  • Is my method for avoiding dynamic_cast<> faster than dynamic_cast<> itself ?

    - by ereOn
Hi, I was answering a question a few minutes ago and it raised to me another one: In one of my projects, I do some network message parsing. The messages are in the form of: [1 byte message type][2 bytes payload length][x bytes payload] The format and content of the payload are determined by the message type. I have a class hierarchy, based on a common class Message. To instanciate my messages, i have a static parsing method which gives back a Message* depending on the message type byte. Something like: Message* parse(const char* frame) { // This is sample code, in real life I obviously check that the buffer // is not NULL, and the size, and so on. switch(frame[0]) { case 0x01: return new FooMessage(); case 0x02: return new BarMessage(); } // Throw an exception here because the mesage type is unknown. } I sometimes need to access the methods of the subclasses. Since my network message handling must be fast, I decived to avoid dynamic_cast<> and I added a method to the base Message class that gives back the message type. Depending on this return value, I use a static_cast<> to the right child type instead. I did this mainly because I was told once that dynamic_cast<> was slow. However, I don't know exactly what it really does and how slow it is, thus, my method might be as just as slow (or slower) but far more complicated. What do you guys think of this design ? Is it common ? Is it really faster than using dynamic_cast<> ? Any detailed explanation of what happen under the hood when one use dynamic_cast<> is welcome !

  • iPhone: Leak with UIWebView loading Office documents. Any ideas how to avoid it?

    - by Thomas Tempelmann
While there are already quite a few posts about leaks around UIWebView, mine is a bit more special, I believe, and thus deserves its own post here. I see a reproducible large leak every time I load a Office document such as a Word or Excel file. For instance, every time I display a 180KB .doc file, I get a 100KB leak. And that happens with both the simulator and an actual device, running OS 3.1.3. The leak is not visible with the Leaks instrument but only by looking at the malloc instances via the ObjectAlloc instrument. Here's a picture from the instruments trace: I've also made a demo project, UIWebView-Leak.zip, so you can verify this yourself. To see the leak, use the ObjectAlloc instrument, switch to the view where you see individual allocation objects, and sort by size so that you see the large ones in a group, just like in my picture above. Then view a Office document a few times and find the Malloc objects that keep staying "Live" even after the actual UIWebView has been freed. Is this a known bug? Or is there any way I can avoid these leaks? I.e, have you successfully shown Office documents on an iPhone withing getting such leaks? Note: I've reported this as a bug to Apple now, too (ID 7950594) I am still waiting for someone (including Apple) to confirm this as a true leak or show why it isn't (i.e. that I do something wrong or make wrong assumptions)

  • How to accommodate for the iPhone 4 screen resolution?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
This is a programming question! Read on before you vote to close! According to Apple, the iPhone 4 has a new and better screen resolution: 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi This little detail affects our apps in a heavy way. Most of the demo apps on the net have one thing in common: They position views in the believe that the screen has a fixed size of 320 x 480 pixels. So what most -if not all- developers do is: They designed everything in such a way, that a touchable area is -for example- 50 x 50 pixels big. Just enough to tap it. Things have been positioned relative to the upper left, to reach a specific position on screen - let's say the center, or somewhere at the bottom. Edit: It seems Apple has integrated an switch that allows to tell if an app is highRes or not. Nice. When we develop high-resolution apps, they probably won't work on older devices. And if they do, they would suffer a lot from 4-times the size of any image, having to scale them down in memory.

  • How can I work out what events are being waited for with WinDBG in a kernel debug session

    - by Benj
I'm a complete WinDbg newbie and I've been trying to debug a WindowsXP problem that a customer has sent me where our software and some third party software prevent windows from logging off. I've reproduced the problem and have verified that only when our software and the customers software are both installed (although not necessarily running at logoff) does the log off problem occur. I've observed that WM_ENDSESSION messages are not reaching the running windows when the user tries to log off and I know that the third party software uses a kernel driver. I've been looking at the processes in WinDbg and I know that csrss.exe would normally send all the windows a WM_ENDSESSION message. When I ran: !process 82356020 6 To look at csrss.exe's stack I can see: WARNING: Frame IP not in any known module. Following frames may be wrong. 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 0x7c90e514 THREAD 8246d998 Cid 0248.02a0 Teb: 7ffd7000 Win32Thread: e1627008 WAIT: (WrUserRequest) UserMode Non-Alertable 8243d9f0 SynchronizationEvent 81fe0390 SynchronizationEvent Not impersonating DeviceMap e1004450 Owning Process 82356020 Image: csrss.exe Attached Process N/A Image: N/A Wait Start TickCount 1813 Ticks: 20748 (0:00:05:24.187) Context Switch Count 3 LargeStack UserTime 00:00:00.000 KernelTime 00:00:00.000 Start Address 0x75b67cdf Stack Init f80bd000 Current f80bc9c8 Base f80bd000 Limit f80ba000 Call 0 Priority 14 BasePriority 13 PriorityDecrement 0 DecrementCount 0 Kernel stack not resident. • 'Bank Switching' Sprites on old NES applications

