  • ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 2 Route Request Not Working

    Here's the error: The incoming request does not match any route. Basically I upgraded from Preview 1 to Preview 2 and got rid of a load of redundant stuff in relation to areas (as described by Phil Haack). It didn't work so I created a brand new project to check out how its dealt with in Preview 2. The file Default.aspx no longer exists which contains the following: public void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { // Change the current path so that the Routing handler can correctly interpret // the request, then restore the original path so that the OutputCache module // can correctly process the response (if caching is enabled). string originalPath = Request.Path; HttpContext.Current.RewritePath(Request.ApplicationPath, false); IHttpHandler httpHandler = new MvcHttpHandler(); httpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext.Current); HttpContext.Current.RewritePath(originalPath, false); } The error I received points to the line httpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext.Current); yet in newer projects none of this even exists. To test it, I quickly deleted Default.aspx but then absolutely nothing worked, I didn't even receive any errors. Here's some code extracts: Global.asax.cs using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.Mvc; using System.Web.Routing; namespace Intranet { public class MvcApplication : System.Web.HttpApplication { public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); routes.MapRoute( "Default", "{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } ); } protected void App_Start() { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } } } Notice the area registration as that's what I'm using. Routes.cs using System.Web.Mvc; namespace Intranet.Areas.Accounts { public class Routes : AreaRegistration { public override string AreaName { get { return "Accounts"; } } public override void RegisterArea(AreaRegistrationContext context) { context.MapRoute("Accounts_Default", "Accounts/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" }); } } } Check the latest docs for more info on this part.     I'm using ASp.Net MVC and EF 4.3.1. Using POCO t4 template I'm able to create the POCO classes for my model but not validation. At the moment I'm using Partial Classes with MetaData for adding the annotation (leaving intact the POCO auto generated). My question: Could you point me out a tutorial, or show me an example of code or a link to a T4 template the also include automatic VALIDATION for my POCO? THanks

Or should the models be singletons that are dependency injected into any component that requires them? Or should a new model instance be created for each component that needs one, in which case events would be used to propagate changes across model instances of the same class?

Basically what I want to know if that the view for a given action has rendered without errors I m already testing the view model but I want to see that rendering the view giving a correct ViewData.Model works

    Hi guys, I have a View with a Master Page. The user control makes use of a Model: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<BudgieMoneySite.Models.SiteUserLoginModel>" %> This user control is shown on all screens (Part of the Master Page). If the user is logged in, it shows a certain text, and if the user isn't logged in, it offers a login box. That is working OK. Now, I am adding my first functional screen. So I created a new view... and, well, i generated the basic view code for me when I selected the controller method, and said 'Create View'. My Controller has this code: public ActionResult Transactions() { List<AccountTransactionDetails> trans = GetTransactions(); return View(trans); } private List<AccountTransactionDetails> GetTransactions() { List<AccountTransactionDto> trans = Services.TransactionServices.GetTransactions(); List<AccountTransactionDetails> reply = new List<AccountTransactionDetails>(); foreach(var t in trans) { AccountTransactionDetails a = new AccountTransactionDetails(); foreach (var line in a.Transactions) { AccountTransactionLine l = new AccountTransactionLine(); l.Amount = line.Amount; l.SubCategory = line.SubCategory; l.SubCategoryId = line.SubCategoryId; a.Transactions.Add(l); } reply.Add(a); } return reply; } So, my view was generated with this: <%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<System.Collections.Generic.List<BudgieMoneySite.Models.AccountTransactionDetails>>" %> Found <%=Model.Count() % Transactions. All I want to show for now is the number of records I will be displaying. When I run it, I get an error: "The model item passed into the dictionary is of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[BudgieMoneySite.Models.AccountTransactionDetails]', but this dictionary requires a model item of type 'BudgieMoneySite.Models.SiteUserLoginModel'." It looks like the user control is being rendered first, and as the Model from the controller is my List<, it's breaking! What am I doing wrong?

    I'm creating a custom ActionResult class and I need it to be able to operate on a UserControl. All of the examples I've found so far pass in the full path like so: return MyResult("~/ControllerName/UserControlName.ascx", myModel); But I'd like it to operate the same way as calling View(), i.e. I just pass in the name and MVC determines the correct route: return MyResult("UserControlName", myModel); Is there a way I can find out the correct route to the control without specifying it manually?

    Hello guys, I would like to ask what is the ideal folder structure for a MVC framework that should be able to support multiple installations. For example, I install xyz framework and i run two or more sites based on this single installation of xyz framework rather than installing the framework for each site. This is probably done in Codeigniter too but i don't know much about CodeIgniter, so i need your suggestions. I know some of you might even have better idea than what is done by CodeIgniter, so please share.
