How can I find the places of system calls of my program?

From strace manual: -i Print the instruction pointer at the time of the system call. I straced my programm: strace -i prog As a result I got a lot of system calls. One of them: [000da49c] open("./rabbit.o", O_RDONLY) = 3 But disassembled instruction at this address of prog doesn't call any syscall (hte editor): da49c ! mov r7, ip What is wrong? How can I find the places of system calls of my program? P.S. Architecture of my device doesn't support GDB-command catch syscall.

Pushing a variable onto a vector, value at that point in vector changes when the variable does.

I have a programming problem =) std::vector<char*> Names; if(MyPacket.ID == 3) {Names.push_back(MyPacket.Buffer);} I push the recieved buffer onto a vector like so, but when the buffer changes so does the value of the variable at that point in the vector. So say I sent and pushed a buffer containing 'Simon' onto the vector that would be fine so at point [0] on the vector would be the word Simon. but then when I recieve a new buffer it overwrites position [0] even though the packets ID is different, a breakpoint within the if statement is not reached with this new buffer. I really hope i'm explaining this well enough, I tried asking a friends advice and he pointed me towards this site. Any help appreciated David Andrews

ShellExecute not working from IDE but works otherwise.

I want to create and then open a txt file using the ShellExecute command. I have used this code for years with Delphi 7 and it worked: function Executa(CONST ExeName, Parameters: string): Boolean; begin if Parameters= '' then Result:= ShellExecute(0, 'open', PChar(ExeName), NIL , nil, SW_SHOWNORMAL)> 32 else Result:= ShellExecute(0, 'open', PChar(ExeName), PChar(Parameters), nil, SW_SHOWNORMAL)> 32; end; Now, I switch to Windows 7 (don't like it; they stuck it on my throat with my new laptop) 64 bit and the code is not working anymore when it runs from IDE. Delhi shows the CPU window with the caption "CPU-Process unknown (2352)". I close the CU windows and everything works fine until I close the application, when Delphi shows the CPU window one more time. If I run the app from outside IDE, it works fine. Looks like the debugger has something to say to me, but I don't know what.

Nothing = String.Empty (Why are these equal?)

I find it very puzzling that null equals String.Empty in VB.NET. There must be an explanation for it that I'm not understanding. Somehow, when the equality of String.Empty (which has an object type of string) is tested against Nothing (which has no type) the test returns true. It just seems like a turn around in logic to me. In SQL if I were to compare an empty char or varchar against a null value, the test wouldn't return true. A null value is not the same as an empty string in this case. Yet in VB.NET they are equal. I'd love it if someone could provide a good explanation around this.

wonder about some #define tricks

Whlie reading codes of my group project, I come across many DEFINEs, and some of them seems strange. To generalize it, please look at the following 2 examples. Example 1: #define SNPRINTF(dst, fmt, arg...) snprintf(dst, sizeof(dst), fmt, ##arg) what does "##" means in this circumstance? I've tried to delete both of them, and write codes like "char buf[1024]; SNPRINTF(buf,"%s,%s","abcd","efg");" which produced the same result. So "##" seems no use and no harm to me. Example 2: #define CLOSE(fd) do { \ if (-1 != (fd)) { \ close(fd); \ (fd) = -1; \ } \ } while (0) Necessary to stuff the inner code to the do{}while(0) statement? what's the use? Thanks!

QML 5.3 iOS compilation of pure QML app

I have an application written in QML. Initially, I used the standard C++ bootstrap for the app. int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QApplication app(argc, argv); // A bunch of components and data models written in C++ QQmlApplicationEngine engine; engine.load(QUrl(QStringLiteral("qrc:///main.qml"))); return app.exec(); } The bulk of the app is in QML and the more I work with QML, the happier I am with it and the more I feel comfortable converting the C++ pieces to QML. So, it comes to one risk that I wanted to ask about. If I convert the app to a pure QML application like the kind generated by the Qt Quick UI application wizard with no C++ and designed to be run with qmlscene will I be able to compile it for iOS when the time to port it comes or will I end up just converting it back to the C++ loader form? TL;DR Can pure QML (no C++) apps be compiled and run on iOS devices?

What is a practical, real world example of the Linked List?

I understand the definition of a Linked List, but how can it be represented and related to a common concept or item? For example, inheritance in OOP can be related to automobiles. All (most) automobiles in real life are the essentially same thing; an automobile has an Engine, you can start() it, you can make the car go(), stop() and so on. An automobile would typically have a maximum passenger capacity but it would differ between a Bus and a SportsCar, which are both automobiles. Is there some real life, intuitive example of the plain ole' singly Linked List like we have with inheritance? The typical textbook Linked List example shows a node with an integer and a pointer to the next, and it just doesn't seem very useful. Your input is appreciated.

Hi i just put up a validation function in jScript to validate filename in fileupload control[input type file]. The function seems to work fine in FF and sometimes in ie but never in Chrome. Basically the function tests if File name is atleast 1 char upto 25 characters long.Contains only valid characters,numbers [no spaces] and are of file types in the list. How to stop toggle event from being fired multiple times on mouseenter/mouseleave?

