  • Interrupt an Http Request blocked in read() on Android

    - by twk
Using the Apache Http stack on Android, I'm trying to force a thread out of a call to read. This is what the stack looks like: OSNetworkSystem.receiveStreamImpl(FileDescriptor, byte[], int, int, int) line: not available [native method] OSNetworkSystem.receiveStream(FileDescriptor, byte[], int, int, int) line: 478 PlainSocketImpl.read(byte[], int, int) line: 565 SocketInputStream.read(byte[], int, int) line: 87 SocketInputBuffer(AbstractSessionInputBuffer).fillBuffer() line: 103 SocketInputBuffer(AbstractSessionInputBuffer).read(byte[], int, int) line: 134 IdentityInputStream.read(byte[], int, int) line: 86 EofSensorInputStream.read(byte[], int, int) line: 159 Fetcher.readStream() line: 89 I've tried InputStream.close(), Thread.Interrupt(), and HttpUriRequest.abort(), without any success. Any ideas? I'm also open to some kind of non-blocking IO, but I don't see any way to do that with the HttpUriRequest object. Thanks!

  • Exception - Illegal Block size during decryption(Android)

    - by Vamsi
I am writing an application which encrypts and decrypts the user notes based on the user set password. i used the following algorithms for encryption/decryption 1. PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES-CBC-BC 2. PBEWithMD5And128BitAES-CBC-OpenSSL e_Cipher = Cipher.getInstance(PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES-CBC-BC); d_Cipher = Cipher.getInstance(PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES-CBC-BC); e_Cipher.init() d_Cipher.init() encryption is working well, but when trying to decrypt it gives Exception - Illegal Block size after encryption i am converting the cipherText to HEX and storing it in a sqlite database. i am retrieving correct values from the sqlite database during decyption but when calling d_Cipher.dofinal() it throws the Exception. I thought i missed to specify the padding and tried to check what are the other available cipher algorithms but i was unable to found. so request you to please give the some knowledge on what are the cipher algorithms and padding that are supported by Android? if the algorithm which i used can be used for padding, how should i specify the padding mechanism? I am pretty new to Encryption so tried a couple of algorithms which are available in BouncyCastle.java but unsuccessful. As requested here is the code public class CryptoHelper { private static final String TAG = "CryptoHelper"; //private static final String PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES = "PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES-CBC-BC"; //private static final String PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES = "PBEWithMD5And128BitAES-CBC-OpenSSL"; private static final String PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES = "PBEWithMD5And128BitAES-CBC-OpenSSLPBEWITHSHA1AND3-KEYTRIPLEDES-CB"; private static final String randomAlgorithm = "SHA1PRNG"; public static final int SALT_LENGTH = 8; public static final int SALT_GEN_ITER_COUNT = 20; private final static String HEX = "0123456789ABCDEF"; private Cipher e_Cipher; private Cipher d_Cipher; private SecretKey secretKey; private byte salt[]; public CryptoHelper(String password) throws InvalidKeyException, NoSuchAlgorithmException, NoSuchPaddingException, InvalidAlgorithmParameterException, InvalidKeySpecException { char[] cPassword = password.toCharArray(); PBEKeySpec pbeKeySpec = new PBEKeySpec(cPassword); PBEParameterSpec pbeParamSpec = new PBEParameterSpec(salt, SALT_GEN_ITER_COUNT); SecretKeyFactory keyFac = SecretKeyFactory.getInstance(PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES); secretKey = keyFac.generateSecret(pbeKeySpec); SecureRandom saltGen = SecureRandom.getInstance(randomAlgorithm); this.salt = new byte[SALT_LENGTH]; saltGen.nextBytes(this.salt); e_Cipher = Cipher.getInstance(PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES); d_Cipher = Cipher.getInstance(PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES); e_Cipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, secretKey, pbeParamSpec); d_Cipher.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, secretKey, pbeParamSpec); } public String encrypt(String cleartext) throws IllegalBlockSizeException, BadPaddingException { byte[] encrypted = e_Cipher.doFinal(cleartext.getBytes()); return convertByteArrayToHex(encrypted); } public String decrypt(String cipherString) throws IllegalBlockSizeException { byte[] plainText = decrypt(convertStringtobyte(cipherString)); return(new String(plainText)); } public byte[] decrypt(byte[] ciphertext) throws IllegalBlockSizeException { byte[] retVal = {(byte)0x00}; try { retVal = d_Cipher.doFinal(ciphertext); } catch (BadPaddingException e) { Log.e(TAG, e.toString()); } return retVal; } public String convertByteArrayToHex(byte[] buf) { if (buf == null) return ""; StringBuffer result = new StringBuffer(2*buf.length); for (int i = 0; i < buf.length; i++) { appendHex(result, buf[i]); } return result.toString(); } private static void appendHex(StringBuffer sb, byte b) { sb.append(HEX.charAt((b>>4)&0x0f)).append(HEX.charAt(b&0x0f)); } private static byte[] convertStringtobyte(String hexString) { int len = hexString.length()/2; byte[] result = new byte[len]; for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) { result[i] = Integer.valueOf(hexString.substring(2*i, 2*i+2), 16).byteValue(); } return result; } public byte[] getSalt() { return salt; } public SecretKey getSecretKey() { return secretKey; } public static SecretKey createSecretKey(char[] password) throws NoSuchAlgorithmException, InvalidKeySpecException { PBEKeySpec pbeKeySpec = new PBEKeySpec(password); SecretKeyFactory keyFac = SecretKeyFactory.getInstance(PBEWithSHA256And256BitAES); return keyFac.generateSecret(pbeKeySpec); } } I will call mCryptoHelper.decrypt(String str) then this results in Illegal block size exception My Env: Android 1.6 on Eclipse

  • For Loop help In a Hash Cracker Homework.

