  • Sync clock on Windows XP machine to external (non-domain, non-workgroup) Windows Server 2008 R2 machine

    I have two machines and I'd like their clocks to be in sync for various reasons. Machine 1 is an XP machine located in the office. Machine 2 is a VPS hosted by a third party running Windows Server 2008 R2. These machines are not in any kind of workgroup or on a domain together. They are completely separate machines. Machine 2 is currently syncing once a week to time.windows.com. The clock on Machine 2 does seem to wander a bit within that week interval. What I would like to do is have Machine 1 set its clock based on the clock of Machine 2. I have tried configuring w32tm on the XP machine. This is what I used for configuration: w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"<ip address of machine 2>" However, whenever I issue the /resync command I get "The computer did not resync because no time data was available". I have made sure to start the windows time service on machine 2, and I have added firewall exceptions for UDP port 123. Is there something I need to configure on Machine 2 (other than just starting the time service) in order to get it to respond? Edit: I have also run w32tm /config /reliable:YES /update on Machine 2. I am still getting "The computer did not resync because no time data was available". Is there something else I'm missing?

  • transparently proxying a firewalled web application from a non-standard port to port 80

    I have a web application that serves on port 8088 on $server. However, the only port accessible from remote on $server is port 80. Furthermore, only CGI programs can execute on port 80. I would like to write a CGI program accessible via port 80 that allows one to use the web app running on port 8088. From my view, an ideal solution would be some sort of Java web browser that simply opened up a window and allowed me to use the program running on that port. The CGI program would simply initiate a web browser applet or something.   • tmux won't run as non root user?

    If I run tmux as root, it runs normally and fully functional. I created a couple users, and it will not run as any of the users. create session failed: : No such file or directory I checked the outside $TERM is xterm and inside $TERM is screen as FAQs suggest that is most common cause of problems. I've used tmux regularly on many different systems, but I on this VPS I can't figure out what's up... A little help, please? EDIT: strace output

  • Proper 16:9 video size for non-HD 4:3 video (for youtube/vimeo)

    Since High Definition video came out on all the online sites it has changed the default aspect ratio of the player from 4:3 to 16:9. This means that for people posting SD video you have to resize some of your videos to get them to fit right. For example, NTSC DVD quality (aka 480i/p) is 720x480 pixels (width x height). However, low-end High Definition (720i/p) is 1280x720. Anyway, now that the video players are built for HD you will find that uploading standard quality videos will result in videos that are "letter boxed" which means they have extra black bars on the top and bottom (or sides). Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to get a 720x480 video to fit a box that is designed for HD the best practice would be to crop some of it off so that it fits as 720x404 since: 16/9 = 1.78 (1.7777777777778) 720/405 = 1.78 405x1.78 = 720.9 The same would stand for 640x480 (old TV quality) video that would need to be 640x360 correct? I'm asking because I'm not sure about all this and whether this is the proper way to fix these letter-boxing/display problems.

  • trying to connect to non-standard port over esxi guest network

    I've got an exsi 5.5 box that has a redhat 6.5 guest and a win7 guest. The guest nics are connected on a vsphere standard switch. There is no connection from the vswitch to an outside physical nic. I can ping between the two boxes, each way. I can successfully psping redhat:22 from the win7 box. I can successfully tcping win7:139 from the redhat box. All firewalls are down on both boxes. I cannot connect from the win7 box to redhat:8003, either via psping redhat:8003, nor telnet redhat 8003, nor by the application client itself. sudo netstat -patn | grep 8003 on the redhat box shows that it's listening on 0.0.0.0. Any thoughts? suggestions?

  • Sharing Clipboard between non-networked PC's (KVM style)

    Hi! My situation is this: I have a PC which is joined to a domain, and another computer 'outside' that network. I'd like to use a KVM style device to switch between them, but sharing the clipboard would be fantastic. When searching for such a thing I found various patents for this type of thing (eg http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6901455.html) but can't see one actually for sale anywhere! Anyone know of one? Or an alternative suggestion - eg a program that uses USB or another method to connect two PC's and share clipboard without ethernet? Thanks!

  • windows 7 security settings for non-admins

    I was recently modifying the security settings for my drive C. I did not notice that i was logged in as a user and changed the permissions for users to "read". Later i realized that there was no admin set up on the pc (when switching user). Now with the security settings changed I can't do anything on the computer. I can only read the files that previously existed. And this applies to every drive on my computer. Now the user accounts do not have the privileges to change the permissions. How can i allow users to have full control without having admin on my pc

  • Citadel mail server software non-DIY alternatives

    I have ha VPS on webbynode with Citadel groupware suite installed, but I'm not so happy with It. I would like to try other alternatives. This is a VPS where I do tons of experiment so it's better for me to avoid any DIY solution if not extremely easy to reinstall. In fact I destroy and rebuild this VPS frequently. I just need a mail server, with spam filtering and web access. No goupware features needed. Please don't suggest me to pass through gmail. :) Could you provide me 2 or 3 alternatives?

  • Problems installing LYNC on non-domain controler

    I have two servers in this set up. AD and EX, the domain is called mydomain.net The AD is a Windows 2008 Server (32 bit) with Active Directory installed AD only has it's own ip in the DNS-servers list AD.mydomain.net does resolve correctly in the dns EX is a Windows 2008 R2 that is connected to the mydomain.net-domain EX only DNS server is the ip of the ad.mydomain.net There are no firewalls running between the two servers When trying to install Lync 2010 on the EX server I get the following error "Not available :Failure occurred attempting to check the schema state.Please ensure Active Directory is reachable." I can control the AD from EX, also login to it and do successful checks like netdom query /domain:mydomain.net fsmo ...that resolves correctly I suspect there is something fundamentally wrong with my setup, maybe Lync need a 2k8 R2 ad?

