• xp vpn client dns issue

  Hi All, I have a problem with dns when connected to my work vpn. For ease of explanation I'll use the following in my outline of the problem: - name of my machine on work network is REMOTE_XP (original i know) - ip of my machine on work network is 192.168.2.80 - name of my machine on my local network is LOCAL_XP - ip of my machine on my local network is 10.0.0.3 What I want to be able to do when connected to vpn: - browse the internet from LOCAL_XP - ping by name REMOTE_XP Now it seems I've so far mentioned either 1 but not both of my wishlist. If i go to my vpn network properties (on LOCAL_XP) and uncheck the "use default dns on remote network" then I can browse the internet from my local machine but can't ping REMOTE_XP (though I can ping 192.168.2.80) If I check "use default dns..." then I can ping REMOTE_XP but can't browse the internet from LOCAL_XP. Is there a way I can have my dns cake and eat it, or will I have to accept that it will be an either/or situation? Thanks in advance.

• "I/O Error Occurred" in vSphere Client working with ESXi

  I have a datastore set up in ESXi where I put all my ISOs. Somehow, something broke (I don't know what) and now I can't upload files to that (or any other) datastore. For large, ISO-sized files, the "Uploading..." dialog pops up, hangs for a while, and then the "I/O Error Occurred" displays. For smaller files (10 meg neighborhood), the "Uploading..." dialog comes up, a progress bar starts going, and it estimates a time remaining. Then it hangs at 1 second remaining for a while, and the same "I/O Error Occurred" comes up. Has anyone seen a problem like this?

• World's simplest, LIGHTEST email client?

  I do not want the bloat that is outlook, nor do I need exchange server-like nifty features. Most certainly do not want the bloat that is thunderbird. I just want to be able to send and receive email as/with the particular email account I set up on my domain. Pocomail sounded like a nice idea but apparently it does not deal with html and since this is for a tiny fledgling biz, i think I might need to accomodate html... so I didn't investigate further. Too bad gmail won't let me send from my own mail server, really. :o) What do you guys use that simple and nifty? ===edit=== forgot to mention this is going to be on Windows Vista. (Hey, I'm not a "superuser", okay? I got bounced from stackoverflow :-) )

  I'm customising the Group Headers on a Telerik RadGrid by injecting a LinkButton into it during the ItemDataBound event. The button renders perfectly, but I can't get it to hit any event handlers.   Is there a bug in the 3.0 SDK that disables real-time zooming and intercepting the zoom-in gesture for the MKMapView? I have some real simple code so I can detect tap events, but there are two problems: zoom-in gesture is always interpreted as a zoom-out none of the zoom gestures update the Map's view in realtime. In hitTest, if I return the "map" view, the MKMapView functionality works great, but I don't get the opportunity to intercept the events. Any ideas? • JTree events seem misordered

  It appears to me that tree selection events should happen after focus events, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Assume you have a JTree and a JTextField, where the JTextField is populated by what is selected in the tree. When the user changes the text field, on focus lost, you update the tree from the text field. however, the tree selection is changed before the focus is lost on the text field. this is incorrect, right? Any ideas? • Monitoring all events in a class and sub-classes

  Hi, I wonder if someone can help me. I've got a console App which I use to debug various components as I develop them. I'd like to be able to log to the console every time an event is fired either in the object I've instantiated or in anything it's instantiated [ad infinitum]. I wouldn't see some of these events normally due to them being consumed further down the chain). Ideally I would be able to log all public and private events but if only public are possible, I can live with that. I've Googled and all I can find is how to monitor a directory - So I'm not sure if this is not possible or simply has a name that I don't know. The sort of information I'm after is similar to what's found in an exception - Target Site, Source, Stack Trace, etc... Could I perhaps do this through reflection somehow? If someone could tell me if this is even possible and perhaps point me at some good resources, I'd be very grateful.   I'm working on a Javascript class based on the Prototype library. This class needs to observe an event to perform a drag operation (the current drag-drop controls aren't right for this situation), but I'm having problems making it stop observing the events. • Axis2 Web Service Client Generation - Types without modifying the client

  Is it possible with Axis2 and Eclipse to generate a Web Service client and have it use java types that you already have in packages instead of creating it's own types. Reason being of course if I have type A already created and it creates it's own Type A I can't just assign variable of type A to variable of type B. The wsdl is being generated from a Web Service deployed to an application server. If it's not possible to generate it from that would it be possible to generate a client from the already existing java files.

• Web service client receiving generic FaultException rather than FaultException<T>

  I am connecting to a Java Axis2 web service using a .NET web service client. The client itself targets the .NET 3.5 framework. The application that wraps the client DLL is 2.0. I'm not sure if that has any bearing. I have been given the WSDL and XSDs by email. From those I have built my proxy class using svcutil. Although I am able to successfully send messages, I am unable to pick up the correct faults when something goes wrong. • How to handle splitting a file under source control?

  I have a .cpp file and .h file containing a class. Class.cpp contains the implementation and Class.h contains the definition. The class is overcomplicated so I want to separate some code and move it into a separate class. So I create NewClass.cpp and NewClass.h and move the code there. How do I handle this when the files are under SVN? I can simply "svn add" the two new files, but then they will appear as new and will have no history. I could instead "svn copy and rename" the two initial files and edit the the two old files and the two new files - then the two new files will have common history. Which approach is better from the point of version control? Should the new files share history with the old files or should they appear as new?

It seems a novel idea to be able to get a programmable remote that can be used to manipulate windows (like the Harmony remote control series) along with some programmable software (preferably Windows supported) to convert any button on a regular remote to some command on the PC. • [Vista] Can not access control panel.

  I can not access Contol panel in my windows vista machine. As soon as i click the "conrol panel" item in start items, it shows up a window and then its closed automatically ( same happens if i use "control" command). Is there some program or some registry entry thats restricting it? is ther a way to control this behaviour?

• How to communicate between Client and Server in a Client-Server Application?

  I would like to implement an Client-Server Application, where the business-logic, security validations and a database are at the server and the user interface are at the client. I would like to implement clients in different languages i.e. one in WPF/.NET, one Swing/Java , one in Android/Java and maybe one HTML/JavaScript client. The server will be on Internet, so I would like to be able to have encrypted communication. The client will send some lists of items to be added to the database, or update items, and do some transactions. The server will check if the items are already updated by another client, or update the item, add new items or delete items. How do I solve the communication between clients and the server in such a system? I have been thinking about: http/https webserver, and sending messages in JSON or XML and use Web Sockets for bi-directional communication. Use http in a RESTful way, except when WebSockets are needed. But I guess there are better solutions for native desktop applications than http? CORBA - I have just heard about it, and it's old and complex. Not much talk about it these days. XMPP/Jabber - I have just heard about it and I don't know if it fits me at all. EJabberd seams to be a popular implementation. AMQP - I have just heard about it and I don't know if it fits me at all. RabbitMQ seams to be a popular implementation. Windows Communication Foundation, Java RMI, Java Message Service - but are they language independent? I guess some of these alternatives are on different levels, maybe I can have i.e xmpp or amqp in web sockets over https? What technologys are used for this problem in companies today? and what is recommended to use? I have no experience of them other than webservers and http. Please give me some guidance in this jungle. What are the pros and cons of these technologies in my situation?