    - by aaron burns
    On the homework I am working on we are making a hash cracker. I am implementing it so as to have my cracker. java call worker.java. Worker.java implements Runnable. Worker is to take the start and end of a list of char, the hash it is to crack, and the max length of the password that made the hash. I know I want to do a loop in run() BUT I cannot think of how I would do it so it would go to the given max pasword length. I have posted the code I have so far. Any directions or areas I should look into.... I thought there was a way to do this with a certain way to write the loop but I don't know or can't find the correct syntax. Oh.. also. In main I divide up so x amount of threads can be chosen and I know that as of write now it only works for an even number of the 40 possible char given. package HashCracker; import java.util.*; import java.security.MessageDigest; import java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException; public class Cracker { // Array of chars used to produce strings public static final char[] CHARS = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789.,-!".toCharArray(); public static final int numOfChar=40; /* Given a byte[] array, produces a hex String, such as "234a6f". with 2 chars for each byte in the array. (provided code) */ public static String hexToString(byte[] bytes) { StringBuffer buff = new StringBuffer(); for (int i=0; i<bytes.length; i++) { int val = bytes[i]; val = val & 0xff; // remove higher bits, sign if (val<16) buff.append('0'); // leading 0 buff.append(Integer.toString(val, 16)); } return buff.toString(); } /* Given a string of hex byte values such as "24a26f", creates a byte[] array of those values, one byte value -128..127 for each 2 chars. (provided code) */ public static byte[] hexToArray(String hex) { byte[] result = new byte[hex.length()/2]; for (int i=0; i<hex.length(); i+=2) { result[i/2] = (byte) Integer.parseInt(hex.substring(i, i+2), 16); } return result; } public static void main(String args[]) throws NoSuchAlgorithmException { if(args.length==1)//Hash Maker { //create a byte array , meassage digestand put password into it //and get out a hash value printed to the screen using provided methods. byte[] myByteArray=args[0].getBytes(); MessageDigest hasher=MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA-1"); hasher.update(myByteArray); byte[] digestedByte=hasher.digest(); String hashValue=Cracker.hexToString(digestedByte); System.out.println(hashValue); } else//Hash Cracker { ArrayList<Thread> myRunnables=new ArrayList<Thread>(); int numOfThreads = Integer.parseInt(args[2]); int charPerThread=Cracker.numOfChar/numOfThreads; int start=0; int end=charPerThread-1; for(int i=0; i<numOfThreads; i++) { //creates, stores and starts threads. Runnable tempWorker=new Worker(start, end, args[1], Integer.parseInt(args[1])); Thread temp=new Thread(tempWorker); myRunnables.add(temp); temp.start(); start=end+1; end=end+charPerThread; } } } import java.util.*; public class Worker implements Runnable{ private int charStart; private int charEnd; private String Hash2Crack; private int maxLength; public Worker(int start, int end, String hashValue, int maxPWlength) { charStart=start; charEnd=end; Hash2Crack=hashValue; maxLength=maxPWlength; } public void run() { byte[] myHash2Crack_=Cracker.hexToArray(Hash2Crack); for(int i=charStart; i<charEnd+1; i++) { Cracker.numOfChar[i]////// this is where I am stuck. } } }

  • C# Struct No Parameterless Constructor? See what I need to accomplish

    - by Changeling
I am using a struct to pass to an unmanaged DLL as so - [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public struct valTable { public byte type; public byte map; public byte spare1; public byte spare2; public int par; public int min; public byte[] name; public valTable() { name = new byte[24]; } } The code above will not compile because VS 2005 will complain that "Structs cannot contain explicit parameterless constructors". In order to pass this struct to my DLL, I have to pass an array of struct's like so valTable[] val = new valTable[281]; What I would like to do is when I say new, the constructor is called and it creates an array of bytes like I am trying to demonstrate because the DLL is looking for that byte array of size 24 in each dimension. How can I accomplish this?

  • Upload File to Windows Azure Blob in Chunks through ASP.NET MVC, JavaScript and HTML5

