• Lync using SQL 2008 R2 SP1 - Publish Topology error

  Error that shows in the web page opened by the Topology builder: Error: An error occurred: "Microsoft.Rtc.Common.Data.SqlConnectionException" "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" Looking in the log file: ( I assume this is the acutal error making it STOP) Installed SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility version is 8.05.1054 Error: SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility is not installed or its version is not high enough. SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatability SP2 or higher must be installed. I have installed SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi from MS, and cant seem to find this SP2 version. SQL server is a 2008 R2 SP1. • Cannot open SQL 2005 database in SQL server Management Studio 2008 R2 on Windows 7

  I have Windows 7 64bit as my OS + SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. I can connect to SQL Databases (2008), but cannot connect to a SQL 2005 database. I can, however, connect to the 2005 SQL Database on a PC that has Windows XP as the OS and also has SQL Server 2008 R2 installed. So it seems that it works fine on XP but not on Windows 7 (32 or 64bit). is this an Operating System issue?   Hi all, I have a issue with my Spring.Net configuration where its not injecting an object. I have a CommService to which an object named GeneralEmail is injected to.   Details: eth0 = current internet port pptp1 = VPN connection, if I connect to my provider, he give me an IP address, which is accessible from the internet. This is what I need. I want to connect through this IP back to my PC. I want to keep my primary internet connection (eth0) on my PC for all traffic, but route traffic to VPN for specified application/or port, to access application/port from the IP, which I given from the pptp provider. Huhh? Difficult but, it is possible? If yes, how? Incoming port will be always: 33340 Outgoing port can be change, but usually it is 33330

• Changing administrator for hosted Exchange account

  We are using a hosted MS Exchange provider, and they claim that our account can only have one administrator. They also claim that they cannot change which login is granted administrator privileges. This means that the user account that was initially created five years ago is the only account that can change our billing information, among other things. The employee associated with the current admin account is no longer with the company, so we'd like to move the admin privileges to a new "sysadmin" account, and delete this employee's account. Shouldn't this be really easy to do? Is my hosted exchange provider telling the truth?

• Returning large collections from WCF Serivce

  I'm trying to determine the best approach for building a WCF Service, and the area I'm struggling with most is returning lists of objects. The built-in maxMessageSize of 64k seems pretty high, and I really don't want to bump it up (quick googling finds 100s of places bumping the maxMessageSize up to multi-gigabyte range which seems foolish). But, when I'm returning a collection of objects (~150 items) I am exceeding the default 64k. I'm almost to the point of returning my own class which inherits IEnumerable and has properties for hasNext, hasPrevious and PageSize so that I can implement paging on the client side -- this seems like alot of code. The other option is to jackup the maxMessageSize and hope for the best, but that feels wrong. All other aspects of my service are working great, its just returning large collectiosn where I'm having issues. For background, there are two types of consumers of this service, UI applications which will be primarly web and/or wpf applications, and data processing applications, .NET console apps, and maybe some other non-UI apps. For the UI applications, I would like to keep them responsive and keep the messageSize low, on the console apps it doesn't matter as much as they are just pulling data down to do processing and push it back up to the service.

• PHP function returns ZERO.

  Hi guys, I'm having trouble with this PHP function. It keeps returning zero, but I know the SQL statement works because I've queried it myself. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? The last line makes no sense to me...I'm editing this code that someone else wrote. This function should return a number in the hundreds, assuming the date is in March. • Silverlight Async Design Pattern Issue

  I'm in the middle of a Silverlight application and I have a function which needs to call a webservice and using the result complete the rest of the function. My issue is that I would have normally done a synchronous web service call got the result and using that carried on with the function. As Silverlight doesn't support synchronous web service calls without additional custom classes to mimic it, I figure it would be best to go with the flow of async rather than fight it. So my question relates around whats the best design pattern for working with async calls in program flow. In the following example I want to use the myFunction TypeId parameter depending on the return value of the web service call. But I don't want to call the web service until this function is called. • SSL and IP addresses on a dedicated server

  I've just moved from a shared web hosting server operating on WHM/cPanel running six domains with 1 dedicated IP address. 1 of the 6 domains has an SSL certificate. I have since moved to a dedicated server also with 1 dedicated IP and running cPanel/WHM with the same six domains. I want 1 of the domains to have the SSL certificate but I am being told that it's not possible unless I buy another dedicated IP address. I want to question the hosting provider on this but they haven't really acknowledged it - they've just kept saying that it needs its own IP as the IP I am currently using is shared between my six domains. Does anyone have any experience of this and tell me why my new expensive dedicated hosting provider can't setup SSL using the certificate as I had done before on my shared server?

