  • Is Android (read typical devices) fast enough for a game that requires plotting pixel by pixel rather than blitting

    i have an idea for an Android game which is a little different from the typical game that usually moves sprites(bitmaps) around the screen. Id want to plot lots of little pixels to create my visuals. PROS no bitmaps required pixel plotting of stuff like "fire" can react to wind. no need to scale bitmaps, works w/ any screen res (lets pretend device can handle more drawing because its got a bigger screen). CONS slower to plot pixels than blit bitmaps need lot of animation frames. WISHES id like to update my game in real time, more is better 30fps is good but not essential, 15fps is enough. PERFORMANCE Q... Is the typical Android device fast enough to plot say half a screenful of pixels w/ a default background ? if full screen is not practical what window size should be able to handle such refreshes

    I read this on msdn: Views let different users to see data in different ways, even when they are using the same data at the same time. This is especially useful when users who have many different interests and skill levels share the same database. For example, a view can be created that retrieves only the data for the customers with whom an account manager deals. The view can determine which data to retrieve based on the login ID of the account manager who uses the view. My question: For the above example , i would have to have a column named Userid/LoginId on my table on which the view is created so that i can apply a check option in the view for this column. and then if a user with a name not in that column tries to enter data , then he/she is blocked.

  • Not enough storage is available to complete this operation - Program or Storage memory?

    I've been given a Windows Mobile app written in .Net CF 3.5 to fix, and one of the problems is to do with storage. The message 'Not enough storage is available to complete this operation' has appeared a few times - it's logged in the SQL CE database, and always happens during data access (but not the same bit of data access). The thing I'm slightly confused about is whether this refers to Program Memory (e.g. RAM) or Storage Memory (e..g permanent storage). It would appear to be storage memory, but the devices seem to have plenty free. While there are some OutOfMemoryExceptions, these appear totally unrelated to this problem (in that that happen at a different time due to an image-related issue). We're using SQL CE 3.5 with a single connection, which is stored along with the app on the device (as opposed to the storage card). The device is a Motorola MC75 running Windows Mobile 6.1. Any thoughts?

  • Problem with httpContext.RewritePath on IIS 7

    I am using httpContext.RewritePath in Global.asax for som URLrewriting, and it works very well in my development environment on the Cassini server. But when I copy it to the production server, witch is a IIS 7 it isn't working. I have also tried to use Context.Server.TransferRequest but thne I get the error: "This operation requires IIS integrated pipeline mode." on both Cassini and IIS 7, and on IIS 7 the website is running in "Integreret" mode in the AppPool. I rewrite all urls on the website like /[The main menuname]/[pagename].aspx fx from /web/thesite.aspx?mainmenu=manager to /manager/thesite.aspx OR /web/theOtherSite.aspx?mainmenu=about to /about/theOtherSite.aspx And so on...   • Delphi : What is the best way for passing data between forms?

    It may seem a little newbie, but I really have got problem with it. I have a form (not the main one)for getting many different data form the user and I want to pass it to a manager class for creating an object with these. The problem is that I can't have this class to use the other unit (getting circle uses) and also it doesn't have access to the manager class instance (which is in main form). So, what shall I do? I've already considered using public variable but I have a bad feeling about it (regarding OOD patterns). Any ideas? thanks in advance.

  • App crashing on open on Motorola Backflip only

    I have recently published my second app on the Android Market. I've gotten a few e-mails about the app crashing on open, and all users were using the Motorola Backflip. It seems to work fine on all other devices. The app shows the background image, but crashes right after that. Is there something different I have to do when coding for that device? The strange thing is that it is very similar to my first app, which seems to work just fine for them. The major difference is that my second app is a paid app, and uses Android Licence Verification. My implementation should catch any license errors though, and I've tested this on my device. Users have uninstalled and reinstalled the app without success. I'm stumped. The other thing they're reporting is that the icon doesn't even show properly, but rather is a gear in a box, which makes me think that something goes awry very early in the installation process.

