• .NET Framework 4 RC on Windows server 2008 R2

  I've just installed .NET 4 on Windows SErver 2008 R2 x64 and I am getting 500 Internal Server Error with an ASP.NET MVC application which was previously running fine on 3.5. The application was upgraded from targeting 3.5 to target 4 and I personally built it today on my development machine (changed in VS - Properties to .NET Framework 4). On the server I installed .NET Framework 4 Client profile RC for x86 and x64 platforms and I created a new .NET 4 application pool in IIS and placed the web app in it. Also I have custom errors turned Off in web.config but even so no detailed error is displayed - just the plain IIS 7.5 500 Internal Server Error. Any suggestions?

• How can I send parameters to a sub-index page?

  Hello. I have a homepage, for example: www.example.com. There is a url like this: www.example.com/subdirectory/page.php?var1=A&var2=B It's a long url, so I changed it like this: www.example.com/subdirectory/page/A/B as well as I config the .htaccess file: <Files page> ForceType application/x-httpd-php </Files> However, I assume it's also quite long. If the "page.php" change to "index.php", the "page" seems to disappear, just like this: www.example.com/subdirectory/A/B But I don't know how to achieve. Is omitted 'page' possible? How can I just do it? Thanks for your help.

• Magento Installation stuck at configuration

  Hi Everyone, I am not sure what is going wrong when I am trying to install magento to my local ubuntu machine. I did all the steps mentionsed in the magento wiki. Everything goes well until I reach the point where I am here which is the magento config page. When I try and continue after entering the necessary details like host, database name and user name and submit it comes back to the same page. I checked for everything like db in my phomyadmin panel and it still gets stuck there. What is the possible reason for that. Thanks

  Hi everyone... i have a webservice that i want to test by typing the url in the address bar in the web browser localhost:1981/myProject/admin/autocomplete.asmx and when i do this it gives this compilation error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Oledb' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' (are you missing an assembly reference?) i know this is because we added this in our web.config <add namespace="System.Data.Oledb"/> <add namespace ="System.Data"/> in the namespaces section..... when i call this web service through ajax it works but if i try to test it it gives this error. Is there any way to prevent this?

  I have created an ASP.NET application which creates threads in an infinite loop. I set maxWorkerThreads to 20 in processModel in machine.config. When I checked the Thread count in perfmon there was around 7000 threads created in worker process. • Correct way to (re)launch a Java application with hardware-dependent VM parameters?

  EDIT I don't want to use Java Web Start I've got a Java application that I'd like to run with different VM parameters depending on the amount of memory the system it is launched on has. For example if the machine has 1 GB of memory or less I'd like to pass "-Xmx200m" and "-Xmx400m" if it has 2 GB and "-Xmx800m" if it has 8 GB (these are just examples). Is there a portable way to do this? I've tried having a first tiny Java app (hence portable) that determines the amount of memory available and then launches a new Java app but I don't think this is very clean. As of now I've written Bash shell scripts that invoke the Java app with the correct parameters depending on the config but it only works on Linux on OS X. What is the correct way to solve this? Would application packager package ;) help ?

• Tomcat not showing Spring Context initialization errors when running from Eclipse WTP

  Hi all, Im working with Eclipse Galileo (WTP), Spring 2.5.6-SEC01 and Apache Tomcat 5.5.28. When I run my application from Eclipse, I'm able to see Tomcat standard output and error from the console view. When there is a Spring initialization error (ex: malformed spring XML) I'm not able to see the error message or the stacktrace at the Console view. Anyone found before a problem like this? how you solve it? Thanks in advance, I'm getting mad :-) Edited: I'm seeing all Tomcat startup messages and my System.out.println and System.err.println messages in Eclipse Console. • ClickOnce: How do I pass a querystring value to my app *through the installer*?

  My company currently builds separate MSI's for all of our clients, even though the app is 100% the same across the board (with a single exception, an ID in the app.config). I would like to show them that we can publish in once place with ClickOnce, and simply add a query string parameter for each client's installer. Example: http://mysite.com/setup.exe?ID=1234-56-7890 The issue that I'm having is that the above ("ID=1234...") is not being passed along to the "myapplication.application". What is happening instead is, the app is being installed successfully, and it is running the first time with an activation context, but the "ActivationUri" does not contain any query string values. Is there a way to pass query string values FROM THE INSTALLER URL to the application's launch URL? If so, how?

  Hello everyone, In my previous understanding, for a web site, only login user of a web site (no matter what login/authentication approach is used) could have cookie as persistent identifier, so that if the user close the browser, open browser again to go to the same web site, the web site could remember the user. But I learned recently that it seems for non-login user, there could still be a cookie associated with the user (after the user close browser, and then open the browser again to go to the same web site, the web site could remember the user), and it is called browser cookie? Is that true? If it is true, who is responsible to set the browser cookie? i.e. need some coding/config at web server side, client browser configuration (without coding from server side), or both? How could web server access such cookie? Appreciate if any code samples. thanks in advance, George

• How to deploy RESTful Web Service onto IIS

  Hi all, I'm new to .Net and IIS. I've created a simple RESTful Web Service in VS2008 and .net 3.5 framework using WCF. I've tested it well with F5 debugging in VS(seems it is auto deployed on Windows Service). Now I want to deploy it on my IIS server so that I can use it remotely. But I cannot find any guide for this. I manually deployed my service folder just as an ASP.net site. But seems it does not work(keep showing 401 error). Can anyone tell me how to deploy it to IIS? It contains a simple GET method and I hope it can be accessed by anomynous clients (because the host IP is 192.168..). I have a web.config file, a .dll and .pdb under /bin folder, a Global.asax and .svc file for my service. The IIS server is on the same machine. Thanks a million.

