• 3 or 4 monitors with Nvidia and Ubuntu

  I saw that you are (were?) running 4 monitors with Ubuntu 8.10 and two Nvidia cards (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27113/how-to-use-3-monitors). I was curious if you were doing this with Xinerama, a hacked up TwinView config, or multiple X screens, or some other method? Does it work with compiz? I intend to run my Dell 30" in the middle with two 1280x1024 on the sides and continue to use one X screen, and run compiz, on Ubuntu 9.04. Currently, I am using 2 monitors with twinview and compiz, which runs fantastic. I just can't get the third monitor running (unless I enable it in its own X screen, and then enable Xinerama to enable windows to be dragged as if all one X screen, but this breaks compiz, and I don't care much for having separate X screen). I am very interested in knowing how you set up 4 monitors with 2 GPU's. Thanks!

• Which full-text search package should I use for SQLite3?

  SQLite3 appears to come with three different full-text search engines, called FTS1, FTS2, and FTS3. The documentation available on the website mentions that FTS1 is stable, FTS2 is in development, and that you should use FTS2. Examples I find online use FTS3, which is in CVS, and not documented versus FTS2. None of the full-text search engines come with the amalgamated source, as near as I can tell. So, my question: which of these three engines, if any, should I use for full-text indexing in SQLite? Or should I simply use a third-party tool like Sphinx, or a custom solution in Lucene, instead?

• How to make an NSOutlineView indent multiple columns?

  What would be the easiest or recommended way for making an NSOutlineView indent multiple columns? By default, it only indents the outline column; and as far as I know there is no built-in support for making it indent other columns. I have an NSOutlineView which shows a comparison between two sets of hierarchical data. For visual appeal, if some item in the outline column is indented, I'd like to indent the item on the same row in another column by the same indentation amount. (There's also a third column which shows the result of comparing the two items, this column should never be indented.) Can this only be achieved by subclassing NSOutlineView? And what would need to be overridden in the subclass? Or is there an easier way to get it to indent multiple columns?

• Lombok with Play 2

  What about Lombok integration with Play Framework 2? I really like Lombok it make my code more readable and less boilerplate. And Play Framework is wonderful too. But there is a great trouble in case if you going to mixup them. Main reason is that scala temlates in play project compiled before domain classes. So Lombok, which itself is compiler's hack do not generate accessors for that time. The question is: if it any ways to make it work? I found some discussions in Google Groups, but they do not provide any reasonable solution. So have you got any success with it? And.. why guys from Play Framework project do not provide some Lombok-like solution? Anyway Play is full of code-generation magic and shadow compiling... so, why not?

• Problems with WiX and Visual Studio web deployment project

  Hello, I want to create an .MSI package from a web deployment project in Visual Studio 2008. Now we want to use continuous integration and we would need the .MSI package build in the nightly builds. Till now we used standard Visual Studio Web Setup project, but this is not compatible with the MSBuild. So we decided to use WiX. The problem is that I have not found any good tutorial/documentation about this. Is there a way to do a WiX installer package from a web deployment project? If yes, how? Also, I tried to use heat.exe to create the XML for the WiX project .wxs file, but it seems that heat.exe doesn't recognize the web deployment project format. Thank you for your responses. • Object Dump JavaScript

  Is there a 3rd party add-on/application or some way to perform object map dumping in script debugger for a JavaScript object? Here is the situation... I have a method being called twice, and during each time something is different. I'm not sure what is different, but something is. So, if I could dump all the properties of window (or at least window.document) into a text editor, I could compare the state between the two calls with a simple file diff. Thoughts? • Is there a logging facade for the .NET world?

  I'm somewhat new to the .NET stack and I was wondering if there is an equivalent to slf4j for the .NET platform. For me, logging to a Facade and being able to swap out logging implementations as needed just makes sense. Furthermore, the wrapper APIs available in slf4j have saved me many times when I needed to use a third-party library that was coded against a single logging framework that I wasn't using. Is there a project out there that acts as a facade between loggers like log4net, nLog and Enterprise Library? Are there wrappers that allow me to shortcut calls to those libraries and direct them to another library? Should I start out an open source project to do this myself? Is this question a duplicate because I don't know the right way to ask? Conversely, is the common way to do this using aspect orient programming?

What i usually do is: For every dll that reference the broken one Checkout dll Checkout vbp project Open vpb project with VB6 Ide Click on References button Uncheck MISSING reference and OK Click on References button Check references and OK Click on Make dll Close project This can be a pita activity, when you have many Dll to recompile and it can be error prone because you could miss some Dll (anyway we have continuous integration that alert this cases).   Large part of squeak is implemented using squeak itself. I am curious to know if pseudo variables such as self or true are also implemented using squeak. If the answer is yes, where the implementation located? Specifically, assume that I want to add new subclass of "Boolean" called "Other" which will represent a third option: neither true nor false. • Determine iPhone user's country

  I need to determine at startup what country a user is in, for an iPhone application. Presumably I will have to turn on location services and do some sort of reverse geocoding. I don't really want to use a third party web service if possible, are there any other suggestions for determining country from what location services provides? Initially, I only need to check whether the user is inside the US or not, but this may change in the future to add more countries. I understand that location can not always be determined or the user may have location services turned off. Basically, I just need to know if the user is detected as being inside the US, in order to turn off a specific feature.

