• How many repositories should I use to maintain my scripts under version control?

  I mainly code small programs for myself, but recently, I've been starting to code for my peers on my team. To that end, I've started using a Mercurial repository to maintain my code in some form of version control (specifically, Tortoise-Hg on Windows). I have many small scripts, each in their own directory, all under one repository. However, while reading Joel's Hg Tutorial, I tried cloning a directory for one of my bigger scripts to create a "stable" version and found I couldn't do it because the directory wasn't itself a repository. So, I assume (and please correct me if I'm mistaken) that in order to use cloning properly, I'd have to create a repository for each script/directory. But.. would that be a "good idea" or a future maintenance nightmare waiting to happen? Succinctly, do I keep all my (unrelated) scripts in one repository, or should I create a repository for each? Or some unknown third option?

• acessing network shared folder with a username and password string in vb.net

  i am using the following code to read the details from a network folder which is restricted for only one user shell("net use q: \\serveryname\foldername /user:admin pwrd", AppWinStyle.Hide, True, 10000) Process.Start(path) shell("net use q: /delete") when i run this to open any pdf or jpg or any other files except word/excel/powerpoint, everything is working fine. but the problem comes only when i access a word file. in the step one, i am giving permission to access the word file. in the step two, word file is open. in the third, i am deleting the q drive. the problem is the word file is still open. so i am getting a dos window, saying that "some connections of still connected or searching some folders, do you want to force disconnect" please help.... how to access a word file (editable files) providing user name and password from the code and at the same time he shoud not have access to any other folders directly.

• Algorithm for matching partially filled words

  Hello All, I am writing a game which when given a partially filled word, searches a dictionary and returns all the matching words. To that effect, I am trying to find an algorithm that can be used for the said purpose. For example, given - - a -, the algorithm will search a dictionary for all the words which have length 4 and have 'a' as the third letter. Is there such an algorithm already? If not, can somebody given a rough idea of how to design such an algorithm? Thanks in Advance.

• Java, filling arrays, and inheritance

  Hi folks, I think I'm running into an inheritance conceptual wall with my Java arrays. I'm kind of new to Java so please tell me if I have things upside down. In essence, I want to do three things: Create a runnersArray with the attributes of my Runners class. Fill my runnersArray using my GenerateObjects method of my GenerateObjects class. Access the contents of my filled runnersArray in my Evaluating method of my Evaluating class. The problem seems to be that runnersArray is not visible to the methods in steps 2 and 3 above, but their classes (due to design reasons) cannot inherit or extend Runners class. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. • R: How to tell lapply to ignore an error and process the next thing in the list?

  I have an example function below that reads in a date as a string and returns it as a date object. If it reads a string that it cannot convert to a date, it returns an error. testFunction <- function (date_in) { return(as.Date(date_in)) } testFunction("2010-04-06") # this works fine testFunction("foo") # this returns an error Now, I want to use lapply and apply this function over a list of dates: dates1 = c("2010-04-06", "2010-04-07", "2010-04-08") lapply(dates1, testFunction) # this works fine But if I want to apply the function over a list when one string in the middle of two good dates returns an error, what is the best way to deal with this? dates2 = c("2010-04-06", "foo", "2010-04-08") lapply(dates2, testFunction) I presume that I want a try catch in there, but is there a way to catch the error for the "foo" string whilst asking lapply to continue and read the third date?

  I'm new to threads. I'm using a 3rd party library that uses threads which at times call a procedure I've provided. How do I update update a TLabel.Caption from my procedure when its called by the thread? If I've called InitializeCriticalSection elsewhere, is it as simple as EnterCriticalSection(CritSect); GlobalVariable := 'New TLabel.Caption'; LeaveCriticalSection(CritSect); And then in my main thread: EnterCriticalSection(CritSect); Label1.Caption:= 'New TLable.Caption'; LeaveCriticalSection(CritSect); But, how do I get the main thread code to be called? The thread can use SendMessage? Or is there some better/easier way (.OnIdle could check a flag set by the thread?) Thanks.

