• Cannot Call WordPress Plugin Files Under wp-content

  I have a client who has many blog customers. Each of these WordPress blogs calls a plugin that provides a product link. The way that link is composed looks like this: {website}/wp-content/plugins/prodx/product?id=432320 This works fine on all blogs except two. On those two, when you try to call the URL, you get a 404. So, I disabled all plugins except prodx and reverted the theme to default (Kubrick), thinking perhaps a plugin intercept with add_action() API was doing this, such as intercepting URLs and redirecting them. However, this did not help. So, I upgraded the WordPress to the latest version. Again, didn't fix. So, I checked permissions, comparing with a blog that worked just fine. Again, didn't fix. So I replaced the .htaccess, using one from a working blog. Again, didn't fix. So I replaced all the files using some from a working blog that was identical to this one, and then restored the wp-config.php file back so that it talked to the right blog database. Again, didn't fix. Again I checked permissions meticulously, comparing to a perfectly working blog. Again, didn't fix. So, I created a test.php that looks like so: <?php print_r($_GET); echo "hello world"; I then copied it into another plugin folder and used my browser to get to it -- again, 404. So I copied it into the root of wp-content/plugins and tried to call it there -- again, 404. So I copied it into wp-content -- again, 404. Last, I copied it into the root of the WordPress blog website, and this time, it worked! Doesn't make sense. I started to think that perhaps something was going on with /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf for this customer, but the only thing I saw different in their for this customer was the IP address was different than the customer's blog that worked. Each customer gets their own IP in this environment my client has built. My client sysop is baffled too. What do you think is going on? Is there something wrong in the WP database for this customer? Is there something wrong in httpd.conf?

• Blank screen after installing nvidia restricted driver

  I have a new machine with a MSI N560GTX Ti Twin Frozr II/OC graphic card and MSI PH67A-C43 (B3) main board. If i install the current nvidia restricted driver and reboot the machine on Natty (64-bit), then i only get a black screen after reboot and my system does not respond. I can´t see the login screen. On nvidia web page i saw that the current driver is 270.41.06. Is that driver used as current driver? Btw, i am an ubuntu/linux beginner and therefore not very familiar with ubuntu. What can i do to solve the black screen problem? EDIT: Setting the nomodeset parameter does not solve the problem. After ubuntu start, first i see the ubuntu logo, then strange pixels and at the end the black screen. HELP! EDIT2: Thank you, but setting the "video=vesa:off gfxpayload=text" parameters do no solve the problem too. Same result as in last edit. HELP. I would like to see Unity. • Ubuntu 10.04 not detecting multiple monitors

  I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks. • Swap space maxing out - JVM dying

  I have a server running 3 WordPress instances, MySql, Apache and the play framework 2.0 on 64m initial & max heap. If I increase the max heap of the JVM that play is running in even by 16m I see the 128m of swap space steadily fill up until the the JVM dies. I notice that it is only when I am plugging away at the wordpress sites that the JVM will die. I assume this is because the JVM is not asking for memory at the time so gets collected. I notice that when I restart Apache I reclaim about half of my swap and RAM. So is there some way I can configure apache to consume less memory? Also what could be causing the swap space to get so heavily thrashed with just 16m added to the max heap size of the JVM? • How do I test is storage-conf is being loaded in Cassandra 0.7.3?

  I have installed Cassandra and gotten it working on two machines. I have followed the instructions to hook them up to each other by configuring the storage-conf.xml files. Both machines respond well to thrift and to command line cassandra. This is tutorial I used to setup the storage-conf.xml files. The tutorial says that if I run netstat, I should NOT see Cassandra bound to 127.0.0.1 on my seed node. I should see it bound to my internal IP, which I have configured in the storage-conf.xml file. I have rebooted the servers and relaunched cassandra. Still, I see the localhost address insead of the correct internal IP address. Is it that my .yaml file is overriding the storage-conf.xml file? If so, how do I delete the appropriate things in the .yaml? Or how do I tell Cassandra to look for my storage-conf.xml file? A few things I have tried: renaming the cassandra.yaml file. What happens is that cassandra will not load. If i rename the storage-conf.xml, cassandra does load. When I installed Cassandra, it did not come with a storage-conf.xml file. I had to grab it off the apache wiki.

