  As ably reported in the Oracle Technology Network blog, the Oracle Develop Conference's content catalog is now public (as are the catalogs for JavaOne and Oracle OpenWorld), meaning you can now explore technical sessions scheduled for the conf to your heart's content."But something's missing", you may tell yourself. "Where is my favorite subject, the one I happen to also be an expert on?" Well, there's good news for you, too: The Suggest-A-Session project has returned. It works thus: Submit a session idea via Oracle Mix and ask your colleagues, Oracle Mix community, friends and anyone else you know to vote for your session. (You must be an Oracle Mix member to vote.) Voting is open through June 20. For the most part, the top voted sessions will be selected for the Oracle Develop Conf (or Oracle OpenWorld) official agenda. • Using automated bdd-gui-tests to keep user-documentation-screenshots up do date?

  Are there developpers out there, who (ab)use the CaptureScreenshot() function of their automated gui-tests to also create uptodate-screenshots for the userdocumentation? Background: Whithin the lifetime of an application, its gui-elements are constantly changing. It makes a lot of work to keep the userdocumentation uptodate, especially if the example data in the pictures should match the textual description. If you already have automated bdd-gui-tests why not let them take screenshots at certain points? I am currently playing with webapps in dotnet+specflow+selenium, but this topic also applies to other bdd-engines (JRuby-Cucumber, mspec, rspec, ...) and gui-test-Frameworks (WaitN, WaitR, MsWhite, ....) Any experience, thoughts or url-links to this topic would be helpfull. How is the cost/benefit relation? Is it worth the efford? What are the Drawbacks? • Automated Post-billing Service/Solution

  I'm trying to find a solution or service that will allow for my company to automatically take a customer's credit card information via the web to keep on file and bill against based on how much they have used the services we provide. We need a service that will also handle the payment processing as well. Note that this is not recurring billing. The bill at the end of each month won't be the same. Presently, we are having to take a customer's credit card information over the phone and manually input it into Quickbooks, but this just doesn't work for scalability. We will still be manually invoicing the customers, but we need automated credit card acceptance and storage without the liabilities involved with storing it on our own server. Solutions that integrate with Wordpress would be a plus.

• Drupal + LDAP + Automatic

  I've got Drupal 6 setup within a XAMPP test area. I have LDAP authentication, groups and data working against Active Directory. What I want... is since I'm on an intranet where users are logged in via user-names... is for automatic authentication, without the need to login via the website. If it's more difficult than its worth, it's no major hassle, but I'd like to know if it's possible that when my users visit our intranet they auto-magically authenticate with their already logged in Windows session. Ultimately, I may switch to IIS, but I do like having a portable, easy to backup/copy/test setup so for now I'm going to see if I can get this working in XAMPP.

Specify the cmdlet parameter name in full or only partially (dir -Recurse versus dir -r) When specifying string arguments for cmdlets do you enclose them in quotes (New-Object 'System.Int32' versus New-Object System.Int32 When writing functions and filters do you specify the types of parameters? Do you write cmdlets in the (official) correct case? For keywords like BEGIN...PROCESS...END do you write them in uppercase only? Thanks for any replies.

• Best language or tool for automating tedious manual tasks

  We all have tasks that come up from time to time that we think we'd be better off scripting or automating than doing manually. Obviously some tools or languages are better for this than others - no-one (in their right mind) is doing a one off job of cross referencing a bunch of text lists their PM has just given them in assembler for instance. What one tool or language would you recommend for the sort of general quick and dirty jobs you get asked to do where time (rather than elegance) is of the essence? Background: I'm a former programmer, now development manager PM, looking to learn a new language for fun. If I'm going to learn something for fun I'd like it to be useful and this sort of use case is the most likely to come up.

  I am trying to make a small demo in Javascript, I have a black border and a car the car travels randomly and a line is drawn of its trail. When the user click inside the area it creates an object (we'll call this the wall). If the car hits the wall then it goes back 3 paces and tries a different route. When its hit the wall it needs to log down its location so it does NOT make that mistake again. • Bad archive mirror using PXE boot method

  I'm trying to automatically install Ubuntu on a client PC by using the PXE BOOT method....my Objectives are below: I am following the steps given in this link installation using PXE BOOT the server will have a KICKSTART config file which contains the parameters for the OS installation and the files which are required for the OS installations. the client will have to detect this configuration along with the setup files and complete the installation without any input from the user. In my server I have installed DHCP3-server,Apache2 and TFTP to help me with the installation. I have nearly achieved my first objective, I am able to boot my client using the files stored in the server but during the installation stage it is asking me to CHOOSE A MIRROR OF UBUNTU ARCHIVE I gave the server's IP address and the path in the server where the files are located but then its giving me this error BAD ARCHIVE MIRROR So is it possible that instead of downloading all the files from the internet and storing them on my disk can I use the files which comes with the UBUNTU-CD, and how to store these files in what format (should I zip them) on the disk? secondly I am also generating the ks.cfg which I wanted to give to the client for automatic installation of the OS. So how should the configuration file be given to the installation process?

• TestDrive equivalent for Ubuntu Server

  Every now and then I'd like to play with a fresh minimal install of Ubuntu (to test sysadminish scripts, application install instructions, package dependency lists etc.). I'd like to have a tool as simple to use as testdrive: pick a version (say, 'maverick'), run a command, get a shell in a new virtual machine. I'd like that shell to be in the current terminal, rather than a new GUI window that testdrive uses. Setting up the new VM to accept SSH logins with my ssh public key is fine. I'd like the VM to have network access out of the box; NAT to a virtual network interface is fine. Why a VM? Chroots don't really cut it: installing, say, Apache in a chroot would fail because it would try to listen on port 80, which is already taken. Containers might work, though, if there are any that are supported by standard Ubuntu kernels.
