• Remote Computer renting (moving my desktop to the cloud)

  I would like to rent a remote computer, like a virtual Vista or Windows 7 desktop, and run everything on it and access it with RDP (fastest). It could be virtual (running on Xen or Hyper-V) and the price needs to be right. Windows 7 to Windows 7 has nice RDP offload feature and doing stuff in the cloud is fast. Anywhere I could rent something like that? I've been using Amazon and CloudLayer, but they are optimized for server versions of Windows.

• xml file save/read error (making a highscore system for XNA game)

  i get an error after i write player name to the file for second or third time (An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Xml.dll Additional information: There is an error in XML document (18, 17).) • HTML5 Drag n Drop File Upload

  I'm running a website, where I'd like yo upload files with Drag 'n Drop, using HTML5's File Api and FileReader API. I have successfully managed to create a new FileReader, but I don't know how to upload the file. • What file format can I use to output a formatted text file straight from a program without having the markup be too complicated?

  Premise: I am parsing a file that is quite nearly XML, but not quite. From this file I would like to extract data and output in a file that a user could open up in some program and read. To make the data reasonable, I would almost certainly need to format the text. In case it matters, I will probably be using Java to write the program. Problem: I cannot find a file format that supports formatting without having terribly complex rules and encoding problems. Attempts: I looked into a basic .txt extension first, but it does not have enough formatting advantage. I then tried a .rtf extension, but the rules for outputting text seem to be terribly complicated. It was then suggested that I used XML, but I do not understand how this file would be viewed. This appears to be probably the best solution, but I don't understand much about it. Perhaps somebody could shed some light here. In Other Words: Could somebody suggest and easy to use file format and/or shed some light on how to use XML for text formatting and viewing?

• Cisco Unifed Communication integration for Microsoft Lync crashes on Remote Desktop services 2008 R2!

• Ant Copy Task: Failed to copy due to java.io.FileNotFoundException

  I'm trying to compile a Flex application in Ant (no problems here, I can do it fine). When I try to publish the contents of the project to a Windows network drive (known as "Z:\" on my system), I get the following LAME exception thrown by Java/Ant: BUILD FAILED C:\workspace\bkeller\build.xml:42: Failed to copy C:\workspace\bkeller\web\assets\text\biography.html to Z:\web\bkeller\assets\text\biography.html due to java.io.FileNotFoundException Z:\web\bkeller\assets\text\biography.html (The system cannot find the file specified) Which kind of sucks. I can't find any way to get rid of this problem and it's pretty crucial to my project that I get this working. I know for sure that I have read/write/execute permissions on the network drive, I can create/edit/delete files on the drive just fine through Windows explorer. Drive Z is a network mount to virtualbox, allowing me to get access to my host OS, Ubuntu. I've double checked that it has write permissions. Any ideas?

