• Rails with DB2 and multiple schemas

  I have a 'legacy' DB2 database that has many other applications and users. Trying to experiment with a rails app. Got everything working great with the ibm_db driver. Problem is that I have some tables like schema1.products, schema1.sales and other tables like schema2.employees and schema2.payroll. In the ibm_db adapter connection, I specify a schema, like schema1 or schema2, and I can work within that one schema, but I need to be able to easily (and transparently) reference both schemas basically interchangeably. I don't want to break the other apps, and the SQL I would normally write against DB2 doesn't have any of these restrictions (schemas can be mixed in SQL against DB2 without any trouble at all). I would like to just specify table names as "schema1.products" for example and be done with it, but that doesn't seem to jive with the "rails way" of going about it. Suggestions?

  I'm trying to create a base repository for use with Entity Framework 4.0 and having some trouble. In this code below, why is it not possible to do this in one line? public IEnumerable<T> GetAll<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> filter) { IEnumerable<T> allCustomers = this.GetAll<T>(); IEnumerable<T> result = allCustomers.Where(filter.Compile()); return result; } Won't this result in 2 SQL statements: one without a where clause that retrieves all rows, and one with a where clause that only retrieves the rows that match the predicate? How can this be done with a single SQL statement? I can't get it to compile if I try to cast the filter.Compile() to Func<Customer, bool>. Thanks, Andy

• Understanding Plesk Watchdog statistics

  We have Plesk 8.3 installed. I've started using their Watchdog module to track server useage. Our server routinely has trouble with the amount of traffic we have and I think our MySQL queries need to be smarter. Anyway, looking at the stats from Watchdog, it seems like MySQL usage is low compared to so something else making up the "overall" usage. See this: I was hoping someone with a lot of Plesk exeprience could help me understand what I'm seeing here. Can I not trust Watchdog's reports or am I missing something?

I can use MS Access to design 2 queries, create the joins the fruit/country names table with the Sweetness table perform crosstab query However I'm having trouble doing this in a single query. I've attempted nesting the 1st query's SQL into the 2nd, but it doesn't seem to work. Unfortunately, my solution needs to be be wholly SQL, as it is an embedded SQL query (cannot rely on query designer in MS Access, etc.). Any help greatly appreciated. Prembo.

• Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question. • Is it possible to pickle python "units" units?

  I'm using the Python "units" package (http://pypi.python.org/pypi/units/) and I've run into some trouble when trying to pickle them. I've tried to boil it down to the simplest possible to case to try and figure out what's going on. What am I missing? This is using v0.04 of the units package, and Google App Engine 1.4 SDK 1

• boolean type for while loop in bash?

  I have a cron script on a shared web host that occasionally gets killed. I'd like to make a loop in bash that tries again if it gets killed, because most of the time it will make it. I'm having trouble with the syntax for storing a boolean value :P #!/bin/bash VAR=0; while [ $VAR ]; do if nice -19 mysqldump -uuser -ppassword -h database.hostname.com --skip-opt --all --complete-insert --add-drop-table database_name > ~/file/system/path/filename.sql; then VAR=1; fi done So the script recovers from a killed process okay, but once it's run properly, the new VAR value doesn't kill the while loop. What am I doing wrong?

• Weird compatibility problem with .Net 3.5 and 4.0 assemblies (NATUPnPLib)

  I'm having trouble getting NATUPnP 1.0 Type Library to work with Framework 3.5 in Visual Studio 2010. If I use .Net 4.0, it works just fine, but with .Net 3.5, NATUPNPLib's namespace looks excactly like NETCONLib's. For example this Port Forwarding Management Application sample from this site: http://pietschsoft.com/post/2009/02/05/NET-Framework-Communicate-through-NAT-Router-via-UPnP.aspx ..is using .Net 3.5, but I can't get it to compile in Visual Studio 2010 unless I change it to .Net 4.0. I haven't tried, but I bet in Visual Studio 2008 there would be no problems.

• How to debug Fluent nHibernate

  Hi, I'm having some trouble with Fluent nHibernate. I added a column to a table and I thought I'd correctly changed the mappings and the connected data objects to correctly reflect this. However when I tried to run my application again I kept getting this error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid column name 'Workflow_id'. I really couldn't see what the problem was with the changes I'd made so I reverted back to the original versions of the mapping and data object files from source control and removed the offending column from the database. But I'm still getting the same error. I'd like some advice on how to debug this. The SQL that gets reported on the error is semi-nonsensical: SELECT regions0_.Page_id as Page5_1_, regions0_.Id as Id1_, regions0_.Id as Id27_0_, regions0_.RegionId as RegionId27_0_, regions0_.RegionTemplate_id as RegionTe3_27_0_, regions0_.Workflow_id as Workflow4_27_0_ FROM [Region] regions0_ WHERE regions0_.Page_id=? And it won't execute as valid SQL anyway. Any ideas as to where to go from here?

  Hello, I have trouble using sed. I need to replace some lines in very deprecated HTML sites which consist of many files. My script does not work and I do not why. When I tried to find exact pattern with Netbeas it worked. find . -type f -name "*.htm?" -exec sed -i -r 's/ing\. Šuhajda Dušan\, Mírová 767\, 518 01 Dobruška\, \+420 737 980 333\,/REPLACEMENT/g' {} \; Where is the mistake? Is there an alternative to replace text without searching regular expression but plain text? Thanks for any respond.