    - by Shaun
Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/shaunxu/archive/2013/07/01/upload-file-to-windows-azure-blob-in-chunks-through-asp.net.aspxMany people are using Windows Azure Blob Storage to store their data in the cloud. Blob storage provides 99.9% availability with easy-to-use API through .NET SDK and HTTP REST. For example, we can store JavaScript files, images, documents in blob storage when we are building an ASP.NET web application on a Web Role in Windows Azure. Or we can store our VHD files in blob and mount it as a hard drive in our cloud service. If you are familiar with Windows Azure, you should know that there are two kinds of blob: page blob and block blob. The page blob is optimized for random read and write, which is very useful when you need to store VHD files. The block blob is optimized for sequential/chunk read and write, which has more common usage. Since we can upload block blob in blocks through BlockBlob.PutBlock, and them commit them as a whole blob with invoking the BlockBlob.PutBlockList, it is very powerful to upload large files, as we can upload blocks in parallel, and provide pause-resume feature. There are many documents, articles and blog posts described on how to upload a block blob. Most of them are focus on the server side, which means when you had received a big file, stream or binaries, how to upload them into blob storage in blocks through .NET SDK.  But the problem is, how can we upload these large files from client side, for example, a browser. This questioned to me when I was working with a Chinese customer to help them build a network disk production on top of azure. The end users upload their files from the web portal, and then the files will be stored in blob storage from the Web Role. My goal is to find the best way to transform the file from client (end user’s machine) to the server (Web Role) through browser. In this post I will demonstrate and describe what I had done, to upload large file in chunks with high speed, and save them as blocks into Windows Azure Blob Storage.   Traditional Upload, Works with Limitation The simplest way to implement this requirement is to create a web page with a form that contains a file input element and a submit button. 1: @using (Html.BeginForm("About", "Index", FormMethod.Post, new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" })) 2: { 3: <input type="file" name="file" /> 4: <input type="submit" value="upload" /> 5: } And then in the backend controller, we retrieve the whole content of this file and upload it in to the blob storage through .NET SDK. We can split the file in blocks and upload them in parallel and commit. The code had been well blogged in the community. 1: [HttpPost] 2: public ActionResult About(HttpPostedFileBase file) 3: { 4: var container = _client.GetContainerReference("test"); 5: container.CreateIfNotExists(); 6: var blob = container.GetBlockBlobReference(file.FileName); 7: var blockDataList = new Dictionary<string, byte[]>(); 8: using (var stream = file.InputStream) 9: { 10: var blockSizeInKB = 1024; 11: var offset = 0; 12: var index = 0; 13: while (offset < stream.Length) 14: { 15: var readLength = Math.Min(1024 * blockSizeInKB, (int)stream.Length - offset); 16: var blockData = new byte[readLength]; 17: offset += stream.Read(blockData, 0, readLength); 18: blockDataList.Add(Convert.ToBase64String(BitConverter.GetBytes(index)), blockData); 19:  20: index++; 21: } 22: } 23:  24: Parallel.ForEach(blockDataList, (bi) => 25: { 26: blob.PutBlock(bi.Key, new MemoryStream(bi.Value), null); 27: }); 28: blob.PutBlockList(blockDataList.Select(b => b.Key).ToArray()); 29:  30: return RedirectToAction("About"); 31: } This works perfect if we selected an image, a music or a small video to upload. But if I selected a large file, let’s say a 6GB HD-movie, after upload for about few minutes the page will be shown as below and the upload will be terminated. In ASP.NET there is a limitation of request length and the maximized request length is defined in the web.config file. It’s a number which less than about 4GB. So if we want to upload a really big file, we cannot simply implement in this way. Also, in Windows Azure, a cloud service network load balancer will terminate the connection if exceed the timeout period. From my test the timeout looks like 2 - 3 minutes. Hence, when we need to upload a large file we cannot just use the basic HTML elements. Besides the limitation mentioned above, the simple HTML file upload cannot provide rich upload experience such as chunk upload, pause and pause-resume. So we need to find a better way to upload large file from the client to the server.   Upload in Chunks through HTML5 and JavaScript In order to break those limitation mentioned above we will try to upload the large file in chunks. This takes some benefit to us such as - No request size limitation: Since we upload in chunks, we can define the request size for each chunks regardless how big the entire file is. - No timeout problem: The size of chunks are controlled by us, which means we should be able to make sure request for each chunk upload will not exceed the timeout period of both ASP.NET and Windows Azure load balancer. It was a big challenge to upload big file in chunks until we have HTML5. There are some new features and improvements introduced in HTML5 and we will use them to implement our solution.   In HTML5, the File interface had been improved with a new method called “slice”. It can be used to read part of the file by specifying the start byte index and the end byte index. For example if the entire file was 1024 bytes, file.slice(512, 768) will read the part of this file from the 512nd byte to 768th byte, and return a new object of interface called "Blob”, which you can treat as an array of bytes. In fact,  a Blob object represents a file-like object of immutable, raw data. The File interface is based on Blob, inheriting blob functionality and expanding it to support files on the user's system. For more information about the Blob please refer here. File and Blob is very useful to implement the chunk upload. We will use File interface to represent the file the user selected from the browser and then use File.slice to read the file in chunks in the size we wanted. For example, if we wanted to upload a 10MB file with 512KB chunks, then we can read it in 512KB blobs by using File.slice in a loop.   Assuming we have a web page as below. User can select a file, an input box to specify the block size in KB and a button to start upload. 1: <div> 2: <input type="file" id="upload_files" name="files[]" /><br /> 3: Block Size: <input type="number" id="block_size" value="512" name="block_size" />KB<br /> 4: <input type="button" id="upload_button_blob" name="upload" value="upload (blob)" /> 5: </div> Then we can have the JavaScript function to upload the file in chunks when user clicked the button. 1: <script type="text/javascript"> 1: 2: $(function () { 3: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 4: }); 5: });</script> Firstly we need to ensure the client browser supports the interfaces we are going to use. Just try to invoke the File, Blob and FormData from the “window” object. If any of them is “undefined” the condition result will be “false” which means your browser doesn’t support these premium feature and it’s time for you to get your browser updated. FormData is another new feature we are going to use in the future. It could generate a temporary form for us. We will use this interface to create a form with chunk and associated metadata when invoked the service through ajax. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: if (window.File && window.Blob && window.FormData) { 4: alert("Your brwoser is awesome, let's rock!"); 5: } 6: else { 7: alert("Oh man plz update to a modern browser before try is cool stuff out."); 8: return; 9: } 10: }); Each browser supports these interfaces by their own implementation and currently the Blob, File and File.slice are supported by Chrome 21, FireFox 13, IE 10, Opera 12 and Safari 5.1 or higher. After that we worked on the files the user selected one by one since in HTML5, user can select multiple files in one file input box. 1: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 2: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 3: var file = files[i]; 4: var fileSize = file.size; 5: var fileName = file.name; 6: } Next, we calculated the start index and end index for each chunks based on the size the user specified from the browser. We put them into an array with the file name and the index, which will be used when we upload chunks into Windows Azure Blob Storage as blocks since we need to specify the target blob name and the block index. At the same time we will store the list of all indexes into another variant which will be used to commit blocks into blob in Azure Storage once all chunks had been uploaded successfully. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: ... ... 4: // start to upload each files in chunks 5: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 6: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 7: var file = files[i]; 8: var fileSize = file.size; 9: var fileName = file.name; 10:  11: // calculate the start and end byte index for each blocks(chunks) 12: // with the index, file name and index list for future using 13: var blockSizeInKB = $("#block_size").val(); 14: var blockSize = blockSizeInKB * 1024; 15: var blocks = []; 16: var offset = 0; 17: var index = 0; 18: var list = ""; 19: while (offset < fileSize) { 20: var start = offset; 21: var end = Math.min(offset + blockSize, fileSize); 22:  23: blocks.push({ 24: name: fileName, 25: index: index, 26: start: start, 27: end: end 28: }); 29: list += index + ","; 30:  31: offset = end; 32: index++; 33: } 34: } 35: }); Now we have all chunks’ information ready. The next step should be upload them one by one to the server side, and at the server side when received a chunk it will upload as a block into Blob Storage, and finally commit them with the index list through BlockBlobClient.PutBlockList. But since all these invokes are ajax calling, which means not synchronized call. So we need to introduce a new JavaScript library to help us coordinate the asynchronize operation, which named “async.js”. You can download this JavaScript library here, and you can find the document here. I will not explain this library too much in this post. We will put all procedures we want to execute as a function array, and pass into the proper function defined in async.js to let it help us to control the execution sequence, in series or in parallel. Hence we will define an array and put the function for chunk upload into this array. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: ... ... 4:  5: // start to upload each files in chunks 6: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 7: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 8: var file = files[i]; 9: var fileSize = file.size; 10: var fileName = file.name; 11: // calculate the start and end byte index for each blocks(chunks) 12: // with the index, file name and index list for future using 13: ... ... 14:  15: // define the function array and push all chunk upload operation into this array 16: blocks.forEach(function (block) { 17: putBlocks.push(function (callback) { 18: }); 19: }); 20: } 21: }); 22: }); As you can see, I used File.slice method to read each chunks based on the start and end byte index we calculated previously, and constructed a temporary HTML form with the file name, chunk index and chunk data through another new feature in HTML5 named FormData. Then post this form to the backend server through jQuery.ajax. This is the key part of our solution. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: ... ... 