• performance monitoring tools for multi-tenant web application

  We have a need to monitor performance of our java web app. We are looking for some tolls which can help us with this task. The major difficulty is that we are SaaS provider with multi-tenant server architecture with hundreds of customers running on the same hardware. So far we tried commercial products like DynaTrace and Coradinat but unfortunately they don't get the job done so far. What we need is a simple report which would tell us if we had performance problems on each customer site in a specified period of time. Mostly it will be response time per customer but also we will need some more specifics based on the URLs. please let me know if someone had any experience with setting up such monitoring. Thanks!

• Problems with sp_addlinkedserver in MSSQL 2000

  Hi! I'm having a bit of a problem with moving specific data from one server running MSSQL 2000 (A) and another running MSSQL 2008 (B). I'm writing a script according to customer specifications which is to be executed on A, populating tables in B with data. However, I can't seem to get the server link to work. -- Bunch of declarations here EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = @ServerName, @srvproduct = @ServerProduct, @provider = @ProviderString, @datasrc = @RemoteHost -- Data migration stuff here EXEC sp_dropserver @ServerName Now if I run the script in its entirety I get an error saying: Msg 7202, Level 11, State 2, Line 55 Could not find server 'remoteServer' in sysservers. Execute sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers. However, if I higlight only the sp_addlinkedserver-part and execute that, there is no error and I can highlight the rest of the script and run it. What am I missing here? Please help! PS. If backup-restore was an option, I would have done that already.

  Hi, I am developing an iPhone app that uses Twitvid library for uploading videos to TwitVid. This library first authenticates the app using the user-name and password input parameters. Then it uploads the video. But, recently I switched to OAuth mechanism of authentication which leads to a web-page where user can enter the user-name and password.   I can perfectly call a WCF web method from localhost. I published to this server: http://luiscarlosch.com/WebFormClean.aspx (only firefox or chrome) with the Visual Studio publishing tool and it works fine. The problem is when a try to access it from another computer. I get the 405: Method Not Allowed. But It doest make sense because It works fine when i access it remotely from the publisher computer as I said. Any idea?   I've designed an EF4 model (quite complex inheritance, lots of small tables incl. multiple self-referencing), generated (table-per-type) a database and inserted some basic data manually. It works fine in an ASP.Net Dynamic Data Entities web application with full automatic scaffolding. But when in a WinForms application using the same model (I share it as a part of a class library) I construct a query and bind a combo box to it (the way it's shown here), I get an InnerException {"Internal .NET Framework Data Provider error 1004, 0, Unable to find property... I've found a question about the same problem here (incl. a sample to reproduce the error) but no answer. I use final Visual Studio 2010, no beta.

• Windows Azure - Microsoft.IdentityModel not found

  I installed WIF runtime and SDK on my machine. I added Microsoft.IdentityModel.dll to my azure web application and locally everything is running great. I build simple web application which use Azure AppFabric Access control. I follow azure labs for that and as I told, local everything is great. When I published my web application to Azure, I'm getting following error : Unable to find assembly 'Microsoft.IdentityModel, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35'. I get it after Appfabric Relaying part is going to return url, after sign in on identity provider. The weird thing is that I set Copy Local to TRUE, because that .dll is not part of Azure GAC. I tried to publish it again, but I received same error. I found few same problems on the internet but with no concrete solution. Does anybody here had something similar and probably have a working solution? Thank you in advance

• Continuously checking database from a Windows service

  I am making a Windows service which needs to continuously check for database entries that can be added at any time to tell it to execute some code. It is looking to see if it's status is set to pending, and it's execute time entry is than the current time. Is the only way to do this to just run select statements over and over? It might need to execute the code every minute which means I need to run the select statement every minute looking for entries in the database. I'm trying to avoid unneccesary cpu time because I'm probably going to end up paying for cpu cycles on the hosting provider

