• Understanding a lighttpd.conf file?

  Hi all, I've been given a lighttpd.conf that someone else wrote and need help working out how to serve it. I'm 90% of the way there but stuck... The index.html page appears, but links and CSS files don't point to the right place. To clarify, the links and CSS files are all pointing to a 'file:///' URL. • only port working with mod_proxy is 8009, trying to use with tomcat and httpd, dont know why

  I am trying to use mod_proxy with httpd and tomcat. If I leave tomcat ajp to run on 8009 in the server.xml of tomcat and in the httpd.conf of apache httpd everything works great but once I change it to anything else and restart them both it does not work.. I trieded 8109,8209 and 8019.. only thing that works is 8009? • Accessing Virtual Host from outside LAN

  I'm setting up a web development platform that makes things as easy as possible to write and test all code on my local machine, and sync this with my web server. I setup several virtual hosts so that I can access my projects by typing in "project" instead of "localhost/project" as the URL. I also want to set this up so that I can access my projects from any network. I signed up for a DYNDNS URL that points to my computer's IP address. This worked great from anywhere before I setup the virtual hosts. Now when I try to access my projects by typing in my DYNDNS URL, I get the 403 Forbidden Error message, "You don't have permission to access / on this server." To setup my virtual hosts, I edited two files - hosts in the system32/drivers/etc folder, and httpd-vhosts.conf in the Apache folder of my WAMP installation. In the hosts file, I simply added the server name to associate with 127.0.0.1. I added the following to the http-vhosts.conf file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www/ladybug" ServerName ladybug ErrorLog "logs/your_own-error.log" CustomLog "logs/your_own-access.log" common </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www" ServerName localhost ErrorLog "logs/localhost-error.log" CustomLog "logs/localhost-access.log" common </VirtualHost> Any idea why I can't access my projects from typing in my DYNDNS URL? Also, is it possible to setup virtual hosts so that when I type in http://projects from a random computer outside of my network, I access url.dyndns.info/projects (a.k.a. my WAMP projects on my home computer)? • Django URL Conf Returns Incorrect "Current URL"

  I have a django app that is mostly done, and the URLs work perfectly when I run it with the manage.py runserver command. However, I've recently tried to get it running via lighttpd, and many links have stopped working. For example: http://mysite.com/races/32 should work, but instead throws this error message. Page not found (404) Request Method: GET Request URL: http://mysite.com/races/32 Using the URLconf defined in racetrack.urls, Django tried these URL patterns, in this order: ^admin/ ^create/$ ^races/$ ^races/(?P<race_id>\d+)/$ ^races/(?P<race_id>\d+)/manage/$ ^races/(?P<text>\w+)/$ ^user/(?P<kol_id>\d+)/$ ^$ ^login/$ ^logout/$ The current URL, 32, didn't match any of these. The request URL is accurate, but the last line (which displays the current URL) is giving 32 instead of races/32 as expected.   I'm trying to link a debian server authentication to active directory. I followed this tutorial: http://wiki.debian.org/Authenticating_Linux_With_Active_Directory but I'm stuck on the getent passwd Because this doesn't list all AD users but only locals. This is my nsswitch.conf: passwd: files winbind group: files winbind shadow: files winbind And I'm sure it is well connected to AD becuse this: wbinfo -u Lists all AD users. What have I missed?

  Like many other natty users on a university / academic network, I'm experiencing annoying frequent disconnects / hangs / delays. See, for instance: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpasupplicant/+bug/429370 I would like to learn how to add fast_reauth=0 to the wpa_supplicant.conf file. What I'm hoping for is this: That creating a wpa_supplicant.conf file with fast_reauth=0 in it, saving it to the relevant path, will work and make my uni wireless (more or even completely) stable. Am I wrong? What do you think this directive does?

• How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

  I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works. • /var/run/httpd.pid missing...

  Recently one of our web servers httpd stopped working and I haven't been able to find the problem. Today I sat down and went through every directory in the httpd.conf and have found an issue. the /var/run/httpd.pid is missing from the folder. All other files are there and seem to be fine. I cannot create a new file with the same name in vi and I have no idea what could have caused this. I imagine it was caused by a cold reboot at some stage as no other extraordinary processes have been run on this server at the time it went down. I am running CentOS 3. How can I reinstate this file?

• How do I set a postgresql password in pgpass.conf for the Administrator account on Windows Server 2008?

  I have a pgpass.conf file that works well for my default user. It is in C:/Users/myuser/AppData/Roaming/postgresql/pgpass.conf. It reads like so; localhost:5432:*:postgres:password1 I have a process that runs under the Administrator account. When I run whoami under this process I get nt authority/system. I want to be able to access the database from this process but it gets stuck because it needs a password. I have tried putting the above pgpass.conf into C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/postgresql/pgpass.conf and C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming/postgresql/pgpass.conf but it does not work. Is this the correct place for this file? Am I even able to do this as the Administrator. Unfortunately I cannot change the user that this process runs under.

• Why a SIGHUP signal to httpd kills the tomcat process?

