  • C#, weird optimization

    - by Snake
Hi, I'm trying to read my compiled C# code. this is my code: using(OleDbCommand insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("...", connection)) { // do super stuff } But! We all know that a using gets translated to this: { OleDbCommand insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("...", connection) try { //do super stuff } finally { if(insertCommand != null) ((IDisposable)insertCommand).Dispose(); } } (since OleDbCommand is a reference type). But when I decompile my assembly (compiled with .NET 2.0) I get this in Resharper: try { insertCommand = new OleDbCommand("", connection); Label_0017: try { //do super stuff } finally { Label_0111: if ((insertCommand == null) != null) { goto Label_0122; } insertCommand.Dispose(); Label_0122:; } I'm talking about this line: if ((insertCommand == null) != null). True is not null, it never is, nor is false. So how is my object disposed properly? WTF? Thanks! -Kristof

  • changing text color in custom UITableViewCell iphone

    - by Brodie4598
Hello. I have a custom cell and when the user selects that cell, I would like the text in the two UILabels to change to light gray. • viewDidLoad never called in Sub-classed UIViewController

    - by Steve
I've run into some trouble with loading a sub-classed UIViewController from a nib. My viewDidLoad function is never called. The super-class has no nib, but the sub-classes each have their own. i.e. @interface SuperClass : UIViewController { } @end @interface SubClass : SuperClass{ } @end @implementation SubClass - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad{ // Never called } The view is loaded from a nib as follows: SubClass *scvc = [[SubClass alloc] initWithNibName:@"SubClass" bundle:nil]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:scvc animated:YES]; [scvc release]; There is a nib file with this name and it has it's file owner's class set properly. viewDidLoad is not called in the child or super. Any ideas?

  • Java generics SuppressWarnings("unchecked") mystery

    - by Johannes Ernst
    Why does code alternative(1) compile without warnings, and code alternative(2) produce an "unchecked cast" warning? Common for both: class Foo<T> { Foo( T [] arg ) { } } Alternative (1): class Bar<T> extends Foo<T> { protected static final Object [] EMPTY_ARRAY = {}; @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") Bar() { super( (T []) EMPTY_ARRAY ); } } Alternative (2): class Bar<T> extends Foo<T> { @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") Bar() { super( (T []) EMPTY_ARRAY ); } protected static final Object [] EMPTY_ARRAY = {}; } Alternative (2) produces: javac -Xlint:unchecked Foo.java Bar.java Bar.java:4: warning: [unchecked] unchecked cast super( (T []) EMPTY_ARRAY ); ^ required: T[] found: Object[] where T is a type-variable: T extends Object declared in class Bar 1 warning This is: java version "1.7.0_07" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_07-b10) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.3-b01, mixed mode)

  • iPhone: should initWithNibName:bundle: method be deleted from UIViewController class if not used?

    - by Scott Pendleton
I notice that this method is provided in UIViewController .m files, but is commented out: - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil I had been leaving that method commented out, or even deleting it. But then I looked at this line inside the method: if (self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]) I assume that if it were truly important for self to be set equal to super, then Apple would not have the method be commented out by default. On the other hand, if I do need to do some customization in that method, why do I need to set self = super? What's the best practice, and why?

  • Naming suggestions for a function returning parent prototype

    - by hevalbaranov
I'm having a naming trouble with a function which returns parent prototype of specified object. It's being used like this: # Pseudo Code MyClass { super(MyClass,this).constructor.call(.... The problem is that I want to use a word which is as superior as "super", but "super" is reserved even it's undefined. Now I'm using "parent", but the window object has a property named parent. I hate Javascript. What should I name this function? Names have to start with lowercase and have to be short.

  • Android 2.1: Muliple Handlers in a Single Activity

    - by Soumya Simanta
    Hi, I've more than one Handlers in an Activity. I create all the handlers in the onCreate() of the main activity. My understanding is the handlerMessage() method of each handler will never be called at the same time because all messages are put in the same queue (the Activity thread MessageQueue). Therefore, they will be executed in the order in which are put into the Queue. They will also be executed in the main activity thread. Is this correct ? public void onCreate() { this.handler1 = new Handler() { @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { //operation 1 : some operation with instanceVariable1 super.handleMessage(msg); } }; this.handler2 = new Handler() { @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { //Operation 2: some operation with instanceVariable1 super.handleMessage(msg); } }; this.handler3 = new Handler() { @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { //Operation 3: some operation with instanceVariable1 super.handleMessage(msg); } }; }

  • ActionScript: Determine wether superclass implements a particular interface?