  I have some 3rd party software where i can open nsites and run javascript. Because some sites make me stack overflow i ussed the trick wih Registry to modify Styles WRAD to FFFFFF. Still some sites may do stack overflow due to DOM. I thought on start of running each site i would do javascript: setTimeout("window.status='one';",10000); then on then end i would like to clear it - my question is how to if this doesnt have any actual id? Will the usual clearTimeout() without anything inside do it fine?

• Is generic Money<TAmount> a good implementation idea?

  I have a Money Type that allows math operations and is sensitive to exchange rates so it will reduce one currency to another if rate is available to calculate in a given currency, rounds by various methods. It has other features that are sensitive to money, but I need to ask if the basic data type used should be made generic in nature. I've realized that the basic data type to hold an amount may differ for financial situations, for example: retail money might be expressed as all cents using int or long where fractions of cents do not matter, decimal is commonly used for its fixed behaviour, sometimes double seems to be used for big finance and large values sometimes a special BigInteger or 3rd-party type is used. I want to know if it would be considered good form to turn Money into Money<T_amount> so it can be used in any one of the above chosen scenarios?

• Data import wizard library for .Net?

  Does anyone know of a 3rd party data import wizard that can be embedded into applications? It should import from Excel, Access, SQLServer, csv, tab-separated flat file, XML, Oracle etc. We have a fixed data structure within our application and the user should be able to configure the wizard to match his/her import fields to our own data structure. The wizard should be a library of sorts – preferably a .Net type library. We may want to have it both web-based and desktop based (hence we may need an ASP.Net controls version and a Winforms version). We may also want integration with WPF and Silverlight. If there’s no UI wizard available, does anyone know of a non-UI library that supports easily configurable import from many, many different datasources?

  What would be an easy expression to process command line arguments if I'm expecting anything like 001 or 999 (let's limit expectations to 001...999 range for this time), and few other arguments passed, and would like to ignore any unexpected? I understand if for example I need to find out if "debug" was passed among parameters it'll be something like that: if 'debug' in argv[1:]: print 'Will be running in debug mode.' How to find out if 009 or 575 was passed? All those are expected calls: python script.py python script.py 011 python script.py 256 debug python script.py 391 xls python script.py 999 debug pdf At this point I don't care about calls like that: python script.py 001 002 245 568 python script.py some unexpected argument python script.py 0001 python script.py 02 ...first one - because of more than one "numeric" argument; second - because of... well, unexpected arguments; third and fourth - because of non-3-digits arguments.

• Upload/Download images to FTP without bothering the user

  Hi, I know a lot of posts have been made in regards to FTP, but none have led me to what I need. I'm trying to upload a picture to a server (currently attempting FTP) but do it without notifying requiring the user to be involved. I want to be able to seamlessly upload/download the image when a certain user action occurs, but I don't want to use a third-party app like AndFTP. The idea is that a user will upload a picture, and then another user will be able to grab that picture based on which user put it up. No user will know where it's going or where it came from, nor will they navigate the FTP. Alternatively, does anyone have thoughts on a better way to do that? I thought of using the imgur api, but it can't be used commercially. It would, however, be perfect for my purposes. Is there a similar open-source alternative? Any help is greatly appreciated. Dan

  I am looking for a Chess AI that can be run on Google App Engine. Most chess AI's seem to be written in C and so can not be run on the GAE. It needs to be strong enough to beat a casual player, but efficient enough that it can calculate a move within a single request (less than 10 secs). I read the manual and set the third parament $strict as true,then it worked as expected.But does that mean I always need to set the strict parament as true when using in_array?Suggestions would be appreciated.   My application neeeds to access a third part web service. Of late, they have introduced a load balancer, which redirects to the server. Because of this the webservice gets a 302 - Redirect error as response. In the SOAPUI, I was able to enable a property called "Follow Redirect", and because of this service followed the redirect and served by the server. Now is there a similar propety that can be turned on in the code, which would make the webservice follow the request? (The calling code is java and the webservice is in .net)

  Afternoon all, I really need your help as this is a Nightmare! I was earlier having a problem with referencing a 3rd Party Dll (Here) but have overcome this problem and am now having a problem referencing my own classes! Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation Error: Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Secure' does not exist in the namespace 'source_extranet' (are you missing an assembly reference?) The line that the Error points to this line in the class: source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData newdata = new source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData(); This line of code points to a class in the same folder as the calling code class. I have scoured Google looking for an answer and haven't found anything that points me to an answer to my problem. Any help would be AMAZING!
