• Error in R for missing object

  I have several nested functions, some of which as called in lapply clauses. In the process, sometimes I don't set a default for a parameter and instead check if it was supplied using the missing function. I'm getting a strange error right now when I'm not passing a value for a parameter, it has no default, yet missing resolves to FALSE. And when I try to use or check the parameter in any other way (using length, exists, etc.), I get an error: Error in try(length(x)) : argument "data" is missing, with no default Has anyone experienced this failure of the missing function before?

• getView only shows Flagged Backgrounds for drawn Views, It does not show Flagged Background when scroll to view more items on list

  I am trying to create a listview that receives a flagged list of items to indicate a status to the user. I have been able to create the flag display by using a yellow background (see image at bottom). In Theory, the flagged list can have many flagged items in it. However in my app, only the first three flagged backgrounds are shown. I believe this is because they are initially drawn to the screen. The Flagged background that are not drawn initially to the screen do not show. I'd like to know how to get the remaining flags to show in the list. ListView Recycling: The backgrounds in the listView are being recycled in getView(). This recycling goes from position 0 to position 9. I have flags that need to match at positions 13, 14 and so on. Those positions are not being displayed. listView.getCheckedItemPositions() for multiple selections: This method will not work in my case because the user will not selected the flags. The flags are coming from the server. setNotifyOnChange() and/or public virtual void SetNotifyOnChange (bool notifyOnChange): I'm not adding new data to the list, so I don't see how this method would work for my program. Does this method communicate to getview when it is recycling data? I was unable to find an answer to this in my research. public void registerDataSetObserver: This may be overkill for my problem, but is it possible to have an observer object that keeps track of the all the positions in my items list and in my flag list no matter if the view is recycled and match them on the screen? • C# StringBuilder related question

  Hello, I have written a program for a stack. For this i needed a StringBuilder to be able to show me what was in the stack else i would get the class name instead of the actual values inside. My question is there any other way except for a StringBuilder for such kind of problem? Also in what other kind of cases does this kind of problem happen? • cannot access new drive through nfs

  I am running nfs-kernel-server to access my files on my linux machine(ubuntu - /share). The disk I have been using is full. So I have added a new disk and mounted it to /share/data. My other pc mounts the /share folder to /mnt/nfs; but cannot see the contents of /mnt/nfs/data. I have tried adding /share/data to /etc/exports, but it did not help. What do I do?

  Hi. A "quicky": how can I get the size (width) of a NSString? I'm trying to see if the string width of a string to see if it is bigger than a given width of screen, case in which I have to "crop" it and append it with "...", getting the usual behavior of a UILabel. string.length won't do the trick since AAAAAAAA and iiiiii have the same length but different sizes (for example). I'm kind of stuck. Thanks a lot.

• OpenCV to use in memory buffers or file pointers

  The two functions in openCV cvLoadImage and cvSaveImage accept file path's as arguments. For example, when saving a image it's cvSaveImage("/tmp/output.jpg", dstIpl) and it writes on the disk. Is there any way to feed this a buffer already in memory? So instead of a disk write, the output image will be in memory. I would also like to know this for both cvSaveImage and cvLoadImage (read and write to memory buffers). Thanks! My goal is to store the Encoded (jpeg) version of the file in Memory. Same goes to cvLoadImage, I want to load a jpeg that's in memory in to the IplImage format.

• Parsing language for both binary and character files

  The problem: You have some data and your program needs specified input. For example strings which are numbers. You are searching for a way to transform the original data in a format you need. And the problem is: The source can be anything. It can be XML, property lists, binary which contains the needed data deeply embedded in binary junk. And your output format may vary also: It can be number strings, float, doubles.... You don't want to program. You want routines which gives you commands capable to transform the data in a form you wish. Surely it contains regular expressions, but it is very good designed and it offers capabilities which are sometimes much more easier and more powerful. Something like a super-grep which you can access (!) as program routines, not only as tool. It allows: joining/grouping/merging of results inserting/deleting/finding/replacing write macros which allows to execute a command chain repeatedly meta-grouping (lists-tables-hypertables) Example (No, I am not looking for a solution to this, it is just an example): You want to read xml strings embedded in a binary file with variable length records. Your tool reads the record length and deletes the junk surrounding your text. Now it splits open the xml and extracts the strings. Being Indian number glyphs and containing decimal commas instead of decimal points, your tool transforms it into ASCII and replaces commas with points. Now the results must be stored into matrices of variable length....etc. etc. I am searching for a good language / language-design and if possible, an implementation. Which design do you like or even, if it does not fulfill the conditions, wouldn't you want to miss ? EDIT: The question is if a solution for the problem exists and if yes, which implementations are available. You DO NOT implement your own sorting algorithm if Quicksort, Mergesort and Heapsort is available. You DO NOT invent your own text parsing method if you have regular expressions. You DO NOT invent your own 3D language for graphics if OpenGL/Direct3D is available. There are existing solutions or at least papers describing the problem and giving suggestions. And there are people who may have worked and experienced such problems and who can give ideas and suggestions. The idea that this problem is totally new and I should work out and implement it myself without background knowledge seems for me, I must admit, totally off the mark.