    - by Jeffrey Kern
I'm currently writing in C# what could basically be called my own interpretation of the NES hardware for an old-school looking game that I'm developing. I've fired up FCE and have been observing how the NES displayed and rendered graphics. In a nutshell, the NES could hold two bitmaps worth of graphical information, each with the dimensions of 128x128. These are called the PPU tables. One was for BG tiles and the other was for sprites. The data had to be in this memory for it to be drawn on-screen. Now, if a game had more graphical data then these two banks, it could write portions of this new information to these banks -overwriting what was there - at the end of each frame, and use it from the next frame onward. So, in old games how did the programmers 'bank switch'? I mean, within the level design, how did they know which graphic set to load? I've noticed that Mega Man 2 bankswitches when the screen programatically scrolls from one portion of the stage to the next. But how did they store this information in the level - what sprites to copy over into the PPU tables, and where to write them at? Another example would be hitting pause in MM2. BG tiles get over-written during pause, and then get restored when the player unpauses. How did they remember which tiles they replaced and how to restore them? If I was lazy, I could just make one huge static bitmap and just grab values that way. But I'm forcing myself to limit these values to create a more authentic experience. I've read the amazing guide on how M.C. Kids was made, and I'm trying to be barebones about how I program this game. It still just boggles my mind how these programmers accomplisehd what they did with what they had. EDIT: The only solution I can think of would be to hold separate tables that state what tiles should be in the PPU at what time, but I think that would be a huge memory resource that the NES wouldn't be able to handle.

  • bind event handler on keydown listen function JavaScript jQuery

    - by user1644123
I am trying to bind a handler to an event. The event is a keydown function. The handler will listen for hit variables to produce one of two conditions. The 1st condition (odd number of hits) will perform 1 function, the 2nd (even number of hits) will perform another function. To elaborate, the 1st function will scroll to one element, the 2nd will scroll to another element. My syntax may be the wrong approach, but it works for the 1st condition, but not the 2nd. I think I have the conditional statement in the wrong place. How can I rewrite this to work as intended? Thank you kindly, in advance! $(document).keydown(function(e) { switch (e.which) { case 37: break; case 38: break; case 39: break; case 40: //bottom arrow key var hits = 0; if (hits % 2 !== 0) { $('#wrap').animate({ scrollTop: $("#scrollToHere").offset().top }, 2800); } else { $('#wrap').animate({ scrollTop: $("#scroll2ToHere").offset().top }, 2800); } hits++; return false; break; } })? *I moved "var hits = 0;" to the top, but it only works! But is there a way I can reset the whole thing after every two hits? I want to reset because when there is a bug and if I press a 3rd time it scrolls to the very top of the page, where there is no element to make it scroll to the top. Why would it scroll to the top of the page if I never scripted it to do so?? *

  • can not override showDialog in Activity tab

    - by hornetbzz
    Trying to downgrade my appl from android 2.2 (API 8) down to android 2.1 (API7), I'm facing some issues with dialog boxes. Based on this thread, I'm trying to catch these exceptions but can't override the showDialog method. I turned the Java compiler from 1.5 to 1.6 according to this answer to a similar issue, but no changes, Eclipse still returns : Cannot override the final method from Activity public class MyActivity extends Activity implements SeekBar.OnSeekBarChangeListener { // ... some stuffs @Override // here is the issue public void showDialog(int dialogId) { try { super.showDialog(dialogId); } catch (IllegalArgumentException e) { Log.e(ACTIVITY_TAG, "Error dialog"); } } @Override protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id) { switch (id) { case DIALOG_ALERT: // Create out AlertDialog Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder.setMessage(msg); builder.setCancelable(false); builder.setPositiveButton(GOTO_BOOK, new OkOnClickListener()); builder.setNegativeButton(STAY_HERE, new CancelOnClickListener()); AlertDialog dialog = builder.create(); dialog.show(); break; case DIALOG_ONCREATE: // Create out AlertDialog during the "onCreate" method (only "Ok" // button) Builder builder2 = new AlertDialog.Builder(getParent()); builder2.setMessage(msg); builder2.setCancelable(false); builder2.setPositiveButton(GO_BACK, new OkOnClickListener()); AlertDialog dialog2 = builder2.create(); dialog2.show(); break; } return super.onCreateDialog(id); } // ... some stuffs }

  • How do I get PHP variables from this MySQL query?