Hi, I'm using jQuery to toggle the visibility of a using the jQuery toggle method. The toggle is fired on the mouseenter and mouseleave event, thus creating the effect of the div to fold out on mouseenter and fold in on mouseleave. Problem is, if the user drags the mouse over the a few times and then leaves the , the div will toggle in and out several times. This can happen if the user accidentally moves around the mouse pointer in the are. Do anyone have any idea on how I can avoid this behavior? Thanx!

BULK INSERT with inconsitant number of columns

I am trying to load a large amount data in SQL server from a flat file using BULK INSERT. However, my file has varying number of column, for instance the first row contains 14 and the second contains 4. That is OK, I just want to make a table with the max number of columns and load the file into it with nulls for the missing columns. I can play with it from that point. But it seems that SQL Server when reaching the end of the line and having more columns to fill for that same row in the destination table, just moves on to the next line and attempts to put the data on that line to the wrong column of the table. Is there a way to get the behavior that I am looking for? Is there a table hint that I can use the specify this? Has anyone run into this before? How to set a reference from one object to another?

Hi, Imagine the obvious model of employees and departments, where each employee must refer to a single department, and each department may have none to many employees. For Employee I have a pointer to Department, and I set its value to the address of the object of the relevant Department. When I try to save the Employee I get an error: 2010-04-07 10:05:22.491 CoreData2[1112:207] * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: Department)' I tried, just for testing, to make the reference from Employee to Department optional, but I get the same result. Is a switch statement ok for 30 or so conditions?

I am in the final stages of creating an MP4 tag parser in .Net. For those who have experience with tagging music you would be aware that there are an average of 30 or so tags. If tested out different types of loops and it seems that a switch statement with Const values seems to be the way to go with regard to catching the tags in binary. The switch allows me to search the binary without the need to know which order the tags are stored or if there are some not present but I wonder if anyone would be against using a switch statement for so many conditionals. Any insight is much appreciated.

How do I keep the instance beyond the method where it was allocated? I assign values in one method and want to be able to use those values in other methods. Container of shared_ptr's but iterate with raw pointers

I have a class that holds a list containing boost::shared_ptrs to objects of another class. The class member functions that give access to the elemets in the list return raw pointers. For consistency I'd also like to be able to iterate with raw pointers instead of shared_ptrs. So when I dereference the list iterator, I'd like to get raw pointer, not a shared_ptr. I assume I need to write a custom iterator for this. Is this correct? If so can someone point me in the right direction - I've never done this before.

I have a derived TextBox where I intercept the userinput to manipulate it. However I have to preserve the original typed input. So my idea was to hold an inner TextBox within my derived class and send the user's input to that TextBox before manipulating it. The reason for this approach is that I do not want to take care of all this special actions like: typing something, ctrl+a, [del], type something else, [backspace] and so on ... However I do not know how to send a single keystroke (keycode, ascii, char) to a TextBox. Maybe you have another idea without an inner TextBox at all? Thank you!

Address Book is returning old values

Hi there, I am having a problem with the AddressBook framework. It all seems to be stemming from ABCopyRecordForUniqueId returning a record with old data. Example: I run up the program below in one terminal window - it shows the current data. I make a change through the address book UI - my program continues to show old data. I run up another instance of the same program in a new terminal window - it shows the updated data. iphone's nsxmlparser parsing RSS causes encoding problems

Hi, Im working on simle RSS reader. This reader loads data from internet via this code: NSXMLParser *rss = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/50405236.rss"]]; My problem is with encoding. RSS 2.0 file is supposed to be UTF8 encoded according to encoding attribute in XML file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> So when I download URLs content I get text truncated after first occurance of char with diacritics, example: l š c t ž ý á í é, etc. I tried to solve the problem by downloading URL as UTF8 string, I used this code: NSString *rssXmlString = [NSString stringWithContentsOfURL: [NSURL URLWithString: @"http://www.macblog.sk/rss.xml"] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error: nil]; NSData *rssXmlData = [rssXmlString dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]; Did not help. Anyone know how to use TValue.AsType<TNotifyEvent> properly?

I'm trying to use RTTI to add an event handler to a control, that may already have an event handler set. It says E2010 Incompatible types: 'procedure, untyped pointer or untyped parameter' and 'TNotifyEvent' Anyone know why that is or how to fix it? It looks right to me...

gcc, UTF-8 and limits.h

My OS is Debian, my default locale is UTF-8 and my compiler is gcc. By default CHAR_BIT in limits.h is 8 which is ok for ASCII because in ASCII 1 char = 8 bits. But since I am using UTF-8, chars can be up to 32 bits which contradicts the CHAR_BIT default value of 8. If I modify CHAR_BIT to 32 in limits.h to better suit UTF-8, what do I have to do in order for this new value to come into effect ? I guess I have to recompile gcc ? Do I have to recompile the linux kernel ? What about the default installed Debian packages, will they work ?