• Java Program Design Layout Recommendations?

  I've learned enough to begin writing programs from scratch, but I'm running into the problem of not knowing how to design the layout and implementation of a program. To be more precise, I'm having difficulty finding a good way to come up with an action plan before I dive in to the programming part. I really want to know what classes, methods, and objects I would need beforehand instead of just adding them along the way. My intuition is leading me to using some kind of charting software that gives a hierarchal view of all the classes and methods. I've been using OmniGraffle Pro and while it does seem to work somewhat, I'm still having trouble planning out the program in its entirety. How should I approach this problem? What softwares out there are available to help with this problem? Any good reads out there on this issue? Thanks so much! Edit: Oh yeah, I'm using Eclipse and I code mainly in Java right now.

  Hey, i'm trying to get a project to work, but i am having trouble with the rewrite module. I'm running Wamp over Windows XP. I changed httpd.conf to change the root of localhost to: DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/project/docroot/" I have htaccess RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / my Apache has the rewrite module Activated. my base_url() in config.php is 'http://localhost/' in routes.php i have: $route['default_controller'] = "home"; $route['our-recipes'] = "recipes"; and more pairs when i point the browser to http://localhost/ i get the homepage of my site, but when i click on any internal link like to 'our-recipes' it loads but i get the same homepage, with the new url on the location bar. if i try to access 'http://localhost/recipes' i get the same result. this is my folder structure: Can anyone please solve this for me??

• Designing a recipe database that needs to include ingredients as well as sub-recipes

  I am designing a recipe database that needs to be very flexible as it is going to be communicating directly with our back-of-house inventory system. This is what I have so far in regards to the tables: Recipe: this table will contain the recipe date: the name, steps needed to cook, etc. Ingredients/Inventory: this is our back of house inventory, so this will have the information about each product that will be used in our recipes. Recipe Line Item: This is the tricky table, I want to be able link to the ingredients here as well as the quantity needed for the recipe, but I also need to be able to directly include recipes from the recipe table (such as marinara sauce that we make in-house), and that is why I am having trouble figuring out the best way to design this table. Basically, the recipe line item table needs to be able to link to either the ingredients table or the recipe table depending on which line item is needed and I want to know what would be the most effective way to handle that. Also what other things developer should know having experience of 2 years or more. I am in double mind as i have over two years of exp. in ruby and i am learning new thing everyday in ruby only. if someone ask me to rate yourself i can't give more than 5 out of 10 in ROR only. • reloadData not working - suspect cell's reuseIdentifier

  I have a view controller that gets presented modally and changes some data that effects the data in a uitableview in the modal's parent view controller (a table view). I call the tableview's reloadData method when the parent view reappears. I have confirmed that this code gets hit with a break point. My trouble is, reloadData isn't working. Here's the kicker - if I don't use reuseIdentifiers in the - (UITableViewCell *)cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath method, the data reloads correctly. It looks like the reuseIdentifier is to blame. I really want to continue to use the reuseIdentifier for my cells - how do I make this work?

An example: Typical (alpha?) sort: 1.1.32.22 11.2.4 2.1.3.4 2.11.23.1.2 2.3.7 3.12.3.5 Correct (numerical) sort: 1.1.32.22 2.1.3.4 2.3.7 2.11.23.1.2 3.12.3.5 11.2.4 I'm having trouble figuring out how to setup the algorithm to do such a sort with n number of decimal delimiters and m number of integer fields. I think this is strange since calling ggplot directly produces the right plot: i <- 2 ggplot(diamonds, aes(x=diamonds[,i]))+geom_bar()+xlab(names(diamonds)[i]) I don't really know how to describe this as a fitting title - suggestions as to a more descriptive question-title is most welcome.   Here is the pseudo-code for my inline query in my code: select columnOne from myTable where columnOne = '#variableOne#' if len(variableTwo) gt 0 and columnTwo = '#variableTwo#' end I would like to move this into a stored procedure but am having trouble building the query correctly. I assume it would be something like select columnOne from myTable where columnOne = @variableOne CASE WHEN len(@variableTwo) <> 0 THEN and columnTwo = @variableTwo END This is giving me a syntax error. Could someone tell me what I've got wrong. Also, I would like to keep it to only one query and not just have one if statement. Also, I do not want to build the sql in the stored procedure and run Exec() on it.

• Antialiased fonts in emacs 23.2 on Windows

  I'm having trouble getting antialiased fonts to work correct in emacs 23.2, to the extent that it appears that it doesn't actually support antialised fonts. If I do the following in emacs 23.1: (set-face-font 'default "DejaVu Sans Mono-9.0:antialias=subpixel") (describe-font nil) Then this reports the full name as "DejaVu Sans Mono-9.0:antialias=subpixel", and the font looks nice and smooth. However, doing the same thing in emacs 23.2 gives the full name as "DejaVu Sans Mono-9.0" and the font looks nasty and chunky. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