    - by CT
    I am working on an Asset Database problem using PHP / MySQL. In this script I would like to search my assets by an asset id and have it return all related fields. First I query the database asset table and find the asset's type. Then depending on the type I run 1 of 3 queries. <?php //make database connect mysql_connect("localhost", "asset_db", "asset_db") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("asset_db") or die(mysql_error()); //get type of asset $type = mysql_query(" SELECT asset.type From asset WHERE asset.id = 93120 ") or die(mysql_error()); switch ($type){ case "Server": //do some stuff that involves a mysql query mysql_query(" SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchase_date ,asset.purchase_order ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,server.manufacturer ,server.model ,server.serial_number ,server.esc ,server.user ,server.prev_user ,server.warranty FROM asset LEFT JOIN server ON server.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = 93120 "); break; case "Laptop": //do some stuff that involves a mysql query mysql_query(" SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchase_date ,asset.purchase_order ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,laptop.manufacturer ,laptop.model ,laptop.serial_number ,laptop.esc ,laptop.user ,laptop.prev_user ,laptop.warranty FROM asset LEFT JOIN laptop ON laptop.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = 93120 "); break; case "Desktop": //do some stuff that involves a mysql query mysql_query(" SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchase_date ,asset.purchase_order ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,desktop.manufacturer ,desktop.model ,desktop.serial_number ,desktop.esc ,desktop.user ,desktop.prev_user ,desktop.warranty FROM asset LEFT JOIN desktop ON desktop.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = 93120 "); break; } ?> So far I am able to get asset.type into $type. How would I go about getting the rest of the variables (laptop.model to $model, asset.notes to $notes and so on)? Thank you.

  • Python virtualenv questions

    - by orokusaki
I'm using VirtualEnv on Windows XP. I'm wondering if I have my brain wrapped around it correctly. I ran virtualenv ENV and it created C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV. I then changed my PATH variable to include C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV\Scripts instead of C:\Python27\Scripts. Then, I checked out Django into C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV\Lib\site-packages\django-trunk, updated my PYTHON_PATH variable to point the new Django directory, and continued to easy_install other things (which of course go into my new C:\WINDOWS\system32\ENV\Lib\site-packages directory). I understand why I should use VirtualEnv so I can run multiple versions of Django, and other libraries on the same machine, but does this mean that to switch between environments I have to basically change my PATH and PYTHON_PATH variable? So, I go from developing one Django project which uses Django 1.2 in an environment called ENV and then change my PATH and such so that I can use an environment called ENV2 which has the dev version of Django? Is that basically it, or is there some better way to automatically do all this (I could update my path in Python code, but that would require me to write machine-specific code in my application)? Also, how does this process compare to using VirtualEnv on Linux (I'm quite the beginner at Linux).

  • Service reference error when moving dev. environment from XP to W7

    - by Peter
Hi, I am building an application and I am using web services for getting data from a server. It was working fine when I was developing on my XP machine but had to switch to Windows 7. On the new machine I grabbed the latest version of the code using sourcesafe. However, when I try to add a service reference in the solution or update an existing one I get the following error: There was an error downloading 'http://localhost:52490/Service/CustomerService.asmx'. The request failed with the error message: Server Error in '/' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Could not create type 'Digital_Server.CustomerService'. An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://localhost:52490/Service/CustomerService.asmx. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. Does it has anything to do with the IIS or is it any configuration file I have to change in the solution? Any help is appreciated.