4: // start to upload each files in chunks 5: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 6: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 7: var file = files[i]; 8: var fileSize = file.size; 9: var fileName = file.name; 10: // calculate the start and end byte index for each blocks(chunks) 11: // with the index, file name and index list for future using 12: ... ... 13: // define the function array and push all chunk upload operation into this array 14: blocks.forEach(function (block) { 15: putBlocks.push(function (callback) { 16: // load blob based on the start and end index for each chunks 17: var blob = file.slice(block.start, block.end); 18: // put the file name, index and blob into a temporary from 19: var fd = new FormData(); 20: fd.append("name", block.name); 21: fd.append("index", block.index); 22: fd.append("file", blob); 23: // post the form to backend service (asp.net mvc controller action) 24: $.ajax({ 25: url: "/Home/UploadInFormData", 26: data: fd, 27: processData: false, 28: contentType: "multipart/form-data", 29: type: "POST", 30: success: function (result) { 31: if (!result.success) { 32: alert(result.error); 33: } 34: callback(null, block.index); 35: } 36: }); 37: }); 38: }); 39: } 40: }); Then we will invoke these functions one by one by using the async.js. And once all functions had been executed successfully I invoked another ajax call to the backend service to commit all these chunks (blocks) as the blob in Windows Azure Storage. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: ... ... 4: // start to upload each files in chunks 5: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 6: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 7: var file = files[i]; 8: var fileSize = file.size; 9: var fileName = file.name; 10: // calculate the start and end byte index for each blocks(chunks) 11: // with the index, file name and index list for future using 12: ... ... 13: // define the function array and push all chunk upload operation into this array 14: ... ... 15: // invoke the functions one by one 16: // then invoke the commit ajax call to put blocks into blob in azure storage 17: async.series(putBlocks, function (error, result) { 18: var data = { 19: name: fileName, 20: list: list 21: }; 22: $.post("/Home/Commit", data, function (result) { 23: if (!result.success) { 24: alert(result.error); 25: } 26: else { 27: alert("done!"); 28: } 29: }); 30: }); 31: } 32: }); That’s all in the client side. The outline of our logic would be - Calculate the start and end byte index for each chunks based on the block size. - Defined the functions of reading the chunk form file and upload the content to the backend service through ajax. - Execute the functions defined in previous step with “async.js”. - Commit the chunks by invoking the backend service in Windows Azure Storage finally.   Save Chunks as Blocks into Blob Storage In above we finished the client size JavaScript code. It uploaded the file in chunks to the backend service which we are going to implement in this step. We will use ASP.NET MVC as our backend service, and it will receive the chunks, upload into Windows Azure Bob Storage in blocks, then finally commit as one blob. As in the client side we uploaded chunks by invoking the ajax call to the URL "/Home/UploadInFormData", I created a new action under the Index controller and it only accepts HTTP POST request. 1: [HttpPost] 2: public JsonResult UploadInFormData() 3: { 4: var error = string.Empty; 5: try 6: { 7: } 8: catch (Exception e) 9: { 10: error = e.ToString(); 11: } 12:  13: return new JsonResult() 14: { 15: Data = new 16: { 17: success = string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(error), 18: error = error 19: } 20: }; 21: } Then I retrieved the file name, index and the chunk content from the Request.Form object, which was passed from our client side. And then, used the Windows Azure SDK to create a blob container (in this case we will use the container named “test”.) and create a blob reference with the blob name (same as the file name). Then uploaded the chunk as a block of this blob with the index, since in Blob Storage each block must have an index (ID) associated with so that finally we can put all blocks as one blob by specifying their block ID list. 1: [HttpPost] 2: public JsonResult UploadInFormData() 3: { 4: var error = string.Empty; 5: try 6: { 7: var name = Request.Form["name"]; 8: var index = int.Parse(Request.Form["index"]); 9: var file = Request.Files[0]; 10: var id = Convert.ToBase64String(BitConverter.GetBytes(index)); 11:  12: var container = _client.GetContainerReference("test"); 13: container.CreateIfNotExists(); 14: var blob = container.GetBlockBlobReference(name); 15: blob.PutBlock(id, file.InputStream, null); 16: } 17: catch (Exception e) 18: { 19: error = e.ToString(); 20: } 21:  22: return new JsonResult() 23: { 24: Data = new 25: { 26: success = string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(error), 27: error = error 28: } 29: }; 30: } Next, I created another action to commit the blocks into blob once all chunks had been uploaded. Similarly, I retrieved the blob name from the Request.Form. I also retrieved the chunks ID list, which is the block ID list from the Request.Form in a string format, split them as a list, then invoked the BlockBlob.PutBlockList method. After that our blob will be shown in the container and ready to be download. 1: [HttpPost] 2: public JsonResult Commit() 3: { 4: var error = string.Empty; 5: try 6: { 7: var name = Request.Form["name"]; 8: var list = Request.Form["list"]; 9: var ids = list 10: .Split(',') 11: .Where(id => !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(id)) 12: .Select(id => Convert.ToBase64String(BitConverter.GetBytes(int.Parse(id)))) 13: .ToArray(); 14:  15: var container = _client.GetContainerReference("test"); 16: container.CreateIfNotExists(); 17: var blob = container.GetBlockBlobReference(name); 18: blob.PutBlockList(ids); 19: } 20: catch (Exception e) 21: { 22: error = e.ToString(); 23: } 24:  25: return new JsonResult() 26: { 27: Data = new 28: { 29: success = string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(error), 30: error = error 31: } 32: }; 33: } Now we finished all code we need. Then we can find the blob in our Windows Azure Blob Storage.   Optimized by Parallel Upload In previous example we just uploaded our file in chunks. This solved the problem that ASP.NET MVC request content size limitation as well as the Windows Azure load balancer timeout. But it might introduce the performance problem since we uploaded chunks in sequence. In order to improve the upload performance we could modify our client side code a bit to make the upload operation invoked in parallel. The good news is that, “async.js” library provides the parallel execution function. If you remembered the code we invoke the service to upload chunks, it utilized “async.series” which means all functions will be executed in sequence. Now we will change this code to “async.parallel”. This will invoke all functions in parallel. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: ... ... 4: // start to upload each files in chunks 5: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 6: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 7: var file = files[i]; 8: var fileSize = file.size; 9: var fileName = file.name; 10: // calculate the start and end byte index for each blocks(chunks) 11: // with the index, file name and index list for future using 12: ... ... 13: // define the function array and push all chunk upload operation into this array 14: ... ... 15: // invoke the functions one by one 16: // then invoke the commit ajax call to put blocks into blob in azure storage 17: async.parallel(putBlocks, function (error, result) { 18: var data = { 19: name: fileName, 20: list: list 21: }; 22: $.post("/Home/Commit", data, function (result) { 23: if (!result.success) { 24: alert(result.error); 25: } 26: else { 27: alert("done!"); 28: } 29: }); 30: }); 31: } 32: }); In this way all chunks will be uploaded to the server side at the same time to maximize the bandwidth usage. This should work if the file was not very large and the chunk size was not very small. But for large file this might introduce another problem that too many ajax calls are sent to the server at the same time. So the best solution should be, upload the chunks in parallel with maximum concurrency limitation. The code below specified the concurrency limitation to 4, which means at the most only 4 ajax calls could be invoked at the same time. 1: $("#upload_button_blob").click(function () { 2: // assert the browser support html5 3: ... ... 4: // start to upload each files in chunks 5: var files = $("#upload_files")[0].files; 6: for (var i = 0; i < files.length; i++) { 7: var file = files[i]; 8: var fileSize = file.size; 9: var fileName = file.name; 10: // calculate the start and end byte index for each blocks(chunks) 11: // with the index, file name and index list for future using 12: ... ... 13: // define the function array and push all chunk upload operation into this array 14: ... ... 15: // invoke the functions one by one 16: // then invoke the commit ajax call to put blocks into blob in azure storage 17: async.parallelLimit(putBlocks, 4, function (error, result) { 18: var data = { 19: name: fileName, 20: list: list 21: }; 22: $.post("/Home/Commit", data, function (result) { 23: if (!result.success) { 24: alert(result.error); 25: } 26: else { 27: alert("done!"); 28: } 29: }); 30: }); 31: } 32: });   Summary In this post we discussed how to upload files in chunks to the backend service and then upload them into Windows Azure Blob Storage in blocks. We focused on the frontend side and leverage three new feature introduced in HTML 5 which are - File.slice: Read part of the file by specifying the start and end byte index. - Blob: File-like interface which contains the part of the file content. - FormData: Temporary form element that we can pass the chunk alone with some metadata to the backend service. Then we discussed the performance consideration of chunk uploading. Sequence upload cannot provide maximized upload speed, but the unlimited parallel upload might crash the browser and server if too many chunks. So we finally came up with the solution to upload chunks in parallel with the concurrency limitation. We also demonstrated how to utilize “async.js” JavaScript library to help us control the asynchronize call and the parallel limitation.   Regarding the chunk size and the parallel limitation value there is no “best” value. You need to test vary composition and find out the best one for your particular scenario. It depends on the local bandwidth, client machine cores and the server side (Windows Azure Cloud Service Virtual Machine) cores, memory and bandwidth. Below is one of my performance test result. The client machine was Windows 8 IE 10 with 4 cores. I was using Microsoft Cooperation Network. The web site was hosted on Windows Azure China North data center (in Beijing) with one small web role (1.7GB 1 core CPU, 1.75GB memory with 100Mbps bandwidth). The test cases were - Chunk size: 512KB, 1MB, 2MB, 4MB. - Upload Mode: Sequence, parallel (unlimited), parallel with limit (4 threads, 8 threads). - Chunk Format: base64 string, binaries. - Target file: 100MB. - Each case was tested 3 times. Below is the test result chart. Some thoughts, but not guidance or best practice: - Parallel gets better performance than series. - No significant performance improvement between parallel 4 threads and 8 threads. - Transform with binaries provides better performance than base64. - In all cases, chunk size in 1MB - 2MB gets better performance.   Hope this helps, Shaun All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. • Help trying to get two-finger scrolling to work on Asus UL80VT

