• Installing a bundled set of multiple apps automatically and silently

  Hi all, When I install Windows, I like to deploy a set of the same apps (for example, Firefox, Chrome, Trillian, 7-Zip, etc.). I'd prefer to have a way of doing it all in one sitting, and I seem to remember there being a way of bundling all the installers. I was able to find two, though neither of them (Almeza MultiSet, WPIW) look like what I was thinking of. Can anyone recommend other ways of running a whole set of installers at once? Thanks!   I would like to set all virtualhosts on my server down for maintenance for some time. The temporary page should contain something like sorry, the page www.xxx.com is down for maintenance. you can see the cached version here: Then the trick: the user should then see the cached page from a cache like googlecache or similar for the requested page as long as the server is down. This would show the correct content on pages, that are static anyway and give the visitor the needed content in many cases, while I can shut down mysql and other services that would usually be needed to show that pages. How can I set a global page on all virtualhosts, that parses the original requested URL through PHP?

• Set Default Program for All Users on Server

  I work with a large server environment that's running Windows Server 2003, 2008, and 2012 now on some boxes. We have a custom-built log viewer program that associates with two file types that I'd like to set to be the default program for all users across all boxes, so new users don't have to set the default program themselves on every box they log into. Ideally I'd like to have a simple registry script we could push out to all machines at once. I realize this likely means changing the registry entries for either HKCR or HKLM for the file extensions, but adding the program location with %1 extension to \shell\open\command value in HKLM simply opens the program and does not also load the log file. Am I just missing an open and play setting, or am I looking at this entirely wrong? (And I know the script will need to be different for 2003 and 2008, but changing the version for two scripts isn't hard) Thanks!

  I'm fairly new to Word 2007. (Coming more from a Linux/text editor background.) Each time I create a document within Word 2007, I add a set of details to the start of the document. It's the same set of details each time -- Author, Date Created, Date Last Modified, and Status, formatted in the same way each time. I include these bits of information either by inserting Fields (Insert -> Quick Parts -> Insert Field) or Document Properties (Insert -> Quick Parts -> Document Properties -> ...). I'm just wondering how I would go about setting up a macro or a template or something along those lines to insert this information automatically, either by a keypress in an existing document, or each time I start a new document.

  Is it possible to set internet explorer as default browser from command line? I have a web application that runs only under ie but if it happens that firefox is the default one, it doesn't work. Users are in a domain environment and even though I try to launch our application from a batch in this way start "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://server_ip/home_page my app doesn't start unless I change the browser manually. Moreover I'd like to know if it's possible to set some policy on a domain to prevent that users with limited privileges could change the default browser. Thanks in advance.

• Set Microsoft Word template to always save documents based on it to a certain location

  Some of my professors demand very specific formats for papers typed up for their courses. I've created word templates (.dotx files) for these, so I don't have to set up the formatting each time I go to write something. I already have a template for each of my classes, and have my files organized such that each class has its own directory. I would like to be able to specify a default save location for each template. I know how to set the general default save location for all documents, but I want to change it just for a specific template. Even if there were a way to have it save files generated by the template into the folder the template file resides in, that would be nice. Anybody have any ideas?

But we have scripts that use mailx which cannot be re-written to use any extra flags, so I'd like to use internal variables instead, which I see on the linux.die.net manpage on mailx is an alternative to the -r flag: -r address Sets the From address. Overrides any from variable specified in environment or startup files. Tilde escapes are disabled. The -r address options are passed to the mail transfer agent unless SMTP is used.   I'm tired of the multi-step process to set my preferred folder options on every server to which I log on (Mostly Win2008, but also some 2012 and Win7 here and there). I'd love to be able to script the process, but unfortunately, I can't find any commands or extensions to do so for folder options. There are several settings I'd like to change, but in particular, I'd like to set "Hide file extensions for known file types" to false. I figure that if I can do that, I'll be able to manage any additional settings on my own. Methods that work on the vanilla command line would be preferred, but if there are commands in PowerShell, I'll use that.

• Exchange 2007 - One server set-up

  I'm trying to set up Exchange 2007 with just one server (not the Transport + Hub configuration, just a Hub). I installed the server with the Hub Role, and it's not accepting SMTP. I changed SMTP so that it relays all emails (it's just an internal server for only internal mails). When I send to username@mydomain in OCW, it works fine. When I send to the same email address via SMTP, it goes to the badmail folder. What did I miss in the Hub set-up?

• Using Apache Environment Variables to set custom ErrorDocument

  I've got a set of RewriteCond rules that test for various mobile devices and then set environment variables like "env=device:.iphone" or "env=device:.smartphone" if the useragent matches an iPhone or Android device. I'm trying to now redirect the user to custom-styled 404/500 server error pages for each device, by way of the error pages. Ideally I'd like to be able to test for a variable being there, and then write in a custom ErrorDocument string. But an apache doesn't seem to work in this case. Any ideas how I can construct if/else tests in an apache conf file for environment vars?