  Hello I am looking into authenticating via google. I dont understand how it works:http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html#Samples If i do that 2nd request by entering the data as one url with params into browser i get back XML file. Should i not get back sample response nr3? Can somebody explain this to me? The problem is, that im trying to sort through some third party app that uses google openid authentication and its not recieving authenticated users e-mail back, like in sample response 3.   I have a given XML document (structure can not be changed) and want to get the comments that are written above the nodes. The document looks like this: <!--Some comment here--> <attribute name="Title">Book A</attribute> <attribute name="Author"> <value>Joe Doe</value> <value>John Miller</value> </attribute> <!--Some comment here--> <attribute name="Code">1</attribute> So comments are optional, but if there is one, I want to get the comment above each attribute. Using /*/comment()[n] would give me comment n, but for n=2 I would naturally get the comment of the third attribute, so there is no connection between attributes and comments Any ideas? Thanks

• WCF: limit number of calls per hour - per user

  Hi guys, I've got a WCF service (basicHttpBinding, basic authentication, IIS 6.0) on which I want to restrict the number of calls per hour - on user basis. For example, max 1000 calls per user, per hour (a la Google Maps, etc). I also want to implement some sort of subscription mechanism, so that users can upgrade their call-limit across various 'price plans'. I know that I could achieve this with a custom Inspector, backed by a DB containing some sort of 'subscription' table and a counter, but I'd like to avoid reinventing the wheel. Does anyone have experience doing this? Are there 3rd party projects/libraries that support this out of the box? Thanks. Eric

  I have an EXE project A, which references a class library project B (all in the same solution). Project B has a reference to about 10 3rd party DLLs (from DevExpress). All the referenced assemblies have Copy Local set to true. When I build the entire solution, the resulting DLL from project B is copied into the bin/debug of project A. However, none of the dependencies of project B get copied. I looked in the Output window during compile and all looks good. There aren't any errors. How do I troubleshoot this?

• 'sript/console test' with spork and rspec not loading the whole environment?

  I'm trying to load up console to interact with some of my rspec mocking helpers. I expected that running script/console test would load an env similar to when I run spec. However, this doesn't appear to be the case. It looks like spec_helper is never loaded. Or, if it is, it's not actually running through the logic because spork has polluted it a bit. In short, is there a quick and easy way to get an interactive rspec party going?

  In mysql, you can insert multiple rows to a table in one query for n 0: INSERT INTO tbl_name (a,b,c) VALUES(1,2,3),(4,5,6),(7,8,9), ..., (n-2, n-1, n); Is there a way to achieve the above with Django queryset methods? Here's an example: values = [(1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), ...] for value in values: SomeModel.objects.create(first=value[0], second=value[1], third=value[2]) I believe the above is calling an insert query for each iteration of the for loop. I'm looking for a single query, is that possible in Django?

• AVDs that exist do not get listed in the "Target Tab"

  I am using emulator Android 2.1 with Eclipse. For few days I had the emulator working ... was able to debug... I had 2 AVDs created and was using one of them. Earlier today I had to move my classes to a different package. Ever since I did that the configuration that I had has disappeared . So now I had to create configuration - I select Android Application and then click New - gave it a name TestPrjCfg - when I go to the "Target" tab - I see "No AVD available" but when I click manager I see two AVDs listed. I tired refresh in the "Target" tab - the existing AVDs do not show up. I used the Manager and created a third AVD that did not help either. Please let me know what am I missing here? What should I do so that the existing AVDs showup in the "Target" tab- Thank you for the time and effort abhi

  I've encountered multiple third part .Net component-vendors use a licensing scheme. On an evaluation copy, the components show up with a nag-screen or watermark or some such indicator. On a licensed machine, a Licenses.licx is created - with what appears to be just the assembly full name/identifiers. This file has to be included when the client assembly is built. How does this model work? Both from component-vendors' and users' perspective. What is the .licx file used for? Should it be checked in? We've had a number of issues with the wrong/right .licx file being checked in and what not

