  • Increase Volume of an MKV Video from Linux Terminal

    I've got a large amount of .MKV video files which seem to all play at a very low volume - I end up having to turn the TV up all the way to hear them, which is really irritating when I switch to another channel and wake the dead because it's so loud. What I'm looking for is a command-line method to increase the volume (so I can run it on all of them quickly) that would hopefully work regardless of the audio codec in use in the particular file. (I don't mind hard-coding the output audio though). For reference, I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on my server, and the files are being played back with Boxee on a Mac Mini, but the volume problem is the same on Windows too.

  • Automatic text replacement in Ubuntu.

    So, I'm looking for a software native to gnome that provides automatic text replacement. Something similar to autohotkey would be great, though I really don't care about all that extra autohotkey functionality. I'm just looking for text replacement that works seamlessly while I'm typing wherever I'm typing. I've heard that autohotkey runs on wine, but I'd really rather install something native to unix. Is there a software like this? Thanks

  • Information on the BMPP File Extension/Format

    I am looking for information on the file type BMPp. Namely I need an application that can create this file type, preferably open source or free. Wikipedia says for BMP File Format that 'BMPp' is a "type code", which is the "mechanism used by pre-OSX Macs ... to denote a files format..." (Look in the little info-box of general information under "Type code"). Continuing my research, I found an old 2009 archived mailing list "Re: Incorrect png file type 'PNG' that talks about something related to another problem a developer is having. In the response he talks about there being variant file types, and lists BMPp as being linked to an old version of Graphics Converter. The company Lemkesoft sells Graphics Converter, which I am not willing to purchase. I can't imagine that the only program in existence to make a BMPp file is that program. There has got to be another way to make that file type, other than creating a BMP file and just renaming it to BMPp (unless of course it is really that easy)? This is the first time I've run into this file format, and it took a bit on Google, Bing, and Wikipedia to find the information that I've posted here. Any further help would be appreciated.

  • How to convert text to decimal in openoffice calc?

    I have a column which contains: € 53,28 € 1.336,0 € 69,90 € 296,50 € 899,00 € 149,90 € 697,40 and so on. I want to sum the column up, but for openoffice it is text and not a decimal. What I did: =SUBSTITUTE(F7,".","") to get rid of the the dot |€ 1336,0| =SUBSTITUTE(G7,"€","") to get rid of the euro symbol | 1336,0| =RIGHT(H7, LEN(H7)-1) to get rid of the blank |1336,0| =SUBSTITUTE(I7,",",".") to change the comma to dots |1336.0| and after that I copy the whole column and paste it as "unformatted text" only after these steps I get a number with which openoffice can work. Isn't there an easier way???

  • Removing section in .sub file and renumber rest of lines?

    Here's the problem: An AVI file had a few seconds removed when it was ripped from a DVD, while its corresponding .sub subtitle file still contains the whole thing. So at around 2/3 into the movie, I need to remove the extra subtitles, and renumber the rest of the lines in the .sub files so that the remaining subtitles are displayed at the right time. I was hoping that SubTitle Workshop would be able to renumber the rest of the lines after I deleted the now-useless section, but it doesn't. What would be the easiest way to edit the sub file? Thank you.

  • How can I reorder parts of a video file

    I have download a mkv movie file which gave me 3 files suffixed .001, .002, and .003. When i join them together with different tools like winrar, 7zip, hjsplit, concatenated file shows only last 40 min/1.22 hrs of the total length of the movie. If I play all the (.001, .002, .003) parts with vlc player, I can see that .003 is the first part of the video and .001 is the last part. Can anyone tell me how can join this parts of movie with correct position or how I can convert .003 file into .001 file.

  • Vim: How to join multiples lines based on a pattern?

    I want to join multiple lines in a file based on a pattern that both lines share. This is my example: {101}{}{Apples} {102}{}{Eggs} {103}{}{Beans} {104}... ... {1101}{}{This is a fruit.} {1102}{}{These things are oval.} {1103}{}{You have to roast them.} {1104}... ... I want to join the lines {101}{}{Apples} and {1101}{}{This is a fruit.} to one line {101}{}{Apples}{1101}{}{This is a fruit.} for further processing. Same goes for the other lines. As you can see, both lines share the number 101, but I have no idea how to pull this off. Any Ideas? /EDIT: I found a "workaround": First, delete all preceding "{1" characters from group two in VISUAL BLOCK mode with C-V (or similar shortcut), then sort all lines by number with :%sort n, then join every second line with :let @q = "Jj" followed by 500@q. This works, but leaves me with {101}{}{Apples} 101}{}{This is a fruit.}. I would then need to add the missing characters "{1" in each line, not quite what I want. Any help appreciated.