As it turns out the original answer wasn't definitive and problems were found. ======================================================================= In my app, I access my sqlite database at the following hard-coded location in my code: /data/data/com.mydomain.appname/databases/database.db If I turn ON copy protection in the Market Place, will my app still have access to this location? Or will I have to change it to something like: */data-private/*data/com.mydomain.appname/databases/database.db (or something like this) Since I have a Dev phone only, I have no way of testing to see if my app still functions normally after turning on copy protection. And this script is basically supposed to take a source folder and destination folder as basically just make sure that the destination folder has the exact same content as the source folder. But only copy if the datemodified stamp of the source file is newer than the destination file. I have been thinking out this basic pseudo code, just trying to make sure this is valid and solid basically.   Oracle R Enterprise graphics are returned as raster, or bitmap graphics. Raster images consist of tiny squares of color information referred to as pixels that form points of color to create a complete image. Plots that contain raster images render quickly in R and create small, high-quality exported image files in a wide variety of formats. However, it is a known issue that the rendering of raster images can be problematic when creating graphics using a Remote Desktop connection. Raster images do not display in the windows device using Remote Desktop under the default settings. This happens because Remote Desktop restricts the number of colors when connecting to a Windows machine to 16 bits per pixel, and interpolating raster graphics requires many colors, at least 32 bits per pixel.. For example, this simple embedded R image plot will be returned in a raster-based format using a standalone Windows machine:  R> library(ORE) R> ore.connect(user="rquser", sid="orcl", host="localhost", password="rquser", all=TRUE)  R> ore.doEval(function() image(volcano, col=terrain.colors(30))) Here, we first load the ORE packages and connect to the database instance using database login credentials. The ore.doEval function executes the R code within the database embedded R engine and returns the image back to the client R session. Over a Remote Desktop connection under the default settings, this graph will appear blank due to the restricted number of colors. Users who encounter this issue have two options to display ORE graphics over Remote Desktop: either raise Remote Desktop's Color Depth or direct the plot output to an alternate device. Option #1: Raise Remote Desktop Color Depth setting In a Remote Desktop session, all environment variables, including display variables determining Color Depth, are determined by the RCP-Tcp connection settings. For example, users can reduce the Color Depth when connecting over a slow connection. The different settings are 15 bits, 16 bits, 24 bits, or 32 bits per pixel. To raise the Remote Desktop color depth: On the Windows server, launch Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration from the Accessories menu.Under Connections, right click on RDP-Tcp and select Properties.On the Client Settings tab either uncheck LimitMaximum Color Depth or set it to 32 bits per pixel. • Bypassing Windows Copy design

  I have been trying to figure out a way to streamline copying files from one drive (network or external in my case) to my main system drives. Short of creating a program that I will have to activate each time then choosing all the info in it, I have no really good design to bypass it. I have been wondering if there was a way to intercept a straight-forward windows copy with a program to do it my way. The basic design would be that upon grabbing the copy (actually for this to be efficient, a group of different copies), the program would organize all the separate copies into a single stream of copies. I've been wanting to do this as recently I have been needing to make backups of a lot of data and move it a lot as all my drives seem to be failing the past few months.

But the above code is not doing that. When I change something in 'dum', the same change is happening in 'dumtwo' also. I guess, when I say dumtwo = dum, Java copies the reference only. So, is there any way to create a fresh copy of 'dum' and assign it to 'dumtwo' ?

  Hello. I have a folder on a server which is shared with guest access enabled. I want to be able to copy a file from that folder to a local machine with Applescript. So far I have: property source : "server:sharedfolder:file.ext" property destination : "Macintosh HD:Users:User:Documents:Folder" tell application "Finder" copy file "source" to folder "destination" end tell Which I think should work. But I get the error :Can't set folder source to destination number 10006. Any ideas? Thanks.

  I'm starting a conversion of a system from MS SQL Server to Postgres. I have the table structures converted, and I use "bcp" to get the data out of SQL Server. ERROR: invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x80 HINT: This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match the encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by "client_encoding". CONTEXT: COPY cm_outgoing, line 200: "200 c:\temp\200.xml 2009-10-10 01:50:44.000 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000" I've already used "sed" to get rid of the NUL (0x00) entries in the file, and I can't find any instances of 0x80 in the file that I'm trying to import. Any thoughts? Is there an easier way?

• ctrl-c does not copy text on a webpage

  I've come across this several times, ctrl-c randomly does not copy. I think it's caused by javascript or maybe some odd html syntax. I never spent the time to track down what caused it. Anyone know the typical/common causes of ctrl-c not working (to copy) on a website? Speaking from a developers standpoint. What do we developers end up doing to break ctrl-c? Just to clarify, I'm not interested in preventing copying. I'm trying to do the opposite, occasionally I find I've done something that is preventing ctrl-c from copying text, and that is not very user friendly on a text heavy site.

I tried to copy only the new records from the remote_table by this query: SELECT * FROM [remote_DB].[LudanProjectManager].[dbo].Remote_table EXCEPT SELECT * FROM My_table It works OK but I get a duplicate primary key exception when changes have been made on the remote_table on the hours column. Can anyone think of a way to copy only the new records from remote_table and if changes has been made on old records, to identify them and update the my_table to correspond?