  • How to use private DNS to map private IP with "non registred" domain name

    I would like to use a private DNS (Route53 in our case) in order to map hosts to EC2 instance private IP addresse. The hosted zone we are using for testing is not declared in any registrar (company-test.com.). There are different servers (Nagios, Puppet, ActiveMQ ...) all hosted in ec2, that means their IP can change over time (restart, new instance launch...). That would be great if I can use DNS instead of clients' /etc/hosts for mapping private IP/internal domain name... The ActiveMQ server url is activemq.company-test.com and it maps to (A record) private IP address of the AMQ server. This url is only reachable by other ec2 owned by the same aws account. My question is how to configure ec2 instances so they could reach the ActiveMQ server WITHOUT having to buy a new domain company-test.com ?

Is it possible to get a good color network printer for under $200 that doesn't have those problems? I don't care if it's laser or inkjet; I don't print enough for the ink cost to matter.     I have the following: MAC PRO (Model Number: A1186) (PCIe - SLOTS) At present I am using the software RAID however I wish to move to the hardware raid because of the following: Performance (4 x 300gb SATA II in RAID 5) Redundancy (Raid 5, 1 drive can fail and system will be online) I do not wish to use the Apple RAID card (very expensive), I would like to use an aftermarket one which is cheaper. Questions: Does anyone have a WORKING aftermarket RAID card working in their MAC PRO (TOWER)? -(Have done some research, ROCKETRAID, need confirmation) If so to the above, does it work from boot?   • I'm receiving an SSL error in various browsers, but I can't find non-SSL content

    I'm receiving an error with my SSL connection. Using google chrome I see the following error: Your connection is encrypted with 128-bit encryption ... however this page includes other resources which are not secure I've scoured the source code, scripts and rendered code in the browser but cannot find where an http:// call is made. I've also used Fiddler2 to examine the traffic and everything is coming across via HTTPS. Has anyone run into this issue before and if so how did you go about finding the culprit. The website is running ASP.NET MVC3 in C#. The page in question is a simple payment page. The only external call is the google analytics tracking code. The page appears to load correctly, all images and scripts are in place.

  • Replacing all disks in a non-OS RAID 5 volume

    Hi all, We currently have a server with 8 x HDD slots. It is a HP DL380G5 with a P400 controller. 2 x HDD are in a RAID 1+0 config and this hosts the OS. 6 x HDD are in a RAID 5 config and holds an Oracle DB. Basically the RAID 5 volume is running out of space and we would like to swap all 6 with higher capacity disks. Excuse my ignorance as I am pretty new to this... I believe we will need to backup the data, delete the RAID volume, insert the new disks, recreate the volume, and restore the data. 2 questions: Do we need to worry about the OS partition or is it completely independent so we can simply take out the 6 and insert 6 new disks and get the controller to recognize the 6 new disks and form a new RAID 5 volume? We should not need to reinstall OS or Oracle correct? Since we are going to restore the data on the volume from another source (our vendor will take care of this) but we would like to keep the existing data on the 6 disks just in case we run into issues and want to fall back, is this possible?     I have a laptop that fails to boot with the BSOD error: "page_fault_in_non_paged_area" STOP: 0x00000050 (0xEC6B738D, 0x00000000, 0x8649308C, 0x00000000) The laptop has 2 memory DIMMs. I removed each DIMM one at a time and the error remained with just one DIMM installed. I have run spinrite 6.0 on the hard drive no errors found. Booted to recovery mode and ran CHKDSK /R, it found and fixed errors but still gets the stop error. Any other suggestions to try?

  • Non-Registry Fix for Secondary Mailboxes Sent Items

    There is a known issue with Outlook and Exchange where "secondary" mailboxes which are mounted in the same profile, e.g. "John Doe" + CorpMailbox1, CorpMailbox2, CorpMailbox3 will place "sent items" from the secondary mailboxes (e.g. CorpMailbox1) in the user's (e.g. "John Doe") Sent Items folder. There is a registry value (something like DelegateSentItems) to semi-fix this, but I'm looking for an Exchange-side solution. It seems like, at some point, an admin made CC rules to fix this, and for the mailboxes where I see a BCC rule: any item sent to [address] BCC to [address]. The behavior "fixes" the issue, but when I duplicate this work-around for new shared mailboxes, the email ends up in the Inbox and not the Sent Items for the shared mailbox. I don't believe there is any outlook/client-side shenanigans going on, as the intended behavior for the older mailboxes works for new PCs/Users (new imagse) without any Outlook Mailbox Rules.

    I have smtp auth set up on my exim4 Dqueeze server so that only auth'ed clients can use it as a mail relay. I believe this is working, e.g. thunderbird (w/out password) reports that I am "not yet authorised to send mail for X from Y". I also have greylistd installed, which I also see to be working. But I've noticed that when an unauthorised connection is made the error is temporarily rejected RCPT <[email protected]>: greylisted Should greylisting be taking effect here? Surely it should just be saying "go away, you're not authorised" rather than filling up a greylist queue?

  • Prevent audio recording applications from picking up non-microphone audio output

    When talking to people over Mumble/Teamspeak/Ventrilo, I have a few who are broadcasting all of their audio output (e.g. music playing in the background, game sounds, etc.) whenever they are sending -- in addition to the microphone signal. I don't have this problem myself, so it's hard for me to troubleshoot remotely, but I'm interested in collecting solutions for this problem for Windows XP, Vista and 7, so that I can link them to this question. Links to other related SU questions are highly welcome as well, but I couldn't find any. Most people seem to try to either get microphone to feed back into the audio output or turn exactly that off, which is different from this problem. I'm talking about the opposite problem, the output being fed into the input.
