  • Is there a way to force a user to select an autocomplete value before they can submit the form?

    I am using the jqueryui autocomplete feature to allow the user to select their location. I need to make sure they select a location from the autocomplete before they can submit the form. I don't want them to be able to submit the form before they select a value. My solution is after they submit make sure that the value found is in the database. The other solution would be that when they click submit or after they leave the location box and go to another field to submit the entry via ajax to ensure it is valid if not show an error and do not let them submit the form. I was wondering if there was something easier I could do, or if there is something more elegant. I realize they have to be able to type something into the box to get the autocomplete to work, so I could force them to select a value from the autocomplete because it is not a select box, so it seems that my above solutions would be the best way to go. Thoughts?

  • Ubuntu 11.10 UI changed suddenly?

    10 64 bit on a Dell laptop that has 6GB RAM and 1GB graphic card. All of a sudden there were some sudden changes in UI which I am unable to understand why. The unity panel was initially glassy and transparent, now it looks all black in its background. Likewise the alt+tab graphics was working well until it got changed suddenly and now shows icons on pure white background. I've not tried to install any themes and I've not tried to tweak anything. Why did this UI changes occur? Could it be that it is unable to detect the graphic card or something? How can I fix this and how can I get back the original desktop back? Please help..

  • Any good lightweight date/time picker for web with good UI ?

    Few wishes, If it is jQuery based, best. If it focus easy UI then eye candy, better. If it is date and time picker both, good. Edit: I should have mentioned , I already looked most options available that I can found using google. Problem is not a single date+time picker is part of official jquery-ui project so some are for old jquery version. some have ugly UI choices. One which have somewhat good UI seems buggy.

    When I call the function, the dialog does work. If I move the dialog construction into the showtimes_list function, everything works fine.   • JqueryUI Tab Linking from Another Page

    I'm having some issues with jqueryui tabs and linking to certain tabs on another page. Basically, each page has tabs, and all are navigational via drop down at the top, with each 'tab' being available in the drop down. Currently I'm able to text-link, but only within the page I'm on, and I'm just lost on the getting it to work correctly from page to page.   • Use a jquery UI slider to control the resizing of a youtube video.

I can resize it using the corners but I want to control this with a ui slider and maintain the "aspectRatio: 16/9" that .resizable() provides.   • Why is FF on OS X loosing jQuery-UI in click event handler?

    In a web page using jQUery 1.7.1 and jQUery-UI 1.8.18, if I output $.ui in an alert box when the document is ready, I get [object Object]. However when using Firefox, if I output $.ui in a click event handler, I get 'undefined' as result. With other browsers (latest versions of IE, Chrome and Safari), the result is still [object Object] when clicking on the link. I created a new post for the sake of clarity, since the real question is different from the original one now that pin-pointed where the problem resided. UPDATE: IF I replace my alerts with simply alert($); I get this result for alert A: function (selector, context) { return new jQuery.fn.init(selector, context, rootjQuery); } and this one for alert B: function (a, b) { return new d.fn.init(a, b, g); } This does not make sense to me, although I may not be understanding well enough what $ is... UPDATE 2: I can only reproduce this problem using Firefox on OS X. On Firefox running on Windows 7, everything is fine.

  • How To Customize Wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition

    If you have the Starter Edition of Windows 7 installed on your netbook you may be sick of looking at the default wallpaper. With Starter Background Changer you can access other customization options with ease. Before There is not a lot that you can say about the singular default wallpaper included with the Starter Edition…it just kind of sits there all boring like. Installing Starter Background Changer Since the installer part of the program is in French we have the entire set of install windows shown here with the appropriate buttons highlighted to get you through the whole process without any problems. Using Starter Background Changer Once the installation process has finished you will simply see a quiet screen with no desktop icons or Start Menu entries visible. Now if you are wondering at this point “Did the program finish installing or did it install at all?” the answer is yes. Right click on your desktop and you will notice a new entry on the Context Menu…the same one that is included in the other editions but not Starter. Time to have some fun… The Personalization Window will open maximized but we have reduced it here for our screenshots. You have four regular categories to choose from in the lower part of the window: Wallpaper, Colors, Sounds, & Screensavers. The first category that we chose for our example was Wallpaper. As you can see here the main display area (My Collection) has no wallpapers showing at the moment. You can use the drop-down menu to access your My Pictures Folder or browse for a different location. Notice that you can choose how the image fills the screen and set up a timed wallpaper slideshow at the bottom. Any picture (or pictures) selected will be added to the My Collection display for easy access the next time you open the window. Once you choose a picture click on Validate the modification to set the wallpaper for your desktop and return to the main window. When you return to the main window you will see a preview for your selection. At this point you can simply close the window or make further adjustments in the other categories. Starter Background Changer provides easy one-stop access to other customization areas. We started off with Colors… Followed by Sounds… And finally Screensavers. Before you do close the main window you can take a quick look at the Options if desired. We did set Optimization of the images to High on our system. Quick and easy wallpaper satisfaction. We did pin the Program Window to our Taskbar…nice if you prefer this method as opposed to the Desktop Context Menu. Conclusion If you have been longing for a way to change the wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition then you will definitely want to give this program a try. Goodbye boring default wallpaper!   • Part 6: Extensions vs. Modifications

