fix this but I want to get rid of the error altogether. For my version of MySql (5.0.75) I have only my.cnf and it doesn't contain such a parameter, In any case changing this parameter doesn't solve the problem. This Blog Post seems to be reporting a similar error but I still don't fully understand what I need to configure to get this fixed and also I am hoping that there is a simpler solution than another third party library. The machine I'm running on has 256MB ram and I'm trying to keep the number of programs/services running to a minimum. Is there something I can configure in Grails / Tomcat / MySql to get this to go away?     I'm (lazily) using shell_exec() to execute a Twitter API Call. shell_exec('curl -u user:password -d "id=3191321" http://api.twitter.com/1/twitterapi/twitterlist/members.xml'); That works fine when I authenticate correctly and put in a number for the id. But when I try to put in a variable ($id), it screws up. $addtolist = shell_exec('curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d "id='.$id.'" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml'); I tried flipping the quote types $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d 'id=$id' http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); I tried using double quotes and escaping them $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d \"id=$id\" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); None of them worked. What am I doing wrong?

  • jQuery Cycle plugin pagerAnchorBuilder images becoming undefined

    I have a slideshow built in flash that I want to mimic in jQuery. The slide show uses the images from the slideshow as the pager numbers. The problem im having is once i apply links to the slideshow images the pagerAnchorBuilder image returns an undefined for the src of the image.     I like MVVM. I don't love it, but like it. Most of it makes sense. But, I keep reading articles that encourage you to write a lot of code so that you can write XAML and don't have to write any code in the code-behind. Let me give you an example. Recently I wanted to hookup a command in my ViewModel to a ListView MouseDoubleClickEvent. I wasn't quite sure how to do this. Fortunately, Google has answers for everything. Some of the aforementioned solutions rendered the WPF designer unusable because of a common hack of appending "Internal" after a dependency property; the WPF designer can't find it, but the CLR can. Some of the solutions didn't allow multiple commands to the same control. Some of the solutions didn't allow parameters. After experimenting for a few hours I just decided to do this: private void ListView_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e) { ListView lv = sender as ListView; MyViewModel vm = this.DataContext as MyViewModel; vm.DoSomethingCommand.Execute(lv.SelectedItem); } So, MVVM purists, please tell me what's wrong with this? I can still Unit test my command. This seems very practical, but seems to violate the guideline of "ZOMG... you have code in your code-behind!!!!" Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

    I am using Struts-1. I have developed a struts-based web application. I am using struts tags in my JSP pages supplied in struts-taglib.jar by inserting the following lines in the JSP file: <%@ taglib prefix="html" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-html" %> <%@ taglib prefix="logic" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-logic" %> <%@ taglib prefix="bean" uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-bean" %> Now the application is working fine when I run it on my localsystem but when I deploy it on a server, it shows the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: The absolute uri: http://struts.apache.org/tags-html cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application From the above exception, it seems that the application hasn't found the struts-taglib.jar file. But I have put the struts-taglib.jar in /WEB-INF/lib directory. Then where is the problem?

    I'm trying to make sure old url's aren't broken after the site's URL structure has changed from this: http://www.domain.com/section/entry_name to this: http://www.domain.com/section/event_name/entry_name But to make it a bit more complex, I'm using the segments to sort entries, for example: http://www.domain.com/news/amazing_event/date/asc http://www.domain.com/videos/my_event/title/desc The new structure only effects one particular event (amazing_event) and should leave the other URL's alone. Where do I even begin to tackle this? My current .htaccess looks like: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] Thanks - appreciate any tips.

  • GWT & HTML5 Video in Mobile Safari

    I'm trying to code a site in GWT that plays videos with HTML5. Everything works great on the desktop, but mobile Safari on both the iPhone and iPad do not play the video. I can play a video using Video for Everybody. I've even copied the code to my own plain HTML page, and it works flawlessly. If I serve that same code via a GWT widget, mobile safari will not play the video. On the iPhone I see a gray box with a prohibitory sign around the play button, and on the iPad it shows up as a black box. I've made sure my doctype is <!DOCTYPE html>, but I don't know where else to start debugging. Perhaps it it because the code is injected via javascript? Any pointers on where to start looking would be greatly appreciated. For example: http://somesite.com?passes=dodgy+parameter # BAD http://anothersite.com?passes=a+good+parameter # GOOD My system can make a binary decision about whether or not a URL is good or bad - but ideally I would like it to predict whether or not a previously unseen URL is good or bad. http://some-new-site.com?passes=a+really+dodgy+parameter # BAD I feel the need for a support vector machine (SVM) ... but I need to learn machine learning. Some questions: 1) Is an SVM appropriate for this task? 2) Can I train it with the raw URLs? - without explicitly specifying 'features' 3) How many URLs will I need for it to be good at predictions? 4) What kind of SVM kernel should I use? 5) After I train it, how do I keep it up to date? 6) How do I test unseen URLs again the SVM to decide whether it's good or bad?