• Apache only logs PHP errors if LogLevel is set to debug

  I'm developing a CodeIgniter application and for reasons that I do not fully understand errors have stopped being logged in the file specified in the Apache site conf. The page I'm testing is definitely generating a 500 error, but that is not reflected in the logs unless I set LogLevel debug. Setting LogLevel to error or warn results in no errors being logged. I don't think this is a CI issue because I've been developing this site for close to a week now and errors have been logged as expected until I picked the project up again this morning. Though for what it's worth, I've got: error_reporting(E_ALL); set in my index.php.

• Unable to set NTFS permissions for ApplicationPoolIdentity on Windows 2008 SP2

  On Windows 2008 R2 I am able to set NTFS permissions for an application pool's synthesised ApplicationPoolIdentity account thus: ICACLS d:\websites\site1\www /grant "IIS AppPool\site1":(CI)(OI)(M) The website's application pool is named site1 and is configured to run as ApplicationPoolIdentity. The site's authentication is also configured to authenticate as ApplicationPoolIdentity. I've done this a thousand times on Windows 2008 Standard Edition R2 with never a hitch. However if I try to do the same in Windows 2008 Standard Edition SP2 I get the error: IIS AppPool\site1: No mapping between account names and security IDs was done. Successfully processed 0 files; Failed processing 1 files I also notice that this fails if I try to set permissions for the application pool identity via the security GUI as well. I've seen this before and a reboot has cleared this issue but I'd like to know why this happens periodically. Googling around suggests other folks have hit this problem but there's never a satisfactory explanation. Why would this be?

  I currently have a machine set up to operate with two domains. The main name uses the standard Unix-user delivery, and the second domain is entirely virtual (using virtual_alias_domains and virtual_alias_maps), with the second domain only forwarding mail. However, when mail is forwarded, it still appears to be delivered by the host of the primary domain (presumably set by myorigin.) Is it possible to get it so when mail is forwarded to the virtual domain, it appears to be delivered by it as well? That domain is on another IP and I'd like to use it so the mail stays consistent. • Certain drives in RAID 5 set intermittently are not recognized

  I have a curious problem in that 1 (sometimes 2) drives do not get recognized in a RAID 5 set. The server is getting rather old at 5 to 6 years, but still seems to function well once the machine sees all drives. So that leaves me with three areas to consider: the motherboard, the SATA RAID card, or the individual hard drives themselves. I am leaning toward the RAID card, but have not had much dealings with RAID cards. What would cause individual drives not to be recognized in the set? If it was the card, I would think that it would be all or nothing. If it were a single drive, is it possible that it would only work sometimes? The only other thing to consider is that that they are different drives (Seagate and Western Digital) but all around 80 GB. SATA RAID controller is 3ware Escalade 8506-4LP Motherboard is a SuperMicro P4SPA+ Am open and available for more details if needed...

• Set 802.1Q tagged port on VLAN1 on Dell PowerConnect switch

  I'm having big troubles when adding this Dell switch to my network. Here we use several VLANs to segment traffic. All switches (3com and DLink mostly) have configured the same VLANs, most ports are 'untagged' and belong to a single VLAN, except for the ports used to join together the switches (in a star topology), these ports belong to all VLANs and use 802.1Q tags. So far, it works really well. But on this new switch (a Dell PowerConnect 5448), the settings are very different (and confusing). I have configured the same VLANs, an the uplink ports are set in 'general' mode (supposed to be fully 802.1Q compliant), I can set the VLAN membership as 'T' on these ports for all VLANs except VLAN 1. It always stay as 'U' on VLAN 1. Any ideas?

  On a macbook air (MacOS X 10.6.5), when doing skype calls people are complaining they hear me very low - so I had a look to the system preferences under audio and noticed the input volume was 54%. I am now trying to set the input volume to 100%. To my surprise the volume is gradually set back as I speak. I tried deselecting 'use ambient noise reduction' but it doesn't help.' Is there any way to avoid this volume auto-setting feature? Any help appreciated!

So i have addded a new zone called hello.com and checked SOA server (P) is one.hello.local. then added a new host called one, full name is one.hello.com, ip address 192.168.7.3(my address in router) and then add a alias(CNAME) www, full name is www.hello.com, FQDN i choose the host i added before (one.hello.com) i expected that when i type the public ip in browser, can it be changed to domain name automatically. if not set host value www.hello.com, use public ip i can see the web however, after set up host value www.hello.com, browser show bad request invalid hostname

  I'm new to qmail it's setup and working like it should. I need to set it to do something a bit different. I need it to take all mail that would be incoming to it and relay all of that to one address as opposed to whatever address they could have possibly set it to. The idea is we have setup a test enviroment and we want no e-mails from a test server to actually go out to real people so this relay server will catch all of that outgoing mail and throw it into a test e-mail account inbox to check for errors and so forth. I'm honestly not sure if this is even possible so if it's not let me know now so I can come up with a different method to manage all these test e-mails. Thanks

  I frequently work in different locations, and need to have a virtualbox version of Ubuntu server running locally. While I was at home getting it set up, I was able to ssh into the server using the locally allocated IP address. However, now that I'm elsewhere, ifconfig is still showing the old 10.0.x.x ip address, but instead of being in the 10.0.x.x space, my laptop's ip starts with 192.168.x.x With that in mind, if there a straightforward way to set up the virtual box Ubuntu server in such a way that I can just connect using "ssh servername" regardless of it's ip address?