• Trouble using genericra to integrate activemq and glassfish when using failover protocol

  Hi, I'm attempting to use activemq in glassfish using the genericra resource adapter provided with glassfish 2.1. I have found a few pages with helpful information including http://activemq.apache.org/sjsas-with-genericjmsra.html. I have actually had success and been able to get MDBs to use activemq as their JMS provider, but I'm running into an issue as I'm trying to do some more complicated configuration. I want to set up a master-slave configuration, which would require my clients to use a brokerURL of failover:(tcp://broker1:61616,tcp://broker2:61616). In order to do this, I set the following property when calling asadmin create-resource-adapter-config (I have to escape '=' and ':'): ConnectionFactoryProperties=brokerURL\=failover\:(tcp\://127.0.0.1\:61616,tcp://127.0.0.1\:61617) However, I am now getting a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException when my application starts up. I suspect the comma in between the two URLs is the culprit, since this works fine: brokerURL\=failover\:(tcp\://127.0.0.1\:61616) Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this issue before. Also wondering if there is a better way to integrate with glassfish than using the generic resource adapter.

You know, ASCII files that gets turned into 1s and 0s. How does one apply the same discipline and wisdom to working in environments that are point-and-click, config-centric. I'm thinking of CMSs and specifically, my current 9 to 5, SharePoint. Traditional practices of source control, dev-staging-production seem to break down since we're not working with code, and the live environment changes with user input. So to sum up a rather lengthy question, what works in a no-code environment?

• Wireless barcode scanner

  Hi All, I have 2 wireless barcode scanners. I have created an application in C# which reads a barcode and sends data to a web service which then manipulates the data and do further processing. When I start aplication, it first tries to connect to web service and will proceed further only if connection succeded. The problem I am facing is, if I deploy the application through visual studio then it works fine and connects to web service. But if I just copy the contents (exe and config files) manually, then it gives error that unknown host name. Can someone please help me to understand how this connection works? Does it needs some special settings in scanner device which visual studio does automatically while deployment? Thanks and Cheers.

  Hi, In a C#/ASP.NET project, we're using an ajax modalpopupextender to display a "Processing..." message to the users. We're displaying it using a Javascript call in the code of the ASP.NET page. Then, in the code behind, we're doing some database operation, and hide again the popup using "popup.hide();" The problem is that when an exception occurs in the code behind, the popup is still displayed and the application does not handle errors as per the "customErrors" tag of the web.config.   I'm interested in setting up a TDD environment for developing Vim scripts and rc files. As a simple example, say I want to have vim insert 8 spaces when I press the tab key. I would set up a script that did the following: Launch vim using a sandboxed .vimrc file press i press tab press esc press :w test_out assert that test_out contains ' ' by the default config in vim, this would fail. However, once I add set expandtab to my .vimrc file, the test will pass. So the question is, how do I programmatically issue these commands? 'vim -c ' is close, but seems to only work for ex mode commands. Any suggestions? This question seem to be thoroughly google-proof.

• How can I build against Microsoft.Web.Administration (IIS 7.x) on a Windows 2003 build machine?

  Hi, I am writing a C# config app for (amongst other things) setting up websites. It's only required to support IIS 7.x (Windows 2008 / 2008 R2), and requiring the compatibility pack is a no-no, so I figured I'd just use the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace. However, the only place I can find the assembly that contains this namespace (Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll) is from the IIS 7.x installation folder, and our main build machines are Windows 2003 and so cannot install IIS 7.x. One option is to mandate a 2008 build machine but we currently only have one so that's not ideal. We've already ruled out appcmd.exe. The other option is to make a package consisting of the dlls necessary to build against Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. Has anyone tried that? Is there such a package already in existence, hidden somewhere on the MS download site? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, running Sinatra 1.0, I wanted to add a database table to my program. ENV["VERSION"].to_i : nil ) end My console pukes out an error when the call to ActiveRecord::MIgrator.migrate() is made. rake aborted! undefined method `info' for nil:NilClass The migration code itself is pretty simple... and presents me with no clues as to what this missing info class is. class CreateStores < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :stores do |t| t.string :name t.string :access_url t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :stores end end I am a little mystified here and am looking for some clues as to what might be wrong. • How should I move my code from dev to production?

  I have created a PHP web-application. I have 3 environments: DEV, TEST, PROD. What's a good tool / business practice for me to move my PHP web-application code from DEV to TEST to the PROD environment? Realizing that my TEST environment still only connects to my TEST database; whereas, I need to PROD environment to connect to my PROD database. So the code is mostly the same, except that I need to change my TEST code once moved into PROD to connect to the PROD database and not TEST database. I've heard of people taking down Apache in such away that it doesn't allow new connections and once all the existing connections are idle it simply brings down the web server. Then people manually copy the code and then manually update the config files of the PHP application to also point to the PROD instance. That seems terribly dangerous. Does a best practice exists?

I've googled the best I could, nothing came up better to consume a webservice from a Java client through a web proxy, if someone has another idea, feel free to respond