    - by David Wolever
Is there any non-hacky way to determine wether a class' superclass implements a particular interface? For example, assume I've got: class A extends EventDispatcher implements StuffHolder { private var myStuff = someKindOfStuff; public function getStuff():Array { if (super is StuffHolder) // <<< this doesn't work return super['getStuff']().concat([myStuf]); return [myStuff]; } class B extends A { private var myStuff = anotherKindOfStuff; } How could I perform that super is StuffHolder test in a way that, well, works? In this case, it always returns true.

  • static setter method injection in Spring

  • Android: make a scrollable custom view

    - by Martyn
Hey, I've rolled my own custom view and can draw to the screen alright, but what I'd really like to do is set the measuredHeigh of the screen to, say, 1000px and let the user scroll on the Y axis, but I'm having problems doing this. Can anyone help? Here's some code: public class TestScreen extends Activity { CustomDrawableView mCustomDrawableView; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); mCustomDrawableView = new CustomDrawableView(this); setContentView(mCustomDrawableView); } } and public class CustomDrawableView extends View { public CustomDrawableView(Context context) { super(context); setVerticalScrollBarEnabled(true); setMinimumHeight(1000); } @Override protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) { canvas.drawLine(...); // more drawing } } I've tried to override scrollTo, scrollBy, awakenScrollBars etc with a call to super but to no avail. Am I missing something silly, or am I making some fundamental mistake? Thank you in advance, Martyn

  • Flex : Adding a click handler on SkinnableDataContainer's items

I would prefer that the handler code stays at application level. Is there a simple 'Flex-ish' to achieve this ?

  • Reading data from database and binding them to custom ListView

    - by N.K.
I try to read data from a database i have made and to show some of the data in a row at a custom ListView. I can not understand what is my mistake. This is my code: public class EsodaMainActivity extends Activity { public static final String ROW_ID = "row_id"; //Intent extra key private ListView esodaListView; // the ListActivitys ListView private SimpleCursorAdapter esodaAdapter; // adapter for ListView DatabaseConnector databaseConnector = new DatabaseConnector(EsodaMainActivity.this); // called when the activity is first created @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_esoda_main); esodaListView = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.esodaList); esodaListView.setOnItemClickListener(viewEsodaListener); databaseConnector.open(); //Cursor cursor= databaseConnector.query("esoda", new String[] // {"name", "amount"}, null, null, null); Cursor cursor=databaseConnector.getAllEsoda(); startManagingCursor(cursor); // map each esoda to a TextView in the ListView layout // The desired columns to be bound String[] from = new String[] {"name","amount"}; // built an String array named "from" //The XML defined views which the data will be bound to int[] to = new int[] { R.id.esodaTextView, R.id.amountTextView}; // built an int array named "to" // EsodaMainActivity.this = The context in which the ListView is running // R.layout.esoda_list_item = Id of the layout that is used to display each item in ListView // null = // from = String array containing the column names to display // to = Int array containing the column names to display esodaAdapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter (this, R.layout.esoda_list_item, cursor, from, to); esodaListView.setAdapter(esodaAdapter); // set esodaView's adapter } // end of onCreate method @Override protected void onResume() { super.onResume(); // call super's onResume method // create new GetEsodaTask and execute it // GetEsodaTask is an AsyncTask object new GetEsodaTask().execute((Object[]) null); } // end of onResume method // onStop method is executed when the Activity is no longer visible to the user @Override protected void onStop() { Cursor cursor= esodaAdapter.getCursor(); // gets current cursor from esodaAdapter if (cursor != null) cursor.deactivate(); // deactivate cursor esodaAdapter.changeCursor(null); // adapter now has no cursor (removes the cursor from the CursorAdapter) super.onStop(); } // end of onStop method // this class performs db query outside the GUI private class GetEsodaTask extends AsyncTask<Object, Object, Cursor> { // we create a new DatabaseConnector obj // EsodaMainActivity.this = Context DatabaseConnector databaseConnector = new DatabaseConnector(EsodaMainActivity.this); // perform the db access @Override protected Cursor doInBackground(Object... params) { databaseConnector.open(); // get a cursor containing call esoda return databaseConnector.getAllEsoda(); // the cursor returned by getAllContacts() is passed to method onPostExecute() } // end of doInBackground method // here we use the cursor returned from the doInBackground() method @Override protected void onPostExecute(Cursor result) { esodaAdapter.changeCursor(result); // set the adapter's Cursor databaseConnector.close(); } // end of onPostExecute() method } // end of GetEsodaTask class // creates the Activity's menu from a menu resource XML file @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); MenuInflater inflater = getMenuInflater(); inflater.inflate(R.menu.esoda_menu, menu); // inflates(eµf?s?) esodamainactivity_menu.xml to the Options menu return true; } // end of onCreateOptionsMenu() method //handles choice from options menu - is executed when the user touches a MenuItem @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { // creates a new Intent to launch the AddEditEsoda Activity // EsodaMainActivity.this = Context from which the Activity will be launched // AddEditEsoda.class = target Activity Intent addNewEsoda = new Intent(EsodaMainActivity.this, AddEditEsoda.class); startActivity(addNewEsoda); return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item); } // end of method onPtionsItemSelected() // event listener that responds to the user touching a esoda's name in the ListView OnItemClickListener viewEsodaListener = new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { // create an intent to launch the ViewEsoda Activity Intent viewEsoda = new Intent(EsodaMainActivity.this, ViewEsoda.class); // pass the selected esoda's row ID as an extra with the Intent viewEsoda.putExtra(ROW_ID, arg3); startActivity(viewEsoda); // start viewEsoda.class Activity } // end of onItemClick() method }; // end of viewEsodaListener } // end of EsodaMainActivity class The statement: Cursor cursor=databaseConnector.getAllEsoda(); queries all data (columns) From the data I want to show at my custom ListView 2 of them: "name" and "amount". • Git: Merge in only one commit

