  • Why won't C++ allow this default value

    - by nieldw
Why won't GCC allow a default parameter here? template<class edgeDecor, class vertexDecor, bool dir> Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> Graph<edgeDecor,vertexDecor,dir>::Dijkstra(vertex s, bool print = false) const { This is the output I get: graph.h:82: error: default argument given for parameter 2 of ‘Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> Graph<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>::Dijkstra(Vertex<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>, bool)’ graph.h:36: error: after previous specification in ‘Graph<edgeDecor, int, dir> Graph<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>::Dijkstra(Vertex<edgeDecor, vertexDecor, dir>, bool)’ Can anyone see why I'm getting this?

  • How do I get the security details for a long path?

    - by Biff MaGriff
Hello, I am doing a file server migration and I'm writing a small C# app to help me map the user permissions so we can put them in user groups. I'm currently using Directory.GetAccessControl(path); However it fails when it get to this 263 char file path. Invalid name. Parameter name: name I get the same error when I use DirectoryInfo.GetAccessControl(); Is there a work around or alternative to this method? Thanks!

  • Limit scope of #define

    - by Ujjwal Singh
What is the correct strategy to limit the scope of #define and avoid unwarrented token collisions. In the following configuration: Main.c # include "Utility_1.h" # include "Utility_2.h" VOID Utility() // Was written without knowing of: Utility_1 & Utility_2 { const UINT ZERO = 0; } VOID Main() { ... } // Collision; for Line:5 Compiler does not indicate what replaced Utility_1.h # define ZERO "Zero" # define ONE "One" BOOL Utility_1(); Utility_2.h # define ZERO '0' # define ONE '1' BOOL Utility_2(); Utility_2.c # include "Utility_2.h" BOOL Utility_2() { // Using: ZERO & ONE } //Collision: Character Literal replaced with String {Edit} Note: This is supposed to be a generic quesition so do not limit yourself to enum or other defined types. i.e. What to do when: I MUST USE #define Please comment on my proposed solution below.. _

  • best way to output a full precision double into a text file

    - by flevine100
Hi, I need to use an existing text file to store some very precise values. When read back in, the numbers essentially need to be exactly equivalent to the ones that were originally written. Now, a normal person would use a binary file... for a number of reasons, that's not possible in this case. So... do any of you have a good way of encoding a double as a string of characters (aside from increasing the precision). My first thought was to cast the double to a char[] and write out the chars. I don't think that's going to work because some of the characters are not visible, produce sounds, and even terminate strings ('\0'... I'm talkin to you!) Thoughts?

  • fgets, sscanf, and writing to arrays

    - by alldavidsluck
beginner question here, I haven't been able to find examples that relate. I'm working on a C program that will take integer input from stdin using fgets and sscanf, and then write it to an array. However, I'm not sure how to make fgets write to the array. #define MAXINT 512 char input[MAXINT] int main(void) { int i; int j; int count=0; int retval; while (1==1) { fgets(input, MAXINT[count], stdin); retval = sscanf(input, "%d", &i); if (retval == 1) { count = count++; } else if (retval != 1) { break; } } Would I simply put fgets in a for loop? or is it more complicated than that?

  • Leak caused by fread

    - by Jack
I'm profiling code of a game I wrote and I'm wondering how it is possible that the following snippet causes an heap increase of 4kb (I'm profiling with Heapshot Analysis of Xcode) every time it is executed: u8 WorldManager::versionOfMap(FILE *file) { char magic[4]; u8 version; fread(magic, 4, 1, file); <-- this is the line fread(&version,1,1,file); fseek(file, 0, SEEK_SET); return version; } According to the profiler the highlighted line allocates 4.00Kb of memory with a malloc every time the function is called, memory which is never released. This thing seems to happen with other calls to fread around the code, but this was the most eclatant one. Is there anything trivial I'm missing? Is it something internal I shouldn't care about? Just as a note: I'm profiling it on an iPhone and it's compiled as release (-O2).