    - by Dan2k3k4
Multi-touch works fine on Windows 7 with: two-fingers scroll vertical and horizontally, two-finger tap for middle click, and three-finger tap for right click. However with Ubuntu, I've never been able to get multi-touch to "save" and work, I was able to get it to work a few times but after restarting - it would just reset back. I have the settings for two-finger scrolling on: Mouse and Touchpad Touchpad Two-finger scrolling (selected) Enable horizontal scrolling (ticked) The cursor stops moving when I try to scroll with two fingers, but it doesn't actually scroll the page. When I perform xinput list, I get: Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)] ? Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)] ? ETPS/2 Elantech ETF0401 id=13 [slave pointer (2)] I've tried to install some 'synaptics-dkms' bug-fix (from a few years back) but that didn't work, so I removed that. I've tried installing 'uTouch' but that didn't seem to do anything so removed it. Here's what I have installed now: dpkg --get-selections installed-software grep 'touch\|mouse\|track\|synapt' installed-software libsoundtouch0 --- install libutouch-evemu1 --- install libutouch-frame1 --- install libutouch-geis1 --- install libutouch-grail1 --- install printer-driver-ptouch --- install ptouch-driver --- install xserver-xorg-input-multitouch --- install xserver-xorg-input-mouse --- install xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse --- install libnetfilter-conntrack3 --- install libxatracker1 --- install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics --- install So, I'll start again, what should I do now to get two-finger scrolling to work and ensure it works after restarting? Also doing: synclient TapButton1=1 TapButton2=2 TapButton3=3 ...works but doesn't save after restarting. However doing: synclient VertTwoFingerScroll=1 HorizTwoFingerScroll=1 Does NOT work to fix the two-finger scrolling. • Best way to blend colors in tile lighting? (XNA)