  • curios about CCSpriteBatchNode's addchild method

    - by lzyy
when diving into "learn cocos2d game development with ios5", in ch08 in EnemyCache.m -(id) init { if ((self = [super init])) { // get any image from the Texture Atlas we're using CCSpriteFrame* frame = [[CCSpriteFrameCache sharedSpriteFrameCache] spriteFrameByName:@"monster-a.png"]; batch = [CCSpriteBatchNode batchNodeWithTexture:frame.texture]; [self addChild:batch]; [self initEnemies]; [self scheduleUpdate]; } return self; } so batch is with texture "monster-a.png" in EnemyEntity.m's initWithType method switch (type) { case EnemyTypeUFO: enemyFrameName = @"monster-a.png"; bulletFrameName = @"shot-a.png"; break; case EnemyTypeCruiser: enemyFrameName = @"monster-b.png"; bulletFrameName = @"shot-b.png"; shootFrequency = 1.0f; initialHitPoints = 3; break; case EnemyTypeBoss: enemyFrameName = @"monster-c.png"; bulletFrameName = @"shot-c.png"; shootFrequency = 2.0f; initialHitPoints = 15; break; default: [NSException exceptionWithName:@"EnemyEntity Exception" reason:@"unhandled enemy type" userInfo:nil]; } if ((self = [super initWithSpriteFrameName:enemyFrameName])) { //... } so the returned object may be in 3 different frame. since Only the CCSprites that are contained in that texture can be added to the CCSpriteBatchNode, obviously, 'monster-b.png' is not contained in 'monster-a.png', why the different enemy can still be added to the batch?

  • Unity Framework constructor parameters in MVC

    - by ubersteve
I have an ASP.NET MVC3 site that I want to be able to use different types of email service, depending on how busy the site is. Consider the following: public interface IEmailService { void SendEmail(MailMessage mailMessage); } public class LocalEmailService : IEmailService { public LocalEmailService() { // no setup required } public void SendEmail(MailMessage mailMessage) { // send email via local smtp server, write it to a text file, whatever } } public class BetterEmailService : IEmailService { public BetterEmailService (string smtpServer, string portNumber, string username, string password) { // initialize the object with the parameters } public void SendEmail(MailMessage mailMessage) { //actually send the email } } Whilst the site is in development, all of my controllers will send emails via the LocalEmailService; when the site is in production, they will use the BetterEmailService. My question is twofold: 1) How exactly do I pass the BetterEmailService constructor parameters? Is it something like this (from ~/Bootstrapper.cs): private static IUnityContainer BuildUnityContainer() { var container = new UnityContainer(); container.RegisterType<IEmailService, BetterEmailService>("server name", "port", "username", "password"); return container; } 2) Is there a better way of doing that - i.e. putting those keys in the web.config or another configuration file so that the site would not need to be recompiled to switch which email service it was using? Many thanks!

  • Simulated Annealing and Yahtzee!

    - by Jasie
I've picked up Programming Challenges and found a Yahtzee! problem which I will simplify: There are 13 scoring categories There are 13 rolls by a player (comprising a play) Each roll must fit in a distinct category The goal is to find the maximum score for a play (the optimal placement of rolls in categories); score(play) returns the score for a play Brute-forcing to find the maximum play score requires 13! (= 6,227,020,800) score() calls. I choose simulated annealing to find something close to the highest score, faster. Though not deterministic, it's good enough. I have a list of 13 rolls of 5 die, like: ((1,2,3,4,5) #1 (1,2,6,3,4),#2 ... (1,4,3,2,2) #13 ) And a play (1,5,6,7,2,3,4,8,9,10,13,12,11) passed into score() returns a score for that play's permutation. How do I choose a good "neighboring state"? For random-restart, I can simply choose a random permutation of nos. 1-13, put them in a vector, and score them. In the traveling salesman problem, here's an example of a good neighboring state: "The neighbours of some particular permutation are the permutations that are produced for example by interchanging a pair of adjacent cities." I have a bad feeling about simply swapping two random vector positions, like so: (1,5,6,7, 2 , 3,4,8,9,10, 13, 12,11) # switch 2 and 13 (1,5,6,7, 13, 3,4,8,9,10, 2 , 12,11) # now score this one But I have no evidence and don't know how to select a good neighboring state. Anyone have any ideas on how to pick good neighboring states?