  • APP CAN'T LAUNCH IN XCODE

    - by user2977180
I'm beginning to code in xCode 5 and I'm doing a really simple app. I just began and, when I try to test my game with iOS Simulator, the main page opens, but when I click on the button to launch the game, I'm redirected to xCode and this appears: #import "AppDelegate.h" #import "AppDelegate.h" int main(int argc, char * argv[]) { @autoreleasepool { return UIApplicationMain(argc, argv, nil, NSStringFromClass([AppDelegate class])); } } and just next to it, this is written: Thread 1 : Signal SIGABRT I searched on internet and I just can't seem to find an answer. Could someone help me please???

  • remote function with pthread

    - by user311130
Hi all, I wrote some code in c, using pthread (I configured the linker and compiler in eclipse IDE first). #include <pthread.h> #include "starter.h" #include "UI.h" Page* MM; Page* Disk; PCB* all_pcb_array; void* display_prompt(void *id){ printf("Hello111\n"); return NULL; } int main(int argc, char** argv) { printf("Hello\n"); pthread_t *thread = (pthread_t*) malloc (sizeof(pthread_t)); pthread_create(thread, NULL, display_prompt, NULL); printf("Hello\n"); return 1; } that works fine. However, when I move display_prompt to UI.h no "Hello111 " output is printed. anyone know how to solve that? Elad

  • Transferring data from 2d Dynamic array in C to CUDA and back

    - by Soumya
    I have a dynamically declared 2D array in my C program, the contents of which I want to transfer to a CUDA kernel for further processing. Once processed, I want to populate the dynamically declared 2D array in my C code with the CUDA processed data. I am able to do this with static 2D C arrays but not with dynamically declared C arrays. Any inputs would be welcome! I mean the dynamic array of dynamic arrays. The test code that I have written is as below. #include "cuda_runtime.h" #include "device_launch_parameters.h" #include <stdio.h> #include <conio.h> #include <math.h> #include <stdlib.h> const int nItt = 10; const int nP = 5; __device__ int d_nItt = 10; __device__ int d_nP = 5; __global__ void arr_chk(float *d_x_k, float *d_w_k, int row_num) { int index = (blockIdx.x * blockDim.x) + threadIdx.x; int index1 = (row_num * d_nP) + index; if ( (index1 >= row_num * d_nP) && (index1 < ((row_num +1)*d_nP))) //Modifying only one row data pertaining to one particular iteration { d_x_k[index1] = row_num * d_nP; d_w_k[index1] = index; } } float **mat_create2(int r, int c) { float **dynamicArray; dynamicArray = (float **) malloc (sizeof (float)*r); for(int i=0; i<r; i++) { dynamicArray[i] = (float *) malloc (sizeof (float)*c); for(int j= 0; j<c;j++) { dynamicArray[i][j] = 0; } } return dynamicArray; } /* Freeing memory - here only number of rows are passed*/ void cleanup2d(float **mat_arr, int x) { int i; for(i=0; i<x; i++) { free(mat_arr[i]); } free(mat_arr); } int main() { //float w_k[nItt][nP]; //Static array declaration - works! //float x_k[nItt][nP]; // if I uncomment this dynamic declaration and comment the static one, it does not work..... float **w_k = mat_create2(nItt,nP); float **x_k = mat_create2(nItt,nP); float *d_w_k, *d_x_k; // Device variables for w_k and x_k int nblocks, blocksize, nthreads; for(int i=0;i<nItt;i++) { for(int j=0;j<nP;j++) { x_k[i][j] = (nP*i); w_k[i][j] = j; } } for(int i=0;i<nItt;i++) { for(int j=0;j<nP;j++) { printf("x_k[%d][%d] = %f\t",i,j,x_k[i][j]); printf("w_k[%d][%d] = %f\n",i,j,w_k[i][j]); } } int size1 = nItt * nP * sizeof(float); printf("\nThe array size in memory bytes is: %d\n",size1); cudaMalloc( (void**)&d_x_k, size1 ); cudaMalloc( (void**)&d_w_k, size1 ); if((nP*nItt)<32) { blocksize = nP*nItt; nblocks = 1; } else { blocksize = 32; // Defines the number of threads running per block.   • usage of 2 charectors in single qoutes in c