  Hi All, I have an ASP.NET application which requires output caching. I need to invalidate the cached items when the data returned from a web service changes, so a simple duration is not good enough. I have been doing a bit of reading about cache dependencies and think I have the right idea. It looks like I will need to create a cache dependency to my web service. To associate the page output with this dependency I think I should use the following method: Response.AddCacheItemDependency(cacheKey); The thing I am struggling with is what I should add to the cache? The dependency my page has is to a single value returned by the web service. My current thinking is that I should create a Custom Cache Dependency via subclassing CacheDependency, and store the current value in the cache. I can then use Response.AddCacheItemDependency to form the dependency. I can then periodically check the value and for a NotifyDependencyChange in order to invalidate my cached HTTP response. The problem is, I need to ensure that the cache is flushed immediately, so a periodic check is not good enough. How can I ensure that my dependant object in the cache which represents the value returned by the web service is re-evaluated before the HTTP response is fetched from the cache? Regards, Colin E.

  Hi. I'm trying to add some extended error codes to the event log but I get the following error. The description for Event ID ( 109 ) in Source ( PumpServer ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. • .Net assembly references being lost as soon as project is compiled

  I have a windows service project, one of many C# projects in a solution file. I add a reference to my "Data_objects" class library for my windows service. this is added to the references no problem. all the classes become available and I can begin to code. As soon a I compile the windows service it says "The type or namespace name 'Data_Objects' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" yet in the solution explorer the reference is fine, no yellow exclamation mark. I have to remove and add it again for it to pick it up, but then as soon as I compile it loses it. This reference works fine in my two other web application projects. what the hell is going on !! Truegilly Update there are no naming conflicts the only bit of code I have is a using statement - eg using Data_Objects.DataContext; also this only happens with a windows service project, i just created a new web app project and it works fine.

• Outgoing mail from linux not being delivered

  I can't seem to send mail through my php scripts or through the linux console on my Centos 5.5 LAMP server, when the email is addressed to go to a domain that is hosted by my box. I think it is something to do with the email routing internally, or the DNS servers that the box uses not reporting the correct MX records. Basically my box doesn't host any mail, it's all hosted on google apps. My name servers are hosted by a 3rd party provider and I am using webmin. Webmin doesn't recognise the settings on the 3rd party provider. I'm unsure how to fix this. Previously when I had this problem on a cpanel server, I would edit the remotedomains and localdomains files, moving domains from one file to another and it would fix the problem. What information do I need to provide for anyone to work out what the issue is? Thanks

• What are the most time consuming checks performed by .NET when executing a managed appplication?

  I've developed a .NET based Windows service that uses part managed (C#) and unmanaged code (C/C++ libraries). In some domain environments (e.g. Win 2k3 32bit server inside domain abc.com) sometimes the service takes more than 30 seconds to start (especially on OS restart), thus failing to start the service. I suspect that it has something to do with enterprise level security but I do not know for sure. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa720255%28VS.71%29.aspx I've tried the following without success: - delay loading references by moving the using directives as far as possible from the servicebase implementation (especially the xml namespace - know to cause delays in loading) - delay loading and configuring log4net - precompiling the code by using ngen - delaying the start of the worker thread - add/remove manifest + decencies set inside - sign/unsign the binaries - use the configuration settings (there are a lot of settings and the scope level for all is set to application ) as later as possible - add all dependencies to GAC I didn't tried yet to add security demands for the class that has the Main method implemented. I didn't tries to implement my own configuration loader because after inspecting the autogenerated code, I've noticed that the setting class is a singletone and it gets its instance on call. By completely removing the log4net dependency it worked, but this is not an option. When the network card is disabled the service starts immediately. Any suggestions/comments/solution you have would be most welcomed.

• What is auto-mounting my media volume?

