• SQL Server 2005 / 2008 Licensing question

  I have read up online, and through some threads here like this one. But I'm still confused and need to see if anyone can shed some light. My company is deploying a clickonce application that will be on multiple computers (about 50). It will be accessing an SQL Server database and I was wondering what kind of SQL Server licensing should I/need to have? The application currently logs in via SQL Server authentication using one SQL Server user. It seems logical that I would just need one user CAL and even through there will be up to 50 connections it should all still work. Am I right?

• Small, Custom WYSIWYG editor

  I would make to make a small WYSIWYG editor similar to the one used by StackOverflow. Basically, it would have buttons like [quote], and when that button is clicked, [quote] [/quote] should be inserted in the textarea where the cursor is or at the end of all other text. If the [quote][/quote] could be highlighted in some way that would be even more excellent, but its not required. Is there any WYSIWYG editor already available where you can add custom buttons, with custom text being added to the textbox as a result?

• Can you configure Spring-Security programmatically?

  I am working to configure Spring-Security with an existing application, for just basic security (i.e. what pages a user can see based on their roles). The question came up wondering if we could set what roles are required for each page in java instead of the ApplicationContext.xml. The idea is to store them in a table in our database, so we can easily change them with out a redeployment. Is this possible? How?

• How can i get more user debug logging related to kerberos for alfresco?

  I am running alfresco community edition 3.4c on a debian linux. I have problems getting the kerberos authentication in order. The biggest problem is that do not seem to have any sort of user logs. what i am using already: log4j.logger.org.alfresco.web.app.servlet.KerberosAuthenticationFilter=debug log4j.logger.org.alfresco.repo.webdav.auth.KerberosAuthenticationFilter=debug log4j.logger.org.alfresco.smb.protocol=debug log4j.logger.org.alfresco.fileserver=debug I've also checked if the users actually reach the server, and they do, (also on a linux firefox outside of domain, i seem to be able to log in). Can anyone help me get more user logging?

• asp.net 4.0 web forms routing - default/wildcard route

  I there a simple way when using ASP.NET 4.0 routing with Web Forms to produce a route that will act as some kind of wildcard? It seems to me that within WebForms, you have to specify a route for every page - I am looking for some kind of generic route that can be used where nothing specific is required, perhaps mapping directly from path to path so... http://somedomain.com/folder1/folder2/page would possibly map to folder1/folder2/page.aspx Any suggestions?   Today's browsers (or HTML < 5) only support HTTP GET and POST, but to communicate RESTful one need PUT and DELETE too. If the workaround should not be to use Ajax, something like a hidden form field is required to overwrite the actual HTTP method. Rails uses the following trick: <input name="_method" type="hidden" value="put" /> Is there a possibility to do something similar with JAX-RS?

• Possiblity of loading/executing ELF files on OSX

  I'm just curious as to the possibility of loading and executing elf files on OSX. I know the standard executable format is MACHO, but NASM is unable to generate debug information for MACHO objects (and I am required to use NASM). I imagine its a long shot, but I don't suppose I can use ELF files. I can build them with NASM, but I can't seem to even link them with LD.

• Password expiration notice for Active Directory

  Are there any tools/apps/scripts out there that will do password expiry notification for Windows 2008 Active Directory credentials? This is needed for our web apps that use Active Directory for LDAP authentication. The problem is those apps do not notify you that your password is going to expire when you login. We have many offsite users who do not have machines bound to the AD. So there is no way to let them know to reset their password. I'd like the user to be notified 30,7 and 1 day before it expires. I'd also like our help desk to get an email for the expiring passwords for the week and recently expired passwords. I've looked at oldcmp.exe from link text and that gets me my reports but it does not do the automation that I'm looking for on the individual users.

• Providing a public Web-Hosting service on MS Windows - advice and resources

  Are there any resources offering advice on how to setup a microsoft based web-hosting service? I currently offer LAMP hosting with cPanel, but there is some demand for IIS & SQL Server. As far as I can tell MS Windows Web Server 2008 R2 edition allows unlimited IIS connections. And a per-processor license for MS SQL Server Web Edition 2008 also permits unlimited connections. Where I am falling down is that I can't figure out how to get "unlimited" Active Directory users. I can't use 2008R2 Web Server edition for AD, so I will need the 2008R2 standard edition, I think. Does Microsoft have a provision for using AD in an ISP scenario? I am looking at using the cPanel Enkompas system to manage the Windows software, and Enkompas requires AD for user authentication. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

• Cross field validation in jsf h:datatable using p:calendar

  I noticed this question was asked, but it has not been answered correctly. I have a datatable that has two columns start date and end date. Both contain primefaces p:calendar controls in them. I need to ensure that for each row that the date in column1 is not after the date in column2. I would like to tie this into the JSF validation framework, but I'm having trouble. i've tried marking the datatable rowStatePreserved="true" , this allows me to get the values, but something is still wrong as when it fails, all the values in the first row overwrite all the other values.   Visual Studio 2010 seems to insist on having this import in web application projects <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath32)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" /> What does this import give us and is it really required? On a side note if you remove this import with a text editor Visual studio will re-add it. The reason i am asking is when the project is compiled on a build server that target does nor exists because visual studio is not installed.

The database have been created on my local machine. Is there any way to restore the remote database from a backup file on my local computer? I do not currently have access to the filesystem on the remote server. EDIT: To clarify, the access I have is that i can log in to the server via the SQL Server Management Studio. I have one connection to my local database server and one connection to the remote server. What I basically want to do is copy the database from one connection to the other.

  In the application my company publishes, we refer to 3rd-party software in several places: user manual, in the application UI itself, etc. Are we legally required to display the trademark or registration mark symbols next to the trademarked/registered names of 3rd-party software? If so, must they be displayed every time the name is mentioned, or is it sufficient to acknowledge the registration once (for example, in the application's splash screen or the introduction section of the user manual)?
