    I've got a projectile working perfectly using the code below: //initialised in loading screen 60 is the FPS - projectilEposition and velocity are Vector3 types gravity = new Vector3(0, -(float)9.81 / 60, 0); //called every frame projectilePosition += projectileVelocity; This seems to work fine but I've noticed in various projectile examples I've seen that the elapsedtime per update is taken into account. What's the difference between the two and how can I convert the above to take into account the elapsedtime? (I'm using XNA - do I use ElapsedTime.TotalSeconds or TotalMilliseconds)? Edit: Forgot to add my attempt at using elapsedtime, which seemed to break the physics: projectileVelocity.Y += -(float)((9.81 * gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalSeconds * gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalSeconds) * 0.5f); Thanks for the help

  • Google is not indexing my entire site despite having a sitemap

    I have an e-commerce website www.beyondtime.in. I have been constantly monitoring Googlebot crawling on my website and my webmaster account. Lately, I have found two issues that I have not been able to understand. 1.) The Google Bots have been only crawling www.beyondtime.in/telecom.php when the URL is not even valid. What needs to be done to let Google crawl other pages of the website as well? 2.) The second question is about the Google Webmaster account, where I've submitted my sitemap with 227 URLs. Out of that, only 156 have been indexed. None of the images of my website have been indexed by Google.

The Oracle Transportation Management Special Interest Group (OTM SIG) hosted its 6th annual user conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, August 13-15, 2012. This independently run conference drew almost 400 attendees, predominantly Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) users. It featured four concurrent tracks that included both functionally and technically focused presentations. The tracks included a number of informative presentations by OTM users from various industries. These discussed the users' implementations, current usage, and future plans for OTM within their organizations. ARC Advisory Group found ConAgra's and Mutual Materials' presentations on OTM adoption and Kraft's presentation on the company's use of Fusion Transportation Intelligence particularly informative.   • EPM Architecture: Foundation

    This post is the first of a series that is going to describe the EPM System architecture per component. During the following weeks a couple of follow up posts will describe each component. If applicable, the component will have its standard port next to its name in brackets. EPM Foundation is Java based and consists of two web applications, Shared Services and Workspace. Both applications are accessed by browser through Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) or Internet Information Services (IIS). Communication to the backend database is done by JDBC. The file system to store Lifecycle Management (LCM) artifacts can be either local or remote (e.g. NFS, network share). For authentication purposes, the EPM Product Suite can connect to external directories or databases. Interaction with other EPM Suite components like product specific Lifecycle Management connectors or Reporting and Analysis Web happens through HTTP protocol.   • How to reset the Xorg / xserver in 12.04 Precise Pangolin

    xserver keeps crashing on my general user account both in unity 3d and 2d. It doesn't do it on the guest account. That's why I want to reset / rollback everything xserver related, hoping this is going to fix it. Most answers on this involve sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. However, this does nothing for me (generates no output) and I read in other forums, that it's deprecated. So, what's the current way to reset all xserver / xorg options; what's the alternative to sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg ? Thanks Edit: X crashes during work, not before login or so. And the effect of a crash is, that I get thrown out of the session, not a freeze or machine crash.

  • Agile Executives

    Over the years, I have experienced many different styles of software development. In the early days, most of the development was Waterfall development. In the last few years, I’ve become an advocate of Scrum. As I talked about last month, many people have misconceptions about what Scrum really is. The reason why we do Scrum at Veracity is because of the difference it makes in the life of the team doing Scrum. Software is for people, and happy motivated people will build better software. However, not all executives understand Scrum and how to get the information from development teams that use Scrum. I think that these executives need a support system for managing Agile teams. Historical Software Management When Henry Ford pioneered the assembly line, I doubt he realized the impact he’d have on Management through the ages. Historically, management was about managing the process of building things. The people were just cogs in that process. Like all cogs, they were replaceable. Unfortunately, most of the software industry followed this same style of management. Many of today’s senior managers learned how to manage companies before software was a significant influence on how the company did business. Software development is a very creative process, but too many managers have treated it like an assembly line. Idea’s go in, working software comes out, and we just have to figure out how to make sure that the ideas going in are perfect, then the software will be perfect. Lean Manufacturing In the manufacturing industry, Lean manufacturing has revolutionized Henry Ford’s assembly line. Derived from the Toyota process, Lean places emphasis on always providing value for the customer. Anything the customer wouldn’t be willing to pay for is wasteful. Agile is based on similar principles. We’re building software for people, and anything that isn’t useful to them doesn’t add value. Waterfall development would have teams build reams and reams of documentation about how the software should work. Agile development dispenses with this work because excessive documentation doesn’t add value. Instead, teams focus on building documentation only when it truly adds value to the customer. Many other Agile principals are similar. Playing Catch-up Just like in the manufacturing industry, many managers in the software industry have yet to understand the value of the principles of Lean and Agile. They think they can wrap the uncertainties of software development up in a nice little package and then just execute, usually followed by failure. They spend a great deal of time and money trying to exactly predict the future. That expenditure of time and money doesn’t add value to the customer. Managers that understand that Agile know that there is a better way. They will instead focus on the priorities of the near term in detail, and leave the future to take care of itself. They have very detailed two week plans with less detailed quarterly plans. These plans are guided by a general corporate strategy that doesn’t focus on the exact implementation details. These managers also think in smaller features rather than large functionality. This adds a great deal of value to customers, since the features that matter most are the ones that the team focuses on in the near term and then are able to deliver to the customers that are paying for them. Agile managers also realize that stale software is very costly. They know that keeping the technology in their software current is much less expensive and risky than large rewrites that occur infrequently and schedule time in each release for refactoring of the existing software. Agile Executives Even though Agile is a better way, I’ve still seen failures using the Agile process. While some of these failures can be attributed to the team, most of them are caused by managers, not the team. Managers fail to understand what Agile is, how it works, and how to get the information that they need to make good business decisions. I think this is a shame. I’m very pleased that Veracity understands this problem and is trying to do something about it. Veracity is a key sponsor of Agile Executives. Once I created the clothes website then i can open the business account and starting selling the goods online with that account. Do i need to buy any domains to create the website? Please help me?