  Something is repeatedly mounting my "media" share, doing something with it, then quietly un-mounting it with no notifications at the user level. from the little I can gleaned from the console messages below, I thought I'd managed to stop it, if not understand it last night when I followed instructions for deleting all traces of the Google Update Daemon. I've not been using any Google apps whatsoever, so I was surprised to see that in Console. What's more surprising, and perhaps a little distressing, is that the same thing occurred this evening, when the Google Daemon is long gone. I don't have that log because I can't recall precisely what time it occurred. I'll do a search and provide it if you wish, though. In the meantime, any help with this would be extremely appreciated. I've asked over at Apple Discussions but I think it might be a little deeper than those manning the boards this weekend are comfortable with. It's certainly beyond my meager skills. With apologies in advance if this is more lines thank you need. • Should I Solve this with Multithreading in Ruby?

  I have a strange case, here's the sequence of actions: User edits a document and hits save Application sends GET request to service Service sends POST request back to application in the middle of responding to the GET request Application, in the same state as when it made the GET request, responds to the POST request (sends document data) to service. Service sends data back to Application (responding to original GET request) Application handles the rest... The use case is this: I was thinking how can I make Yahoo Pipes POST data? Specifically, I want it to be able to update Google Docs when a user makes a change locally (on a custom editor). So user edits doc, makes GET request to Yahoo Pipes, Pipes makes a POST request back to App to get the document (Pipes can only make this type of POST request), App sends doc, Pipes formats data according to the Google API, Pipes responds to GET request with Google API formatted XML, App makes the post request. Theoretically, how would I accomplish this? It seems that I need to create a separate ruby Process for the GET request, and when Pipes sends the POST request, I find that process and send its output, then I'm stuck. This would cut out the need for a database for this particular case (I could save the stuff temporarily in a database, but that doesn't seem right). Any ideas? This would make it so I don't have to format things to the Google API in ruby, I could leave that to Pipes.

  Hey all - I'm running SL4 on VS2010. I've got an app that authenticates via a web service to SPROC in my db. Unfortunately this is not WCF/WCF RIA, as I'm inheriting the DB/services from my client. This works perfectly inside of a browser. I'm attempting to move this OOB, and it's at this point that my authentication fails. Here's the steps I took... 1) SL App Properties Enable running app Out of Browser 2) SL App Properties Out of Browser Settings Require elevated trust when running OOB If i set a breakpoint on my logon button click, I see the service call is being made. However, if I step through it (or set a breakpoint on the actual logon web service), the code never gets that far. Here's the block it fails on: public LogonSVC.LogonResponse EndLogon(System.IAsyncResult result) { object[] _args = new object[0]; LogonSVC.LogonResponse _result = ((LogonSVC.LogonResponse)(base.EndInvoke("Logon", _args, result))); return _result; } I know using Elevated Trust means the crossdomain.xml isn't necessary.   How can I inject the value of an appSettings entry (from app.config or web.config) into a service using the Windsor container? If I wanted to inject the value of a Windsor property into a service, I would do something like this: <properties> <importantIntegerProperty>666</importantIntegerProperty> </properties> <component id="myComponent" service="MyApp.IService, MyApp" type="MyApp.Service, MyApp" > <parameters> <importantInteger>#{importantIntegerProperty}</importantInteger> </parameters> </component> However, what I'd really like to do is take the value represented by #{importantIntegerProperty} from an app settings variable which might be defined like this: <appSettings> <add key="importantInteger" value="666"/> </appSettings> EDIT: To clarify; I realise that this is not natively possible with Windsor and the David Hayden article that sliderhouserules refers to is actually about his own (David Hayden's) IoC container, not Windsor. I'm surely not the first person to have this problem so what I'd like to know is how have other people solved this issue?

• Can I use my Ninject .NET project within Orchard CMS?

  I am creating a website using Orchard CMS and I have an external .NET project written with Ninject for dependency injection which I would like to use together with a module within Orchard CMS. I know that Orchard uses Autofac for dependency injection and this is causing me problems since I never worked with DI before. I have created a Autofac module UserModule which registers the source UserRegistrationSource and I configured Orchard to load the module like this: OrchardStarter.cs .... builder.RegisterModule(new UserModule()); ....
