• WCF - Cross platform question

  Hi Team, I have a simple WCF service, self hosting and a .net client. I am generating a proxy using svcutil. When I add the proxy to the client it asks me to add System.ServiceModel.dll. Well, I can add it since it is a test scenario and I am working in .Net platform. However, suppose I am using a machine that does not support .Net, how that platform would compensate for the System.ServiceModel? Could you please put some light on it? Thanks Lijo

• Quaddratic Bezier Curve: Calculate Tangent

  Hello, I have have a quadratic bezier curve and I want to calculate the slope of the tangent in a given point. For example, let it be the middlepoint of the quadratic bezier curve, therefore t=0.5 (please see the link below for a picture of this). I've calculated the first derivation of the formula for the quadratic bezier curve, however I get 400 as value for the slope, though it should be 0. Maybe I'm using the first derivation in a wrong way? I know I could also calculate the tangents using trigonometric functions, however I'd like to do it using the first derivation, shouldn't this be possible? Thanks for any hint! For clarification / please note: I'm interested in a general way to get the slope in a arbitrary given point on a quadratic bezier curve, not only to get the tangent in the start- and end point. • Is is possible to to have a depends on a jQuery remote validation?

  I am using jQuery remote validation to check if the description is already being used. So is it possible to only run the remote validation if the text field is different to what was originally in it? I noticed the the jQuery required validation has a depends option, but I couldn't get it to work with the remote call.

  I'm using mongo_mapper 0.7.5 and rails 2.3.8, and I have an instance method that works in my console, but not in the controller of my actual app. I have no idea why this is. #controller if @friendship.save user1.add_friend(user2) ... #model ... key :friends_count, Integer, :default => 0 key :followers_count, Integer, :default => 0 def add_friend(user) ... self.increment(:friends_count => 1) user.increment(:followers_count => 1) true end And this works in the console, but in the controller it does not change the follower count, only the friends count. What gives? The only thing I can even think of is that the way that I'm passing the user in is the problem, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

  Hello everyone. I'm trying to make a self hosted WCF app that uses nettcpbinding but works in an environment without a domain. It's just two regular windows pc's, one is the server and the other one will be the client. The problem with this is that when I try to get the client to connect it's rejected because of the security settings. Can you please point me in the right direction as to how I can get this scenario to work? Should I (if possible) disable security? Is there another (hopefully simple) way to accomplish this?   I have a UIViewController(AbcViewController) with NavigationController.AbcViewController uses UIView(AbcView) as its view. AbcView has a UITableView. I have set This TableView's datasource in AbcViewController and delegate in its SuperView i.e. AbcView. How will I push another UIViewController(XyzViewcontroller) into navigationController when I select a row in this table because it gives "error: request for member 'navigationController' in something not a structure or union" when I do this : [self.navigationController pushViewController:xyzViewcontroller animated:TRUE]; I also did this : AbcViewController *parentVC; [parentVC.navigationController pushViewController:xyzViewcontroller animated:TRUE]; Though it builds successfully but XyzViewcontroller's view does not appear. • IMetadataExchange endpoint purpose

  What is the purpose of IMetadataExchange endpoint. Some places i found that if i dont define this endpoint, adding service reference will not work OR creating proxy using svcutil wont work. But both of this working without having IMetadataExchange defined. If we have other endpoint with httpGetEnabled = true, we are able to create proxy from client. Also, some article says that we should delete IMetadataExchange before moving code to production and it should development period only so that other client cant see metadata. Doesnt this stop the behaviour of service having self describing itself? And if I have defined this IMetadataExchange endpoint, how can i see that on browser. Address whoch i have provided for this endpoint is not pulling any metadata in browser.

• Face recognition Library

  I'm looking for a free face recognition library for a university project. I'm not looking for face detection. I'm looking for actual recognition. That means finding images that contain specified faces or libraries that calculate distances between specific faces. I'm using OpenCV for detecting the faces and a rough Eigenfaces Algorithm for the recognition now. But I thought there should be something out there with a better performance then a self written Eigenfaces Algorithm. I don't talk about speed as performance I'm looking for a library with better results as an simple Eigenfaces approach I took a look at faint but it seems the library is not very reusable for my own applications. I'm happy with a library in Python, Java, C++, C or something like that. The best thing would be if it can be run on a Windowsmachine

• Is it possible to hide the tabbar when a button is pressed to allow a full screen view of the conten

  I have a UITabBar in the detail view of my navigation based application. I am storing text and images in a tableview and would like the user to be able to tap on a cell to hide the navigation controller and the tabbar for full screen viewing of the content. I found this code for hiding the top bars, but it does not seem as easy to hide the tabbar. [[UIApplication sharedApplication] setStatusBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; [self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:YES]; Does anyone know how to do this?   This is the regular expression used for "shortcodes" in WordPress (one for the whole tag, other for the attributes). return '(.?)\[('.$tagregexp.')\b(.*?)(?:(\/))?\](?:(.+?)\[\/\2\])?(.?)'; $pattern = '/(\w+)\s*=\s*"([^"]*)"(?:\s|$)|(\w+)\s*=\s*\'([^\']*)\'(?:\s|$)|(\w+)\s*=\s*([^\s\'"]+)(?:\s|$)|"([^"]*)"(?:\s|$)|(\S+)(?:\s|$)/'; It parses stuff like [foo bar="baz"]content[/foo] or [foo /] In the WordPress trac they say it's a bit flawed, but my main problem is that it don't support shortcodes inside the attributes, like in [foo bar="[baz /]"]content[/foo] because the regex stops the main shortcode at the first appearance of a closing bracket, so in the example it renders [foo bar="[baz /] and "]content[/foo] shows as it is. Is there any way to change the regex so it bypass any ocurrence of [ with ] and its content when occurs between the opening tag or self-closing tag?