  • AudioTrack lag: obtainBuffer timed out

    I'm playing WAVs on my Android phone by loading the file and feeding the bytes into AudioTrack.write() via the FileInputStream BufferedInputStream DataInputStream method. The audio plays fine and when it is, I can easily adjust sample rate, volume, etc on the fly with nice performance. However, it's taking about two full seconds for a track to start playing. I know AudioTrack has an inescapable delay, but this is ridiculous. Every time I play a track, I get this: 03-13 14:55:57.100: WARN/AudioTrack(3454): obtainBuffer timed out (is the CPU pegged?) 0x2e9348 user=00000960, server=00000000 03-13 14:55:57.340: WARN/AudioFlinger(72): write blocked for 233 msecs, 9 delayed writes, thread 0xba28 I've noticed that the delayed write count increases by one every time I play a track -- even across multiple sessions -- from the time the phone has been turned on. The block time is always 230 - 240ms, which makes sense considering a minimum buffer size of 9600 on this device (9600 / 44100). I've seen this message in countless searches on the Internet, but it usually seems to be related to not playing audio at all or skipping audio. In my case, it's just a delayed start. I'm running all my code in a high priority thread. Here's a truncated-yet-functional version of what I'm doing. This is the thread callback in my playback class.     I know (or so I hear) that writing extension methods for a single stand alone .net class (not an implementation of IEnumerable) is potential code smell. However, for the sake of making the life easier I need to attach a method to the ConfigurationManager class in asp.net. It's a static object so this won't work: public static List<string> GetSupportedDomains(this ConfigurationManager manager) { //the manager needs to be static. } So the question is - is it possible to write an extension method for a static class in .net?

    I am building an application with Codeigniter and need some help with a DB query. I have a table called users with the following fields: user_id, user_name, user_password, user_email, user_role, user_manager_id In my app, I pull all records from the user table using the following: function get_clients() { $this->db->select('*'); $this->db->where('user_role', 'client'); $this->db->order_by("user_name", "Asc"); $query = $this->db->get("users"); return $query->result_array(); } This works as expected, however when I display the results in the view, I also want to display a new column called Manager which will display the managers user_name field. The user_manager_id is the id of the user from the same table. Im guessing you can create an outer join on the same table but not sure.   • Google Cloud Messaging

    I downloaded the GCM project from git and i was able to start the server (app engine for java) and also compile the client apk on the device. On startup the device successfully registers with the server and I can see the registration id when i go to http://myserverip:8080/_ah/admin/. The problem is when i hit the 'Send Message' button there is a message 'Single message queued for registration id ' and it doesn't do anything. Below is a screenshot of the error i noticed on the terminal. Am i missing something. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. .

  • Can I modify an ASP.NET AJAX History Point?

    I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 with AJAX and have enabled history on the Script Manager. I have 2 pages, Default.aspx and Default2.aspx. I'm using the AJAX History on the Default.aspx page and saving history points on the server-side. There are some dropdowns on Default.aspx that I don't want to save a history point for each change but would like to save the latest state so that when I click on a link on Default.aspx that navigates to Default2.aspx, when I click the back button on Default2.aspx to return I want the dropdowns to reflect what they were prior to clicking on the hyperlink. So what I'd like to do is modify the history point that I originally set on one of my ajax async postbacks on the client-side before the page navigates away to Default2.aspx. There is a location.hash javascript property that looks like it may do what I want but when I modify the value the Script Manager Navigate event is firing. Is there a way to prevent this event from firing? And would this then do the job?

    Debugger is telling me this, when I run my app on device: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. mi_cmd_stack_list_frames: Not enough frames in stack. mi_cmd_stack_list_frames: Not enough frames in stack. I don't get information about where in code that happens. That's all I get. Any idea what that could mean? The app crashes after that. When the device is not connected to the mac, it still crashes, so not a debugger problem.

    I have created one SSRS text report. I have built and deployed it successfully. I am also able to view it from the report manager succesfully. I am a local admin on windows server but not on SQL Server. Issue :- I am trying to schedule a report to run on a daily basis. When I go to Data sources to store my windows id credentials, it's not allowing me to do so throwing below error. The permissions granted to user 'app\abcid' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Things I have tried :- Added my windows domain id to report manager and given all roles that are there still no success. Added server to the trusted sites in the IE, still no success.

