  I'm a Joomla newbie, and I'm trying to set up a site to require login access to certain articles. Simply setting the article's Access Level to Restricted makes it disappear rather than prompting for a login. I can't figure out how to make a login page because I can't find any menu items or documentation pertaining to mod_login. I want to set at least one page to require login access. Where do I start?

• Xen command xl doesn't create a vm but xend/xm does

  I'm a newbie to Xen, and I've recently installed Xen 4.2 by sources on my system. I've found a strange thing I've a VM when I start it via the command "xm create machine.cfg" all work fine, but if I use "xl create machine.cfg" it gives me the following error xc: error: panic: xc_dom_core.c:442: xc_dom_alloc_segment: segment ramdisk too large (0x4ba 0x2000 - 0x1bd9 pages): Out of memory libxl: error: libxl_dom.c:208:libxl__build_pv xc_dom_build_image failed: Invalid argument cannot (re-)build domain: -3 xenconsole: Could not read tty from store: No such file or directory What could be the problem? • Where does Chrome store its bookmarks in Ubuntu 11.10?

  I looked at all the other posts on this but can't find the directories mentioned (~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks, it's a JSON file.). Being a 2 day Newbie to Ubuntu/Linux I would like to know if the location has changed in the latest version or if not how I locate the directory indicated. I have logged in as root and searched for the folder and can't find it although I imported my bookmarks from a html file so I know that they must be saved somewhere.

I got locked out of my server a few times due to the enhanced security configuration I had done and when I contacted my server management company, they said both times that they flushed the firewall and I was allowed back in.   Is there anyone out there who has mastered to retrieve some data programmatically from Eloqua? First of all, I'm more or less a newbie, as far as JAVA. I can follow tutorials, take directions and will Google till my fingers bleed. I understand the basics and am slightly familiar with OOP. My main problem is that I have a Friday deadline (and tomorrow is Thanksgiving). At any rate, all the Eloqua code snippets (that I've been able to find) illustrate one aspect of a specific issue, and that's it. In my case, I would greatly appreciate a JAVA project of some sort, with all the necessary files to do web services (WSDL, SOAP and perhaps WSIT) and the main class and all that included. No, I don't want you to do my work for me! Just give me enough to find my way around, enter the information I need to retrieve and all that. I'll take it from there. Any pointers, links or suggestions?

• Display problem with fresh install of 12.04

  Just intalled Ubuntu 12.04 from CD and install went with no problems. After rebooting, I get the initial purple screen and then a black screen with mouse pointer and a few stray pixels at the bottom left of screen. Occasionally during the boot process, the purple screen comes back momentarily but then back to the black screen with the mouse pointer. When I finally give up and press the power button, the purple screen returns with the Shut Down box visible as it is shutting down. Any ideas? I have tried adding nomodeset after quiet splash, but no change. Possibly not doing it correctly, since I am somewhat of a newbie to linux. Thanks! Dan

• Second display running off laptop VGA not correctly positioned (offset left and up)

  I have black bars on the right and bottom of my display! I'm running my laptop's VGA output to an recognized as a It is 20", but the assumed 3" difference does not account for the incorrect position. Everything displays fine. It runs high-res video beautifully. But it's 3/4" offset left and an unreasonably annoying 1/4" offset up. I've tried going through the display's annoying & useless menu, but it doesn't have any way to adjust the position. I'm certainly no linux newbie, but on this Ubuntu (Pangolin, BTW) I can't figure out how to make simple positional display changes on Ubuntu. It's not only frustrating, it's a bit humiliating! So. Does anyone know of an app that will allow me to make basic display position alterations? ("App" - annoyingly trendy, but a useful word - no matter how grating.) Thanks, & Cheers, Paz

• Annoying mistake when create web template in SharePoint 2010

  I get the error    Error occurred in deployment step ‘Add Solution’: Exception from HRESULT: 0x8107026E when deploying my web template project. It turns out that your name for the Web template name has to match the name of you WebTemplate section in the element.xml file. Please see the screenshot below, the highlighted two needs to be the same. It took me so long to figure out and I will keep here in case everybody else struggle.   I'm a newbie researcher who's passion is programming languages (Web era). I'm wondering why all the Web frameworks and Web-based general purposes languages, have a huge number of dependencies when you want to install and then use (e.g., extend, alternate, etc.) their compilers. For example, Ruby on Rails or Scala. If I want to download their source code, and try to build it again, to me at least, feels like a can of worms. I have a MAC, so I need to install MACports, then update my XCode, then get the compiler source code that has bunch of other dependencies, then its hard to set things up; just to see the installed open-source compiler works fine.

  A quick search on monster.com on different scripting languages resulted on Perl having much more job opportunities than Python and Ruby (in Europe, I didn't check for the rest of the world), and since I'm just a newbie programmer I was wondering why is this? I've read everywhere that Python and Ruby are much better languages, and much more organized. Having coded in python and php myself, Perl's code seems so alien to me. Anyways, sorry for my poor English, it's my second language, and this is not a critique on the Perl language, I was just wondering whether it's a good idea to learn it at this point or not.

• MySQL fails to start after upgrade to 12.04?

  I'm a newbie on MySQL ground so bear with me. I've just finished upgrading 11.10 to 12.04. Everything seemed to work without any hiccups and all my software and settings are working fine. Apart from MySQL. When I try: sudo start mysql I receive an error: start: Job failed to start Where can I possibly diagnose what the problem is? And (hopefully) - how to sort it out? (I disabled automatic start following advice here if that is of some importance) Update 1: Both outputs of: cat /var/log/mysql.err cat /var/log/mysql.log are empty. Output of dmesg | grep mysql: [ 1401.785141] type=1400 audit(1335619832.181:25): apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace" name="/usr/sbin/mysqld" pid=16165 comm="apparmor_parser" [ 1401.791089] init: Failed to spawn mysql main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory Update 2: As indicated by AWinter below - it seemed that MySQL disappeared automagically after upgrade and had to be reinstalled.

As you know GAE handles a lot of web container security issues for you, also I will be using openID for authentication exclusively (sessions will be handled by provider). GAE supports SSL which will help with confidentiality and integrity maybe. Authorization can be done through filters. I know reinventing the wheel is a mess, but I was looking forward to learn something about security and implement that in my new app. so what the pros and cons of using a framework like shiro, spring security, jguard etc or filling the rest of gaps on my own ?

• Setting up SANED with sane-test

  I'm trying to setup a network service for running saned (running the sane-test backend) on Ubuntu 12.10, running it on a virtualbox. I followed the directions found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ScanningHowTo and i got to the point where if i use a front-end like xsane, or use the command scanimage -d test i get the desired behaviour. (i get the test image). But when i try to use the network demon to access the backend (from the localhost) i get Failed to connect. I used telnet on 127.0.0.1 6566 and i got the following error: saned: symbol lookup error: saned: undefined symbol: sanei_w_init I'm a linux newbie, so i could be making some stupid mistake. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks [update]After posting this question i logged out, logged back in and it worked. After a few days i tried again and it gave the same error as before. Any help?
