• Use external speakers with laptop hooked to separate monitor?

  I have a laptop with a set of external speakers hooked up to it on my computer desk. The speakers use the standard 3.5mm audio (headphones) jack. The speakers work fine, but I've recently added a separate monitor to my laptop via HDMI. With the monitor hooked up to my laptop and the speakers still hooked up to the laptop, sound will only come out of the built-in monitor speakers. When I look at my audio settings, there are three different "audio playback devices" showing up, but only the built-in monitor speakers make noise when I click "test" (and I hear nothing when I set any of the other devices as the default. Does anyone know how I can still use my external speakers when using a separate monitor with my laptop? I'm hoping there is a solution that doesn't require the laptop to be open or closed, because I use both scenarios. I came across this post, but it doesn't look like they had much luck.

  I am planning to buy laptop for parts/repair from Ebay to replace by broken LCD of Compaq presario v2000 . I know the monitor is 14" WXGA and LTNW140-l01 model made by samsung . I have removed the LCD panel and I can see 2 cables , one power and other video signal Can I buy a 14.1" LAPTOP and fit to this ? 14.1 WXGA seems very common . Please can any one tell which all laptops can replace this monitor ? I know HP DV 1000 does ? Any advices would be great .

• Multi screens are not aligning properly

  I am using (4) Samsung (SMB2230) screens. When I place my mouse on the first screen at the bottom right and pull it into the second screen the mouse jumps to the middle on the left of the second screen. Then it does the same on the 3rd and 4th screens. The biggest jump is between the 1st and 2nd then it tightens up between 2 and 3 then close between 3 and 4. This is a really pain because my mouse gets hung up and I have to move up and down to get it to change screens.I had (4) Dells screens before and this didn't happen. I'm using Windows 7

• Can I prevent tv-out from disconnecting when monitor sleeps?

I like to put on music on my TV, but the problem is when my monitor goes to sleep back in my office, it switches off the hdmi connection completely and the audio goes back to my PC.   I saw some answers to this question however they were fairly old (at least 2 years) and primarily for Vista or previous Windows OS versions. My question is this: Is there a program that allows a single Windows 7 computer to have multiple users (2 needed) and allow for two mice and two keyboards on two screens. What I'm trying to achieve: I'd like for the ability to play a game on one monitor while another person surfs the web, uses a program, or possibly play a different game. Any ideas?

• Bad resolution from Displayport converter on third of three screens

  I am currently using three screens at the same time with my ATI 5770 & an active Displayport converter. The thing is that the third screen (the one using the active Displayport converter) is showing terrible resolution compared to my other two screens. The third screen is a Samsung Syncmaster P23. Two of my screens have a max resolution of 1920x1080, meanwhile the third on is only capable of 1600x1200. Do any of you know a solution to this problem?

  I've just installed a new monitor on my macbook, and I noticed that the menu bar only appears on one screen or the other - I have to haul over to whichever screen has the menu if I'm using the other one, and it's a pretty frustrating process. Does anyone know if there's a setting or utility that lets you display the menu bar on both screens?

  I'm having the issue where the Windows 8 Start Menu shows up on the secondary monitor instead of the primary. When booting the machine the start menu appears originally on the primary screen as it should. Sometime during the course of the day the menu starts appearing on the secondary monitor instead of the primary.   I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 x64 on a Lenovo ThinkPad R500, with an external monitor attached. If I configure extended desktop, everything works fine. The settings look like this: After a reboot, these settings are reset and both screens are mirrored. The settings look like this: I had my extended desktop working just fine under Ubuntu/GNOME, so I'm assuming there's something different about how KDE handles this config, I just can't seem to find the answer. • Stick floating eclipse windows on second screen with Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks

  When working with eclipse, I'm used to have a floating window with the console and other views on my secondary monitor. Since the update to OSX 10.9 (Mavericks), I still can drag the floating window to the secondary screen, but it keeps popping back to the main monitor when e.g. changing the perspective - which is really annoying. This did not happen with Mac OS 10.8. Is there a way that the floating windows of eclipse stay on the secondary monitor?

  Hi, I have 1 VGA socket on my laptop, and currently have that in use by a large screen. At some point in the future I would like to get another one of these screens and use both screens in dual screen mode but not use my laptop display (to be honest my laptop display is pretty rubbish as its like 2/3s the size of my screen - even if I had the choice to use all 3 I probably wouldn't want to). • Disable laptop's display on boot when used with external display

  I keep my laptop tucked away and solely use an external display with it via HDMI. In Windows 7 display settings, I have it set up to "Show desktop only on 2 [my external display]" This works fine in all cases except when I boot the laptop when the external display is already connected. In that case, the laptop's display stays on and sticks at the Windows 7 boot logo unless I manually shut the display off. (I should mention that while the laptop's display is stuck at the boot logo, the external monitor and computer are running just fine.) The laptop is an Asus N56VZ with Nvidia 650m graphics and the latest drivers. I've checked Nvidia's control panel as well as the BIOS and nothing looked very promising. Any ideas as to how I can get my laptop screen to shut itself off after booting into Windows?

• How to get monitor resolution of 1680x1050 using ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO in a dual monitor setup

  I have Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics card in my Windows Server 2008 x64 machine. It has two outputs a VGA and a DVI. I have connected the DVI to my Dell 24" monitor with 1900x1200 resolution and it works 100%. The VGA I have connected to my second monitor a Samsung 22" with native resolution of 1680x1050. But the ATI driver and Catalyst control centre doesn't show this resolution as an option. If I choose a lower resolution like 1280x1024 it looks really bad and fuzzy. I searched in google and downloaded the powerstrip tool that allowed me to create a custom resolution of 1680x1050 and then this option shows up in Catalyst control centre and my 2nd monitor works fine now. But I don't want to pay for an application to choose a display resolution. Why doesn't ATI show me that option by default even though it has no problem in actually supporting the display at resolution. Is there a way to get 1680x1050 resolution using ATI drivers only ?

  I have a new 32" TV that I hooked up to the HDMI port on the back of my video card to use as a second monitor. I used an HDMI/DVI cable to hook it to the TV, and whenever I turn my TV off, XP disables the device tied to the TV so each time I want to use the TV as the monitor, I have to go into my display properties and enable it; it gets pretty annoying. How do I turn this 'feature' off? -- I have an NVidia card should it be specific to the nvidia control panel.

• Sony Bravia KDL-32L5000 PC resolution slightly off.

  Hi, I have a PC running two Nvidia 8500 GTs in SLI mode and I am trying to use my TV in dual mode. When I switch the TV to PC the screen is nearly centered with a slight offset. All resolutions are effected from 800x600 all the way up to the TVs native 1360x768. I have tried with SLI on and off and have PhysX turned off as well as I thought that might have an effect. I am running Windows XP 64-bit SP2 DirectX ver 9.0c Nvidia driver version 181.22 Any other information please let me know. Thanks in advance.

I know older video cards you could only have 2 active displays, but I heard that barrier was defeated with the Display-Port series video cards.
