  • All embedded databases fail to open connections

    Hi, I'm working on a winforms desktop application that needs to store data. I made the really bad decision to try and embed a database. I've tried: SQLite VistaDB SQL Server Compact In each case, I was able to generate a Entity Framework Model over the basic schema I've created. I have an event that adds data that I've been using to test these databases. Well, I kept adding a new record using EF and finding it didn't actually insert a record. In debugging, I checked the context object to see what was happening. It turns out that it is saying "the underlying provider failed to open," or something to that effect. It was not throwing an exception, just not inserting a record. The same thing has happened for all 3 embedded databases--prompting me to get it through my dense head that there has to be something wrong with my configuration. Well, I tried to write some basic sql using a sqlconnection and sqlcommand. This time it throws an exception. In the SQL Server Compact case, it now says: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) I thought perhaps a problem was the path in app.Config. So I changed the connection string to: Note that I simplified the path away from anything that might have spaces and avoided using the Data Directory nonsense that causes problem when the debugging directory does not match the preconfigured value for the data directory. I'm running Windows 7; I thought perhaps it might be an access issue--so I tried running VS 2010 in Administrator mode. No luck. I also installed Sql Server Compact SP2, thinking this might be a bug. No luck. Anyway, I'm ready to pull my hair out. I'm on a tight deadline for this thing and didn't expect to spend the day trying to figure out what is going on.

    Our application makes use of QueryPerformanceCounter to measure timings. When running it on Amazon EC2 instances we are noticing number that are out of whack. The symptoms look very similar to what has been reported with virtualized machines on HP proreliant servers, however all the articles state that this was not the case for Windows Server 2008. The articles recommended modifing the boot.ini to /USEPMTIMER - however, this seem to be missing from the documentation on bcdedit - which replaced boot.ini

  • JPA - How to truncate tables between unit tests

    I want to cleanup the database after every test case without rolling back the transaction. I have tried DBUnit's DatabaseOperation.DELETE_ALL, but it does not work if a deletion violates a foreign key constraint. I know that I can disable foreign key checks, but that would also disable the checks for the tests (which I want to prevent). I'm using JUnit 4, JPA 2.0 (Eclipselink), and Derby's in-memory database.   • iPhone plist data, large amounts of text and return key?

    Basicly iv built my app using a plist. But with the data there is a few times when I need to press return and start a new line. The return key doesn't work in the plist. If I did it the older way it would be \n\n but that doesn't work either. Is there a obvious way I'm overlooking? Or will it be a case off just pressing the space bar allot? Thanks

  • jquery won't fade text if positioned: absolute;

    I have LI that I want to fade out and back in. Within the list item I have some text. This text is positioned absolutely within the LI. The catch is that in IE8 (IE6 and 7 seem fine) I can get everything to fade except the text: http://jsbin.com/esamu/13 If I remove the absolute positioning on the text element (in this case, a P), IE8 then can fade the text properly: http://jsbin.com/esamu/14 Anyone know why this is?     I'm trying to dynamically generate a report in a table where the borders are different on each side of a cell or row, but can't figure out how. The TableRow, TableCell, and Table objects each have a BorderStyle property, but it seems to apply to the entire border rather than just one side. Can this be done without nesting tables? For my case, I'd like a solid border around the first two rows of a table (because the first row has a cell spanning two rows), and a solid border around each subsequent row.

Also they generate sync SQL scripts when run from command line. What I need is an output as a comprehensive report ( XML , HTML ) suitable for parsing so that I would be able to show similar diff grid in my application ( updated old/new values for each column , added - all values for row , deleted - all values for row and etc... ) .