  • Can JQuery/JavaScript be used to write a substantial client side application?

    I have an unusual situation - I have an embedded video streaming device with a complicated UI, and I need to use an embedded web server to reproduce that UI through a web browser. I'm thinking of using JavaScript/JQuery on a C++ backend (I am NOT coding all this myself, I need to hire people for the grunt work). The embedded web server is much less powerful than a PC, so I want to write an application that runs the entire UI in the browser, and only communicates with the server to pass new program settings back and forth, get status updates from the device, and control video playback. In other words, the client gets one big page or a small number of big pages (effectively downloading the application), the application maintains significant local memory storage, and once the pages are first loaded the server never sends anything layout-related. The application has two rows of tabs to navigate ~40 menu pages, drag-and-select controls to pick cells in a grid, sorted lists, lots of standard data entry options, and it should be able to control up to 16 embedded video players at once (preferably VLC). Is this possible in JavaScript/JQuery with a C++ backend?

  • Have a workaround for the 1,000 file limit in a directory on windows mobile 5?

    I need to download more than 1,000 files into a windows mobile 5 directory located on the storage card. If i copy the files onto the storage card via my desktop there is no problem. But when i try to download the files from the handheld device I get a disk full error, even though there is plenty of room due to the 1,000 file limit. Has anyone run into this and found a workaround? I'm going to try zipping all of the files then decompressing on the device but not sure that this will work.

    I have a client-server app which requires me to maintain a persistent session over UDP. The goal is to maintain a path from the server to the mobile Android device no matter what route it has to the internet (WiFi or mobile network). This is achieved using a proprietary, well-tested session-management protocol over UDP. I need the phone to be able to maintain, say, a five-minute keep-alive with the server at all times. Ideally I would like to do this without maintaining any wake-locks on the device. I don't want the screen to light up every time I send a UDP to the server, for example, and I don't want to have a damaging effect on battery usage. Has anyone addressed this problem?

    Hi, I write applications for Windowe ME and CE in C# .NET 2.0. Sometimes I’ve got problems because applications don’t work on some navigation devices. On Windowe ME it is not problem because .NET can be installed from a cab, but on most Windows CE devices it is impossible because after soft reset all changes disappear. I found out that in most difficult cases good solution is to put all dll-s belonging to .NET installation cab in the folder where the application runs and everything work well. However there are some devices for example Navroad NR460 (Windows CE 5.0) on which none of .NET applications work (it is funny because previous and next version of that navigation works well). I didn’t found on this device cgacutil.exe program. Is this possible to force the device to run any .NET application without installing the Windows again? What should I try to do to check if running .NET a applications is possible? What conditions should be fulfilled to run easiest application written even in .NET 1.0

    Scenario: laptop (running RHEL 5.3 / 5.4) with Wi-Fi allowing incoming connections (the laptop is the DHCP server and default gateway of any device that connects to it). The laptop has a streaming server installed (my app). I need to program an app that could monitor this link (device / streaming server) and display the throughput. More importantly, I need this app to be able to throttle the throughput. Think WANem but as an app, or netlimiter but (way) simpler and for RHEL. If you need clarifications, let me know. is there a library that could help me? i've done mostly windows business applications programming, and i have no clue about this stuff. please help me to get started!

  • Extracting ID from data packet GPS

    Hi , I am trying to configure a GPS device to my systems. The GPS device send the data packet to my IP in the following format : $$?W??¬ÿÿÿÿ™U042903.000,A,2839.6408,N,07717.0905,E,0.00,,230111,,,A*7C|1.2|203|0000÷ I am able to extract the latitude, longitude and other information but I am not able to extract the Tracker ID out of the string. According to the manual the ID is in hex format.And the format of the packet is $$\r\n I dont know what to do with it, I have tried converting this to hex..but it didnt work. Any help will be greatly appreciate. Thanks