  I have read all the articles but still must be doing something wrong... I modified the httpd-vhosts.conf file to access the project I am working on... I have tried many different configurations and none work.   I am running Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot", and in trying to install the nvidia CUDA developer drivers I switched to a virtual terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F5) and stopped lightdm (installation required that no X server instance be running) through sudo service lightdm stop. Re-starting lightdm with sudo service lightdm start did not work: A couple of * Starting [...] lines where displayed, but the process hanged. (I do not remember at which point, but I think it was * Starting System V runlevel compatibility. I manually rebooted my laptop, and ever since booting seems to hang, usually around the * Starting anac(h)ronistic cron [OK] log line (not consistently at that point, though). From that point on, I seem to be able to interact with my system only through a tty session (Ctrl-Alt-F1). I've tried purging and reinstalling both lightdm and gdm, as well as selecting both as the default display managers (through sudo dpkg-reconfigure [lightdm / gdm] or by manually editing /etc/X11/default-display-manager) through both apt-get and aptitude (that shouldn't make a difference anyway) after updating the packages, but the problem persists. Some of the responses I'm getting are the following: After running sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm (but not ... gdm) I get the following message: dpkg-maintscript-helper:warning: environment variable DPKG_MATINSCRIPT_NAME missing dpkg-maintscript-helper:warning: environment variable DPKG_MATINSCRIPT_PACKAGE missing After trying sudo service lightdm start or sudo start lightdm I get to see the boot loading screen again but nothing changes. Other candidate solutions that I'd found on the web included running startx but when I try that I get an error output [...] Fatal server error: no screens found [...]. Moreover, I made sure that lightdm-gtk-greeter is installed but that did not help either. Please excuse my not including complete outputs/logs; I am writing this post from another computer and it's hard to manually copy the complete logs. Also, I've seen several posts that had to do with similar problems, but either there was no fix, or the one suggested did not work for me. In closing: Please help! The website was reworked within the last two years and I am trying to oblige a request by staff to get a redirect to work properly (if it can given the default structure). So right now on the server I have a redirect that takes every 301 and dumps it onto the front page of the website. RedirectMatch /(.) http://www.example.com This has worked well for most of the old URL's coming in from various websites containing the old liking structure. However, now a staff member wants a single URL which is somewhat widely used to be redirected to it's proper place. Redirect /new/research/Exp_Rese_Disc/Asia/example.shtml http://example.com/asia/ Is this possible without killing the all encompassing 301 redirect? To have a general RedirectMatch /(.) redirect as well as a singular redirect? As of right now it is not seeming to let me. Any ideas, thoughts or examples are much appreciated.

• Setting a custom timeout to nmblookup

  As part of a batch script, I have the following command: hostname=$(nmblookup -A $ip_address | awk '$2 == "<20>" {print $1}') Which works fine from a functinality perspective, even for unresolved hosts. The problem is that when the IP address is not reachable or the remote machine does not respond to the SMB request, the command takes about ten seconds to complete. Therefore, the question is simple: is there a way to lower the elapsed time in such cases? Or, in other words, is there a way to set a custom timeout for the nmblookup command? NOTE: I'm interested in solutions that do not make use of SIGALRM or similar mechanisms; if they exist. The nmblookup version is 3.6.3 from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

• Should I use /etc/bind/zones/ or /var/cache/bind/?

  Each tutorial seems to have a different opinion on this. For my ISC BIND zones, should I use /etc/bind/zones/ or /var/cache/bind/? In the last install, I used /var/cache/bind/ but only because I was guided to do so; however I just spotted a pid file in there for this new Debian install, so I figured that using the "working directory" to store zone files probably wasn't the best idea. It seems that many admins use this so they don't have to type the full path when declaring a new zone. For example: file "/etc/bind/zones/db.foobar.com"; Instead of: file "db.foobar.com"; Is obviously easier to type, but is it good or bad practice? Some may also suggest setting the working directory to /etc/bind/zones: options { // directory "/var/cache/bind"; directory "/etc/bind/zones"; } ... but something tells me this isn't good practice, since the pid file would be created there I assume (unless it's just in /var/cache/bind by coincidence). I took a look at the manpage but it didn't seem to say what the directory option was for, any ideas exactly what it was design for?

• Samba setup to request password reset on first time login

  Is it possible to setup Samba to ask for password reset when the user first logs in without the need to setup a domain controller? Would this work properly with Windows clients or with clients using Linux with file managers like Krusader or Nautilus? Could somebody give me a few pointers how to implement this if is possible?   I tried to migrate a 5 year old ruby on rails application onto a new server with Ubuntu 8.04, Apache 2 and MySQL 5. The application failed to run. When I looked in the error logs, I noticed Errno::ENOENT (No such file or directory - /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock) I looked around my new server but can't find a mysqld.sock file. How can I fix this problem?

• How to speed up apache

  We have a server with 8Cores, 16GB of RAM and RAID 0 SAS 10K drives. Our goal is to use this to serve a fairly simple php application quickly. We have tested all other components and we think we have narrowed it down to apache is our bottleneck. I am no apache guru I have done some research and tested a couple things but when i test with JMeter launching 100 concurrent connections against the server the first 10 - 20 come back quickly 30 - 100ms but the rest take between 1000ms to 3000ms. Anyone have any ideas on what to change in our apache config to make this faster right now its a vanilla install of apache.

  I am having a rough time running apache and using multiple domain names here is a snippet of my config file. I keep getting a error saying that NameVirtualHost has no VirtualHosts. I want them both running on the same IP and I'm not sure why this doesn't work. I've been digging through the documentation for VirtualHosts, NameVirtualHost, and apache's page about name based virtual hosting. That example in the name based page is almost exactly my config! What am I doing wrong?