  Similar to this Java question. I would like to specify that a variable implements multiple interfaces. For instance private {IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} _foo; public void SetFoo({IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} value) { _foo = value; } Requirements: I don't have the ability to add an interface to most type that would be passed in to Foo. So I can't create a third interface that inherits from IFirstInterface and ISecondInterface. I would like to avoid making the containing class generic if possible because the type of Foo doesn't have much to do with the class and the user isn't likely to know it at compile time. I need to use foo to access methods in both interfaces at a later time. I would like to do this in a compiler safe way, i.e. no trying to cast to the interface just before trying to use it. If foo does not implement both interfaces quite a bit of functionality won't work properly. Is this possible?

• Save a binary file in SQL Server as BLOB and text (or get the text from Full-Text index)

  Currently we are saving files (PDF, DOC) into the database as BLOB fields. I would like to be able to retrieve the raw text of the file to be able to manipulate it for hit-highlighting and other functions. Does anyone know of a simple way to either parse out the files and save the raw text on save, either via SQL or .net code. I have found that Adobe has a filtdump utility that will convert the PDF to text. Filtdump seems to be a command line tool, and i don't see a way to use a file stream. And what would the extractor be for Office documents and other file types? -or- Is there a way to pull out the raw text from the Full text index? Note i am trying to build a .net & MSSql solution without having to use a third party tool such as Lucene

So far I manage to send them to the server correctly but the xml is static. I am looking for a way to insert dynamic/random values into the XML and then send it to the server.   Hi, My understanding is that there are two obvious places in a Grails app where one can do meta-programming: The init closure of Bootstrap.groovy The doWithDynamicMethods closure of a plugin The meta-programming I'm referring to here should be visible throughout the metaprogramming, typical examples include adding (or replacing) methods of 3rd party classes. String.metaClass.myCustomMethod = { /* implementation omitted */ } The disadvantage of (1), is that the metaprogramming won't be applied when the application is dynamically reloaded. The disadvantage of (2) is that I need to create and maintain an entire plugin just for the sake of a little metaprogramming. Is there a better place to do this kind of metaprogramming? Thanks, Don

  Hello, I work on an legacy application, where Spring AOP (namely ProxyFactoryBean) is used. I need to add an aspect around a method of a certain class. This class is not a bean however. The AspecjJ pointcut expression would be like this: execution(* xyz.package.Class.method()) I created a MethodInterceptor and AspectJExpressionPointcut, but I don't know how make those two work together. EDIT: I do not have source code for this class, it is a 3rd party library. The instances of this class are not created by me, neither in source code, nor in spring configuration as beans. It is used internally by the library. Any help appreciated.

• Deploying only changed part of a website with git to ftp (svn2web for git)

  I'm having a website with many big images file. The source (as well as the images) is maintained with git. I wish to deploy that via ftp to a bluehost-like cheap server. I do not wish to deploy all the website each time (so that I won't have to upload too many unchanged files over and over), but to do roughly the following: In a git repository, mark the last deployed revision with a tag "deployed". When I say "deploy revision X", find out which files has changed between revision X and revision tagged as deploy, and upload just them. It is similar in spirit to svn2web. But I want that for DVCS. Mercurial alternative will be considered. It's a pretty simple script to write, but I'd rather not to reinvent the wheel if there's some similar script on the web. Capistrano and fab seems to know only how to push the whole revision, in their SCM integration. So I don't think I can currently use them.

• Will this safely delete my record?

  I hate these three tables that. Two tables have a many to many relationship and as such it generates a third table. I'm using Linq-to-SQL and in the .dbml file I've dragged all the folder there to the graphic surface. Here is the method I'm using to delete an Area safely.
