    Hi, I'm about to install new bunch of software on a Windows XP Pro PC and found InstallPad as a potential method to do it all. However before using it I was wondering if there were any other similar apps that could be better or easier to use? Requirements (should haves more than must haves): - Free - Easy to use and configure - preferably from point and click in a GUI instead of command line params or config files - Robust - bug free or still in active/ongoing development - Some level of support or active community for help or tips - Pre-existing file lists that can be adapted for own use or used outright.   • How can I create a FreeBSD package using EPM that has the ORIGIN @comment?

    I'm building packages of our internal software products using EPM, and over time these packages (of which we have a large number) clutter up the output of pkg_delete and pkg_add with the following general kind of messages: err: pkg_add: package MYPACKAGE has no origin recorded I can see from some old FreeBSD lists that the +CONTENTS file in the package must have a line like this: @comment ORIGIN:some_source_path What I don't see is a way to get this line in place using EPM. Can somebody tell me how to do this?

    Does anyone tell me how to block system calls within a program, please? I am building a system which takes a piece of C source code, compiles it with gcc and runs it. For security reasons, I need to prevent the compiled program from calling system calls. Is there any way to do it, from the source code level (e.g. stripping the header files of gcc, detecting malicious external calls, ...) to the executable level?

That should be fine but I'm getting this type of error when building: ld: duplicate symbol .objc_class_name_CJSONScanner in /Users/myappOne/TapjoyConnect/Frameworks/libTapjoyConnectSimulatorRewardInstall_Ads_Pinch.a(CJSONScanner.o) and /Developer/Projects/BuildOutput/Debug-iphonesimulator/OtherLibrary_d.a(CJSONScanner.o) How can I handle this issue?

  • Is it possible to profile memory usage of unit tests?

    I'm looking at building some unit tests to ascertain if resources are leaking (or not) using the unit testing framework that comes with Visual Studio. At present, I'm evaluating the latest version of ANTS Profiler, but I can't quite work out if it allows me to force a snapshot from code (so that I can take a snapshot, run a unit test a few hundred times, force a garbage collection, and take another snapshot, and save the results out for later analysis). Is this possible to do with ANTS/Visual Studio or should I be exploring options with other profilers?

  • AMD Processors and the Windows Phone 8 Emulator

    I would madly appreciate it if anyone in this community would help me with my question. The background is that I want to develop Windows Phone 8 applications but both of my current computer processors do not have Hardware Virtualization & Second Level Address Translation that are needed to run the Emulator. I have my eyes on an AMD computer g7-2243us (I like it because it has 1600x900 screen res). I looked up this Link that shows that this computer's AMD processor (Next Gen AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M Accelerated 1.9GHz up to 2.8GHz 4MB L2 Cache Processor) supports AMD-V Hardware Virtualization. So, will this computer be able to run the emulator? Thank you so much for your answers. I'm pretty sure it will run the emulator, but I just want to make sure before spending $400.   • Problem reinstalling GRUB

    I have a PC that dual-boots Ubuntu and Windows Vista. I recently reinstalled Windows Vista after some problems and now the bootloader's gone. I've been trying to follow this Ubuntu community guide but it's not working. I have Grub Legacy according to the first part (I installed Ubuntu 9.04 originally then upgraded). From the 9.04 LiveCD, I ran this: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/disk /dev/sda5 sda5 is the Ubuntu partition. I get this output: grub-probe: error: Cannot open `/boot/grub/device.map` [: 494: =: unexpected operator Installing GRUB to /dev/sda5 as (hd0,4)... Installation finished.No errors reported. This is the contents...(etc) (hd0) /dev/sda In the bit below, when I run setup (hd0) I get an error, "Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition" Little help?

    Hi, I'm building a download manager in python for fun, and sometimes the connection to the server is still on but the server doesn't send me data, so read method (of HTTPResponse) block me forever. This happens, for example, when I download from a server, which located outside of my country, that limit the bandwidth to other countries.   • CPU Affinity on ARM processors

    I am using some RaspberryPI boards for a data acquisition system. They are nice boards, with plenty of community support around them, but they are really slow. I am thinking of gradually replacing them with ODROID multicore boards, with the Samsung Exynos processors. I have some experience using taskset to set CPU affinity on my servers because I am always running Node.js applications that are by definition single threaded. Now, is it possible to do this on an ARM board? I do not see why it would not in theory, but I have doubts over how well it is going to work. Does anyone have experience with this kind of hack? Also, I would appreciate any comments about ARM CPUs and how they differ from x86.

    I have a project which as part of the build process creates an XMLBeans jar file (stbSchemas.jar) which I want to include and reference in this project. Is this the best way to go about this (Single project) or should I have a child project which is built from the parent project? I am building this using Maven2 inside Eclipse. Is there a better way to do this so that I can maintain the integrity of the projects and stability of the builds.

    I am developing a scheduler for running VMs on KVM. The scheduling has over-commitment of resources like memory and CPU. For this, I need a CLI-based monitoring tool that keeps me giving information about the resource usage of each VM, because it might be the case that due to over-provisioning of resources, VMs on a particular host are running very slowly depending on the benchmarks/programs each VM is running, and then I need to migrate a VM to another host and so on. I looked into libvirt-based tools like collects, MUNIN, Nagios-vert, etc.( http://libvirt.org/apps.html#monitoring ) I also looked into Ubuntu utility perf-kvm ( http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/maverick/man1/perf-kvm.1.html ) I want to ask which CLI-based would be recommended by the community so that I can make a automated scheduler that takes care of the above situation.
