• How to animate the command line?

  I have always wondered how people update a previous line in a command line. a great example of this is when using the wget command in linux. It creates an ASCII loading bar of sorts that looks like this: [======                    ] 37% and of course the loading bar moves and the percent changes, But it doesn't make a new line. I cannot figure out how to do this. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  I'd like to change {foo, {bar}, foobar} to {foo, bar, foobar} in all rows that match '{.*{'. I.e. remove all curly braces { and } except the outer most pair. So doing mysql -h $H -u $U -p$P $DB -B -e "SELECT id FROM t WHERE col REGEXP '{.*{'" > bad.txt selects all the rows that will need this substitution. How do I make this substitution very quickly? EDIT: Could I do it by update table set column = REPLACE(column,'{',''); Then restore the out most pair update table set column = REPLACE(column,'^','{'); update table set column = REPLACE(column,'$','}');

Also, I need to check if the child form's title bar is not hidden under the mdi form (e.g title bar might get hidden because of mdi form's menus). • Global variable in a recursive function how to keep it at zero?

  So if I have a recursive function with a global variable var_: int var_; void foo() { if(var_ == 3) return; else var_++; foo(); } and then I have a function that calls foo() so: void bar() { foo(); return; } what is the best way to set var_ =0 everytime foo is called thats not from within itself. I know I could just do: void bar() { var_ =0; foo(); return; } but I'm using the recursive function a lot and I don't want to call foo and forget to set var_=0 at a later date. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this? Thanks, Josh

I want to find all values in data that contain 'underscore r underscore'.   Seems unlikely, but is there any way to generate a set of unit tests for the following rewrite rule: RewriteRule ^/(user|group|country)/([a-z]+)/(photos|videos)$ http:/whatever?type=$1&entity=$2&resource=$3 From this I'd like to generate a set of urls of the form: /user/foo/photos /user/bar/photos /group/baz/videos /country/bar/photos etc... The reason I don't want to just do this once by hand is that I'd like the bounded alternation groups (e.g. (user|group|country)) to be able to grow and maintain coverage without having the update the tests by hand. Is there a rewrite rule or regex parser that might be able to do this, or am I doing it by hand?

  I'd like to have a submit button that submits a different value than is displayed on the button. With <input type="submit"> you can't seem to do this. With <button type="submit"> however, these can be two different values. The question is, will it work in all browsers? Trying this test code here: <form method="get" action=""> <input type="text" name="txt"/> <button type="submit" name="btn" value="val">text</button> </form> In FF 3.6 it updates my address bar with both values appropriately (and responds to me pressing enter in the text box). In IE 8, it also accepts pressing enter, displays the text value in the address bar, but it show the button's value as a GET param at all... does that mean it's not submitting it?

• jQuery: Scroll the window then addClass() - how to callback

  Inside a jQuery event handler, I would like to scroll the window and then add a class to something. This is my code: $('#foo').click(function() { window.scrollTo(y); $('#bar').addClass('active'); }); $(window).scroll(function() { $('#bar').removeClass('active'); }); Notice I have another handler to remove that same class whenever the window is scrolled. The scrolling part works fine, but seems to run asynchronously, so removeClass() happens after addClass() but before the scrolling is finished. I don't know how to do this in plain javascript. I know there is a jQuery scrollTop() function that does the same thing (but seems to have cross-browser issues), but it doesn't accept a callback. What I really need is a callback to add the class after the scrolling is finished. thanks!

  In the book "Programming in Scala" from Martin Odersky there is a simple example in the first chapter: var capital = Map("US" -> "Washington", "France" -> "Paris") capital += ("Japan" -> "Tokyo") The second line can also be written as capital = capital + ("Japan" -> "Tokyo") I am curious about the += notation. In the class Map, I didn't found a += method. I was able to the same behaviour in an own example like class Foo() { def +(value:String) = { println(value) this } } object Main { def main(args: Array[String]) = { var foo = new Foo() foo = foo + "bar" foo += "bar" } } I am questioning myself, why the += notation is possible. It doesn't work if the method in the class Foo is called test for example. This lead me to the prefix notation. Is the + a prefix notation for the assignment sign (=)? Can somebody explain this behaviour?

• learning C++ from java, trying to make a linked list.

  I just started learning c++ (coming from java) and am having some serious problems with doing anything :P Currently, i am attempting to make a linked list, but must be doing something stupid cause i keep getting "void value not ignored as it ought to be" compile errors (i have it marked where it is throwing it bellow). If anyone could help me with what im doing wrong, i would be very grateful :) Also, I am not used to having the choice of passing by reference, address, or value, and memory management in general (currently i have all my nodes and the data declared on the heap). • UISearchBarDisplayController - Fixed SearchBar

  I've been trying to get UISearchBarDisplayController to not animate, and stay fixed below the navigation bar. Is this even possible, I've been getting some weird results. This is all configured through a storyboard. I am just trying to figure out If I should just create my own implementation of UISearchBarDisplayController since it kinda seems a little impossible to customize it to my need. Clicking the search box When I start searching the top has extra paddding (20pt). It's assuming its on top of the origin y: 0 to prevent overlapping of status bar. • Process requires redirected input

  I have a UNIX native executable that requires the arguments to be fed in like this prog.exe < foo.txt. foo.txt has two lines: bar baz I am using java.lang.ProcessBuilder to execute this command. Unfortunately, prog.exe will only work using the redirect from a file. Is there some way I can mimic this behavior in Java? Of course, ProcessBuilder pb = new ProcessBuilder("prog.exe", "bar", "baz"); does not work. Thanks!

  I have a multidimensional array in python like: arr = [['foo', 1], ['bar',2]] Now, if I want to print out everything in the array, I could do: print(arr[:][:]) Or I could also just do print(arr). However, If I only wanted to print out the first element of each box (for arr, that would be 'foo', 'bar'), I would imagine I would do something like: print(arr[:][0]) however, that just prints out the first data blog (['foo', 1]), also, I tried reversing it (just in case): print(arr[0][:]) and I got the same thing. So, is there anyway that I can get it to print the first element in each tuple (other than: for tuple in arr: print(tuple[0]) )? Thanks.

I know I need to use a foreach but I just cannot figure out the logic.
