  I want to have a function which gets a text as the input and gives back the text with URLs made to HTML links as the output. My draft is as follows: function autoLink($text) { return preg_replace('/https?:\/\/[\S]+/i', '<a href="\0">\0</a>', $text); } But this doesn't work properly. For the input text which contains ... http://www.google.de/ ... I get the following output: <a href="http://www.google.de/<br">http://www.google.de/<br</a> /> Why does it include the line breaks? How could I limit it to the real URL? Thanks in advance!

• PHP Possible Memory Leak

  I have a script that loops through a database for images to convert with gd & imagick. I unset or replace all variables and objects in between each loop. For each loop, get_memory_usage(1) reveals a concurrent amount of memory used by that script. Which is expected. But, when I run "top", the %MEM column reports that this script, (same PID), increments with several percentages for each loop. I destroy all images when I'm done with them, and when I run get_defined_vars(); only the standard globals and a few variables I have is set. Why is "top" % Memory Usage different than what PHP reports? After 10 loops, PHP has taken 20% percetage of the system memory. I run php 5.2.6 on Debian 5

  I'm trying to understand how my php script can pass an array to my javascript code. Using the following php, I pass an array: $c = array(3,2,7); echo json_encode($c); My javascript is as follows: $.post("getLatLong.php", { latitude: 500000}, function(data){ arrayData = data document.write(arrayData) document.write(arrayData[0]); document.write(arrayData[0]); document.write(arrayData[0]); }); </script> What is printed out on screen is [3,2,7][3, I'm trying to understand how json_encode works - I though I would be able to pass the array to a variable, and then access it like a normal javascript array, but it views my array as one large text string. How do ensure that it reads it like an array?

• Quick way to do data lookup in PHP

  I have a data table with 600,000 records that is around 25 megabytes large. It is indexed by a 4 byte key. Is there a way to find a row in such dataset quickly with PHP without resorting to MySQL? The website in question is mostly static with minor PHP code and no database dependencies and therefore fast. I would like to add this data without having to use MySQL if possible. In C++ I would memory map the file and do a binary search in it. Is there a way to do something similar in PHP?

Are there any scripts or IDE wizards which can assist a programmer to create php forms quickly and also give the programmer flexibility to customize the form easily? I found some webservices which provide such services but they are mostly oriented towards non-programmers and the forms they generate are not easily customizable and do not support all kinds of functionalities.   While working on an existing Drupal site I've noticed a strange glitch that causes any PHP operator with in it to act like a ? tag. This is happening in in Drupal pages that I create that have a 'Input Format' of 'PHP code'.   I want to do the validation on my PHP side and then have my JQuery code display your changes have been saved when the submit button is clicked but the JQuery code states that the changes have been saved even when the validation fails. How can i fix this so that PHP can do the validation and then JQuery can do its thing when PHP has finished its validation? • PHP require/include only works once in script then fails

  Hi everybody, this isn't a problem as such but it's bugging me and I would appreciate any help. It might be totally obvious but I can't see it. $root_path = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] require($root_path .'template/header.php') require($root_path .'template/footer.php') The script will include one or the other but not both. It will run and include the header but not the footer, if I swap them round it will load the footer first but not the header. I've tried using include instead of require but get the same result. It gives the error allow_url_include = 0. I know turning this on will solve it but my question is why is it happening? Why will it include one file but not the other? Is there any way to get them to both run without turning allow_url_include on (I'm trying to be security conscious). I have PHP 5.3 and am running WAMP. Thanks in advance for your help!

  PHP will automatically convert <input type="text" name="foo[0]" value="x" /> <input type="text" name="foo[1]" value="y" /> into $_POST['foo'] = array( 0 => 'x', 1 => 'y' ); Which is what you want most of the time. However, in this case I would like this not to happen. Is there anyway to tell PHP to not do this? I realize I could parse php://input myself, but I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it. I also don't have the option of renaming the input names.

The problematic part is the fact that the .jar-file doesnt finish executing because its a server-application. Thus navigating to the php-file wont help and I didnt manage to make AJAX work either. (checker.php echo out how many points you've got in a span class vispoints1). Now isnt there a smarter method doing this, instead of sending requests like this all the time.. I mean sites like facebook and that, they dont do like this to check if you e.g got a new friend request? Hope you can help me find a better method examples would be good too.

  Our website was just converted to being generated by mod_rewrite and php scripts. Images aren't caching in browsers when they seemingly should be. All images follow format: <img src="/images/header.png" /> I must avoid the script completely caching because the PHP parser needs to handle each page dynamically on each request; however, the download overhead of the large images is cumbersome on every single page load. I would ideally provide headers for "Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate" and "Expires: some_date_in_the_past" to force revalidation of the PHP script. Why isn't the browser caching static images with consistent href values across all pages?
