• How to change the icon in the title bar in R?

  I just installed R 2.11.0-x64 onto my Windows 7 Professional machine. With my previous installations of R (2.10.1 32 bit was the most recent) the little icon that appeared in the title bar and in the taskbar at the bottom of windows was the R "R." Now however, the icon almost looks like a small windows Task Manager. I know this isn't a code issue, but it affects me as I flip between windows. Is there a way to put the "R" icon back in there? Would it be an R setting or a Windows setting?

• Column.DbType affecting runtime behavior

  Hi According to the MSDN docs, the DbType property/attribute of a Column type/element is only used for database creation. Yet, today, when trying to submit data to an IMAGE column on a SQLCE database (not sure if only on CE), I got an exception of 'Data truncated to 8000 bytes'. This was due to the DbType still being defined as VARBINARY(MAX) which SQLCE does not support. Changing the type to IMAGE in the DbType fixes the issue. So what other surprises does Linq2SQL attributes hold in store? Is this a bug or intended? Should I report it to MS? UPDATE After getting the answer from Guffa, I tested it, but it seems for NVARCHAR(10) adding a 11 char length string causes a SQL exception, and not Linq2SQL one. The data was truncated while converting from one data type to another.   I have 2 arrays in 2D, where the column vectors are feature vectors. One array is of size F x A, the other of F x B, where A << B. As an example, for A = 2 and F = 3 (B can be anything): arr1 = np.array( [[1, 4], [2, 5], [3, 6]] ) arr2 = np.array( [[1, 4, 7, 10, ..], [2, 5, 8, 11, ..], [3, 6, 9, 12, ..]] ) I want to calculate the distance between arr1 and a fragment of arr2 that is of equal size (in this case, 3x2), for each possible fragment of arr2. The column vectors are independent of each other, so I believe I should calculate the distance between each column vector in arr1 and a collection of column vectors ranging from i to i + A from arr2 and take the sum of these distances (not sure though). Does numpy offer an efficient way of doing this, or will I have to take slices from the second array and, using another loop, calculate the distance between each column vector in arr1 and the corresponding column vector in the slice?

• Doctrine SQL Server uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

• Using reshape + cast to aggregate over multiple columns

  In R, I have a data frame with columns for Seat (factor), Party (factor) and Votes (numeric). I want to create a summary data frame with columns for Seat, Winning party, and Vote share. For example, from the data frame df <- data.frame(party=rep(c('Lab','C','LD'),times=4), votes=c(1,12,2,11,3,10,4,9,5,8,6,15), seat=rep(c('A','B','C','D'),each=3)) I want to get the output seat winner voteshare 1 A C 0.8000000 2 B Lab 0.4583333 3 C C 0.5000000 4 D LD 0.5172414 I can figure out how to achieve this. But I'm sure there must be a better way, probably a cunning one-liner using Hadley Wickham's reshape package. Any suggestions? For what it's worth, my solution uses a function from my package djwutils_2.10.zip and is invoked as follows. • Git doesn't sync files until committed, even if checked out in a different branch

  Okay, I have git 1.7.11.1 on Windows and I have a local test repository with 2 branches. One is master with index.php and help.php. I then create another branch called slave :) I run from git bash rm help.php and it disappears from the folder, but I don't stage anything. I switch to checkout master branch and it is supposed to restore file help.php because it is not modified in the master branch, isn't it? And it does not do it. When I go back to the slave branch and commit and then switch to checkout master then help.php appears. Is that the way it is supposed to to work? Why?

  I have a problem, I am trying to calculate what the lowest prime is of a number but I do not understand the result that PHP is giving me. If I have this number $number = 600851475143; Then I modulus it: $primes = array( 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, 97); foreach($primes as $key=>$value) { if($number % $value == 0 ) {echo $value; break; } } Why is it that $value = 3? If $value = 3, that means that 600851475143 / 3 should be an integer, but its not. So I do not understand why that if() evaluates to true?