    - by Lemoncreme
I have made a color, decent, recursive, fast tile lighting system in my game. It does everything I need except one thing: different colors are not blended at all: Here is my color blend code: return (new Color( (byte)MathHelper.Clamp(color.R / factor, 0, 255), (byte)MathHelper.Clamp(color.G / factor, 0, 255), (byte)MathHelper.Clamp(color.B / factor, 0, 255))); As you can see it does not take the already in place color into account. color is the color of the previous light, which is weakened by the above code by factor. If I wanted to blend using the color already in place, I would use the variable blend. Here is an example of a blend that I tried that failed, using blend: return (new Color( (byte)MathHelper.Clamp(((color.R + blend.R) / 2) / factor, 0, 255), (byte)MathHelper.Clamp(((color.G + blend.G) / 2) / factor, 0, 255), (byte)MathHelper.Clamp(((color.B + blend.B) / 2) / factor, 0, 255))); This color blend produces inaccurate and strange results. I need a blend that is accurate, like the first example, that blends the two colors together. What is the best way to do this?

  • Read and write from a byte stream if the endianess of the data is different from that of the current

    - by Sam Holder
I have a stream of bytes which contains a flag which identifies the endianness of the data in the header. I want to read the doubles from the stream, which will presumably need to be different if the endianness of the data in the header is different? I am currently using a BinaryReader and calling ReadDouble to read the data from the stream, but if the endianness flag indicates that the data stream has a different endianness than the machine architecture then presumably this will not work? How should this be handled? Should I check the endianness of my data against that of the current machine then when I want to read a double instead read the bytes raw into a byte array and do array.Reverse to reverse the data before using BitConverter.ToDouble () with the reversed data and a zero offset? I could just test this but I do not have a source of data for both endianness so am a bit concerned about creating test data to test the parsing and this being different from what 'real' data might look like.

  • java: how to get a string representation of a compressed byte array ?

    - by Guillaume
I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into a compressed file 'data.zip' server send a string representation of data.zip to the repository repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool The problem arise at step 3 when I try to get a string representation of my compressed file. Here is a sample class, using the zip*stream and that emulate the repository showcasing my problem. The created zip file is working, but after its 'serialization' it's get corrupted. (the sample class use jakarta commons.io ) Many thanks for your help. package zip; import java.io.File; import java.io.FileInputStream; import java.io.FileOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.InputStream; import java.util.zip.ZipEntry; import java.util.zip.ZipInputStream; import java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream; import org.apache.commons.io.FileUtils; /** * Date: May 19, 2010 - 6:13:07 PM * * @author Guillaume AME. */ public class ZipMe { public static void addOrUpdate(File zipFile, File ... files) throws IOException { File tempFile = File.createTempFile(zipFile.getName(), null); // delete it, otherwise you cannot rename your existing zip to it. tempFile.delete(); boolean renameOk = zipFile.renameTo(tempFile); if (!renameOk) { throw new RuntimeException("could not rename the file " + zipFile.getAbsolutePath() + " to " + tempFile.getAbsolutePath()); } byte[] buf = new byte[1024]; ZipInputStream zin = new ZipInputStream(new FileInputStream(tempFile)); ZipOutputStream out = new ZipOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(zipFile)); ZipEntry entry = zin.getNextEntry(); while (entry != null) { String name = entry.getName(); boolean notInFiles = true; for (File f : files) { if (f.getName().equals(name)) { notInFiles = false; break; } } if (notInFiles) { // Add ZIP entry to output stream. out.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(name)); // Transfer bytes from the ZIP file to the output file int len; while ((len = zin.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } } entry = zin.getNextEntry(); } // Close the streams zin.close(); // Compress the files if (files != null) { for (File file : files) { InputStream in = new FileInputStream(file); // Add ZIP entry to output stream. out.putNextEntry(new ZipEntry(file.getName())); // Transfer bytes from the file to the ZIP file int len; while ((len = in.read(buf)) > 0) { out.write(buf, 0, len); } // Complete the entry out.closeEntry(); in.close(); } // Complete the ZIP file } tempFile.delete(); out.close(); } public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { final String zipArchivePath = "c:/temp/archive.zip"; final String tempFilePath = "c:/temp/data.txt"; final String resultZipFile = "c:/temp/resultingArchive.zip"; File zipArchive = new File(zipArchivePath); FileUtils.touch(zipArchive); File tempFile = new File(tempFilePath); FileUtils.writeStringToFile(tempFile, "hello world"); addOrUpdate(zipArchive, tempFile); //archive.zip exists and contains a compressed data.txt that can be read using winrar //now simulate writing of the zip into a in memory cache String archiveText = FileUtils.readFileToString(zipArchive); FileUtils.writeStringToFile(new File(resultZipFile), archiveText); //resultingArchive.zip exists, contains a compressed data.txt, but it can not //be read using winrar: CRC failed in data.txt. • Ways to divide the high/low byte from a 16bit address?