• How to scale MongoDB

  I know that MongoDB can scale vertically. What about if I running out of disk? I am currently using EC2 with EBS. As you know, I have to assign EBS for a fixed size. What if the mongodb growth bigger than the EBS size? Do I have to create a larger EBS and Copy & Paste the files? Or shall we start more MongoDB instance and each connect to different EBS disk? In such case, I could connect to a different instance for different databases.

  Ok, I understand perl hash slices, and the "x" operator in Perl, but can someone explain the following code example from here (slightly simplified)? sub test{ my %hash; @hash{@_} = (undef) x @_; } Example Call to sub: test('one', 'two', 'three'); This line is what throws me: @hash{@_} = (undef) x @_; It is creating a hash where the keys are the parameters to the sub and initializing to undef, so: %hash: 'one' = undef, 'two' = undef, 'three' = undef The rvalue of the x operator should be a number; how is it that @_ is interpreted as the length of the sub's parameter array? I would expect you'd at least have to do this: @hash{@_} = (undef) x length(@_);

I know how to set it, but I'd prefer to calculate the proper width because its contents changes.   I'm hoping someone here can answer these definitively: Does putting a VHD file in an NTFS-compressed folder on the host improve performance of the virtual machine, diminish performance, or neither? What about using NTFS compression within the guest? Does using compresssion on either the host or the guest lead to any problems like read or write errors? If I were to put a VHD in a compressed folder on the host, would I benefit from compacting it? I've seen references to using NTFS compression on quite a few VPC "tips and tricks" blog posts, and it seems like half of them say to never do it and the other half say that not only does it save disk space but it actually can improve performance if you have a fast CPU and your primary performance bottleneck is the disk.

• Java object caching, which is faster, reading from a file or from a remote machine?

  I am at a point where I need to take the decision on what to do when caching of objects reaches the configured threshold. Should I store the objects in a indexed file (like provided by JCS) and read them from the file (file IO) when required or have the object stored in a distributed cache (network, serialization, deserialization) We are using Solaris as OS. ============================ Adding some more information. I have this question so as to determine if I can switch to distributed caching. The remote server which will have cache will have more memory and better disk and this remote server will only be used for caching. One of the problems we cannot increase the locally cached objects is , it stores the cached objects in JVM heap which has limited memory(using 32bit JVM). ======================================================================== Thanks, we finally ended up choosing Coherence as our Cache product. This provides many cache configuration topologies, in process vs remote vs disk ..etc.

• Postfix / Dovecot and Email Retrieval

  I have setup Postfix and Dovecot on an Ubuntu box following the instructions http://www.exratione.com/2012/05/a-mailserver-on-ubuntu-1204-postfix-dovecot-mysql/ I can see that email is being delivered to and accepted by the server, but the email is not available for retrieval via POP3. What could be missing in my configuraton? It seems that email is not being properly handed off to Dovecot. • Mapping Hilbert values to 3D points

  I have a set of Hilbert values (length from the start of the Hilbert curve to the given point). What is the best way to convert these values to 3D points? Original Hilbert curve was not in 3D, so I guess I have to pick by myself the Hilbert curve rank I need. I do have total curve length though (that is, the maximum value in the set). Perhaps there is an existing implementation? Some library that would allow me to work with Hilbert curve / values? Language does not matter much.

  I have a form with 20 input fields. Each input field is inside a DIV I have a script that changes the background color of the DIV via keyup function along with two other DIV tags. • How to remove not required Elements from generated XML via jaxb

  I want to know if there is anyway for removing not required elements from generated xml using jaxb.I have my xsd element definition as follows. <xsd:element name="Title" maxOccurs="1" minOccurs="0"> <xsd:annotation> <xsd:documentation> A name given to the digital record. </xsd:documentation> </xsd:annotation> <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:minLength value="1"></xsd:minLength> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> </xsd:element> As you can see it is not a mandatory element because minOccurs="0" But if it is not empty the length should be 1. <xsd:minLength value="1"></xsd:minLength> At the time of marshalling if I left the Title field blank it is throwing the SAXException because of min-length restriction. So what I want to do is to remove the whole occurrence of <Title/> from generated XML.Right now i have removed the min-length restriction so it is adding the <Title> element as EMPTY <Title></Title> But I do not want it like this.Any help is appreciated.I am using jaxb 2.0 for Marshalling.
