  • Help with cron syntax

    I need to setup a cronjob on my webhost. The documentation for my webapp reads as follows: you will need to create following cronjob: /public_html/cake/console/cake -app /public_html/app master Also, I want any output written to a log file. My hosts documentation says this: You can have cron send an email everytime it runs a command. If you do not want an email to be sent for an individual cron job you can redirect the command's output to /dev/null like this: mycommand /dev/null 2&1 Can someone help me write the cron job? I dont know the syntax at all. Thanks for the help!

  • eth0 not working on startup

    Hi to all, This might sound strange but, working with my Lubuntu 10.04 i've experienced troubles when connecting to my eth0 newtwork. After some googling, i've found out that by writting in the CLI the following command: mii-tool eth0 -F 10baseT-FD and activating the eth0 in the toolbar (by clicking "activate eth0") everything works just fine. Well, up to now, i did not have any problem, because every time i turned on the computer i had to do this, but it was very little effort.But now, i would like to use the machine as a file server, accesing it by ssh, without monitor or keyboard. So, i won't be able to make this actions, and can't do this at startup because mii-tool needs root permissions. So, the question is: Do you know what does that command do, and how can id make that change permanent? Or do you know any other solution for my problem? I hope i was clear! If not, tell me and i'll try to be as clearer as possible. Thanks in advance!

  • Samba: map domain group to local one

    I have a problem with mapping pure domain group to one existing on UNIX system. When I map NT domain account by default samba picks local SID - one that can be acquired via the command; net getlocalsid Instead of SID that comes from domain; net getdomainsid This is the behavior that I do not understand. I can explicitly set the SID to the domain one. E.g.: net groupmap add sid=[DOMAIN SID]-[RID] ntgroup=[DOMAIN group] unixgroup=[UNIX group] type=l However the command getent group | grep 'DOMAIN group indicates this group to be domain one - GID created in accordance to RID backend in use, not the GID of 'UNIX group' as expected. Worth to mention I use the winbind. Strange thing is that I already have such mapping in place for other 'DOMAIN group2' that getent group reports with GID of local UNIX group with all members of the 'DOMAIN group2'. Now the question is how to populate such behavior for other of my groups???

    In command line I wrote: michael@ubuntu:~$ firefox Firefox launched. Command prompt ($) disappeared. Then I pressed ^+z. The result was: [1]+ Stopped firefox Well, Firefox really stopped. It did not react anyhow. So, I could not close it by pressing the cross of the window. By the way, the menu items 'Tools', and 'Help' somehow showed some signs of life. They showed drop-down lists, but nothing more (no reaction to inner menu items). Well, I could not end Firefox through System Monitor. Could you comment on this case: what happened after pressing ^+z?

    First When i downloaded java from official website i got confused how to install it. den i searched it on software center and i got it. but wen i install it, it starts but instantly stops and the line highlighting the installation status in progress tab doesn't move forward.den i searched on internet and tried installing it by terminal but he terminal says that u have to first configure something that i dont know but it tells me to run this command-"sudo dpkg-configure -a" and when i run this command the terminal process stops in the middle and even after leaving it for about an hour it doesn't proceed further.. after that when i press the close button of the terminal if shows that some tasks are in progress and closing the terminal would...bla bla bla... so i am greatly confused because even other software's like gimp image editor and all are not getting installed.. please help me..!!

    I want have a script that I can give to friends which will add repositories and download files, install them without having to use command as they are not command line savey and have no desire to learn. I need to know how to get the script to prompt them for the root password to allow them to do some of these functions. How would I go about this? Please don't hate on them.. Getting them to start using Linux was a big step and I am just happy that they are attempting something new... and it was in the open source world..

  • Does GPG allow encryption of multiple files using a wild card like *filename*? [on hold]

    I am trying to automate the encryption of files on a windows server using a .bat file I created. As long as the filename is hardcoded in the .bat file this works. I want to encrypt numerous files using this .bat file but files are not encrypted when I use wildcards in the filename like filename.txt. I've been trying various version of the following command at the DOS prompt to no avail. All attempts have returned syntax for usage. C:\gpg -v --batch -- yes --always-trust -e -r <encryption-key> *part-of-the-file-name* usage: gpg [options] --encrypt [filename] I received the same usage message with this command: C:\gpg -v --batch -- yes --always-trust -e -r --encrypt part-of-the-file-name I tried without the -v and some of the other options and I still received the same message. I have spent hours today searching the internet for an answer and I can't find one anywhere? Please help.