  • What is a good "free-form" ("type anywhere" or canvas-like) text editor? [on hold]

    My 5-1/2 y.o. son is starting to use a computer and one of the things he likes to do is to type stuff into an editor. He has used TuxPaint before and is familiar with the idea of a "canvas" for painting stuff (where painting anything anywhere on the canvas is fair game). When he opened the text editor (this was gedit on Qimo Linux), he attempted to do the same thing -- he pointed the text cursor to an arbitrary location within the editor window and expected to be able to type there (like a "text canvas", if you will). I had to explain to him that he would have to press Enter a few times to create new lines, as well as press Space a few times to create columns before he could do that. This is sub-optimal. My question: are there any free-form, canvas-like text editors that I can have him use? Almost like hex editors of yore. I am not interested in getting him to create "text areas" in a paint program.

    In sublime text if I perform a find for an occurrence of a particular word not only is this occurrence found but it also selected and has the cursor at the end of each occurrence so that pushing the right arrow key the cursor will move the cursor to the beginning of each occurrence simultaneously so that I can perform whatever operation I wish on all the selections. Does notepad++ have something similar to this feature? I know that I can multi-line select by Ctrl+ mouse click, but I just wanting to know of an automated so to speak way of doing this in notepad++

  • Image annotation with Inkscape, Pointer and explanation for objects in picture

    I need straight paths with end markers for associating text to parts of the image. For better readability, it needs to be high-contrast, i.e. a white line with black outline. Stroke to path will create a group of a box and a circle from the line with end marker. This makes placement of the markers more difficult, as with the node tool it is just a matter of dragging the end nodes of a line segment. I will try to place the markers as line for now and only finally converting them to an outline.

    When viewing a particular text file in vim or less on Linux or OS X, all the en dashes show up as highlighted "<97" characters. What control-sequence do I need to type in order to substitute the hyphens back? For example, the following doesn't work in vim: % s/<97>/--/g Typing bracket nine seven bracket is not the same as typing the actual special character.

  • How can I determine if an image has loaded, using Javascript/jQuery?

    I'm writing some Javascript to resize the large image to fit into the user's browser window. (I don't control the size of the source images unfortunately.) So something like this would be in the HTML: <img id="photo" src="a_really_big_file.jpg" alt="this is some alt text" title="this is some title text" /> Is there a way for me to determine if the src image in an img tag has been downloaded? I need this because I'm running into a problem if $(document).ready() is executed before the browser has loaded the image. $("#photo").width() and $("#photo").height() will return the size of the placeholder (the alt text). In my case this is something like 134 x 20. Right now I'm just checking if the photo's height is less than 150, and assuming that if so it is just alt text. But this is quite a hack, and it would break if a photo is less than 150 pixels tall (not likely in my particular case), or if the alt text is more than 150 pixels tall (could possibly happen on a small browser window).     I have started doing asp.net mvc programming and like it more everyday. Most of the examples I have seen use separate views for viewing and editing details of a specific entity. E.g. - table of music albums linking to separate 'detail' and 'update' views [Action] | Title | Artist detail, update | Uuuh Baby | Barry White detail, update | Mr Mojo | Barry White With mvc how can I achieve a design where the R and the U (CRUD) are represented in a single view, and furthermore where the user can edit separate parts of the view, thus limiting the amount of data the user can edit before saving? Example mockup - editing album detials: I have achieved such a design with ajax calls, but Im curious how to do this without ajax. Parts of my own take on this can be seen below. I use a flag (enum EditCode) indicating which part of the view, if any, that has to render a form. Is such a design in accordance with the framework, could it be done more elegantly? Now I update the data in fb:dialog and want this update to be reflected the next time I update/call the dialog box.   • Error editing a blob field in ArcGIS Engine

    I have a GIS layer backed by a MSSQL db. The features on the layer have, say, one field of type esriFieldTypeString and one of type esriFieldTypeBlob. I can edit the string field just fine, but, when I try to edit a blob, StopEditOperation() throws a very generic exception (message: "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.", error code: -2147467259). I couldn't find anything related in the server log. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