  • Ubuntu Sluggish and Graphics Problem after Nvidia Driver Update

    I just recently started using Ubuntu (12.04) since a few weeks ago and noticed that the interface is very slow and sluggish: On Dash, I have to type the entire app name and wait a few seconds before it shows up in the search box, and a bit later before it displays search result Opening new files or applications takes also quite long and awkward Dragging icons or moving app windows around is not very spontaneous too: I have to take extra attention in moving the mouse otherwise Ubuntu would not do a correct movement or might ends up doing something incorrect instead e.g. opening the windows to full screen options or move the file to different folders, which is frustrating My PC is a few years old already (1.7 GB RAM) so this could be a reason too but when I checked in System Monitor it's hardly ever consuming much memory. Plus web-surfing on Firefox is actually lightning fast (much more than Windows), so I suspect there might be something wrong with the graphics driver (mine is GeForce 7050). I checked around System Settings and found an option to update the Nvidia driver. So I tried it and restarted, as instructed. Now, I got into a big problem upon restart... as the login-screen windows (where I have to type in the password) would take several attempts to display and finally did not manage to (it'd freeze for several seconds before there's any movement again). The background screen also kept reloading several times too and at some point the screen turned black with pixelated color strips running on the bottom 1/3 of the screen, and after a long while the background screen would come up again. Eventually I'd manage to be able to access the desktop but the launcher, top menu bar and app windows border would not disappear. I searched around and found many other people have this similar problem after updating Nvidia driver too, and on some threads the suggestion is to use "killall -u $USER" in command line (it's the only thing among various online suggestions I could do, as at that point I could not access Terminal without the launcher - Ctrl-Alt-T doesn't work for me). So I did that and was able to access the desktop correctly again with launchee/menu by creating a new account. But I would still have the same problem if logging into my original account. So I just finally tried upgrading to 12.10 and now can access my original account with fully-functional desktop - the launcher, menu and windows border are all back now. However, the problem with sluggishness still remains. And now I get scared of ever having to update the Nvidia driver again! I wonder if anyone knows what's the reason that updating the Nvidia driver is causing this problem and is there a way I can update it safely in the future? I'm still not sure how to solve the problem with the sluggishness too and not sure where else to look to find a solution.

  • Seeking some advice on pursuing MS in CS from Stanford or Carnegie Mellon or Caltech

    What kinds of projects are given preference in top notch colleges like Stanford, Caltech, etc to get admission into MS programme in Computer Science? I have an average academic portfolio. I'm pursuing Btech from a not so popular university in India with an aggregate of 67%. I'm good at designing algorithms and possess good knowledge of core subjects but helpless with my percentage. So, I think the only way I can impress them is with my project(s). Can anyone please suggest me the kinds of projects that are given preference by such top level institutes? Could you please also suggest some good projects? My area of interest would be Artificial Intelligence or any application/software/algorithm design which could be of some help to common people. Or if you have any other random idea for my project then please share it with me. Note: Web based projects and management projects like lib management wouldn't be my priority.

    A lot of you know me as an Application Lifecycle Management MVP, and a huge proponent of ALM, TFS, and Visual Studio.  For my day job, however, I work for Infront Consulting Group, a System Center consulting and training organization.  I love what I do there, and work closely with Operations Manager, Service Manager, and Orchestrator.  And believe it or not, use a lot of ALM best practices around all of those. Infront was just recognized as a 2012 Microsoft Corporate Account Virtualization Data Center Services Partner of the Year.  This award recognizes a solution partner that has demonstrated leadership and commitment in driving Microsoft virtualization solutions in the Microsoft Corporate Account segment.  I’m very proud of Infront, and all the hard work that everyone here has put into the incredible services we provide, which lead to us winning this award.