    - by Ivan
Usually, I work with branches in Git, but I don't like to see hundreds of branches in my working tree (Git history). I'm wondering if there is a method in Git to "join" all commits in a branch in only one commit (ideally with a clear commit message). Something like this: git checkout -b branch <some work> git commit -a -m "commit 1" <some work> git commit -a -m "commit 2" <some work> git commit -a -m "commit 3" git checkout master git SUPER-JOIN branch -m "super commit" After this, only "super commit" will exist in the git log.

  • Python Parse CSV Correctly

    - by cornerstone
I am very new to Python. I want to parse a csv file such that it will recognize quoted values - For example 1997,Ford,E350,"Super, luxurious truck" should be split as ('1997', 'Ford', 'E350', 'Super, luxurious truck') and NOT ('1997', 'Ford', 'E350', '"Super', ' luxurious truck"') the above is what I get if I use something like str.split(). How do I do this? Also would it be best to store these values in an array or some other data structure? because after I get these values from the csv I want to be able to easily choose, lets say any two of the columns and store it as another array or some other data structure. Thanks in advance.

  • Custom setter methods in Core-Data

    - by andrewebling
I need to write a custom setter method for a field (we'll call it foo) in my subclass of NSManagedObject. foo is defined in the data model and Xcode has autogenerated @property and @dynamic fields in the .h and .m files respectively. If I write my setter like this: - (void)setFoo: (NSObject *)inFoo { [super setFoo: inFoo]; [self updateStuff]; } then I get a compiler warning on the call to super. Alternatively, if I do this: - (void)setFoo: (NSObject *)inFoo { [super setValue: inFoo forKey: inFoo]; [self updateStuff]; } then I end up in an infinite loop. So what's the correct approach to write a custom setter for a subclass of NSManagedObject?

Therefore should not the output be: b (call from compiler written call to super(), before line#2 b (again from compiler written call to super(),before line#1 ) h hn x But the output is b h hn x Why is that?

  • Is there really a need for encryption to have true wireless security? [closed]

    - by Cawas
I welcome better key-wording here, both on tags and title. I'm trying to conceive a free, open and secure network environment that would work anywhere, from big enterprises to small home networks of just 1 machine. I think since wireless Access Points are the most, if not only, true weak point of a Local Area Network (let's not consider every other security aspect of having internet) there would be basically two points to consider here: Having an open AP for anyone to use the internet through Leaving the whole LAN also open for guests to be able to easily read (only) files on it, and even a place to drop files on Considering these two aspects, once everything is done properly... What's the most secure option between having that, or having just an encrypted password-protected wifi? Of course "both" would seem "more secure". But it shouldn't actually be anything substantial. That's the question, but I think it may need more elaborating on. If you don't think so, please feel free to skip the next (long) part. Elaborating more on the two aspects ... I've always had the feeling using any kind of the so called "wireless security" methods is actually a bad design. I'm talking mostly about encrypting and pass-phrasing (which are actually two different concepts), since I won't even consider hiding SSID and mac filtering. I understand it's a natural way of thinking. With cable networking nobody can access the network unless they have access to the physical cable, so you're "secure" in the physical way. In a way, encrypting is for wireless what building walls is for the cables. And giving pass-phrases would be adding a door with a key. But the cabling without encryption is also insecure. If someone plugin all the data is right there. So, while I can see the use for encrypting data, I don't think it's a security measure in wireless networks. It's wasting resources for too little gain. I believe we should encrypt only sensitive data regardless of wires. That's already done with HTTPS, so I don't really need to encrypt my torrents, for instance. They're torrents, they are meant to be freely shared! As for using passwords, they should be added to the users, always. Not to wifi. For securing files, truly, best solution is backup. Sure all that doesn't happen that often, but I won't consider the most situations where people just don't care.