  • How do I correctly decode unicode parameters passed to a servlet

    - by Grant Wagner
Suppose I have: <a href="http://www.yahoo.com/" target="_yahoo" title="Yahoo!&#8482;" onclick="return gateway(this);">Yahoo!</a> <script type="text/javascript"> function gateway(lnk) { window.open(SERVLET + '?external_link=' + encodeURIComponent(lnk.href) + '&external_target=' + encodeURIComponent(lnk.target) + '&external_title=' + encodeURIComponent(lnk.title)); return false; } </script> I have confirmed external_title gets encoded as Yahoo!%E2%84%A2 and passed to SERVLET. If in SERVLET I do: Writer writer = response.getWriter(); writer.write(request.getParameter("external_title")); I get Yahoo!â„¢ in the browser. If I manually switch the browser character encoding to UTF-8, it changes to Yahoo!TM (which is what I want). So I figured the encoding I was sending to the browser was wrong (it was Content-type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1). I changed SERVLET to: response.setContentType("text/html; charset=utf-8"); Writer writer = response.getWriter(); writer.write(request.getParameter("external_title")); Now the browser character encoding is UTF-8, but it outputs Yahoo!â?¢ and I can't get the browser to render the correct character at all. My question is: is there some combination of Content-type and/or new String(request.getParameter("external_title").getBytes(), "UTF-8"); and/or something else that will result in Yahoo!TM appearing in the SERVLET output?

  • UITableView only pushes to one controller

So I have my UITableView, with 2 sections and 1 cell in each, and if I click the first one, it works, then the second one, it goes to the first controller. Thanks.

  • UIPickerView crashing when switching segemented control

    - by Mattog1456
Hello, I have four NSDictionaries that I would like to use to populate a pickerview depending on a segemented control. With the code I have, the first segmented control/pickerview works fine but when I switch to the second segment the picker view only loads part of the second dictionary, that is it loads the same number of rows as it counted in the first dictionary. When I change the segmented control to the third or fourth segment it simply crashes with a sigabrt error indicating that it cannot index item43 when only 27 exist. This I suspect stems from a UItextfield population based on the upickerview row and object. I think the problem is with the way I have the data source and delegate set up. #pragma mark - #pragma mark UIPickerViewDelegate - (NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component { if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 0) { return [robskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 1) { return [esabskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 2) { return [lebskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } else if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 3) { return [sbskeys objectAtIndex:row]; } return @"Unknown title"; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark UIPickerViewDataSource - (NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView { return 1; } - (NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component { if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 0) { return robskeys.count; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 1) { return esabskeys.count; } if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 2) { return lebskeys.count; } else if ([wine selectedSegmentIndex] == 3) { return sbskeys.count; } return 1; } #pragma mark - Any help would be much appreciated Thank you

  • Scala and Java BigDecimal

    - by geejay
I want to switch from Java to a scripting language for the Math based modules in my app. This is due to the readability, and functional limitations of mathy Java. For e.g, in Java I have this: BigDecimal x = new BigDecimal("1.1"); BigDecimal y = new BigDecimal("1.1"); BigDecimal z = x.multiply(y.exp(new BigDecimal("2")); As you can see, without BigDecimal operator overloading, simple formulas get complicated real quick. With doubles, this looks fine, but I need the precision. I was hoping in Scala I could do this: var x = 1.1; var y = 0.1; print(x + y); And by default I would get decimal-like behaviour, alas Scala doesn't use decimal calculation by default. Then I do this in Scala: var x = BigDecimal(1.1); var y = BigDecimal(0.1); println(x + y); And I still get an imprecise result. Is there something I am not doing right in Scala? Maybe I should use Groovy to maximise readability (it uses decimals by default)?

  • From where starts the process' memory space and where does it end?

    - by nhaa123
    Hi, I'm trying to dump memory from my application where the variables lye. Here's the function: void MyDump(const void *m, unsigned int n) { const unsigned char *p = reinterpret_cast<const unsigned char *(m); char buffer[16]; unsigned int mod = 0; for (unsigned int i = 0; i < n; ++i, ++mod) { if (mod % 16 == 0) { mod = 0; std::cout << " | "; for (unsigned short j = 0; j < 16; ++j) { switch (buffer[j]) { case 0xa: case 0xb: case 0xd: case 0xe: case 0xf: std::cout << " "; break; default: std::cout << buffer[j]; } } std::cout << "\n0x" << std::setfill('0') << std::setw(8) << std::hex << (long)i << " | "; } buffer[i % 16] = p[i]; std::cout << std::setw(2) << std::hex << static_cast<unsigned int(p[i]) << " "; if (i % 4 == 0 && i != 1) std::cout << " "; } } Now, how can I know from which address starts my process memory space, where all the variables are stored? And how do I now, how long the area is? For instance: MyDump(0x0000 /* <-- Starts from here? */, 0x1000 /* <-- This much? */); Best regards, nhaa123