    I have developed an ASP.NET MVC Web Application to execute PowerShell scripts. I am using the VS web server and can execute scripts fine. However, a requirement is that users are able to execute scripts against AD to perform actions that their own user accounts are not allowed to do. Therefore I am using impersonation to switch the identity before creating the PowerShell runspace: Runspace runspace = RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace(config); var currentuser = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name; if (runspace.RunspaceStateInfo.State == RunspaceState.BeforeOpen) { runspace.Open(); } I have tested using a domain admin account and I get the following exception when calling runspace.Open(): Security Exception Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file. Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is not allowed. The web application is running in full trust and I have explicitly added the account I am using for impersonation to the local administrators group of the machine (even though the domain admins group was already there). I'm using advapi32.dll LogonUser call to perform the impersonation in a similar way to this post (http://blogs.msdn.com/webdav_101/archive/2008/09/25/howto-calling-exchange-powershell-from-an-impersonated-thead.aspx) Any help appreciated as this is a bit of a show stopper at the moment.     In my Android app I am sharing one httpclient for all activities/threads. All requests are made by callling getHttpClient().execute(httpget) or getHttpClient().execute(httppost). Is this implementation complete/correct and safe for multiple threads?   • Visual Studio compiles WPF application twice during build

    I have a WPF app in VS2008 that compiles twice during the build. The two CSC command lines are similar but with some differences. The first CSC command line does not have an /resource options, the second has two /resource options on the command line.   • Mercurial hg clone on Windows via ssh with copSSH issue

    I have a Windows Server 2008 machine (iis7) that has CopSSH set up on it. To connect to it, I have a Windows 7 machine with Mercurial 1.5.1 (and TortoiseHg) installed. I can connect to the server using PuTTY with a non-standard ssh port and a .ppk file just fine. So I know the server can be SSH'd into. Next, I wanted to use the CLI to connect via hg clone to get a private repo. I've seen elsewhere that you need to have ssh configured in your mercurial.ini file, so my mercurial.ini has a line: ssh = plink.exe -ssh -C -l username -P #### -i "C:/Program Files/PuTTY/Key Files/KyleKey.ppk" Note: username is filled in with the username I set up via copSSH. #### is filled in with the non-standard ssh port I've defined for copSSH. I try to do the command hg clone ssh://inthom.com but I get this error: remote: bash: inthom.com: command not found abort: no suitable response from remote hg! It looks like hg or plink parses the hostname such that it thinks that inthom.com is a command instead of the server to ssh to. That's really odd. Next, I tried to just use plink to connect by plink -P #### ssh://inthom.com, and I am then prompted for my username, and next password. I enter them both and then I get this error: bash: ssh://inthom.com: No such file or directory So now it looks like plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly. I fiddled around for a while trying to figure out how to do call hg clone with an empty ssh:// field and eventually figured out that this command allows me to reach the server and clone a test repo on the inthom.com server: hg clone ssh://!/Repos/test ! is the character I've found that let's me leave the hostname blank, but specify the repo folder to clone. What I really don't understand is how plink knows what server to ssh to at all. neither my mercurial.ini nor the command specify a server. None of the hg clone examples I've seen have a ! character. They all use an address, which makes sense, so you can connect to any repo via ssh that you want to clone. My only guess is that it somehow defaults to the last server I used PuTTY to SSH to, but I SSH'd into another server, and then tried to use plink to get to it, but plink still defaults to inthom.com (verified with the -v arg to plink). So I am at a loss as to how plink gets this server value at all. For "fun", I tried using TortoiseHg and can only clone a repo when I use ssh://!/Repos/test as the Source. Now, you can see that, since plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly, I had to specify the port number and username in the mercurial.ini file, instead of in the hostname like [email protected]:#### like you'd expect to. Trying to figure this out at first drove me insane, because I would get errors that the host couldn't be reached, which I knew shouldn't be the case. My question is how can I configure my setup so that ssh://[email protected]:####/Repos/test is parsed correctly as the username, hostname, port number, and repo to copy? Is it something wrong with the version of plink that I'm using, or is there some setting I may have messed up? If it is plink's fault, is there an alternative tool I can use? I'm going to try to get my friend set up to connect to this same repo, so I'd like to have a clean solution instead of this ! business. Especially when I have no idea how plink gets this default server, so I'm not sure if he'd even be able to get to inthom.com correctly. PS. I've had to use a ton of different tutorials to even get to this stage. Therefore, I haven't tried pushing any changes to the server yet. Hopefully I'll get this figured out and then I can try pushing changes to the repo.