  I'm trying to figure out how to integrate django-registration with django-paypal. Being a Django n00b, I'm trying to figure out how to implement a flow like this: User signs up using django-registation with 'active' flag set to 0 After registering, send user to PayPal for a subscription When they come back from PayPal successfully, I want to set 'active' to 1 I've been looking at the django-registration documentation and don't quite understand how to use different backends or implement a flow the way I want. Any tips on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. django-paypal won't be a problem for me as I've done PayPal integration before (in PHP for a self-published book about CakePHP).

• Difference between implementing an interface and applying an attribute in C#

  This might be a stupid question but Ill ask anyway, I was reading "OOP Demystified: A Self-Teaching Guide by Jim Keogh and Mario Giannini" chapter 11 which covers interfaces. The examples in this book are C++. I noticed that C++ uses ISerializable to make a class serializable which you would implement where as in C# you just attribute the class with the [Serializable] attribute. What is the key difference here? Is it that with an interface you must provide the implementation where as if you attribute something the compiler will work out the implementation for you? I guess that with the [Serializable] attribute the .Net framework uses reflection to make the serialized object from the actual object. That said is it possible in that case to have an [Disposable] attribute or using my theory above the framework wont know how to actually dispose of an object hence you have to do it yourself? Would be grateful for a clarification. Thanks.

• Objective-C Pointer to class that implements a protocol

  I have three classes which implement the same protocol, and have the same parent class which doesn't implement the protocol. Normally I would have the protocol as pure virtual functions in the parent class but I couldn't find an Objective-C way to do that. How can I utilize polymorphism on these subclasses and call the functions implemented in the protocol without warnings? Some pseudocode if that didn't make sense: @interface superclass: NSObject {} @interface child1: superclass<MyProtocol> {} @interface child2: superclass<MyProtocol> {} The consumer of these classes: @class child1 @class child2 @class superclass @interface SomeViewController: UIViewController { child1 *oneView; child2 *otherView; superclass *currentView; } -(void) someMethod { [currentView protocolFunction]; } The only nice way I've found to do pure virtual functions in Objective-C is a hack by putting [self doesNotRecognizeSelector:_cmd]; in the parent class, but it isn't ideal.

• How do I force one method to be executed before another method?

  I've got 2 methods. One method starts playing an audio file (.mp3), the other method updates a UIToolBar to show a button (PLAY or PAUSE). These two methods are called in the following order: //Adds some UIBarButtonItems to a UIToolBar [self togglePlayer]; //Uses AVAudioPlayer [audioPlayer play]; I call the methods in the above order so that the (pause) button will be shown at the time the song starts playing. But, the problem is that the song starts playing first, and the UIToolBar remains unchanged for quite a while (from 2 to 5 secs) until the button is added and shown. What I want is for the button to be shown at the same time the song starts playing (i.e. NO DELAY). Is there any way to do this?

  One thing I love about ruby is that mostly it is a very readable language (which is great for self-documenting code) However, inspired by this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/609612/ruby-code-explained and the description of how ||= works in ruby, I was thinking about the ruby idioms I don't use, as frankly, I don't fully grok them. So my question is, similar to the example from the referenced question, what common, but not obvious, ruby idioms do I need to be aware of to be a truly proficient ruby programmer? By the way, from the referenced question a ||= b is equivalent to if a == nil || a == false a = b end (Thanks to Ian Terrell for the correction) Edit: It turns out this point is not totally uncontroversial. • cakePHP paginate with post data without sessions, serialization or post to get

  I have created a small search and filter form method post in controller/index, which posts to it self the conditions and fields to paginate ( $this-paginate($conditions) ) However that is good for the first page, the subsequent pages the filer conditions are lost. pagination passArgs supports get variables well. Is there an un complex way to pass the post conditions to the other paginated pages? The method I have looked at is pass the $conditions in session , which isnt without complexity of assigning session and unset the session on submitting the form again (more refinements to the filter criteria by the user ) The other method is passing the $conditions as serialized string url_encode as an get parameter. Is there an good cake way to do this more like passArgs, sessions and url encode do not look like cake style. Thanks

  If I had a date picker within an action sheet and called the following line: [datePicker setDate:newDate animated:YES]; And then my app hides the action sheet the date picker is within, is there anyway to set up a animation delegate so that the user see's the animation of the date picker first and then hides the action sheet? I have done this with UIView's by calling: [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(METHOD)]; However I can not see anything like this for the date picker.