    - by user1632141
#include<stdio.h> int main() { char ch = 'A'; printf("%d\n",'ag'); printf("%d\n",'a'); printf("%d, %d, %d, %d", sizeof(ch), sizeof('a'), sizeof('Ag'), sizeof(3.14f)); return 0; } I used to have many doubts on the output of this question while running on g++ and gcc. But I have cleared almost all the doubts by referring these links: Single and double quotes in C/C++ Single quotes vs. double quotes in C I still need to understand one thing about the output of this question. Can someone please explain the output of printf("%d\n",'ag'); mentioned above in the program. How is it actually stored in the memory? The output for the program on the Linux/GCC platform is: 24935 97 1, 4, 4, 4

  • Accessing Password Protected Network Drives in Windows in C#?

    - by tkeE2036
Hi Everyone, So in C# I am trying to access a file on a network, for example at "//applications/myapp/test.txt", as follows: const string fileLocation = @"//applications/myapp/test.txt"; using (StreamReader fin = new StreamReader(FileLocation)) { while(!fin.EndOfStream()){ //Do some cool stuff with file } } However I get the following error: System.IO.IOException : Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. I figure its because I need to supply some network credentials but I'm not sure how to get those to work in this situation. Does anyone know the best way (or any way) to gain access to these files that are on a a password protected location? Thanks in advance!!

  • When do I need to deallocate memory?

    - by extintor
I am using this code inside a class to make a webbrowser control visit a website: void myClass::visitWeb(const char *url) { WCHAR buffer[MAX_LEN]; ZeroMemory(buffer, sizeof(buffer)); MultiByteToWideChar(CP_ACP, MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS, url, strlen(url), buffer, sizeof(buffer)-1); VARIANT vURL; vURL.vt = VT_BSTR; vURL.bstrVal = SysAllocString(buffer); // webbrowser navigate code... VariantClear(&vURL); } I call visitWeb from another void function that gets called on the handlemessage() for the app. Do I need to do some memory deallocation here?, I see vURL is being deallocated by VariantClear but should I deallocate memory for buffer? I've been told that in another bool I have in the same app I shouldn't deallocate anything because everything clear out when the bool return true/false, but what happens on this void?

  • Strange error with CreateCompatibleDC

    - by sevaxx
Maybe this is a foolish question, I can't see why I can not get a DC created in the following code : HBITMAP COcrDlg::LoadClippedBitmap(LPCTSTR pathName,UINT maxWidth,UINT maxHeight) { HBITMAP hBmp = (HBITMAP)::LoadImage(NULL, pathName, IMAGE_BITMAP, 0, 0, LR_LOADFROMFILE | LR_CREATEDIBSECTION); if (!hBmp) return NULL; HDC hdc = (HDC)GetDC(); HDC hdcMem = CreateCompatibleDC(hdc); if (!hdcMem) { DWORD err = GetLastError(); } ... ... ... The bitmap hBmp is loaded fine and hdc has a valid value. But the call to CreateCompatibleDC() returns a NULL pointer. Then, GetLastError() returns 0 ! Anybody can guess what's going on here , please ? PS : There are no memory allocations or GDI routines called before this one...so I think memory leaks should be ruled out.

  • When to pass by value?

    - by Dervin Thunk
Dear all. I was wondering if there are examples of situations where you would purposefully pass an argument by value in C. Let me rephrase. When do you purposefully use C's pass-by-value for large objects? Or, when do you care that the object argument is fully copied in a local variable? EDIT: Now that I think about it, if you can avoid pointers, then do. Nowadays, "deep" copying is possible for mostly everything in small apps, and shallow copying is more prone to pointer bugs. Maybe.