  I have a server with a tomcat process binding to port 80 and a httpd processes binding to port 5000. For some reason every time any process send a SIGHUP signal to httpd process my tomcat process disappears without error or anything. I fixed the issue on the server the following way, added an explicit ServerName directive in the httpd.conf and that fixed the issue. I still don't understand why the SIGHUP to httpd killed the tomcat process. NOTE 1: I replicated the kill signal with the following command: find out what the httpd pid is. cat /etc/httpd/run/httpd.pid 4056 then kill with a sighup signal kill -s SIGHUP 4056 NOTE 2: We troubleshoot the issue and find that logrotate running every morning at 4am was sending a SIGHUP signal to realease the logs to be able to rotate them, thus killing tomcat as well.

• httpd running as _www instead of www as it used to

  OSX Mountain Lion and Apache 2.2.22. I have always had the httpd.conf set as: User www Group www and it was running as such. Until today. Rebooted the server for another reason and when I tried to make some changes to a website via FTP this evening, it said access denied. Got to looking at the processes and httpd is now running as _www. WTH? Now of course all of my users are getting denied messages I assume because they were all created and permitted with the www user, not _www. Any idea why this happened or what I may have done to cause it?

• CPU spikes on small site- possibly apache or php config related

  Hello, I hope you can help me. I have a site that I'm moving to a new datacenter. The server is pretty much vanilla, no control panel, and also no optimizations. When I hit a page, the site takes an extremely long time to load, despite it being relatively light weight. I ran top to see what was happening, and the cpu jumps to 75%, and drops back down to about 20% while the rest of the page is loading. Someone suggested that I ran lsof -p on the offending processes, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I ran through my httpd.conf file and commented out a bunch of loaded modules that didn't seem necessary, but that didn't help either. Anyone have any ideas? • Apache 2.4 and PHP 5.4 getting connection reset errors in the browser

  In the weekend I upgraded my development web server to Apache 2.4 and PHP 5.4. In my web application which was previously working great on Apache 2.2 and PHP 5.3 it now starts getting these messages saying the "connection was reset" in Firefox. See screenshot. I am connecting to the linux machine via local LAN. I'm assuming it might be something to do with the new version of Apache or PHP, or the new LAMP stack which I downloaded from BitNami? It would seem to happen every 5-10 requests and throw this error, perhaps more likely to trigger it is if I send a POST request from a page. Is it timing out the script or something? These are just basic dynamic pages I'm loading and they worked perfectly in Apache 2.2 and PHP5.3. Here are my httpd.conf and PHP.ini if that has any clues. Any ideas? Any help much appreciated.

• Header unset Server not working for static files

  I'm trying to unset the "Server" field in response headers. I do this using Header unset Server, and that works fine for requests handled by mod_perl. However, for requests to /static I use Apache to serve static files. For some reason, when these files are loaded directly in the browser, the Server field is not removed. How can I go about fixing this? • How to make subdirectory the document root of a web domain or localhost

  I have a subdirectory abc in the document root /var/www/html I want to be able to run any file any_file.html within the subdirectory by typing in the browser: localhost/any_file instead of localhost/abc/any_file.html or my_domain.com/any_file instead of my_domain.com/abc/any_file.html I tried writing in httpd.conf: <Directory "/var/www/html/abc"> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule %{REQUEST_FILENAME} %{REQUEST_FILENAME}\.html </Directory> But it doesn't work. Options FollowSymLinks is activated in <Directory> so I believe I would not need to write this again. Does anyone knows why and how to solve it? Thanks. Update: I have another subdirectory efg which I need to be able to access through localhost.

• Trouble with resolving hostnames on CentOS using Bind

  I'm taking a course on server administration at school and I have managed to set up virtual hosting in apache and a dns server on a virtual machine. However, I have now set up an old pc to run CentOS and I'm trying the same on that box. The problem I ran into now is that I can't resolve hostnames from the linux box. I have set up the nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf to the IP of the CentOS machine, but when I try for example ping google.com I get ping: unknown host google.com However, when I do ping 66.102.13.105 (which is the Google IP, figured that out by pinging on my mac) I get: PING 66.102.13.105 (66.102.13.105) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 66.102.13.105: icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=15.5 ms Slightly confused why this is happening. Could it be because of my router sitting in between the linux machine and the cable modem? It's a D-Link somethingsomething. Thanks in advance

• Warning in Apache log: Cannot get media type from 'x-mapp-php5'

  I have no idea what is causing this issue, but it seems to be related to the displayed file (just a simple index.php to print phpinfo) being in an aliased directory. Any suggestions what I can do to avoid the warning? Here's an excerpt from my httpd.conf: <Directory "<dir with broken php>"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI Includes AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Alias /smartersoftware/ "<broken dir>" <FilesMatch \.php$> SetHandler application/x-httpd-php </FilesMatch> The last three lines were required to make php work at all (which I found a bit strange, and it may or may not be related to my problem). Adding a AddType application/x-mapp-php5 .php didn't change anything.