    - by Grissiom
Hello, I'm developing a software on 8051 processor. A frequent job is to divide the high and low byte of a 16bit address. I want to see there are how many ways to achieve it. The ways I come up so far are: (say ptr is a 16bit pointer, and int is 16bit int) ADDH = (unsigned int) ptr >> 8; ADDL = (unsigned int) ptr & 0x00FF; and ADDH = ((unsigned char *)&ptr)[0]; ADDL = ((unsigned char *)&ptr)[1]; Does anyone have any other bright ideas? ;) And anyone can tell me which way is more efficient?

  • A 4-byte Unsigned Int for Sql Server 2008?

    - by Jeff Meatball Yang
I understand there are multiple questions about this on SO, but I have yet to find a definitive answer of "yes, here's how..." So here it is again: What are the possible ways to store an unsigned integer value (32-bit value or 32-bit bitmap) into a 4-byte field in SQL Server? Here are ideas I have seen: 1) Use a -1*2^31 offset for all values Disadvantages: need to perform math on the values before reading/writing/aggregating. 2) Use 4 tinyint fields Disadvantages: need to concatenate values to perform any operations 3) Use binary(4) Disadvantages: actually uses 4 + 2 bytes of space

  • In C# how can I serialize a List<int> to a byte[] in order to store it in a DB field?

    - by Matt
In C# how can I serialize a List to a byte[] in order to store it in a DB field? I know how to serialize to a file on the disk, but how do I just serialize to a variable? Here is how I serialized to the disk: List<int> l = IenumerableofInts.ToList(); Stream s = File.OpenWrite("file.bin"); BinaryFormatter bf = new BinaryFormatter(); bf.Serialize(s, lR); s.Close(); I'm sure it's much the same but I just can't wrap my head around it.

  • How to print a variable in reversed byte order in Perl?

    - by jth
Hi, I'am trying to convert the variable $num into its reverse byte order and print it out. This is what I have done so far: my $num=0x5514ddb7; my $s=pack('I!',$num); print "$s\n"; He prints it out as some non-printable characters and in a hex editor it looks right, but how can I get it readable on the console? Already tried print sprintf("%#x\n",$s); but he complains about an non-numeric argument, so I think pack returns a string. Any ideas how can I print out `0xb7dd1455 on the console, based on $num?

Running Rails 2.3.9 and just upgraded to Ruby 1.9.2p0. I have been putting: # encoding: utf-8 in a bunch of my .rb files where ever "£" character is used, and this seems to be working. But i just got my first view error: invalid byte sequence in US-ASCI for this line of code: <%= number_to_currency(product.price, :unit => "£", :precision => 0) %> I don't think its a coincidence that the "£" character is involved again. Any ideas on how to solve this please? Thanks

The read() function works fine but is really slow so I've tried using the overloaded version using byte[]. For some reason, the audio becomes lossy and strange after download. I'm not totally sure what I'm doing wrong so any help is appreciated! Here's the simplified, sloppy version of the code. BufferedInputStream bin = new BufferedInputStream((new URL(url)).openConnection().getInputStream()); File file = new File(fileName); FileOutputStream fop = new FileOutputStream(file); int rd = bin.read(); while(rd != -1) { fop.write(rd); rd = bin.read(); }