  Parts of the project I'm currently working on (I can't give details) will be exposed as an API at some point over the next few months and I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a third party API 'provider' (possibly Mashery or SO advertiser Webservius). And I mean recommend in the 'I've used these people and they are good' sense because although I can google for an answer to this question it is more difficult to get truly unbiased opinions.   Hi friends, The issue is this: I have a web application that runs on a PHP server. I'd like to build a REST api for it. I did some research and I figured out that REST api uses HTTP methods (GET, POST...) for certain URI's with an authentication key (not necessarily) and the information is presented back as a HTTP response with the info as XML or JSON (I'd rather JSON). My question is: 1. How do I, as the developer of the app, build those URI's? Do I need to write a PHP code at that URI? 2. How do I build the JSON objects to return as a response?   I am having a frustrating time trying to do something with Perl that would take a couple of lines of code in C#, namely to call a web service on a Windows server that requires Integrated Windows Authentication. The most likely candidate I've found for success is a module called LWP::Authen::Ntlm, but all the examples I've googled require you to explicitly supply username, password and domain. I don't want to do that - I just want the request to use the credentials of the currently logged in user, a la CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials in .NET. Have any of you Perl gurus out there ever had to do this? Thanks.

  Our web app offers a service that allows a "Publisher" to create a website (we give them a CMS system) that is ready to provide this service to "Members" (think Shopify). We have some possible clients that wish to become "Publishers" but they already have existing websites (vbulletin, word press blog, etc) with their own user base. We wish to develop an API that would allow these "Publishers" to keep using their own websites, and embed our services into them. Our main business requirement is that once "Members" are logged into the "Publishers" existing system, they should be able to also access our website without having to log-in again OR have to create another account there. The process should be seamless to the "Member" and "Publishers" should not have to sync their user base with our system. We also want to use an existing API authentication/authorization system instead of creating our own (OAuth, OpenID, etc) What would be the best way to use OAuth to achieve this sigle-sign on design? If OAuth is not the best tool, is there any other one out there that fits our requirements?

The dropdownlist has to be updated from a remote php object and on change to call another remote object service in order to update the datagroup's provider. So I am thinks to dispatch an event from my view and the in my EventMap to call the service and inject the result to the drop down. When the dropdown changes I'll dispatch another event and in the EventMap I'll call another service and I'll inject the result to the datagroup. Is there another more sophisticated way?   I like the Unit test runner in ReSharper 4.5, and would like to use it with my MSTest tests, but one thing annoys me: In some of our solutions, we have set up some Deployment Items in the .testrunconfig file. The ReSharper Unit Test runner does not seem to respect this, so I get errors when trying to run the unit tests from ReSharper. Is there any workraound for this ? Update: citizenmatt's answer was correct, the option to use a .testrunconfig with ReSharper exists in the Options dialog of ReSharper. You have to select the unit test provider on the list, then the controls to do that appears. (That was not obvious or discoverable, at least not for me ;-)

  Hello @all following issue, I configure a DNS Zone "location.domain.tld" for my internal Network and it works well, but now I want to manage the domain.tld for my internal Network, but the domain.tld is managed by an external DNS Provider. In location.domain.tld there are all Clients and Servers for internal use only (with local IPs) all these clients resolve the global Mailserver (for example) over his external Address but now i want to catch single Domainnames and resolve it on my own way.   I've come across the following situation when using OpenID and Google as the authenticator. If you type siteName.com it takes you to http://sitename.com Which returns a different token than if I were to login to www.siteName.com, which would take me to http://www.siteName.com As a result, Google returns a different authentication token. Is there a simple fix around this? Maybe redirect the user from siteName.com to www.siteName.com? Would this be a server issue, or is this something I can do programmatically?   I understand what the two are used for, except I don't know what each does--i.e. what one is for vs. what the other is for. (I usually set them to the same account anyway.) If you're not sure what accounts I'm talking about, in the IIS manager thingy: Right-click on the app pool in question, go to Properties, and click the Identity tab to see the App Pool Identity. Right-click a Web site, go to Properties - Directory Security, and click Edit under Anonymous Access and authentication control to view the Account for anonymous access.

  I've never seen this done but I had an idea of doing authorization in a more purely OO way. For each method that requires authorization we associate a delegate. During initialization of the class we wire up the delegates so that they point to the appropriate method (based on the user's rights). For example: class User { private deleteMemberDelegate deleteMember; public StatusMessage DeleteMember(Member member) { if(deleteMember != null) { deleteMember(member); } } //other methods defined similarly... User(string name, string password) //cstor. { //wire up delegates based on user's rights. //Thus we handle authentication and authorization in the same method. } } This way the client code never has to explictly check whether or not a user is in a role, it just calls the method. Of course each method should return a status message so that we know if and why it failed. Thoughts?