  • How to automatically split git commits to separate changes to a single file

    - by Hercynium
I'm just plain stuck as to how to accomplish this, or if it's even possible. Even it it can be done, I wonder if it could be setting us up for a messed-up, unmanageable repository. I have set up two branches of the code-base. One is "master" and the other is "prod". The HEAD of prod is always the latest code in production, and master is the main development branch. Here's the problem, though: We're converting from CVS here at $work and most of the developers are still getting used to git. Their CVS workflow involved tagging versions of individual files for production, then updating the servers using the tag. Unfortunately, this has let to sloppy practices like committing unrelated changes together and then tagging the files after-the-fact... and the devs want to know how they can do the following: In their local repos, they hack and commit to their hearts' delight, then at the end of the day, be able to run a command that takes a list of files whose commits over the day get merged with their local prod - and only those files - even if those commits combine changes to other files. I know how to split commits with git rebase --interactive, but I have no clue how I would automate splitting commits at all, never mind the way I want to. I do realize the simplest thing would be to just tell them to switch the their prod branches, checkout the files from their master branches into the working tree then commit to prod. My problem with that is losing the history of their commits over the day.

  • Array of templated structs

    - by Jakub Mertlik
I have structs templated by int derived from a Base struct. struct Base { int i; double d; }; template< int N > struct Derv : base { static const int mN = N; }; I need to make an array of Derv< N where N can vary for each struct in that array. I know C/C++ does not allow arrays of objects of different types, but is there a way around this? I was thinking of separating the type information somehow (hints like pointers to Base struct or usage of union spring to my mind, but with all of these I don't know how to store the type information of each array element for usage DURING COMPILE TIME). As you can see, the memory pattern of each Derv< N is the same. I need to access the type of each array element for template specialization later in my code. The general aim of this all is to have a compile-time dispatch mechanism without the need to do a runtime "type switch" somewhere in the code. Thank you.

  • Git: Create a branch from unstagged/uncommited changes on master

    - by knoopx
Context: I'm working on master adding a simple feature. After a few minutes I realize it was not so simple and it should have been better to work into a new branch. This always happens to me and I have no idea how to switch to another branch and take all these uncommited changes with me leaving the master branch clean. I supposed git stash && git stash branch new_branch would simply accomplish that but this is what I get: ~/test $ git status # On branch master nothing to commit (working directory clean) ~/test $ echo "hello!" > testing ~/test $ git status # On branch master # Changed but not updated: # (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) # (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) # # modified: testing # no changes added to commit (use "git add" and/or "git commit -a") ~/test $ git stash Saved working directory and index state WIP on master: 4402b8c testing HEAD is now at 4402b8c testing ~/test $ git status # On branch master nothing to commit (working directory clean) ~/test $ git stash branch new_branch Switched to a new branch 'new_branch' # On branch new_branch # Changed but not updated: # (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) # (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) # # modified: testing # no changes added to commit (use "git add" and/or "git commit -a") Dropped refs/stash@{0} (db1b9a3391a82d86c9fdd26dab095ba9b820e35b) ~/test $ git s # On branch new_branch # Changed but not updated: # (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) # (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) # # modified: testing # no changes added to commit (use "git add" and/or "git commit -a") ~/test $ git checkout master M testing Switched to branch 'master' ~/test $ git status # On branch master # Changed but not updated: # (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) # (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) # # modified: testing # no changes added to commit (use "git add" and/or "git commit -a") Do you know if there is any way of accomplishing this?

  • Binding a ListBox's SelectedItem in the presence of BindingNavigator

    - by Reinderien
Hello. I'm trying to bind a ListBox's SelectedItem data to a property. The following code is an example: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace BindingFailure { static class Program { class OuterObject { public string selected { get; set; } public List<string> strings { get; set; } } public static void Main() { List<OuterObject> objs = new List<OuterObject>() { new OuterObject(), new OuterObject() }; objs[0].strings = new List<string> { "one", "two", "three" }; objs[1].strings = new List<string> { "four", "five", "six" }; Form form = new Form(); BindingSource obs = new BindingSource(objs, null), ibs = new BindingSource(obs, "strings"); BindingNavigator nav = new BindingNavigator(obs); ListBox lbox = new ListBox(); lbox.DataSource = ibs; lbox.DataBindings.Add(new Binding("SelectedItem", obs, "selected")); form.Controls.Add(nav); form.Controls.Add(lbox); lbox.Location = new System.Drawing.Point(30, 30); Application.Run(form); } } } If you just select an item, move forward, select an item and then exit, it works as expected. But if you switch back and forth between the two outer objects with the navigator, the selected item seems to be overwritten with an incorrect value. Ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