  • QR Code encoding and decoding using zxing

    - by helixed
Okay, so I'm going to take the off chance that someone here has used zxing before. I'm developing a Java application, and one of the things it needs to do is encode a byte array of data into a QR Code and then decode it at a later time. Here's an example of what my encoder looks like: byte[] b = {0x48, 0x45, 0x4C, 0x4C, 0x4F}; //convert the byte array into a UTF-8 string String data; try { data = new String(b, "UTF8"); } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) { //the program shouldn't be able to get here return; } //get a byte matrix for the data ByteMatrix matrix; com.google.zxing.Writer writer = new QRCodeWriter(); try { matrix = writer.encode(data, com.google.zxing.BarcodeFormat.QR_CODE, width, height); } catch (com.google.zxing.WriterException e) { //exit the method return; } //generate an image from the byte matrix int width = matrix.getWidth(); int height = matrix.getHeight(); byte[][] array = matrix.getArray(); //create buffered image to draw to BufferedImage image = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB); //iterate through the matrix and draw the pixels to the image for (int y = 0; y < height; y++) { for (int x = 0; x < width; x++) { int grayValue = array[y][x] & 0xff; image.setRGB(x, y, (grayValue == 0 ? 0 : 0xFFFFFF)); } } //write the image to the output stream ImageIO.write(image, "png", outputStream); The beginning byte array in this code is just used to test it. The actual byte data will be varied. Here's what my decoder looks like: //get the data from the input stream BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(inputStream); //convert the image to a binary bitmap source LuminanceSource source = new BufferedImageLuminanceSource(image); BinaryBitmap bitmap = new BinaryBitmap(new HybridBinarizer(source)); //decode the barcode QRCodeReader reader = new QRCodeReader(); Result result; try { result = reader.decode(bitmap, hints); } catch (ReaderException e) { //the data is improperly formatted throw new MCCDatabaseMismatchException(); } byte[] b = result.getRawBytes(); System.out.println(ByteHelper.convertUnsignedBytesToHexString(result.getText().getBytes("UTF8"))); System.out.println(ByteHelper.convertUnsignedBytesToHexString(b)); convertUnsignedBytesToHexString(byte) is a method which converts an array of bytes in a string of hexadecimal characters. When I try to run these two blocks of code together, this is the output: 48454c4c4f 202b0b78cc00ec11ec11ec11ec11ec11ec11ec Clearly the text is being encoded, but the actual bytes of data are completely off. Any help would be appreciated here. Thanks, helixed

  • Set DllImport attribute dynamically

    - by matt-bond
I am making use of an external unmanaged dll using PInvoke and the DllImport attribute. eg. [DllImport("mcs_apiD.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] private static extern byte start_api(byte pid, byte stat, byte dbg, byte ka); I am wondering if it is possible to alter the dll file details (mcs_apiD.dll in this example) dynmically in some manner, if for instance I wanted to build against another dll version

  • Java: Converting UTF 8 to String

    - by kujawk
When I run the following program: public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception { byte str[] = {(byte)0xEC, (byte)0x96, (byte)0xB4}; String s = new String(str, "UTF-8"); } on Linux and inspect the value of s in jdb, I correctly get: s = "ì–´" on Windows, I incorrectly get: s = "?" My byte sequence is a valid UTF-8 character in Korean, why would it be producing two very different results?

  • Issues with timed out downloads via TomCat?

    - by Ira Baxter
We get, in our opinion, a lot of failed download attempts and want to understand why. We offer downloads via an email link (typical): http://www.semanticdesigns.com/deliverEval/<productname> This is processed by Tomcat on Linux via a jsp file, with the following code: response.addHeader( "Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + fileTail ); response.addHeader( "Content-Type", "application/x-msdos-program" ); byte[] buf = new byte[8192]; int read; try { java.io.FileInputStream input = new java.io.FileInputStream( filename ); java.io.OutputStream o = response.getOutputStream(); while( ( read = input.read( buf, 0, 8192 ) ) != -1 ){ o.write( buf, 0, read ); } o.flush(); } catch( Exception e ){ util.fatalError( request.getRequestURI(), "Error sending file '" + filename + "' to client", e ); throw e; } We get a lot of reported errors (about 50% error rate): URI --- /deliverEval/download.jsp Code Message: Error sending file '/home/sd/ShippingMasters/DMS/Domains/C/GCC3/Tools/TestCoverage/SD_C~GCC3_TestCoverage.1.6.12.exe' to client Stack Trace ----------- null at org.apache.coyote.tomcat5.OutputBuffer.realWriteBytes(byte[], int, int) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.tomcat.util.buf.ByteChunk.append(byte[], int, int) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.coyote.tomcat5.OutputBuffer.writeBytes(byte[], int, int) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.coyote.tomcat5.OutputBuffer.write(byte[], int, int) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.coyote.tomcat5.CoyoteOutputStream.write(byte[], int, int) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.jsp.deliverEval.download_jsp._jspService(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.jasper.runtime.HttpJspBase.service(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(javax.servlet.ServletRequest, javax.servlet.ServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServletWrapper.service(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse, boolean) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.serviceJspFile(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse, java.lang.String, java.lang.Throwable, boolean) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.jasper.servlet.JspServlet.service(javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest, javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(javax.servlet.ServletRequest, javax.servlet.ServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(javax.servlet.ServletRequest, javax.servlet.ServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(javax.servlet.ServletRequest, javax.servlet.ServletResponse) (Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(org.apache.catalina.Request, org.apache.catalina.Response, org.apache.catalina.ValveContext) (Unknown Source) We don't understand why this rate should be so high. Is there any way to get more information about the cause of the error? It is useful to know that these are pretty big documents, 3-50 megabytes. They reside on the Linux server so reading them is just a local disk read, and is unlikely to be a contributor to the problem. But sheer size might be an issue for the recipients browser? Is this kind of error rate typical for downloads? My personal experience downloading other's documents suggests no; our internal attempts show this to be very reliable, but we're operating on our internal network for such experiments so we're missing the complexity of the intervening internet.

  • Too much delay while sending object over UDP to server

    - by RomZes
I'm getting 4 sec delay when sending objects over UDP. Working on small game and trying to implement multiplayer. For now just trying to synchronize movements of 2 balls on the screen. StartingPoint.java is my server(first player), that receiving serialized objects (coordinates). SecondPlayer.java is client that sending serialized objects to server. When I'm moving my first object it appears 4 seconds later on different screen. • Can this PHP version of SPICE be improved?

    - by Noctis Skytower
I do not know much about PHP's standard library of functions and was wondering if the following code can be improved in any way. The implementation should yield the same results, the API should remain as it is, but ways to make is more PHP-ish would be greatly appreciated. This is a custom encryption library. • How can this PHP code be improved? What should change?

    - by Noctis Skytower
This is a custom encryption library. I do not know much about PHP's standard library of functions and was wondering if the following code can be improved in any way. The implementation should yield the same results, the API should remain as it is, but ways to make is more PHP-ish would be greatly appreciated.
