• How can I plot a time series graph with Perl?

  I have some data from a database (SQLite), mapping a value (an integer) to a date. A date is a string with this format: YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm. The dates are not uniformly distributed. I want do draw a line graph with the dates on X and the values on Y. What is the easiest way to do this with Perl? I tried DBIx::Chart but I could not make it recognize my dates. I also tried GD::Graph, but as the documentation says: GD::Graph does not support numerical x axis the way it should. Data for X axes should be equally spaced

• Would this prevent the row from being read during the transaction?

  I remember an example where reads in a transaction then writing back the data is not safe because another transaction may read/write to it in the time between. So i would like to check the date and prevent the row from being modified or read until my transaction is finish. Would this do the trick? and are there any sql variants that this will not work on? update tbl set id=id where date>expire_date and id=@id Note: dateexpire_date happens to be my condition. It could be anything. Would this prevent other transaction from reading the row until i commit or rollback?

• How to read a column in a tab-delimited Excel file in C#?

  I have some data of an excel file below. At first, I figured that reading from the file could be done using the Excel Library then using an OLEDB connection. I managed to get the DocumentNo column data with the OLEDB approach. However, when the excel file is closed, I am unable to do the operation because it gives an error that "External table is not in the expected format."   I have a datagridview in a windows form with 3 columns: Serial number, Name and Date-Time. The Name column will always have either of the two values: "name1" or "name2". I need to sort these columns such that the grid displays all the rows with name values in a specific order (first display all the "name1" rows and then all the "name2" rows). Within the "name1" rows, I want the rows to be sorted by the Date-Time. Please note programmatically, all the 3 columns are strings.   i have 2 textboxes that i am filling with StartDate, and Endate. i want to use the compareValidator to make sure that the StartDate is less that the EndDate. i used this: <asp:CompareValidator ID="Comp" ControlToValidate="txtStartDate" ControlToCompare="txtEndDate" Operator="LessThan" Type="Date" runat="server" Display="dynamic" Text="Failed!" /> the validator is always giving me Failed no matter what the dates are. if startdateendate or vise versa, Failed appears. i am using (MM/dd/yyyy) format in the textboxes. • Inheritance vs specific types in Financial Modelling for cashflows

  Hello, I have to program some financial applications where I have to represent a schedule of flows. The flows can be of 3 types: - fee flow (just a lump payment at some date) - floating rate flow (the flow is dependant of an interest rate to be determined at a later date) - fixed rate flow (the flow is dependant of an interest rate determined when the deal is done) I need to keep the whole information and I need to represent a schedule of these flows. Originally I wanted to use inheritance and create three classes FeeFlow, FloatingFlow, FixedFlow all inheriting from ICashFlow and implement some method GetFlowType() returning an enum then I could dynamic_cast the object to the correct type. That would allow me to have only one vector to represent my schedule. What do you think of this design, should I rather use three vectors vector, vector and vector to avoid the dynamic casts ?

  The use case to model is the register of a new appointment. The user logins in the system as a patient (role). To make an appointment shoudl enter medical specialty and date. System shoudl look for the doctors availables for that specialty on that date. From the results patient should choose one and then system save the appointment. At the end user shoudl receive an email with the information of the appointment. The classes that I have in my model are: User PAtient Doctor Appointment DoctorShcedule and some more but I think these ones will be involve.   I need to craft a filter for an object that checks date ranges. Right now I'm performing a very inefficient loop which checks all the objects. I would like to simplify this to a database call. The logic is you have a start and an end date objects. I need to check if the start OR the end is within the range of an appointment. if (start >= appointment.start && start < appointment.end) || (end > appointment.start && end <= appointment.end) I could do this in SQL, but I'm not as familiar with the Django model structure for more complex queries.

• Python script run via cron does not execute occassionally

  I have a simple python script for fetching tweets and caching them to disk that is configured to run every two minutes via cron. */2 * * * * (date ; /usr/bin/python /path/get_tweets.py) >> /path/log/get_tweets.log 2>&1 The script runs successfully most of the time. However, every so often the script doesn't execute. In addition to other logging, I added a simple print statement above the meat of the script and nothing except the output from the initial date command makes it to the log. #!/usr/bin/python # Script for fetching tweets and then storing them as an HTML snippet for inclusion using SSI print "Starting get_tweets.py" Any ideas?   Hi all, I have recently started to use Kohana and I know inheritance is in infancy stages at the moment. The work around is using a $_has_one annotation on the child class model. In may case i have "page" as the parent of "article". I have something like, protected $_has_one = array('mypage'=>array('model'=>'page', 'foreign_key'=>'id')); In my controller, I have an action which queries the database. In this query I am trying to access fields form the parent of "article" which is the "page". $n->articles=ORM::factory('article')->where('expires','=',0) ->where('articledate','<',date('y-m-d')) ->where('expirydate','>',date('y-m-d')) ->where('mypage->status','=','PUBLISHED') ->order_by('articledate','desc') ->find_all(); The status column resides in the page table and my query is generating an error to the effect of "cannot find status", clearly because it belongs to the parent. Any ideas ?

  I'm using NSDate to get a string such as "18 Jun 09", with code: NSDate *theDate = [NSDate date]; NSString *dateString = [theDate descriptionWithCalendarFormat:@"%d %b %y" timeZone:nil locale: nil]; This works, but only results in an English output. I need the output to be localized in the user's default language. Does Cocoa (Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 in this case) provide a facility for this localization or do I have to manually localize for each case of day and & month names my self? (I have provided a locale, but although that does provide a locale-specific ordering of the date, it does not appear to do any localization of day-month names.)

  I would like to customize the name of the tab in Tilda (I guess that it doesn't change anything from the Gnome-terminal's behavior), but I can't find the exact sequence ... so far, I figured out that Bash does it when displaying my PS1 prompt: echo $PS1 \[\e]0;HELLO\a\]\[\033[01;32m\]\u\[\033[00m\]@\[\033[1;35m\]\h\[\033[00m\]:\[\033[01;34m\]\[\033[00m\] I guess that \[\e]0;HELLO\a\] is responsible for the title to be set to 'HELLO', but when I start echo -ne "\[\e]0;HELLO WORLD\a\]" only writes '[]' what's wrong with my command ?

It is not working: The job is started on server, but I still get the output on myPc and bash wait for completion prior to asking me for another command. Why ? It's not supposed to !   I have an asp:calendar on my view page and as I hover over it..it shows a javascript postback status bar. but I have an asp:button also on the same page and when I hover over it. The action from the controller is in the status bar..because I have an onClick attribute for the button that triggers an action on the server side. and in the asp:calendar I also have a trigger event OnSelectionChanged the has a method on the server side...but as I said when I hover over the calendar to pick a date in the status bar it shows:javascript:_doPostBack($ct100ContentPlaceHolder?mycalendar',''3270) and when I click a date I receive an error that says object doesnt support this method..Also mycalendar is the id name of the asp:calendar

  I have an SSAS cube containing customers and their purchased memberships (let's say magazines). I want to calculate the retention. I.e. how many customers remain a customer. To do this I specify a set (males, 30yrs, 1 january 2011). I want to see if this set - identified by a customer number - is still present in the following months. I named my set MySet2. What I try to do is: sum(measures.amount, [membership].[name].&[X], MySet2, [date].[date].currentmember) However, the result is incorrect. The number is far to low. I suspect it still tries to account for all the males of 30 years old, but after a year they're not 30 anymore. What am I missing? I looked at scope and filter, but I'm not sure how to apply it.
