• Git for beginners: The definitive practical guide

  Ok, after seeing this post by PJ Hyett, I have decided to skip to the end and go with git. So what I need is a beginners practical guide to git. "Beginner" being defined as someone who knows how to handle their compiler, understands to some level what a makefile is, and has touched source control without understanding it very well. "Practical" being defined as this person doesn't want to get into great detail regarding what git is doing in the background, and doesn't even care (or know) that it's distributed. Your answers might hint at the possibilities, but try to aim for the beginner that wants to keep a 'main' repository on a 'server' which is backed up and secure, and treat their local repository as merely a 'client' resource.   I've been looking for a solution to this for years, but nothing is conclusively documented. There are many Shoutcast Flash players out there (e.g. radio.de) so I know it's possible. However, most of my research leads to this: s = new Sound(); s.loadSound ("url.of.shoutcaststream:8003",true); Which works for me in FireFox but not in IE. I don't want to buy a component, I want to know how those components do it so that I can build my own custom player.

• Problems with Google Maps API v3 + jQuery UI Tabs

  There are a number of problems, which seem to be fairly well-known, when using the Google Maps API to render a map within a jQuery UI tab. I've seen SO questions posted about similar issues (here and here, for example) but the solutions there only seem to work for v2 of the Maps API. Other references I checked out are here and here, along with pretty much everything I could dig up through Googling. I've been trying to stuff a map (using v3 of the API) into a jQuery tab with mixed results. I'm using the latest versions of everything (currently jQuery 1.3.2, jQuery UI 1.7.2, don't know about Maps). In fact, the best-functioning code uses the CSS .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-hide { display: none; } instead. The only way to get a map to display in a tab at all is to set the CSS width and height of #map_canvas to be absolute values. Changing the width and height to auto or 100% causes the map to not display at all, even if it's already been successfully rendered (using absolute width and height). I couldn't find it documented anywhere outside of the Maps API, but map.checkResize() won't work anymore. Instead, you have to fire a resize event by calling google.maps.event.trigger(map, 'resize'). If the map is not initialized inside of a function bound to a tabsshow event, the map itself is rendered correctly but the controls are not - most are just plain missing. So, here are my questions: Does anyone else have experience accomplishing this same feat? If so, how did you figure out what would actually work, since the documented tricks don't work for Maps API v3? What about loading tab content using Ajax as per the jQuery UI docs? I haven't had a chance to play around with it but my guess is that it's going to break Maps even more. What are the chances of getting it to work (or is it not worth trying)? How do I make the map fill the largest possible area? I'd like it to fill the tab and adapt to page resizes, much in the way that it's done over at maps.google.com. But, as I said, I appear to be stuck with applying only absolute width and height CSS to the map div. Sorry if this was long-winded but this might be the only documentation for Maps API v3 + jQuery tabs. Cheers!

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) from the dependency walker i'm seeing that SZLIBDLL.DLL is missing i tried to download it from random place but then i got another error. • WCF Data Service BeginSaveChanges not saving changes in Silverlight app

  I'm having a hell of a time getting WCF Data Services to work within Silverlight. I'm using the VS2010 RC. I've struggled with the cross domain issue requiring the use of clientaccesspolicy.xml & crossdomain.xml files in the web server root folder, but I just couldn't get this to work. I've resorted to putting both the Silverlight Web App & the WCF Data Service in the same project to get past this issue, but any advice here would be good. But now that I can actually see my data coming from the database and being displayed in a data grid within Silverlight I thought my troubles were over - but no. I can edit the data and the in-memory entity is changing, but when I call BeginSaveChanges (with the appropriate async EndSaveChangescall) I get no errors, but no data updates in the database. • jQuery "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object expected"

  I have the below code that does not seem to work at all :( I keep getting: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object expected The error seems to occur when the timeout is done. So if I raise the timeout with 10 seconds the error holds for another 10 seconds. I want to be able to update the number of friends online async. The number is shown with the following html: <a href="" id="showChat" >Friends online <strong id="friendsOnline">(?)</strong></a> The friends part is set at the first run, but when the timeout calls back it does not fire again. Also, I cannot see on which line the error occurs because if I want to break on the error it just shows "no source code" etc. The code below is the code I'm using.   There's something that I don't get it yet in Xtrareport. I have to bind the datasource at runtime and also I have to assign the datasource to the labels programatically. Binding data at runtime is fine ,(and here's my question)I did not get from any examples to how should I bind the datasource to the labels and how to pass the parameter(UserId) from runtime and how to call the report from a webform. For example, I have a table called "User" with 3 fields: UserId, Username and Password. In the report designer I place 3 labels. Then I have a webform where the user is entering the userID and pulling some data and I have a print button on that webform when the user clicks the print button the data should be displayed on the report of UserId..

• No Properties path set - looking in classpath

  For whatever reason my project has decided it cannot find my transaction.properties file. It is located in the : src/main/resource However it looks in looks in target/classes/ The file also resides yet throws the errors(see below) These all seem to stem from the whole in the init of code I have no acces to which is always fun. • Linux - serial port read returning EAGAIN...