    I've had a set of legacy pages running on my IIS7 server for at least a year. Sometime last week something changed and now this line: Response.Write CStr(myRS(0).name) & "=" & Cstr(myRS(0).value) which used to return nothing more exciting than the string: 'Updated=true' (the sproc processing input params, stores them to a table, checks for errors and when that's all done returns a success code by executing this statement: select 'true' as [Updated] Now my pageside error handler is being involved and offers: myError=Error from /logQuizScore.asp Error source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error Error number: 13 Error description: Type mismatch Important to note that all lots of pages use the same framework - same db, same coding format, connecitonstrings and (so far as I can tell) all others are working. Troubleshot to this point: The call to the stored procedure is working correctly (stuff is stored to the given table). The output from the stored procedure is working correctly (i can execute a direct call with the given parameters and stuff works. I can see profiler calling and passing. I can replace all code with 'select 'true' as updated' and the error is the same. everything up to the response.write statement above is correct. So something changed how ADO renders that particular recordset.   • Why is Selenium RC so slow?

    Hi. For some time I have been investigating Selenium RC in order to do functional testing of my web application. I have now found a test strategy that is so effective, that I do not want to move away from Selenium RC (after spending weeks trying to figure out a good way to validate ASP.NET validation controls). But now that my Selenium RC adventure is moving from a POC to be something that I actually use, I'm running into a problem. It is insanely slow. Executing a single test that loads a page, fills in some fields, and clicks a button takes in the magnitude of seconds to execute. When it is executing, I can easily see each individual field being filled out one at a time. Using Selenium IDE in Firefox is not that slow. I found this page, that clearly specifies that Selenium RC is slow http://selenium-grid.seleniumhq.org/how_it_works.html But why is that? Is it because the browser is polling the selenium server? If so, can this polling interval not be modified? Or is there another reason. I am not accustomed to a remote call taking a humanly noticable amount of time to execute. It is horrible that executing a few tests should take so long. I can execute my entire presentation (MVP), business, and database layer test suite (500+ tests) way quicker than it takes to run 10 tests for a single web page.

    I'm connection to mssql server through pyodbc, via FreeTDS odbc driver, on linux ubuntu 10.04. Sqlalchemy 0.5 uses DATETIME for sqlalchemy.Date() fields. Now Sqlalchemy 0.6 uses DATE, but sql server 2000 doesn't have a DATE type. How can I make DATETIME be the default for sqlalchemy.Date() on sqlalchemy 0.6 mssql+pyodbc dialect? I'd like to keep it as clean as possible. In the original title and in the text of my Q, i referred to the source of the thrown exception; what i meant, and what i should have referred to, as pointed out in one of the high-strung but otherwise helpful response below, is the module that the exception class is defined in. This is evidenced by the fact that, again, as pointed out in one of the answers below the answer to the original Q is that the exceptions were thrown from calls to cursor.execute and cursor.next, respectively--which of course, isn't the information you need to write the try/except block.     Our SSIS pacakges a structured as one Control package and many child packages (about 30) that are invoked from the control package. The child packages are invoked with Execute Package Task. There is one Execute Package Task per child package. Each Execute Package Task uses File Connection Manager to specify path to the child package dtsx file. There is one File Connection Manager per child package. Each File Connection Manager has an expression defined for ConnectionString property. This expression looks like this: @[Template::FolderPackages]+"MyPackage.dtsx", the file name is different for each package. The variable (FolderPackages) is specified in the SSIS package configuration file. The error that is generated during run time is "Error 0x80070002 while loading package file "MyPackage.dtsx". The system cannot find the file specified." The package that fails is different from run to run and sometimes no packages fail at all. This is when run on exactly the same environment/data etc. I ran FileMon during this error and found out that when the error happens SSIS tries to read the dtsx file from a wrong place, namely from system32. I checked that this is identical to what would happen if @[Template::FolderPackages] variable were empty, but because the very same variable is used for every child package and works for some but doesn't work sometimes for others, I have no expalnation to this fact. Anything obvious, or time to raise a support call with Microsoft?

  • Can't get heroku work with rails 3.x postgresql

    I followed Heroku official guides to push rails project to heroku. The application.rb file is ok, I added pg gem and database.yml in the right way.