  • converting string to int in C++

    - by xbonez
I am trying to convert a string I read in from a file to an int value so I can store it in an integer variable. This is what my code looks like: ifstream sin; sin.open("movie_output.txt"); string line; getline(sin, line); myMovie.setYear(atoi(line)); Over here, setYear is a mutator in the Movie class (myMovie is an object of Movie class) that looks like this: void Movie::setYear(unsigned int year) { year_ = year; } When I run the code, I get the following error: error C2664: 'atoi' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'std::string' to 'const char *' 1> No user-defined-conversion operator available that can perform this conversion, or the operator cannot be called

  • Removing a UIView from its superView and expanding its frame to full screen

    - by Magic Bullet Dave
I have an object that is a subclass of UIView that can be added to a view hierarchy as a subView. I want to be able to remove the UIView from its superView and add it as a subView of the main window and then expand to full screen. Something along the lines of: // Remove from superView and add to mainWindow [self retain]; [self removeFromSuperView]; [self addSubView:mainWindow]; // Animate to full screen [UIView beginAnimations:@"expandToFullScreen" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; self.frame = [[UIScreen mainScreen] applicationFrame]; [UIView commitAnimations]; [self release]; Firstly am I on the right lines? Secondly, is there an easily way for the object to get a pointer to the mainWindow? Thanks Dave

  • PHP Escaping from HTML, faster, cleanner?!

    - by rno
I've read about it from the php website (http://us3.php.net/manual/en/language.basic-syntax.phpmode.php) Using: echo "<html tag>" is slower and also annoying because you got to escape char like " with \" But what's about using $output = <<< EOF <html code> EOF; Then later on in the code I can use $output .= <<< EOF <some more html code> EOF; then when I want to print it: echo "$output"; I think it's a great idea, but really wonder what you PHP guru think about it. Cheers, rno

  • C# Convert negative int to 11 bits

    - by Klemenko
I need to convert numbers in interval [–1024, 1016]. I'm converting to 11 bits like that: string s = Convert.ToString(value, 2); //Convert to binary in a string int[] bits = s.PadLeft(11, '0') // Add 0's from left .Select(c => int.Parse(c.ToString())) // convert each char to int .ToArray(); // Convert IEnumerable from select to Array This works perfectly for signed integers [0, 1016]. But for negative integers I get 32 bits result. Do you have any idea how to convert negative integers to 11 bits array?

  • How does C++ free the memory when a constructor throws an exception and a custom new is used

    - by Joshua
I see the following constructs: new X will free the memory if X constructor throws. operator new() can be overloaded. The canonical definition of an operator new overload is void *operator new(heap h) and the corrisponding operator delete. The most common operator new overload is pacement new, which is void *operator new(void *p) { return p; } You almost always cannot call delete on the pointer given to placement new. This leads to a single question. How is memory cleaned up when X constructor throws and an overloaded new is used?

  • JQuery Autocomplete - Stop mouseover+Return submitting data

    - by ILT
I'm using JQuery Autocomplete (bassistance) and have run into a problem. If the mouse rolls over one of the autocomplete suggestions and the user hits the return key (rather than clicking to make selection), the form is submitted and goes to whatever link was rolled over at the time. This is a problem as people click in the textbox, and when typing their search, leave the pointer where the autocomplete popup appears. So when they hit enter, it doesn't do the search for whatever they typed in the box but whatever was highlighted in the autocomplete suggestions. Is there a way to stop this? Using Google as the functionality I'm after... So just to clarify - I want selections via mouse and keyboard to go to the same place, but if the UP or DOWN arrow has not been pressed (user not selected an autocomplete option via the keyword), dont go to the URL specified in the autosuggest - instead submit the form (traditional method without JQuery) based on what has been typed in the textbox. I hope I'm explaining this clearly? :S