    Customizations = Extensions + Modifications In the EBS terminology, a customization can be an extension or a modification. Extension means that you mainly create your own code from scratch. You may utilize existing views, packages and java classes, but your code is unique. Modifications are quite different, because here you take existing code and change or enhance certain areas to achieve a slightly different behavior. Important is that it doesn't matter if you place your code at the same or at another place – it is a modification. It is also not relevant if you leave the original code enabled or not! Why? Here is the answer: In case the original code piece you have taken as your base will get patched, you need to copy the source again and apply all your changes once more. If you don't do that, you may get different results or write different data compared to the standard – this causes a high risk! Here are some guidelines how to reduce the risk: Invest a bit longer when searching for objects to select data from. Rather choose a view than a table. In case Oracle development changes the underlying tables, the view will be more stable and is therefore a better choice. Choose rather public APIs over internal APIs. Same background as before: although internal structure might change, the public API is more stable. Use personalization and substitution rather than modification. Spend more time to check if the requirement can be covered with such techniques. Build a project code library, avoid that colleagues creating similar functionality multiple times. Otherwise you have to review lots of similar code to determine the need for correction. Use the technique of “flagged files”. Flagged files is a way to mark a standard deployment file. If you run the patch analyse (within Application Manager), the analyse result will list flagged standard files in case they will be patched. If you maintain a cross reference to your own CEMLIs, you can easily determine which CEMLIs have to be reviewed. Implement a code review process. This can be done by utilizing team internal or external persons. If you implement such a team internal process, your team members will come up with suggestions how to improve the code quality by themselves. Review heavy customizations regularly, to identify options to reduce complexity; let's say perform this every 6th month. You may not spend days for such a review, but a high level cross check if the customization can be reduced is suggested. De-install customizations which are no more required. Define a process for this. Add a section into the technical documentation how to uninstall and what are possible implications. Maintain a cross reference between CEMLIs and between CEMLIs, EBS modules and business processes. Keep this list up to date! Share this list! By following these guidelines, you are able to improve product stability. Although we might not be able to avoid modifications completely, we can give a much better advise to developers and to our test team. Summary: Extensions and Modifications have to be handled differently during their lifecycle. Modifications implicate a much higher risk and should therefore be reviewed more frequently. Good cross references allow you to give clear advise for the testing activities.

  • hudson/jenkins: help needed to get started with customization work

    I'm would to customize jenkins by adding links to the left hand side panel and use the pages associated with these links to serve some custom content in place of the jobs/views table displayed by default. I managed to add links to the side-bar using the sidebar-links plugin. Now I'm trying to see how to replace the content of the <td id="main-panel"> element with some custom content. The custom content is generated by some PHP scripts which ideally should be called by hudson every time the custom pages are requested, though if too complicated I can either create static content to be served by jenkins by calling my PHP scripts in a crontab or see if calls to the PHP scripts can be done by apache itself before the page requests are sent to jenkins. I'm not sure writing a plugin is the best way to proceed and I would like to have your thoughts as to how you think I should implement this.

    I work at Coscend, a cloud and communications software product company. We have built a Web portal-based collaboration platform that we would like to host on five different Windows- and Linux-based servers in different hosting environments that run Web servers. Each of these Windows and Linux servers have a different host name and domain name (and IP address). Out team would appreciate your guidance on: (1) Is there a way to implement this Web portal-based platform on these Linux servers without customizing the host name, domain name and IP address for each individual instance? (2) Is there a way to create some variables using JavaScript for host name and domain name and call them from the different implementations? (3) Can these JavaScript modules be made portable and re-usable object modules for different environments and instances? The portal is written in JavaScript that is embedded in HTML5 and padded with CSS3. Other technologies include Flash, Flex. Databases used are PostgreSQL and MySQL.

    Want to test drive iPad without heading over to an Apple store?  Here’s a way you can experience some of the iPad UI straight from your browser! The iPad is the latest gadget from Apple to wow the tech world, and people even waited in line all night to be one of the first to get their hands on one.  Thanks to a simple JavaScript trick, however, you can get a feel for some of its new features without leaving your computer.  This won’t let you try out everything on the iPad, but it will let you see how the new lists and pop-over menus work just like they do in the new apps. Test drive the iPad’s UI from your browser Normally, the Apple iPhone developer library online looks like a standard webpage. But, on the iPad, it looks and feels like a full-blown native iPad app.  With a nifty JavaScript trick from boredzo.org you can use this same interface on your PC.  Since the iPad uses the Safari browser, we ran this test in Safari for Windows.  If you don’t already have it installed, you can download it from Apple (link below) and setup as normal. Now, open Safari and browse to Apple’s developer page at: http://www.developer.apple.com   Now, enter the following in the address bar, and press Enter. javascript:localStorage.setItem('debugSawtooth', 'true')   Finally, click this link to go to the iPhone OS documentation. http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/iPad/ After a short delay, it should open in full iPad style! The left menu works just like the menus on the iPad, complete with transitions.  It feels entirely like a native application, instead of a webpage.  To scroll through text, click and pull up or down similar to the way you would use it on a touch screen. Some pages even include a pop-over menu like many of the new iPad apps use. Note that the page will be rendered for the size of your browser, and if you resize your window the page will not resize with it.  Simply press F5 to reload the page, and it will resize to fit the new window size.  If you resize your window to be tall and narrow, like the iPad in horizontal mode, the webpage will change and the left menu will disappear in lieu of a drop-down menu just like it would if you rotated the iPad. This works in Chrome as well, since it, like Safari, is based on Webkit.  However, it didn’t seem to work in our test on Firefox or other browsers.