  Hello all! I am having some trouble reading some data from a serial port I opened the following way. I've used this instance of code plenty of times and all worked fine, but now, for some reason that I cant figure out, I am completely unable to read anything from the serial port. But... when I do a read afterwards, I get a "Resource Temporarily Unavailable" error from errno. I tested select to see when the file descriptor had something t read... but it always times out! I read data like this: ret = read(hCom, rxchar, n); and I always get an EAGAIN and I have no idea why. All help would be appreciated. Cheers

The inner listbox renders fine, but it doesn't actually subscribe to the CollectionChanged event on the collection. I have tried this with ICollection instead of IEnumerable and adding INotifyPropertyChanged as well as replacing INotifyCollectionChanged with INotifyPropertyChanged. The only way I can actually get this to work is to gut my SomeCollection class and inherit from ObservableCollection. My reasoning for trying to role my own INotifyCollectionChanged instead of using ObservableCollection is because I am wrapping a COM collection in the real code. That collection will notify on add/change/remove and I am trying to convert these to INotify events for WPF. Hope this is clear enough (its late).

  IE8 throws an "Error: Object required" message (error in the actual jquery library script, not my javascript file) when the switch statement in this function runs. This code works in IE6, IE7, FF3, and Safari... Any ideas? Does it have something to do with the '$(this)' selector in the switch?   Hello, I have a camera on my network, I am trying to connect to it with suds but suds doesn't send all the information needed. I need to put extra soap headers not defined in the WSDL file so the camera can understand the message. All the headers are contained in a SOAP envelope and then the suds command be in the body of the message. I bind it with à itemsource that contaned à boolean and i can see that my checkboxes or checked or not by the boolean everything is OK at this point. but the checkboxs cells are in ReadOnly even if i assigne IsReadOnly = False. I cant find the right and clean way to enable the editing. I dont need data validation but juste to be able to edit and check those checkboxes :) If anyone can help! thanks !!

  I have a hybrid asp.net web forms / mvc application that I recently converted to .net 4 with mvc2. I have set-up that application to run on IIS 7.5 (on Windows 7) and the web forms part of the site is running okay but the MVC part is not. Whenever I try and access a page that needs to go through the routing engine I get HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 I'm debugging this web site through VS2010 (so I've set-it-up to use IIS instead of Cassini) and when I put a break point in the Application_Start function it is never hit so the routes are never registered. When I put a break point in the Page_Load function in one of the aspx page code-behinds it gets hit. So it seems that the problem is that the route is not being registered. What am I missing?

As part of file validation I have used CAPICOM (SignedCode object) to validate if a certificate contains a specific string and call to Validate method of the SignedCode object. In case the file contains certificate without a requested string in the name, user was prompted if he trust this file. Since CAPICOM going to be deprecated by Microsoft, I need to implement these logic using .NET libraries. How I can get the same functionality using .NET libraries? Is there any example on the web?   Hey all, I have an input field and I want to limit it to alphanumerical (A-Z, a-z, 0-9) characters only, with a MINIMUM field length of 5, and a maximum length of up to 15 characters total. Does anyone know how I can do this using jQuery? I'm trying to use the jQuery input mask by digitalBush - http://digitalbush.com/projects/masked-input-plugin/ The problem is that UNLESS I enter 15 characters, the field goes blank. If I enter "012345678912345" (15 characters) in the input field then the value is stored and it's fine. But if I enter "12345" as a username, when that input box loses focus its value goes back to being blank.   I am trying to get to grips with MS Dynamics CRM 2011. I have have the beta installed on a VM and things look pretty good - some great new features etc. However I am getting an exception when trying to connect to the new XRMServices (updated 2011 WCF web services) Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/organame/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: 'System.ServiceModel.Description.UseRequestHeadersForMetadataAddressBehavior'. This collection only supports one instance of each type. Parameter name: item. ---> System.ArgumentException: The value could not be added to the collection, as the collection already contains an item of the same type: 'System.ServiceModel.Description.UseRequestHeadersForMetadataAddressBehavior'. This collection only supports one instance of each type. Parameter name: item The only reference to this exception I gave found suggests that it is caused by multiple bindings configured in IIS, which in my case I did have, but the problem persists even after removing them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

However nothing gets drawn (I am using Core Graphics to draw some lines on a derived UIView). If I call my update via a timer then all is well and good. • Using multiple distinct TCP security binding configurations in a single WCF IIS-hosted WCF service a

  I have a set of IIS7-hosted net.tcp WCF services that serve my ASP.NET MVC web application. The web application is accessed over the internet. WCF Services (IIS7) <--> ASP.NET MVC Application <--> Client Browser The services are username authenticated, the account that a client (of my web application) uses to logon ends up as the current principal on the host. I want one of the services to be authenticated differently, because it serves the view model for my logon view. When it's called, the client is obviously not logged on yet. I figure Windows authentication serves best or perhaps just certificate based security (which in fact I should use for the authenticated services as well) if the services are hosted on a machine that is not in the same domain as the web application. That's not the point here though. Using multiple TCP bindings is what's giving me trouble. I tried setting it up like this: <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding> <security mode="TransportWithMessageCredential"> <message clientCredentialType="UserName"/> </security> </binding> <binding name="public"> <security mode="Transport"> <message clientCredentialType="Windows"/> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> The thing is that both bindings don't seem to want live together in my host. When I remove either of them, all's fine but together they produce the following exception on the client: The requested upgrade is not supported by 'net.tcp://localhost:8081/Service2.svc'. This could be due to mismatched bindings (for example security enabled on the client and not on the server). In the server trace log, I find the following exception: Protocol Type application/negotiate was sent to a service that does not support that type of upgrade. Am I looking into the right direction or is there a better way to solve this?
